WHAT WILL I STUDY? / Chemical Structure Determination Explore the subject of molecular characterisation and the principles of spectroscopic analysis. / Introduction to Organic Chemistry Develop an understanding of organic chemistry through structure and mechanism, studying the organic reactions of key functional groups. / Introduction to Physical Chemistry Explore physical chemistry through energy and chemical bonding. / Inorganic and Analytical Chemistry Examine the principles of key areas of chemical analysis and inorganic chemistry, from electrochemistry to voltammetry to chromatography. / Biochemical and Pharmaceutical Skills Acquire basic laboratory skills and techniques that underpin fundamental biochemical investigations. / Introductory Biochemistry The aim of this module is to introduce principles of biochemistry. WHAT’S IT LIKE TO STUDY CHEMISTRY AT SALFORD? / Integrated Masters Our courses are offered with an integrated master’s route – Master in Chemistry (MChem) – which is taken over four years. The first three years follow the same structure as the BSc, but the fourth year allows students to broaden their knowledge and skillset beyond undergraduate level, increasing their employability. / Placement Opportunities Salford is passionate about finding opportunities for you to gain realworld experience in order to further your theoretical understanding and practical skillset. As a result, we encourage every student to take an industrial placement year between their second and third years. The placement not only gives you industry experience but enables you to begin making those vital contacts before graduation. Previous students have spent the year working with organisations such as Cancer Research UK or as a research assistant at Harvard University! / Societies At the University of Salford, we have a range of student-run societies which cover all aspects of student life, from academia to sports, politics to the environment, performance to faith. We have several societies which link to the Human and Life Sciences. From Biomedical Science to Climate Change to Wildlife, you will find a group of likeminded students and a place to socialise, relax and enhance your skills. There is also the Steminists society, supporting female students across STEM subjects and promoting gender equality for all.
