WHAT’S IT LIKE TO STUDY COMPUTING AND SOFTWARE ENGINEERING AT SALFORD? / Competitions Salford is at the heart of the rapidly growing tech community in Greater Manchester, and a sponsor of Hack Manchester where competitors are able to exercise their programming skills in a fun environment.

In October 2019, one of Salford’s student teams won the Co-op challenge; a second won the Next Generation category; and another team secured third place in the prestigious Clockwork challenge.

/ Part of the community In April 2019, Salford hosted over 200 female undergraduates, postgraduates and researchers of computing and related subjects for the BCSWomen Lovelace Colloquium. Named after the woman considered the world’s first programmer for her ideas surrounding a machine’s ability to interpret, this event enables women in computing to advise, network and communicate. / Societies At the University of Salford, we have a range of student-run societies which cover all aspects of student life, from academia to sports, politics and the environment, performance to faith. Several are linked to our computing courses – such as Steminists, Computing and Esports – providing likeminded students with a place to socialise, relax and enhance their skills.
