HEAD COACH DANIELLE LOWE (FINDLAY ‘06, M.A. ‘08) Urbana University Athletic Director Doug Young named Danielle Lowe (rhymes with "now") the softball program's newest head coach on May 11, 2010. A first-time head coach, Lowe took over the reigns of a program that enjoyed the most successful six-year run in program history under Nicole Pluger, who was promoted to the role of Assistant Athletic Director of Compliance following the 2010 season. "Although we will miss Coach Pluger on the softball field, we are excited about the new direction we are headed," explained Young. "Danielle comes from a program with a proud tradition of excellence, and we look forward to the positive attributes she will bring to our program and the University." In her first season at the helm, Lowe improved the team's winning percentage and GPA. Urbana finished the season strong, winning 9 of their final 13 games, including a 4-3 home win over 13th ranked regional foe Indianapolis. The victory was one of two against ranked opponents in 2011. Lowe came to Urbana from the University of Findlay where she spent 4 seasons as an assistant coach following 3 seasons as the Oilers' starting 2nd baseman. She served as team captain as a senior while capturing all-academic accolades from the GLIAC conference. On the field, Lowe was named the team's top defensive player while batting .255 with 26 extra-base hits and 35 RBIs. During her time at Findlay, Lowe earned both a bachelor's and a master's degree. She received a Bachelor of Science in Integrated Mathematics AYA Education in December of 2006. Two years later, she completed her Master's Degree in Education, with a Human Resource Development Strand and an Emphasis on Leadership.
