WELCOME To the 4th Annual Executive Leadership of the Year Award Thursday, December 9, 2021

Good evening, everyone: Welcome to the 4th Annual Executive of the Year Leadership Award program. We are grateful to the members of the Advisory Board and our Sponsors for supporting this evening’s special event. We particularly appreciate your continued interest and support of this initiative which provides many scholarship opportunities for talented high-performing Barney School students. These young people are critical to the future success of our local business enterprises. Due to Covid 19 concerns, last years event was presented virtually. The feedback on the 2020 event was very positive and the format for this year’s event will be similar. While we were looking forward to an in person gathering this year, we continue to be mindful of continuing appropriate Covid protocols. Therefore, this year’s event will be virtually presented. The focus of the F.I.R.M event (Finance, Insurance, Risk and Manufacturing) is to encourage and support Barney School students in their preparation for positions in these industries. Last year we raised close to $500,000 for scholarships and programming at the Barney School. Five scholarships were awarded in 2020 and since this event started a total of 110 scholarships have been provided. Tonight you will hear from several scholarship students about their experiences at the Barney School and how their scholarships contributed to an enhanced series of learning experiences. For the past three years we have presented the Executive Leadership of the Year Award to executives of Hartford based insurance companies. This year our focus is on the manufacturing industry. We are very pleased to present the fourth Annual Executive Leadership of the Year Award to Jim Loree, the Chief Executive Officer of New Britain based Stanley Black & Decker. Stanley Black and Decker is a leading $14.5 billion global diversified industrial company. Under Jim’s leadership, the company is recognized for industry leadership in advanced manufacturing, operational excellence, responsible business practices and as a best workplace for innovators diversity and equality. Jim’s leadership and dedication to numerous business and social initiatives are well recognized throughout our region as well as nationally and globally. We are extremely honored that Jim has accepted this award and we are grateful for his support of the Barney School of Business.

December 9, 2021 Dear Friends, I am so pleased to welcome you to our fourth annual F.I.R.M. celebration. A year ago, we were hopeful that this year’s event would be in person, but as COVID persisted, it became clear that we would need to utilize a virtual format once again. We are optimistic that we see you in person in 2022— and look very much forward to it! We are excited by the amazing support all of you have provided to keep this new tradition in place. And I believe a good reason for that support is the person we are honoring – Jim Loree. Jim is CEO of Stanley Black & Decker and a leader in the world of manufacturing. Congratulations, Jim, and thanks to you and the Stanley Black & Decker company for being a major supporter of the University of Hartford and Barney School of Business. We appreciate how your support has advanced our ability to provide quality education and career-ready activities to our business students. To all of you attending this evening, my thanks for all that you have done to support our mission. Many of you have provided internships, projects, speaking engagements, career fairs, coaching sessions, and employment to our students. Through your support, our students not only leave the Barney School with a formal education, but also the skills and experience to enter the competitive workforce. Enjoy the evening and congratulations to Jim for receiving the 2021 Executive Leadership of the Year Award.

Sincerely,

Stephen M Mulready, MBA’77 Dean, Barney School of Business

Luke A. Bronin Mayor

December 9, 2021 Dear Friends, It is a pleasure to join you, once again, in supporting the University of Hartford and the Barney School of Business at tonight’s event. Year after year, the F.I.R.M. event has helped raise funds to provide scholarship funding, opening up opportunities for education and careers for students who would not otherwise have had that chance. The Barney School of Business plays a vital role in our city and our region. Our city has a long, proud history as a global hub of the finance, insurance, risk management, and manufacturing industries. Our leaders in business and government have long worked together to create an environment that allows businesses to grow and thrive. And our academic institutions like the Barney School help develop the future leaders who will carry that tradition forward. I am especially proud to have the chance to congratulate Jim Loree, Chief Executive Officer of Stanley Black & Decker, Inc., for receiving the Catalysts for Innovation Executive Leadership of the Year Award. We are deeply grateful for all of the work that Stanley Black & Decker has done, under Jim’s leadership, in the City of Hartford. From making downtown Hartford the home of Stanley Black & Decker’s Manufactory 4.0 to forging a partnership to bring HCL Technologies to Hartford, to working together to re-imagine the Parkville neighborhood, SB&D and Jim Loree have been at the center of our work to grow Hartford into a true center of innovation and growth. On behalf of our city, thank you to Jim and to all of the business and academic leaders behind tonight’s event for your work over many months to bring this distinguished group together to highlight the importance of finance, insurance, risk management, and manufacturing to our region. We look forward to continuing to work with all of you to make Hartford a global home of innovation across all of our sectors. Sincerely, Luke A. Bronin Mayor
