CANNON HALL FARM, BARNSLEY
STARGAZER’S
HANDBOOK 2015
Welcome‌ A
huge welcome to the second Underneath the Stars Festival. As you wander around the festival site and get your bearings we hope you notice a few improvements on how we did things last year. We aim to continue making changes we feel are necessary and as always we would love your feedback and suggestions on how we can make your weekend with us even more enjoyable. This is where we get the chance to thank our incredible team who have squeezed even more work and effort into already very busy lives to help us make Underneath the Stars Festival an unforgettable event. So to all the volunteers, site builders and decorators, backstage crew, onstage crew, bar staff, campsite team, medical staff, security detail, Concert MCs, Silkstone scout group, family events and workshop team, toilet and shower crew you are all amazing and we are eternally grateful, we are very aware an event of this type would never be possible without your dedication. This year’s line-up has once again been strongly influenced by our personal connections and experiences throughout our time in the music industry and we are humbled that such amazing performers have agreed to come
from around the world to entertain us in our small South Yorkshire Village of Cawthorne. Which leads us nicely on to give thanks for all the local support and patience from the residents of Cawthorne and High Hoyland. We understand it can be an inconvenience to have a weekend festival event happen on your doorstep and we aim to minimise any potential disruption. So we ask all our festival revellers to please be mindful of our surroundings and consider how lucky we are to have Underneath the Stars in this special location. We will forever be indebted to the wonderful Nicholson family, for allowing us to mob their beautiful fields and to evict their charming sheep from said fields (thank-you very much baaaahbara and ladies). Cannon Hall Open Farm is a fantastic family business and a huge inspiration to us, do go and take advantage of your half price entry to the farm with your weekend festival ticket or failing that grab a very tasty bacon sarnie and a cup of tea in their cafe in the mornings, you won’t be disappointed. We would just like to finish up by saying a massive thank you to you for coming and supporting our dream festival and we hope you have a very special weekend.

He is an indemand melodeon player for the likes of Ian Anderson, De Dannan, ‘Riverdance’ and as a regular in Cara Dillon’s band. He was also a soloist with the London Philharmonic Orchestra on the Howard Shore soundtracks for ‘Lord of the Rings’ and ‘The Hobbit.’ In his new guise as singer-songwriter, this master musician does not shy away from the big questions; exploring life, love, doubt and faith through the lens of our shared human nature. “Provocative and pleasingly reminiscent of the kind of ambitious folk-rock that has rarely been heard since the heyday of the likes of Gene Clark and The Byrds” – Songlines

The Cobblers’ music isn’t just uplifting – it’s often a full-on celebration. Their live shows are joyous occasions with a genuine warmth that would convert even the hardest of hearts. But don’t be fooled by the fun-factor; these are serious musicians with serious skills. They have an enviable knack with cleverly catchy choruses and can dash off a euphoric anthem as easily as a haunting ballad that can move audiences to a spellbound silence. kestoncobblersclub.com
BRUCE MOLSKY Sunday 26th • 6.00pm Planets Stage “There’s an incredible power of history and tradition in his vocals.” Linda Ronstadt.
BRUCE MOLSKY
Bruce Molsky stands today as the premier old-time fiddler in the world, the defining virtuoso of Appalachia’s timeless folk music traditions. That must feel odd for a former engineer from the Bronx, who didn’t begin a music career until he was forty. But folded into those strange facts is the secret to his unique genius. It’s a very personal sense of authenticity that deeply informs his music. Whether performing an ancient reel from Virginia, a Swedish waltz, or a loping cowboy ballad, Bruce presents himself as exactly who he is. He’s that unique blend of virtuoso and humble, nice guy that is irresistible to audiences.
