STUDY EXCHANGES

ABROAD

When you study abroad, it will generally be for either a semester or a full academic year at one of our partner universities overseas. We encourage our students to take part in an exchange in the second year of their undergraduate degree and return to finish the final year of the degree here in Salford. This means that the total duration of your course stays the same. Other opportunities may be available depending on your programme and you should contact the International Opportunities Team if you would like further information. We have agreements with partner universities in Europe and in non-EU countries. This means we receive their students here in Salford, we are also able to send our students to their institution and the tuition fees are waived. In most cases,

you don’t need to speak another language as our Partner universities teach in English. However, learning the language whilst abroad is a great opportunity and you are highly encouraged to embrace it. UK/EU students who decide to spend a whole academic year are eligible for an 85% reduction of their tuition fees for the year; non-EU students are eligible for a 50% reduction. Several scholarships are also available. Head to our website for further details.

WORK PLACEMENTS

ABROAD

ERASMUS+ FOR TRAINING Through the Erasmus+ for training scheme, you can undertake a work placement abroad during your degree; this can be credit-bearing and an integral part of the course, or voluntary. This means that you can source and choose a placement yourself and receive funding for it. Whilst some degree courses have an integrated placement year, which you can spend abroad, others may allow you to spend only one semester abroad. However, all students, regardless of their programme, can receive funding to work abroad during summer. Erasmus+ provides up to â‚Ź450 a month for work placements abroad.

...AND MORE There are various other opportunities you can be part of. For example, University of Salford students have recently taken part in the British Council Generation UK China project and undertaken a partly-funded work experience in China (to read about this, please visit www.britishcouncil.org/study-work-abroad/ outside-uk/internships-china). These opportunities are promoted to students via our website, student communications and our social media. Keep an eye out!

GRADUATE TRAINEESHIPS ABROAD

SHORT-TERM COURSES AND SUMMER SCHOOLS

The Erasmus+ scheme offers students the opportunity to undertake a graduate traineeship in a European country and receive up to €450 a month while abroad. Head over to our website to find out how you can source a graduate traineeship!

These are a great opportunity to make the most of your summer if you don’t want to commit to a long period of time abroad. These options may be open to all students or be specific to students from certain academic areas. The International Opportunities Team facilitates and highly encourages students’ participation in several short-term courses and summer schools. Often, these opportunities are partly or fully funded by the organising body or institution. The University of Salford also supports students financially by contributing to travel expenses, such as visas.

‘INTERNATIONALISATION AT HOME’ ACTIVITIES These activities are aimed at creating an international dimension and giving you global exposure here on campus in Salford. It is our priority to make sure that every student fully participates in international activities even without leaving Greater Manchester. Our goal is to integrate experiences and knowledge of local and international students from diverse backgrounds and prepare all students for an increasingly international workplace.

@UoS_IntOpps

To give you an idea of the amazing things you could be part of, some of our students will be in Canada for the whole summer 2020 to undertake a fully funded research project!
