On foot or by bike, always L’Escala EXCURSIÓ EXCURSION

L’Escala has tons of spots ready to discover, whether on foot or by bicycle. To get started, try the Masos trail, harking back to the pirate era. If you’d rather feel the breeze by bike, the Coastal trail will reward you with the best views of the Costa Brava. Try one, the other, or both!

If you’re not afraid of pirates, or two wheels, we’re happy to recommend another activity. Take the Coastal trail, and you’ll see the best spots along the L’Escala coast in just two hours. Even if it’s been a while, just start pedaling to confirm: you never forget how to ride a bike. Although there are moderately difficult spots, most of the trail is flat. And if it turns out you’re not an elite athlete, you can always rent an electric bicycle. It makes everything easier and is fun too.

Start the trail on Riuet beach, and admire the ruins of Empúries. At this point, the trees along the trail kindly give shade and you can view the coastal dunes, shaped by centuries of Tramuntana winds. When you reach the Lampadòfor, the monument to the Olympic flame, the harsh sun might bite, but a look at the landscape will immediately make you forget the heat.

Now you’re in the urban core of L’Escala, and it’s worth checking the signs indicating where you can go by bike or not. As you leave the historic center to head towards the port, book lovers will be pleased to pass in front of the Caterina Albert home and museum. Just a few pedals later, you’ll find several sculptures dedicated to Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s mythical Little Prince. Take a break, regain your strength, and try to find them all! The Little Prince watches the sunrise on an old stone wall and, a few steps away, the fox vigilantly observes the horizon. Look around and you’ll find more!

If you want to do the entire trail and you’re not crazy about bikes, lock yours up at Cala Montgó and hit the path by foot. Enjoy the trail without gravel under your wheels or, if you’re used to the ups and downs of two wheels, go on ahead!

At Punta Montgó you’ll see a majestic, magnificent defense tower that once warned fishermen and farmers when pirates were in sight. It dates to 1598 and is in excellent condition. But don’t say goodbye to the tower yet as you’ll see it again at the end of the trail when you arrive at Punta Ventosa. And wow, the cherry on top! The views are breathtaking, wild, and inspiring. You’ll see how the massive Mediterranean unfolds at your feet. If you planned in advance, enjoy a snack and renew your strength to jump back on your bike for the final 13 kilometers that will make anyone hungry! Without a doubt, this snack will come with some of the best views you’ll ever see. //
