Dear readers Liebe Leser und Leserinnen ¡Y VAN 15!

desde 2001 cuando arrancó por primera vez un orgullo en Maspalomas. Mayo no era buen mes precisamente para nuestro destino, y ¡cómo ha cambiado la situación desde entonces!.

Por supuesto, como todo evento tiene su propia historia, y algún día sería digno contarla, pero por ahora valga esta editorial para recordar sus comienzos, cuando varios empresarios con el inestimable empuje de Darío Jaén, al que siempre recordaremos y a quien rendimos homenaje en nuestra sección Discofabolus, tomaron la iniciativa de crear un evento que se ha convertido en el más multitudinario de la isla.

Años mejor, años peor... ¡pero ya está aquí!

Sólo queda disfrutarlo.

THEY ARE 15 YEARS!

Since 2001 when the Pride in Maspalomas started for the first time. May was not a good month for our destination; and how the situation has changed since then! Of course, every event has its own story and someday it would be worth telling it, but for now this editorial is good enough to remember its beginnings,

when several entrepreneurs, with the invaluable thrust of Dario Jaen, whom we will always remember and we honor in our Discofabulous section, took the initiative to create an event that has become the most crowded in the island. Some year more… some year less but always here!

We have only to enjoy it.

Im Jahr 2001 wurde die erste Maspalomas Gaypride gefeiert.

Damals war der Monat Mai nicht der beste, aber das hat sich so was von geändert! Natürlich hat dieser Event eine spezielle Geschichte und die wird eines Tages auch erzählt, jedoch in dieser Ausgabe möchten wir einfach daran erinnern, wann alles angefangen hat. Als verschiedene Geschäftleute mit dem unermüdlich arbeitenden Dario Jaén, an den wir uns ganz speziell in unserer Rubrik Discofabolus erinnern, dieses Event möglich gemacht haben.

Gute Jahre, schlechte Jahre... jetzt ist es wieder soweit!

Es bleibt uns nur es gebührend zu feiern und Spass zu haben.

En la 15ª edición del Pride, nuestro más sentido y cariñoso homenaje a Darío Jaén, padre del Maspalomas Gay Pride. Activista convencido que la suma de esfuerzos logra mucho más. Que Maspalomas es un gran destino gay, y la necesidad de visibilizarlo como tal convenciendo a las autoridades de la necesidad de estar en las ferias turísticas “fuera del armario”, a pesar que la prensa por aquel entonces no lo viera con buenos ojos.

Trabajador hasta la extenuación, motor de tantas y tantas iniciativas que sembró, y de las que hoy podemos recoger frutos. Si UXXS no fue hijo de él, es justo recordar que fuimos “las niñas de sus ojos”.

During the 15th edition of the Pride, our heartfelt and affectionate tribute to Dario Jaen, Maspalomas Gay Pride father. An activist convinced that the sum of all efforts achieves more, that Maspalomas is a big gay destination and the need of making it visible convincing the authorities about the necessity to be in tourist fairs “out of the closet,” although the press at that time did not see it with good eyes.

Worker till exhaustion, engine of so many initiatives so that now we can pick fruits. If UXXS was not his child, it is fair to remember that we have always had him as a source of inspiration.

Bei der 15 Ausgabe der Gaypride, möchten wir Dario Jaén, Gründer der Maspalomas Gay Pride, mit unserem Gefühl und Liebe ehren. Überzeugter Aktivist, der mit seinem Streben viel erreicht hat.

Das Maspalomas zum großen Ziel Gay geworden ist, und die Notwendigkeit; der Regierung klar zu machen, das wir bei touristischen Messen geschätzt und anerkannt wurden. Er hat bis zur Erschöpfung an dieser wichtigen Sache gearbeitet und heute können wir Alle die Früchte seiner Arbeit ernten. Wir von Uxxs waren wie seine Kinder, das ist das an was wir uns gerne erinnern ” behütet und immer von ihm unterstürzt”

¿Qué hace un australiano como tú en Londres?

Bien, mi padre es nativo de Londres, y soy afortunado de tener doble nacionalidad. Tuve la oportunidad el año pasado de seguir el camino que comencé, trabajando en teatro o aprovechar la mayor oportunidad de mi vida: una audición para el show más importante del mundo en el otro extremo del mundo y experimentar la aventura en Londres. Así que me dije, nunca sabrás si no lo intentas, ¡a por ello!. Compré un tique sólo de ida... y aquí estoy.

