Building the Future of Health Care University Hospitals is bringing new health care services and hundreds of new jobs to the community through the addition of a nearly 216,000-square-foot, three-story hospital building and a two-story, 78,000-square-foot sports medicine complex to our UH Ahuja Medical Center campus. Consistent with UH’s goal of keeping patients healthy with preventive care and reducing in-hospital stays, much of the construction will support outpatient services.

Men’s Health: Motivating men to prioritize their health through prevention and wellness care, the innovative Cutler Center for Men will deliver a full range of coordinated services, ranging from preventive to specialty care.

Emergency and Short-Stay: Delivering expert care in the moments you need it most, the UH Ahuja Emergency Department will be expanded and add Level II trauma care to accommodate a predicted 20 percent increase in ER visits; a new Short-Stay Unit will provide dedicated observation services.

S ervice Expansion: Growing surgical, endoscopic, imaging and dialytic services, Phase 2 will promote same-day care, allowing patients to recover from the comfort and safety of home.

omen & Newborn: A family-focused home for expectant W mothers and newborns, the Steve and Loree Potash Women & Newborn Center will include maternal-fetal health services, labor and delivery, a neonatal intensive care unit and family gathering spaces. It is estimated that the Potash Women & Newborn Center at UH Ahuja will deliver approximately 2,400 babies annually.

Breast Health: Empowering patients through comprehensive care, the Breast Health Center will deliver the full spectrum of services, from preventive and wellness care to breast cancer treatment.

Sports Medicine: Delivering unmatched care for every athlete, the world-class Drusinsky Family Sports Medicine Complex will feature a sports performance center, outpatient rehabilitation space, a sports walk-in clinic and dedicated high-tech imaging. In its first year, the complex expects to serve more than 1,350 sports performance patients.
UH Ahuja Medical Center was envisioned as a multi-stage evolution in providing services for the community. Phase 2 will include similar characteristics as the buildings developed in Phase 1, including bright spaces, and community wellness and health education spaces. Eco-friendly materials and processes will minimize energy costs and reduce building impacts on the environment. The inpatient building is scalable, allowing for future growth of services through the addition of multiple floors. The $236 million project will be funded through bond financing and the generosity of donors. The project broke ground in the summer of 2020 with a service launch to occur in 2023.
