Whether you are a spectator, official, recreational participant, club player or international athlete, we endeavour to provide an environment within which you can flourish and achieve your sporting potential. We offer the second highest number of clubs of any UK university and have some of the best facilities in the university sector. In 2013/14 we came 7th in the British University and Colleges Sport league tables, which reflects our strength and depth in sporting performance. We also offer sports scholarships to support elite athletes and help them balance their academic and sporting lives. There are a number of ways in which we are leaders and unique in the university sports sector: for example, by having a dedicated Disability Sport Officer and by running the Tri Campus Games, an annual event that sees 200 athletes from our three international campuses compete against each other, hosted in rotation by each campus. We have one of the largest intramural sports programmes in the country, thus providing opportunities for competitive sport without the commitment of joining a club. Whatever your interest in sport and physical activity, do not miss out on the opportunity to get involved in the huge array of clubs and use the quality facilities that provide a culture of sport for all. Dan Tilley Director of Sport
Kiri Madhani Students’ Union Sports Officer
When we selected The University of Nottingham to study for our degrees, it was an easy choice. Not only does it have an excellent academic reputation and a great campus in a great city, but it has fantastic sports facilities and sporting structures. It seemed like an ideal place for us to pursue our dreams of competing in our sport at a world-class level at the same time as developing ourselves into versatile, well-educated people in life outside sport. The University of Nottingham provides opportunities in sports at all levels, from introductory to international. We have had such an incredible journey through our sport, along the way receiving a gold medal on the top step of the Olympic podium. Part of that journey was spent working hard, training hard and having fun at The University of Nottingham. Perhaps it can be a part of yours? Sporting events The University hosts a range of unique sporting events and opportunities for students, staff and alumni to take part in. Tri Campus Games
Unique within higher education, the Tri Campus Games is an event in which students from each of the three Nottingham campuses - UK, China and Malaysia – compete against each other in a range of up to 20 specialist sports and campus-team challenges. The event involves nearly 200 students of more than 20 nationalities across our three international campuses as well as student-based media, reporting and web-support teams. The seventh Tri Campus Games will take place during June 2015 at our UK campuses. The games offer a genuine opportunity to develop ‘Friendship through Sport’ allowing sporting and educational exchanges in a friendly spirit of competition that only an event of this nature can engender. A cultural programme of visits and events runs in parallel with the Games.
Alumni Sports Challenge
The weekend of 13-14 June 2015 will showcase a festival of sport where past students of the University, throw down the gauntlet and challenge present students in a series of matches to contest the Alumni Challenge Trophy. Not only does the weekend give the opportunity for past players to return to the University to re-live their sporting days (and show the current students just how good they were) but also provides a great opportunity for current students to meet up with and interact with their predecessors.
Charity Varsity Series
The University won the 2014 title against Nottingham Trent University and lead the Charity Varsity Series 4½ to 2 ½. Every year, the two universities compete in over 14 different events over the course of the second semester for the coveted Varsity Cup, in partnership with the Students’ Union. Highlights include the sell out capacity crowd of 8,000 at the Capital FM Arena for the ice hockey, or the football fixture at Notts County’s Meadow Lane ground.

Investment in student sport The University of Nottingham is committed to providing an inclusive sporting and recreational environment that allows all students to flourish and excel. As part of that commitment, a significant programme of investment totalling over ÂŁ7m is currently underway to ensure that our sporting, fitness and recreational facilities are second to none and offer the very best experience to our students.
Jubilee Fitness Centre
Due to open in September 2014, the new Fitness Centre will comprise of 100 stations of the very latest cutting-edge technology and top-of-the-range CV machines, including treadmills, upright and recumbent cycles, cross trainers, rowers, stair mills and Power Plates. The Fitness Centre will also include a large free weight area, resistance equipment and a functional training centre, including power pivots, boxing bags, battle ropes, cable stations, and an indoor group cycling studio.
Riverside Sports Complex
From October 2014, the Riverside Sports Complex will boast two 800 m2 pavilions, complete with tea rooms, 38 flexible team changing rooms, private officials spaces and covered viewing balconies. Situated to overlook the 150-acre, 26 sports pitch ground, the pavilions will improve and enhance the student intramural and representative sporting experience.
Continued investment
The University is also exploring the feasibility of additional facilities in the form of a water based hockey pitch to support our successful and ever expanding hockey programme, and an additional 3G synthetic grass turf pitch to provide further recreational and sporting provision to the University student sports clubs.