¿Cómo es ser finalista de XFactor?

Muy surrealista. Daba miedo presentarse tal y como uno es en el escenario más grande del mundo, televisado a miles de personas. ¡Cuando lo pienso no lo creo!

Pero al fin del día, me di cuenta lo importante que era no cambiar quien soy y no correr riesgos como artista, así que todo lo que hice fue ser yo mismo al 100%.

Cuéntanos 3 secretos de tu éxito.

1) Ser tú mismo y dueño de lo que eres – no tener miedo de expresarte.

2) Labios rojo oscuro, tienen un largo recorrido, mwah xxxxx 2) Todo está relacionado con la felicidad. Haz lo que amas y serás feliz, todo lo fabuloso y positivo hace vibrar a la gente.

¿Y tu estilo?

Es divertido y no temo a la moda – es libre y fabuloso. Sólo recuerda que la moda no tiene géneros.

How an Australian guy ends in London?

Well my dad is originally from London, so I am really lucky to have dual citizenship. I had a choice last year, to continue the path I had trained in being involved in a lot of theatre work or to take the biggest chance of my life, audition for the biggest show halfway across the world and experience a new adventure that was here in London. So I told myself you never know if you don’t try and you got to go for it in this life! So i booked a one way ticket and here I am.

How is to be a finalist in X-Factor?

Very surreal, it’s a scary thing to fully put your true authentic self out there on the biggest stage in the world, televised to thousands of people. Thinking about it now I can’t believe it! But at the end of the day what was important was I didn’t change who I was and didn’t jeopardize myself as an artist, everything I put out there was 100% me.

Tell us three secrets of the success you’re living?

1) Being yourself and owning who you are – don’t be scared to express yourself.

Was macht ein Australier in London?

Mein Vater kommt ursprünglich aus London und für mich ist es toll 2 Nationalitäten zu haben. Ich hatte letztes Jahr die Möglichkeit meinen Weg, den ich auch gehen wollte, zu verwirklichen. Ich arbeitete am Theater und hatte die größte Chance meines Lebens: Mitzuwirken bei der größten Fernsehshow der Welt! X-Factor in London. Ich sagte mir, wenn Du es nicht ausprobierst dann weißt Du es nicht, also los! Ich kaufte nur ein Hinflug-Ticket.... und da bin ich.

Wie ist es im Finale von X-Facktor zu stehen?

Sehr unwirklich. Es ist schon angsteinflößend sich vor der ganzen Welt, so wie man ist zu

präsentieren. Wenn ich es noch mal überdenke, glaube ich es immer noch nicht! Jedoch am Ende des Tages muss ich sagen, war es gut das ich mich nicht verstellt habe, ich bin als „ich“ auf die Bühne zu 100%.

Y es que las hermanas Wachowski (directoras de Matrix, y ambas mujeres transexuales) han puesto toda la carne en el asador y no se han cortado un ápice en la trama, en la que las orientaciones sexuales, la identidad, la política y la globalización, enganchó al público. 8 personas, todas nacidas el 8 de agosto, de 8 países distintos, y todas ellas conectadas entre sí.

Laverne, al parecer, haría nada menos que del Dr. Frank N. Furer, o sea, que haría de “dulce travesti de la transexual Transilvania”. La película original, hecha en 1975, celebraría de esta forma su 40 aniversario. Dirigida por Kenny Ortega (High School Musical), y con participación de Adam Lambert y el propio Tim Curry (también en la original), desde luego no dejará indiferente a nadie. Eso sí, por una vez permítanme expresarme y dudar de que nos haga olvidar la transgresora versión original.

STONEWALL AGAIN Los 60´s fueron años muy turbulentos, con muchos movimientos sociales activos, como el movimiento afroamericano por los derechos civiles, el movimiento hippie y las manifestaciones contra la guerra de Vietnam. Este clima beligerante influyó para que se produjeran los disturbios de Stonewall. Este garito ni siquiera era un local de ambiente gay. Pertenecía a la mafia italiana y terminó siendo frecuentado por drags y chaperos porque tenía pista de baile. El dueño pagaba la “gayola”, un soborno a la policía, para poder servir alcohol aunque, aún así, una vez al mes se hacían redadas.

