Keep warm during the cold months without running up energy bills and breaking the bank By Oliver Stainforth

hate to be the one to say it, but w e c a n’ t h a n g o n t o those Summer vibes any longer – Winter i s h e r e a n d i t ’s n o t leaving anytime soon. So how can you stay warm without spending too many precious pennies on energy bills? 1 . I t ’s amazing what a small piece of plastic can do but hot water bottles
really are the way fo r w a r d . T h e y s t a y h o t fo r a l o n g t i m e so whether you carry it around the house with you or place it u n d e r t h e c o v e r s fo r a warm snug bed it will instantly become your best friend. 2. Get your thermals out and layer up. A woolly jumper can work wonders just as wearing a dressing gown over your clothes does. Remember that heat is lost easily from your head and h a n d s s o d o n’t b e a f r a i d o f l o o k i n g l i ke a fo o l i f w e a r i n g a h a t and gloves indoors i s g o i n g t o ke e p y o u warm. 3. Seal yourself in. Not l i t e r a l l y, but by using a draft
excluder at the bottom of your door it helps to prevent the heat from escaping and the chilly drafts from creeping in. 4. There is nothing better than a good cup of tea. Drinking hot drinks is a simple way to warm yourself up and an enjoyable way to d o s o . W h a t a p e r fe c t excuse to indulge in those early morning brews, afternoon c o f fe e s a n d l a t e n i g h t hot chocolates. 5. Maybe this i s n’t fo r e v e r y o n e , b u t the best way to warm up is to get the blood flowing via a spot of e x e r c i s e . Ye s , e x e r c i s e on a cold wintery m o r n i n g . Don’t rule it out - luxury accommodation can be affordable By Laura Hartley

or you first and second years, if you want to live on your own next year, but want something a little more sophisticated and luxurious, then look no further! We have a guide to where you can find the more luxurious flats and houses in Nottingham. Now, although there are tons of places within a mile radius of Nottingham City Centre that may not look like a great place to live, fear not, if you dig deep into the areas of Nottingham, you will find something.
All of the places I will talk about in this article, you can view in local estate agents if there are any available. Just a ten minute walk from the city centre, by the National Ice Centre/Capital FM Arena, you will find some fabulous sky high flats! They are modern, contemporary and have great views over the city. You will definitely be the coolest in your group of friends if you lived in a place like this. Now, because there are so many properties on the market at once, having specific areas in mind to

ith many at Nottingham Trent just finding their feet in their accommodation for this year rather than the normal concerns and problems that can be experienced by tenants, an unusual claim has been noted:
“Our landlord put on a welcome BBQ for us, it was all free burgers and beers. Later in October they came round with doughnuts to see how we were settling into Royal Albert Mill.” This unusual yet refreshing approach came from Kexgill Student accommodation. We tracked down Luke Gwinnett the manager of the Nottingham Branch of Kexgill student accommodation at his office on Wollaton Street to answer these claims. “We try to make living with us
the easy choice, we offer a great product which we are constantly improving, with straight forward rents that include everything water, gas, electricity, flat screen televisions and BT infinity broadband all standard. We have no hidden fees, no caps on bills, no internet connection fee and as part of UNIPOL’s nationally accredited scheme students can be sure that it is safe and well managed accommodation. We are focused on making sure all our tenants are happy, that includes getting repairs done in a timely fashion, and yes welcoming our tenants with a BBQ and beers all on us. We also approach our tenants shortly after they move in to see if they have settled, we do this armed with doughnuts because we want to impress how much we value them. This is all part of trying to create a community feel to our accommodation and forge a relationship with our tenants which may make us more approachable and personable than other landlords.
look at is a great place to start when looking for a higher quality place to live. West Bridgford is a lovely area, one of the nicest in Nottinghamshire and you can be guaranteed to find a home here. Home to three of the biggest sporting clubs in the East Midlands, you will be living across the river from Notts County FC, Nottingham Forest FC and Trent Bridge. If you are not so much a sporting fan, then the gorgeous view of the River Trent is sure to be something to wake up to. Your friends will envy you if you lived
here. Another area where you are sure to pick up a good home is Wollaton. Just off Derby Road, Wollaton is a quiet homely area, so if you want somewhere to settle down after third year, or you aren’t looking to share with noisy students, this will be the place to look! There are so many areas in Nottingham that offer luxurious apartments and houses, that the only thing to do to pick the right one for you, is to go down to your local estate agents and have a good mooch!
‘This unusual yet refreshing approach came from Kexgill Student accommodation’ We take our responsibility as a landlord in essentially the hospitality sector seriously. Our accommodation is not a restrictive h a l l o r d a m p h o u s e . W e c a l l i t ‘a rite of passage’ from the often over regulated university halls to a fun yet safe environment where
tenants can also get into the serious world of studying! It is real student living in Nottingham and an essential part of the University experience. Probably why we are always fully booked by January for the next academic term.”
