End of spring semester, moving to a new space, starting a new summer semester…lions, and tigers, and bears, oh my! Never fear, YOUR library is here…
**New space: -We will soon move all Library and Southwest Research Center operations into the new CPCC building—College Pathways to Careers Center. YOUR college library staff have been providing the necessary information to the architectural firm and construction managers, and working alongside the project manager throughout this process. We look forward to welcoming you to this new space soon. **Comings and goings: -Tetsuro Namba, our part time Library Information Specialist has resigned to start a new chapter in his life. Tets started with YOUR college library right in the middle of the pandemic and was a real asset. Despite the fact most of his shifts for the first six months were working from home, he was able to accomplish a lot for YOUR library. We wish him well! -It is with a heavy heart that we share with our readers that YOUR Southwest Research Center Librarian Anita “Nita” Murphy passed away on January 31st. Her obituary states she was “an unstoppable research librarian”. Nita was a Taos treasure that is greatly missed. -Due to the above losses, YOUR college library is currently hiring a full time Library Information Specialist III. If you, or someone you know, is passionate about helping students succeed, and connecting with the campus community as well as the community at large please consider applying for this position by going to unmjobs.unm.edu, click on Staff Careers, and filter the results on the left to Taos. Scroll to the bottom of the job description to apply online.
**Programming and Outreach: -YOUR college library has been celebrating Dia de los Niños/ Dia de los Libros since 2008 by collaborating with local schools and childcare centers. Due to the imminent move, we are unable to plan an activity this year but would like to encourage all of our readers to keep this nationally recognized initiative that emphasizes the importance of literacy for all children from all backgrounds in your hearts and minds. Read a book to a child today or have a child tell you a story! -I have resurrected the Taos Area Librarians’ Consortium and am happy to report that after three meetings we continue to grow. The Consortium consists of librarians and staff from school, public, academic, research, and special libraries throughout Taos and the Enchanted Circle. The goal of our work is to better serve our patrons and our communities.
-In the past few months, YOUR college library held a successful “Love YOUR Library” virtual trivia event, we provided Information Literacy sessions to several classes as well as a couple of demo sessions for the Spring Fling event, we continue to collaborate with the Harwood Museum as they prepare for the Centennial recognition in 2023, and we have provided materials to the newly formed Lunder Research Center at the Couse-Sharp Historic site. Onward and upward!
