OPEN COURSE - This race is an open course. There will be cars on the road as well as runners. DO NOT step off the course into traffic, you will be disqualified. We want you to stay safe. CHOKE START - The start will be slightly “choked. If you are standing towards the back, after the gun goes off you may be standing for a few moments before there is any movement. This is to space everyone out and to avoid a rush. Your time does not officially start until you cross the starting line, so please be courteous to others as we start the race. PACERS - Pacers will line up at the start line around 6:18 am. There will be a pacer pacing the race in 5 minute intervals starting at a 1h40m pace up to 2h30m. We will also have a 2h45m and 3h pacer. GEAR CHECK - You will be given a Gear Check bag at the starting line if you wish. It will be a white garbage bag that you can fill with anything you want transported to the finish line. There will be permanent markers you can use to write your name and bib number. Avoid putting valuables in your bag. CLOTHING ON COURSE - We will have a clothing bin to dump items in at mile 3. Anything else found along the course will be treated as trash. ELEVATION (ft) - You can see the elevation map below. The course is a nice and easy slight downhill. The only thing to watch is around miles 4-6 where you get some uneven up and down along the trail portion of the course.

RACE GUIDE >>THE COURSE
“A man on foot will see more, feel more, enjoy more in one mile than the motorized tourists can in a hundred miles.
SPECTATOR INFO - Because of the significant amount of road control, spectators are not allowed to stop along highway 89 at any point along the race. Spectators are welcome at the starting line and are encouraged to be at the finish line to cheer on all our runners. Aside from the start and finish, the other best places to see your runner would be near Mile 3 at the LDS church off of Navajo Dr and anywhere along Lake Shore Drive. The last four miles of the course are inside the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area. If you plan to enter the park to cheer on your runner or wait for them at the finish line, entrance fees will apply. TRAIL - The area between Mile 5 and 6 is on a trail. There are areas with loose sand and some ups and downs. Be careful. OTHER COURSE INFO - Please do not litter on our course! Any kind of road markings with paint or even chalk will not be allowed. Please help us keep the area pristine for those who come after us. FOOD RECOVERY BOX - At the finish line we will have a Food Recovery Box (full of recovery snacks), bananas, and chocolate milk (as well as water and Nuun hydration). Please help yourself to one box, chocolate milk, and banana per runner.

PARKINGDROP-OFF In the morning, all runners can park in the parking lots (outlined in blue) near the start line around the high school and walk to the finish line. After the race, shuttles will take runners back to the start line from the finish line. These parking lots will open at 4:45am. Runners can be dropped off at a drop-off zone on the access road between the park and Safeway. Cars enter the drop-off zone by turning onto the access road off of S Lake Powell Blvd. and exit onto 6th Avenue. *There will be parking at the finish line. Park entrance fees will apply. Most hotels in Page are within walking distance of the start line, so feel free to walk in the morning and avoid the crowds and traffic.
DINNERHOST We have two pre-race dinner hosts this year, each offering a special discount for our runners. All runners need to do is show their bib to get the discount (only good for runners and does not include drinks). These are some great spots to eat while you’re in Page. Expect these places to be busy, so try to plan accordingly (call ahead and check availability and wait times) and maybe have a backup plan in case they’re full. Lake Powell Resort (The Rainbow Room) - The Lake Powell Resort, in addition to being a gracious host and our host hotel, is offering special 3 course meals to runners at their Rainbow Room restaurant. The meal includes salad, pasta, and dessert. $24 (+tax) 3 COURSE MEAL - Friday night only. 100 Lake Shore Dr, Page, AZ (928) 645-2433 · www.lakepowell.com/dining/wahweap-dining.aspx The River’s End Cafe - Open from 8:00am to 4:00pm, the River’s End Cafe offers a variety of sandwiches, salads, and wraps as well as snacks and a full espresso bar. RACE GUIDE >>CLUB & TRIFECTA
RAINBOWCLUB Our club hikes are a salute to the hardcore among us. We want to reward anyone who completes a designated club hike after the race. To join either club, submit a picture of yourself at Rainbow Bridge or Antelope Canyon within 72 hours of the end of the race which includes: 1) A clear view of your face 2) Your bib with bib numbers clearly visible 3) Your finisher medal in plain view Rainbow Bridge - Rainbow Bridge is located north of Wahweap Bay. Proceed to the mouth of Forbidding Canyon (buoy 49) and travel about 2 miles to a sign that points the way left through a narrow passage. Be careful approaching the dock and go slow. Rainbow Bridge is a 1-2 mile hike from the water’s edge. Rainbow Bridge can be accessed by private boat or rental. There are also boat tours that leave from The Lake Powell Resort. You may backpack to Rainbow Bridge across Navajo Nation lands. A permit from the Navajo Nation is required.
These hikes may be slightly cost prohibitive, which is unique to this race. Usually our club hikes are challenging but accessible to anyone able to accept the challenge. If you are in a position to complete either of these, we encourage you to do so. These are two truly remarkable natural wonders. Please be respectful of the sacred nature of both landmarks to the Navajo people.
ANTELOPECANYONCLUB Antelope Canyon - The canyon is located just east of Page, Arizona. It runs north, across Hwy 98, into Lake Powell. Antelope Canyon is at once one of the most breathtaking and tranquil places on earth. It is also heavily visited. In order to enter the canyon you must book a tour through a Navajo tour group. There are Navajo park fees and tour fees as well. There are several options of tour agencies. Our contacts in Page recommended Antelope Canyon Tours. Most we’ve seen have varying rates with children 5 and under being free (some are 6 and under). There is the Upper Canyon (the most commonly photographed) and the Lower Canyon. Each have their own tour. You should look into it and see which one is more interesting to you. Whichever you choose, be sure to take a picture with your bib and medal in the canyon. Only pictures taken inside the slot canyon will be accepted. Antelope Canyon is long and runs all the way to Lake Powell. No pictures from Antelope Canyon aywhere other than inside on a tour will be accepted.

