STUDYING
CIVIL INEERING ENLG FORD AT SA
WHAT WILL I STUDY? / Civil Engineering Mathematics 1 As an essential skill for successful engineering, you will expand your knowledge in a range of subjects in mathematics, from algebra to geometry to complex numbers, with emphasis on their applications to engineering. / Civil Engineering Materials and Geology Develop your understanding of materials used in the industry as you study their fundamental behaviour. / Civil Engineering Construction Gain an understanding of the broad spectrum of elements involved with civil engineering construction, from tunnels to contract law. / Civil Engineering Surveying Enhance your skillset by undertaking a range of civil engineering surveying tasks, including setting out, land surveying and quantity surveying. / Civil Engineering Communication Acquire a wide range of well-developed skills including drawing, written reports, presentations, and specification writing, in order to communicate effectively with engineers, clients, contractors and labourers. / Structures E1 Covering both analysis and design, you will develop analytical skills relevant to structures, material properties and Euler’s theory as well as skills in designing structural steelwork elements and fire and corrosion protection systems, providing you with key structural knowledge. Exact modules may vary in order to keep content current.
HOW WILL I BE ASSESSED? / Examinations / Lab exercises / Reports

WHAT’S IT LIKE TO STUDY CIVIL ENGINEERING AT SALFORD? / Field Trips
London trip
Our first-year students are taken on a trip to London where they are able to bond with their classmates, get to know their lecturers and have fun. You will visit the Shard, London Olympic Park, the Millennium dome (O2) and Canary Wharf; you will also head over to the Institution of Civil Engineers HQ in Westminster and receive a guided tour around engineering and architectural sites.
/ Societies At the University of Salford, we have a range of student-run societies which cover all aspects of student life, from academia to sports, politics to the environment, performance to faith. Whether performing comedy, climbing through the countryside or raising awareness of cancer in young people, you will find a society of likeminded students where you are able to relax, socialise and enhance your skillset.
