JOAN H. AND RICHARD B. AINSWORTH, JR. ENDOWED CHAIR IN HEMATOLOGIC RESEARCH In recognition of the outstanding care he received from Lalitha V. Nayak, MD, Dick Ainsworth and his wife, Joan, established the Joan H. and Richard B. Ainsworth, Jr. Endowed Chair in Hematologic Research. Dr. Nayak, a physician in the Department of Hematology and Oncology at UH Seidman Cancer Center, is currently researching better ways to treat blood clots. “Cardiovascular diseases are the number one cause of death worldwide,” said Dr. Nayak. “I am incredibly thankful Mr. Ainsworth chose to make such a significant investment into an area that does not get a lot of recognition or research dollars, but still affects so many people.” Joan and Richard Ainsworth with Lalitha V. BUONCORE FAMILY ENDOWED DIRECTOR OF CHIROPRACTIC MEDICINE Rick Buoncore already knew about the advantages of integrative health when an injury led him to to chiropractic physician David A. Vincent, DC, at UH Connor Integrative Health Network. In recognition of the outstanding care he received, Rick and his wife, Lori, made a gift, with matching support from Sara and Chris Connor, to establish the Buoncore Family Endowed Director of Chiropractic Medicine. Dr. Vincent is the inaugural director. “This gift will enable UH to remain a national leader in the area of integrative health for years to come,” said Dr. Vincent, who plans to create an innovative chiropractic residency program at UH. JOHN AND PEGGY GARSON FAMILY ENDOWED CHAIR IN PANCREATIC CANCER RESEARCH John and Peggy Garson became familiar with the work of surgical oncologist and nationally renowned pancreatic cancer expert Jordan M. Winter, MD, Division Chief, Surgical Oncology, and Director, Surgical Services, UH Seidman Cancer Center, when he treated their son, Scott, for ampullary cancer. In 2019, the couple decided to make an investment in pancreatic cancer research and established the John and Peggy Garson Family Endowed Chair in Pancreatic Cancer Research. The chair supported by the Dr. Donald J. and Ruth W. Goodman Philanthropic Fund at the Cleveland Foundation, is held by Dr. Winter.
