waikiki school | november 3rd | 3710 leahi avenue Alicia Culver | alicia@responsiblepurchasing.org Executive Director, Responsible Purchasing Network Alicia Culver is the Executive Director of the Responsible Purchasing Network, an international network dedicated to advancing sustainable procurement policies and practices among and public agencies and institutions. RPN uses “the power of the purse” to protect workers and the environment. Alicia’s work on green cleaning began a decade ago when she co-authored a report called Cleaning for Health: Products and Practices for a Safer Indoor Environment (August 2002). Since then she has helped dozens of school districts and public agencies pilot test and purchase green cleaning products. She has also collaborated with the Green Schools Initiative and the National Healthy Schools Network to advocate for strong standards for green cleaners, including the elimination of chemicals known to cause asthma. Carol Feinga | carol@kokuahawaiifoundation.org Program Director, Kokua Hawaii Foundation Carol Feinga currently works for the Kokua Hawaii Foundation as the Program Director overseeing the Kokua Hawaii Foundation Grants program, the 3R’s School Recycling Program and the Kokua Earth Action Project program. The Kokua Hawai’i Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that supports environmental education in the schools and communities of Hawai’i. Programs include ‘AINA in Schools, 3R’s School Recycling, Environmental Education mini-grants, Kokua Earth Action Projects, and Plastic Free Schools.

As a principal at Green Building Services, Inc., Elaine brings a unique perspective to green building and sustainability initiatives. Her multidisciplinary background and diverse project experience, which ranges from residential and commercial development to manufacturing and volume certifications, distinguishes her in the green building industry. She has extensive expertise in historic buildings, multi-tenant office buildings and assembly sites. Elaine leads teams through the successful greening of their buildings and facilities management practices. By focusing on strategies that deliver the greatest value, Elaine consistently positions project teams to exceed their initial green building expectations. Her excellence as a communicator and results-driven focus keep projects teams on schedule, on budget and on target with their green building goals. Tamara Farnsworth | tfarnsworth@honolulu.gov Recycling Specialist, City and County of Honolulu Recycling Branch Tamara Farnsworth joined the City and County of Honolulu’s Recycling Branch in 2008. As a Recycling Specialist, she coordinates Opala education and recycling resources for schools, non-profits, and community events. She also coordinates the annual “Discover Recycling” event for teachers and the public “Tour de Trash” series.

Passionate about the impact of sustainability education, Mondenna “Mondy” Jamshidi, is a change agent who began her sustainability career with a campaign she successfully initiated at her alma mater, Kalamazoo College. Mondenna has also provided sustainability assessment trainings and workshops to diverse students ranging from environmental leaders from South East Asia at the EastWest Center at the University of Hawaii at Manoa, to local under-resourced youth pursuing their GED and vocational training through YouthBuild and also worked on the sustainability assessment of Kalani High School.
Bong Kang, B.Sc. Civil Engineer, has participated on sustainability project audit and implementation at Keone’ula Elementary School and with the RISE sustainability assessment of Kalani High School, as well as training underresourced youth from YouthBuild. As Technical Coordinator, Bong hopes to see not only Hawaii, but the world, become less dependent on fossil fuels. His perfect dream come true would be to see a completely sustainable powerful energy source. Until that day comes, Bong will do what he can to help move the world toward efficiency and beyond.

Tyler was a founding board member for the Sustainability Association of Hawaii and also served on the board for Envision Hawaii; both organizations focused on building sustainable communities and entrepreneurial leaders in Hawaii. He has worked with a diverse group of government, non-profit, and for profit entities throughout the Hawaiian island, most recently serving as a director of business engagement for Kanu Hawaii. Tyler is the founder of Honu Guide, a sustainable island living resource book, and co-Founder of Nella Media Group, a media company focused on providing creative modern content.

Jonathan Fritzler developed a non-profit organization called the Aloha Movement Project (AMP), with the mission to unite a global network of student diplomats who harness Education Energy as a renewable resource to inspire peace and influence positive change. His book, “Plant an AMP,” teaches students from every major and school, how we can combine our assigned projects to write grants and strategic plans that change the world! While a Blue Agent for the non-profit Blue Planet, whose mission is to rid the world of fossil fuel beginning w Hawaii, he assisted the organization soon to be known as Smart Sustainability Consulting in an energy audit of Unity Church and has become a part of the SSC core team.

melvin@hawaiisead.org During his first year of college, Melvin took part in the R.I.S.E UH internship program. He worked under the direction of Shanah Trevenna along with other college students. This student team did a sustainability assessment of Kalani High School, which involved taking measurements of Lighting, Temperature, Waste, and Water. Since the sustainability assessment of Kalani High School, Melvin has been a part of SEAD, and hopes to help teach students the importance of sustainability in Hawaii. Kapiolani Street | Kapiolani.Street@risehi.org RISE Intern, Hawaii Board of Water Supply Kapiolani Street is a senior at the University of Hawaii at Manoa with plans to graduate in the Spring of 2013 with a dual degree in Civil Engineering and Athropology. She has been interning at the Honolulu Board of Water Supply under the direction of Cat Sawai since September 2011. As part of her internship, she has assisted with the Hawaii Green Business Program, as well as internal conservation programs at BWS including cathodic protection, water auditing, and leak detection. After completing her undergraduate degree in the spring, Kapiolani hopes to attend graduate school in the field of Environmental Engineering or Project Administration. Jacqueline Lum | jacqueline.lum@risehi.org RISE Intern, Hawaii Board of Water Supply Jacqueline is a environmental engineer with the Honolulu Board of Water Supply Conservation Branch and recent graduate from the University of California, Merced. As an undergraduate, she spent her last year focusing on solar design, air pollution prevention, and mountain hydrology. Her past projects have included contributions to the Hawai’i Green Business Program, Boys & Girls Club, Bellows AFB and the Sierra Nevada Research Institute.
