It is the only certificate of proficiency in Portuguese as a foreign language officially recognized by the Brazilian government. It is accepted internationally by companies and institutions of higher education as proof of competence in the Portuguese language and, in Brazil, is required by universities for entrance to both undergraduate and graduate programs, as well as for diploma validation for foreign professionals who intend to work in the country.”
Economic globalization and the MERCOSUR regional integration plan are directly reflected in the internationalization process of Brazilian universities, allowing them to receive international students speaking other languages, for undergraduate studies, and, mainly, for graduate programs, focused on specialization in the most diverse fields of knowledge. This fact, together with the importance of CELPE-Bras, the Certificate of Proficiency in the Portuguese Language for Foreigners, justifies the need for courses in Portuguese as a foreign language designed for students, government and private company employees, employees of foreign organizations and companies that use Brazilian Portuguese, the diplomatic corps and professionals in general, especially in the area of health, who can only obtain revalidation of undergraduate and graduate diplomas through the CELPE-Bras offered by the Ministry of Education (MEC) with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MRE).