Normalmente se llevaban a los hombres vestidos de mujer y todo seguía igual. Sin embargo, la noche del 28 de junio del 69, algo hizo saltar la chispa. Policías manoseando a las lesbianas, coches patrullas que tardaron en llegar, un drag golpeando con su bolso a un agente… Una mujer esposada gritó: “¿Por qué no hacen algo?”…, y prendió la chispa…, el resto es historia. Un joven agredido con una barra metálica al salir de un bar en Chueca; un transexual golpeado tras pedir tabaco; una pareja de lesbianas acosadas por la calle;…, más de 20 incidentes al año sólo en Madrid. Y sólo se denuncia un 20% de las agresiones. Pues claro que debemos seguir reivindicando Stonewall un año más…, la lucha sigue,…, no podemos bajar la guardia.

riots took place. This joint was not even a local gay scene. It belonged to the Italian mafia and ended up being frequented by hustlers and drags because of the dance floor. The owner paid the “gayola” a bribe to the police, to serve alcohol but once a month raids were made. It usually carried men dressed as women and everything was the same. However, the night of June 28 in 1969, something blew the spark.

And the spark lit ... the rest is history. Of course we must continue to claim Stonewall another year ... the struggle continues ... we cannot let our guard down.

Die Polizisten fingen an, die Lesben zu befummeln, die Polizeiautos verspäteten sich, ein Drag schlug einen Agenten mit seiner Tasche... eine Ehefrau schrie: Warum machen sie denn nichts?...und alles explodierte im wahrsten Sinne...der Rest ist Geschichte. Ein junger Mann wurde angegriffen mit einer Metallstange als er aus einer Bar in Chueca raus kam; ein Transexueller wurde geschlagen als er um eine Zigarette bat; ein lesbisches Pärchen wurde auf der Strasse verfolgt und bedrängt;.... mehr als 20 Vorfälle in einem Jahr nur in Madrid und nur 20% davon wurden wegen der Agressionen angezeigt. Ist doch klar, das wir ein weiteres Jahr über die Vorfälle Stonewall berichten..., der Kampf geht weiter..., das dürfen wir nicht vergessen.

Los jóvenes disfrutan como gays, pero sin conocer a otros.

Al madurar, la mayoría se casa con mujeres. Pocos siguen viviendo como gays, mas no diciéndoselo a nadie.

La mayoría de la gente no cree en la homosexualidad, incluso no saben nada acerca de ella. No es fácil vivir fuera del armario en una sociedad donde la mayoría de las personas homosexuales esconde su orientación, y todos actúan como si fueran heterosexuales. ¿Cómo reacciona la gente al ver una pareja gay?

Al principio la gente no reconoce que una pareja sea gay, piensan que son sólo amigos, a menos que en público hagan algo como besarse. Entonces hacen chistes desagradables y se burlan públicamente. A veces incluso son acosados sexualmente. Hay quien le gusta tener contacto con ellos, pero temen ser vistos en público. Hay gente que llama a la policía porque es muy inusual aquí.

To be a gay in India is like a crime. In India it’s not allowed legally to get married or adopt. But some people live together without getting to know others about their sexuality.

What’s the worth for the GLBT Community in your country?

Is there a scene there (saunas, pubs, clubs, or some place)?

I don’t know much about this but yes they are arranging prides, activities and many other things but I never participated in that.

How does people react when they see a gay couple?

At first people do not recognize they are gay, they will think that couples are just friends unless the couples (gay people) don’t do some gay sex like kissing, smooching each other’s.

But if they recognize them, they try to make fun of them and crack silly jokes and tease them publicly.

People love to get physical with them but they are afraid of being with them in public. Sometimes in some cases they are sexually harassed. Sometimes people complain to the police so it’s very unusual here.

Is there an association for GLBT people?

Yeah, we have associations for GLBT, but I don’t know anything about them, very few people interact with an association as they don’t want to come out as gay.

And about laws for GLBT Community? Can they get married or adopt?

Yeah they have some clubs and organization in Mumbai. Mostly parties held on Saturday night (liquid lounge) in south Mumbai and some more places but I am not aware of this.

