Greetings,

It’s sunny and feeling like summer. Let’s hope that we have a great warm fall!

Has everyone seen the cop decoy in front of Wildman’s. The decoy is on loan from Steve Greene for the summer. Do you feel that it influenced the traffic and slowed them down? The decoy will be going home after Labor Day. Let us know if you think it should be used next year.

Summer is slipping by quickly and we will begin regular meetings in September. We will be issuing billings for membership, looking for advertisements for the Upper Kenai River Guide and on the hunt for board members. Please put a reminder in your calendars for the Chamber projects.

Give us your input on the Upper Kenai River Guide. How can we improve it, what you like, what you feel needs work. We want to make the guide informative and help our visitors find what they need in town or what to do.

Cooper Landing Advisory Planning Commission (CLAPC)

The next Cooper Landing Advisory Planning Commission (CLAPC) meeting is scheduled for August 9th. We do not know at this time if there are any agenda items but if there are you’ll see the draft agenda posted in the Cooper Landing Crier online and physically around town on bulletin boards.

How to Enter

Enter for your chance to be the lucky grand prize winner of $1,000 when you purchase a raffle ticket in our Summer Cash Raffle. All participants have a chance to win one of twenty-two prizes, each with a $100 or more-dollar value. This fundraiser is presented by the Cooper Landing Chamber of Commerce with proceeds from the raffle benefiting the Cooper Landing Youth Group Program.

Raffle Tickets can be purchased both online and in-person from July 12th through September 22nd.

Tickets can be purchased in person at the Cooper Landing Museum on Wednesdays through August 9th from 1:00 to 5:30 pm. They can also be purchased on select weekends at Wildman’s, or from any Youth Group member.

Online tickets will be assigned a number based on the order in which they are purchased. The number is not available at checkout as the numbers will have to be manually assigned.

All prizes will be drawn on September 23, 2023. Winners need not be present to win and will be notified. Participants must be 18 or older to enter.

Cooper Landing Community Club

It’s that part of summer where all of our local businesses are in full swing and many residents are dealing (ahem..., enjoying!) their summer visitors. During this busy time, we hope everyone is able to stop and take a moment to enjoy the beauty that surrounds us. This is why so many of us call Cooper Landing our home!

Please mark your calendars for our next general meeting, which will be Thursday, September 21st, 2023, at 6 pm. We encourage all our community organization liaisons to provide a representative to attend and present updates on any activities and events that have occurred or are coming up. Be sure to let us know at officers@ cooperlandingcommunityclub.com if you would like to be added to our agenda and do so, no later than September 12, 2023.

Also at this meeting, nominations will be taken for open seats on the Cooper Landing Community Club Board. If you are interested in becoming involved and serving our community, please email us for an application. Per our Bylaws, all nominations for 2024 candidates will close at the end of the September meeting. If there are more nominees than open seats, ballots of all nominees will be mailed to each member in good standing for an election to occur by November 1st, 2023. (A member in good standing is any adult registered in the Cooper Landing Voting Precinct AND has attended at least one community club meeting in the last year). If there are an equal number of nominees vs. seats, a voice vote will be held at our November meeting.

Lastly, after all the excitement this past month, we highly encourage everyone to continue to support Cooper Landing Emergency Services either through donations or stepping up to volunteer to help make sure we have this vital resource in our community. Thanks to all who joined the local seniors in the spring highway cleanup on May 15. Thanks to Arden Rankins who provided lunch at Sunrise Inn for the highway workers.

Kate Stevenson, shown above during her Treasure Sale at Cooper Landing School, was on Antiques Roadshow in Anchorage on July 11! Her Charles Schultz signed Peanuts cartoon* caught the interest of the show’s producer. The Seawolves hockey program at UAA is benefitting from Kate’s generosity. We’ll be looking for Kate on episodes sometime early next year. Kate is planning another Open House and Treasures Sale in Helen Gwin Commons on November 4. Over $800 was made for CLSCCI during this event last year. Funds were earmarked for tools and emergency electric heaters. Kate was active with the CLSCCI board in early years and instrumental in the inclusion of the little greenhouse in the Eagle’s View parking area.

Mario Carboni, everyone’s favorite piano player and singer, wil beginning at 1:30. Coffee and cookies and other sweets will be served. In the picture from July 2021, Mario is cheerffully surrounded by his audience after his performances.

The Commons was filled with Ladonna’s friends shortly before she moved to Oregon. Her husband, Malcolm, in Nov. last year. Ladonna helped CSLCCI from the beginning in 1999.

President Al Clayton is a lifelong Alaska resident with a law practice in Anchorage. The Clayton family has a long history of time spent in Cooper Landing. In 1949, I met AL’S father while he was building his log cabin near Quartz Creek. mp

The overall purpose of the Cooper Landing Senior Citizen's Corporation, Inc. (CLSCCI) is to support and encourage the well-being of all persons 55 years of age and older who reside in the Cooper Landing Senior boundaries established by the Kenai Peninsula Borough. The means used to accomplish this purpose shall be through providing congregate housing, transportation, nutritional services and social and physical activities to those who have a need for or desire such services. 2005

Fresh foods, canned vegetables, big boxes of Cheerios, fresh breads, noodles, beans… so much good stuff in June thanks to the Soldotna Food Bank

Remember when this (L) hung on the museum storage bldg. showing the status of the Endowment Fund? This was Aug. 2006. The Fund balances continues to be over $500,000.
