OUR UNIVERSITY Located in the heart of one of the world’s most vibrant cities, the University of San Francisco offers an ideal living and learning environment. Golden Gate Park, the world’s largest municipal park in the United States, is just a short walk from campus. Lone Mountain, one of San Francisco’s 10 highest peaks, is our home. And our view can’t be beat. USF’s mission to create a more humane and just world begins with you. Change the world from here. At the University of San Francisco, this is our call to action. “Here” is San Francisco, our innovative home city, and “here” is USF, committed to a higher standard of learning that transcends mere academic excellence. “Here” is a community member – in the minds and hearts of students, faculty, and alumni, all inspired by a shared commitment to justice. If you share our belief that the world needs to change, and that anyone can make it happen, we encourage you to start here, with USF. – Courtesy of the University of San Francisco.
San Francisco: Tops for College Students Did you know the American Institute for Economic Research ranked San Francisco No. 1 in its rankings of the best 75 cities or towns to live in for college students, based on 12 criteria, including diversity, arts and leisure, research capacity and entrepreneurial activity? • The Washington Monthly ranks USF as 12th out of 258 national universities on a combined measure of the number of staff and students supporting community service. • The Princeton Review named USF one of the “Best Western Colleges” and San Francisco sixth in the nation for “Great College Towns.” • The American Institute for Economic Research ranked San Francisco No. 1 in its ranking of the best 75 cities or towns to live in for college students. • USF is the number one college for minority students, according to Diverse: Issues in Higher Education • USF was recently named one of California’s Colleges of Distinction, an honor that highlights the university’s hands-on teaching approach, outstanding faculty, and high praise from graduates. • The USF’s School of Law was listed among the top tier law schools in the 2013 U.S. News & World Report.
OUR CITY Open, multi-cultural, entrepreneurial – San Francisco is the ideal incubator for agents of positive change. There is no better place to study than San Francisco and no university connects you with the heart of San Francisco like USF. We are this dynamic city’s first university. Today, San Francisco provides USF students an extended classroom – interning and volunteering from City Hall to Fortune 500 companies to Silicon Valley startups; serving schools and nonprofits; immersing themselves in the art, culture, adventure and natural beauty of the City by the Bay. – Courtesy of the University of San Francisco
San Francisco and the surrounding Bay Area offer residents and visitors a diverse landscape and a wide-range of activities for every interest. Enjoy the serenity of Golden Gate Park, live music at The Fillmore, world famous shopping at Union Square, the de Young fine arts museums, the San Francisco Symphony and Opera, a wide-range of culinary experiences and our six major professional sports teams that call the Bay Area home.

FOUR PILLARS of Success
USF WOMEN’S SOCCER › 2014
EXCEL IN THE CLASSROOM
In 2013-14, USF student-athletes combined to post a 3.3 grade point average, which was higher than the general student population. More than half of all USF student-athletes earned West Coast Conference all-academic recognition. Twenty-five student athletes received first team WCC All-Academic recognition, which was the highest total among all conference schools. Four USF athletic teams earned perfect scores of 1,000 while four others produced scores of 990 or better in the 10th annual Academic Progress Rate statistics released today by the NCAA. USF’s men’s and women’s indoor track teams along with the women’s basketball and men’s tennis programs earned perfect 1,000 scores. All four squads were recognized with public recognition awards last week for producing APRs in the top 10 percent of their respective sports. Four other Don programs – men’s cross country (996), men’s outdoor track (996), women’s cross country (996) and women’s volleyball (995) registered scores of 990 or higher. Student-athletes from USF’s women’s track and field program were honored by the USTFCCA for compiling the highest cumulative grade point average in the nation among more than 208 schools. Four USF women’s golfers were named Women’s Collegiate Golf All-America Scholars for the 2013-14 season, as selected by the Women’s Golf Coaches Association of America. USF was the only WCC school to have more than two representatives on the team.
8 › University of THE BEST CITY EVER
WIN AT THE HIGHEST LEVELS OF COMPETITION Two USF teams and two individuals took part in NCAA postseason competition during the 201314 season. USF’s women’s cross country team captured its fifth straight WCC Championship and achieved its highest national ranking in school history when the Dons jumped up to No. 10 in the USTFCCAA poll in early October and ultimately finished 19th at the NCAA Championships. Sophomore Eric Causey became the first male cross country runner to qualify for nationals. Bridgett Dahlberg became the second Don to win the individual title at the WCC Cross Country Championships while sophomore Eric Causey became the first USF male runner to qualify for nationals. In the spring, Bradley Zimmer (baseball) and Jana Soethout (track & field) earned All-America status, giving USF two All-Americans in the same year for the first time since 1981. Zimmer was the 21st overall selection in the First Year Player Draft. Over the years, USF teams have captured nine national team championships and has produced two individual champions.
The University of San Francisco is committed to excellence in athletics as part of aUlarger S F Mcommitment E N ’ S S O CtoC educating ER › 2014 students in the Jesuit Catholic tradition. USF Athletics is built upon four pillars of success that aim to develop young men and women in this tradition: Excel in the Classroom; Win at the Highest Level of Competition; Engage in the Community; and Become Leaders in the World. The entire department, including coaches, training staff, facilities and equipment personnel and administrators, work to support student-athlete achievement in each of the Four Pillars, develop leaders and support the principles of the West Coast Conference and the NCAA.
ENGAGE IN THE COMMUNITY Through partnerships with the San Francisco RBI Program and Harper for Kids, USF studentathletes volunteered their time in mentoring over 5,000 children during the course of the year on the importance of education, goal setting and physical fitness.
BECOME LEADERS IN THE WORLD USF student-athletes graduate with the skills they need to succeed in whatever career path they choose. USF student-athletes will excel in setting and achieving goals throughout their college careers and beyond. Approximately 76 percent of recent USF graduates begin their full-time careers or pursue a graduate degree.