Mostly the parties are organized privately by someone and all the guests must be invited paying of course, but it’s reasonable.

Is there gay tourism in your country?

There are some destinations in India like Goa , Kerala , Delhi where a tourist can find gay friendly people.

Ja, die gibt es, aber ich weiß darüber leider nicht viel. Es gibt zu wenig Leute die bei diesen Organisationen mitwirken, da sie sich nicht als Gays in die Öffentlichkeit zeigen möchten.

Gay zu sein ist eine Straftat. Man darf auch nicht heiraten oder Kinder adoptieren. Es gibt welche die zusammen leben, aber sie reden mit keinem über Ihre Orientation.

ORGULLO PROUD / STOLZ

Llega mayo, el mes de nuestro orgullo. Van a ser días intensos: fiesta y mucha marcha. Pero ¿qué sentido tiene? ¿Emborracharse y disfrutar? Hay muchos que no le encuentran sentido, ¿para qué? Pues por todo lo que ha significado, por la gente que ha sufrido homofobia, y por quienes han luchado por conseguir los derechos que actualmente se ven con normalidad. Las más jóvenes casi desconocen ese pasado, y no toman conciencia de su significado: creen que todo está conseguido. Pero aunque hay más visibilidad y más respeto, la homofobia sigue ahí, y el orgullo debe servirnos como recordatorio: por nuestros derechos y por la igualdad. Todavía hay quien no puede disfrutar de esos derechos, de estas leyes, y quien a diario sufre discriminación y no puede vivir ni amar como desearía.

No celebramos esto.

Celebramos lo conseguido, y anunciamos a todo el mundo que sí se puede lograr.

Younger people almost unaware the past, and they are not aware of its meaning, believing everything is achieved. But although there is more visibility and more respect, homophobia is still there, and pride should serve as a reminder for our rights and for equality. There are still those who cannot enjoy these rights, these laws, and who daily suffer discrimination and cannot live and love as they wish.

We do not celebrate this.

We celebrate what has been achieved announcing to everyone that it can be done.

May, the month of our pride, is arriving. They will be intense days: holidays and lots of fun. But what's the point? Getting drunk and having fun? There are many people who do not find any meaning in all that, why?

Endlich kommt der Mai, der Monat unseres CSD. Es werden sehr intensive Tage mit vielen Partys sein.

Aber, was ist der Sinn? Sich besaufen und Spass haben?

Es gibt viele die darin keinen Sinn sehen. Wofür? Na für Alle die unter Homophobie gelitten haben, und für

diejenigen die sich für unsere Rechte einsetzen. Die jüngeren unter Euch kennen diese heftige Vergangenheit fast nicht und wissen nicht um die Wichtigkeit. Sie denken alles ist gut so und fertig.

Obwohl es mehr Respekt und Offenheit gibt, die Homophobie ist noch da und unser Stolz sollte uns immer daran erinnern: unsere Rechte und Gleichheit. Es gibt einige die dies noch nicht leben können, die nicht die geänderten Gesetze haben und die täglich unter Diskriminierung leiden, sie können nicht in Ruhe lieben und leben wie sie möchten.

Das feiern wir nicht. Wir feiern das was wir bis jetzt erreicht haben und zeigen damit das dies auf der ganzen Welt möglich ist.

Hay países del mundo donde te pueden ahorcar si eres homosexual; otros en los que el riesgo de ser detenido es muy grande – tengo dos muy queridos amigos rusos que esperan poder abandonar su país pronto, cansados de vivir una relación clandestina-; hay países, como Italia, donde el gobierno todavía está planteándose si reconocer los mismos derechos a las parejas homosexuales es legal, justo, o moralmente aceptable... y entonces ahí está Gran Canaria (en España) que se prepara para celebrar el más largo GayPride del mundo... ¡quince días! Dos semanas de fiestas, cabalgatas, noches locas, pero también eventos culturales, exposiciones, debates y actuaciones. No sólo diversión, por supuesto, sino también momentos de evaluación y reflexión.

