NEW FOR 21/22 - PROJECT FOCUS: ENGAGEMENT ANALYTICS Jigsaw, our current learner analytics platform, is being replaced by Jisc, a sector-leading platform successfully adopted by dozens of HEIs across the UK. Jisc encompasses much of what Jigsaw currently offers, along with a whole host of additional features, including attendance monitoring; through clear and informative data visualisations, both staff and students will be able to compare their engagement and attendance levels with those of their peers and correlate these to performance. The investment in this new platform is part of our wider Enabling Student Success strategy to improve outcomes for students at Salford. By providing timely and reliable engagement and attendance data, the platform will facilitate the identification of at-risk students, triggering timely interventions. This will, in turn improve attrition and enhance student success more generally. The introduction of Electronic Registers is being rolled out at the start of the new academic year, allowing students to check into a session via a web link and input a code that is specific to that session and therefore us to see who has attended what sessions. Work will be ongoing throughout trimester 1 to integrate the system more fully with CMIS, our institutional timetabling system, while the schools will be working on ensuring consistent application of student fitting. Once both these prerequisites are completed, full attendance monitoring can be rolled out, allowing us to robustly see what student have NOT attended sessions. It is likely we will do this incrementally by programme and this approach will be finalised in coming weeks. As well as attendance, JISC also comes with a wealth of engagement monitoring functionality. These features will gradually be rolled out later in the academic year including measures we haven’t had before such as interaction with Blackboard on mobile devices and interaction with Office 365. In consideration of the operational pressures at this time of year, we are taking a staggered approach to implementation of these features. Once fully implemented, JISC will replace the existing Jigsaw platform, which will be retired, and allow us to monitor even more forms of engagement than we do today, all in one place alongside our attendance data.