En España la comunidad LGBT ha conseguido los derechos por los que han luchado por años, pero las demostraciones en nombre de la libertad y la igualdad nunca deben acabar porque incluso donde los homosexuales pueden casarse, alrededor todavía sigue existiendo la homofobia, y cada país civilizado debe ser un ejemplo para otros que todavía no aceptan la igualdad LGBT. ¿Preparado para formar parte del Maspalomas Gay Pride 2016? There are countries in the world where you can be even hanged if you are homosexual; other ones in which the risk of being arrested is strong - I have two dear russian friends who hope to abandon their country soon, tired of living a clandestine love relationship; there are countries, such as Italy, where the government is still deciding whether recognizing some rights to homosexual couples is lawful, fair, morally acceptable... and then there is Gran Canaria-Spain which is going to offer the longest Gay Pride celebrations in the world...

Fifteen days!!!!!! Two weeks of parties, parades, crazy nights but also cultural events, exhibitions, debates and performances.

Not only fun, therefore, but also moments of evaluations and reflections. In Spain the GLBT community has acquired the rights that it had claimed for years but the demonstrations in the name of freedom and equality should never end because even where gays and lesbians can marry fringes of homophobia still exist and each civilized country

Es gibt Länder auf der Welt, wo sie Dich dafür hängen dürfen weil Du homosexuell bist; in anderen wirst Du dafür fest genommen - ich habe 2 sehr gute russische Freunde, die darauf warten aus Ihrem Land gehen zu können, müde ein geheimes Leben zu führen; es gibt Länder wie Italien, wo die Regierung plant die Rechte der Homosexuellen im Grundgesetz als legal einzutragen. Gerecht oder sagen wir moralisch akzeptabel. Und dann gibt es Gran Canaria (Spanien) wo sich alle vorbereiten, die größte Gaypride der Welt zu feiern... 15 Tage lang!

2 Wochen Parties, Umzüge, lange Nächte, aber auch kulturelle Veranstaltungen, Ausstellungen, Debatten und Aufführungen. Nicht nur Vergnügen, sondern auch Momente der Bewertung und Reflektierung. In Spanien hat es die LGBT Gemeinschaft geschafft , die Rechte für Freiheit und Gleichberechtigung, für die sie jahrelang gekämpft haben durch zu setzen. Jedoch sollte damit nie aufgehört werden, da es auch hier immer noch Homophobie gibt und es noch viel Arbeit gibt, das die Community überall anerkannt wird. Seit Ihr bereit bei der Maspalomas Gaypride 2016 mit zu machen? Schließ Dich uns an und schrei es heraus, damit der Kampf nie aufhört und das wir keine Angst haben...! mit Spaß natürlich!

UNA BANDERA NO BASTA A FLAG IS NOT ENOUGH EINE FAHNE REICHT NICHT! Llega un año más el gay pride, y con él la demanda de servicios por quienes llegan a celebrarlo.

Rápidamente establecimientos de todo tipo preparan sus banderas arco iris, en un intento de atraer al público gay recién llegado, que no sabe lo que realmente se cuece detrás. No gay-friendly, sino gaymoney friendly. Se acepta lo gay, sólo porque hay dinero por medio.

Y tontos nosotros... caemos en la trampa, y perjudicamos a lo verdaderamente gay, que ha tenido que luchar por hacerse un espacio, en desigualdad de condiciones.

Es difícil reconocer estos cucos (como el pájaro que pone sus huevos en nidos ajenos, para que su pollo crezca expulsando a sus hermanastros), pero indaga un poco. Una idea... recoge revistas (no sólo la nuestra, hay más en Maspalomas), planos, visita webs, y verás quién invierte realmente en ti, quién se atreve a “salir del armario”, quién apoya realmente lo LGBT.

Lo demás... ponlo en duda.

Porque ¡una bandera, no basta!

Here comes another gay pride and with it the demand for services by those who come to celebrate it. Establishments of all kinds quickly prepare their rainbow flags in an attempt to attract the gay

public who does not know what really is behind all that. No gayfriendly, but gay moneyfriendly.

Gayness is accepted just because there is money involved. And we are so stupid to fall into the trap against the real gays who had to struggle to get an area for them in unequal conditions.

It is difficult to recognize these cuckoos (like the bird that lays its eggs in the nests of others so that chicks grow expelling their stepbrothers). An idea ... collect magazines (not just ours, there are more in Maspalomas), plan, visit websites, and see who really invests in GLBT, who dares to "come out", who really supports the community

Think about it because … a flag is not enough.

Und wie jedes Jahr kommt die Gaypride und die Nachfrage Aller die es feiern möchten. Schnell werden von den verschiedensten Geschäften die Regenbogen Fahne bereit gestellt, um zu versuchen, damit Gays

anzuziehen, doch leider mit einem schlechten Nachgeschmack. Nicht Gay-friendly, sondern Gay-money friendly! Die Gays werden nur akzeptiert, weil sie wissen, dass sie viel Geld mit uns machen können. Und was machen wir..... wir fallen drauf rein und schädigen damit den Ruf, der wirklichen Gays, der hart um Anerkennung und Gleichberechtigung gekämpft haben.

Es ist schwierig diese Schlauberger zu durchschauen (so wie der Vogel, der die Eier in fremde Nester legt, damit jemand anderer die Kinder aufzieht).

Eine Idee es raus zu finden wäre: nehmt die Magazine (nicht nur unseres, sondern die die in Maspalomas angeboten werden), Stadtpläne, Homepages usw., dann wirst Du sehen, wer wirklich hinter Dir steht, wer sich traut sich damit zu “outen” und wer die LGBT Gemeinschaft unterstützt.

Der Rest... aufgepasst, nur eine Fahne reicht nicht!

MI PRIMERA SALIDA DEL armario

My first coming out Mein erstes Outing hidden. Pride is teaching others that there is nothing to hide.

Alarmados, cuatro de mis alumnos acudieron a mí, casi interrumpiéndose unos a otros, nerviosos. “Profe, es urgente”.

Casi a la par el director del Centro me mandó llamar. Circulaban por el instituto unas fotos mías y de mi pareja sacadas de un perfil de la web: me las mostró en la pantalla del ordenador, y me invitó a borrarlo para evitar males mayores. Me negué: “no hay nada de lo que me tenga que avergonzar”.

En ninguna había desnudos, ni nada que me comprometiera. Era “simplemente” yo. La rumorología entre el profesorado se disparó, por lo que al día siguiente traje al instituto dichas fotos impresas, y durante el café las pasé a todas y todos. Y de paso les presenté a mi pareja que estaba en las fotos.

Todo acabó.

No hay nada malo en ser gay. Sólo lo malo se debe esconder. El orgullo es enseñar a los demás que no hay por qué esconderse.

Four of my alarmed students came to me, almost interrupting each other nervously. “Prof, it is urgent.” Almost simultaneously the director of the Center called me. Some pictures about me and my man were circulating all around the institute, taken from a profile of the web: he showed them to me on the computer screen inviting me to delete them to avoid bad effects. I refused, “there is nothing that has to embarrass me.” Nowhere we were naked, or anything that would compromise me. It was “simply” myself. The rumor mill among teachers soared, so that the next day I brought the printed photos in the institute showing them to everyone during the coffee break while I was introducing my boyfriend. That’s all.

Besorgt kamen 4 meiner Schüler zu mir, alle durcheinander sprechend, nervös. “Lehrer es ist wichtig”. Fast zur gleichen Zeit rief mich der Direktor der Schule an. Es gingen Fotos von mir in der Schule rum, von meinem Lebenspartner und mir auf einer Webseite: ich konnte es auf meinem Bildschirm auf dem Computer sehen und er verlangte von mir diese zu löschen um kein Aufsehen zu erregen. Ich weigerte mich: “Es gibt nichts wegen dem ich mich schämen müsste”. Es gab keine Nacktfotos etc.. Es war einfach nur “ich”.

Dann fing die Gerüchteküche an zu kochen zwischen den ganzen Lehrer Kollegen, deshalb brachte ich am nächsten Tag diese Fotos ausgedruckt mit in die Schule und während wir unseren Kaffee zusammen tranken gab ich sie herum, damit sie alle sehen konnten und nutzte die Gelegenheit meinen Lebenspartner vorzustellen. Alles beruhigte sich.

Es ist nichts schlechtes dabei Gay zu sein. Nur Schlechtes sollte man verbergen. Man sollte mit Stolz zeigen wer man ist, es gibt nichts zu verstecken.