RACE GUIDE >>CLUB & TRIFECTA
LAKE POWELLTRIFECTA The Lake Powell Trifecta is comprised of 3 different activities. You must complete all 3 in order to complete the Trifecta. Same rules as the Club Hikes apply: take your picture at each of the 3 with your bib and finisher medal and send them to us 72 hours after finishing the race. The Trifecta is meant to be challenging, but less strenuous. These are iconic activities in the area that should be experienced, but are doable with children. The 3 activities that makeup the Trifecta are:
1 Horseshoe Bend - Horseshoe bend is probably the easiest hike with the biggest payoff you will ever experience. Just 1.5 miles roundtrip, this hike offers an overwhelmingly large yet intimate view of the Colorado river as it winds down toward the Grand Canyon. The trailhead to Horseshoe Bend is located just a short distance south of Page on the 89.
2 The Dam - The picture you submit must be of you ON THE DAM. No other pictures will be accepted (from the bridge, etc.). In order to get on the dam you will need to take a dam tour. Tours are operated out of the visitors center by the Glen Canyon Natural History Association. The tour takes approximately 45 minutes. You can read more about the tours here.
3 Swim In The Lake - The average water temperature in October is 69 degrees. That might be a little chilly to some, but you can’t come all the way to Lake Powell and not go for a little swim! The picture you submit of you swimming in the lake must show you went all the way in. Ankle deep or wading pictures will NOT BE ACCEPTED.

Do not play your music without headphones for all to hear. • Your bib will have a timing chip on the back.NO CHIP = NO TIME.
• Lucid Images will be taking photos at the start line, on the course, and at the finish line. • To be sure you can find your picture later, wear your bib with the numbers clearly visible at all times. If the photographers cannot identify you by your bib then your photo will end up in an “unidentified runner” folder on their website. • Photos are usually available on Lucid Images website the Wednesday or Thursday following the race. LOST & FOUND • There is no official lost & found. If we find lost items we will hold onto them and you can contact us at info@vacationraces.com • There will be gear check at the start line. • There will be a bin to dump extra clothing at mile 3. Anything found littered on the course elsewhere will be considered trash and either thrown away or donated.

RACE RESULTS • Results will be available later the morning of the race. We will post them on Facebook and also send them in a post-race email the day or two after the race. They will also be available on our website.
POST-RACE SURVEY • Within a week of race day we will be sending out a post-race survey. We would really appreciate it if you took the 5-10 minutes to complete the survey for us. The survey provides us with information that allows us to better work with the local community and gain more support for future races, but more importantly it provides us with valuable insight into what we are doing well and what we need to improve. We love our runners and couldn’t improve our race series without your feedback. Please watch for the email.

CUP-FREERACING Having our races so close to the national parks, unnecessary waste and trash is something we are strongly against. We are dedicated to maintaining a clean race and preserving the beauty of the area we run in. There is nothing that will ruin a view more than seeing a piece a trash in plain view from a breathtaking landscape. That being said, one of the most important things in a half marathon is ensuring that aid stations are plentiful, efficient and that they do not run out of water. Hydration will make or break a race. What we do is offer a Hydrapouch for every runner that indicated they wanted one as part of their registration. Other options include running with a water bottle, fuel belt, camelbak or other hydration backpack, etc. Every runner prefers something different. Just make sure you have some way to stay hydrated! Although we don’t have cups on the course, we have plenty of aid stations with water and electrolyte drink! At this race, the water at the first aid station will be hooked up to a system like the one pictured on the left. Each of these pipes will provide water from the several speed valves we have attached. At other aid stations we will have blue coolers with water and red coolers with nuun (electrolyte drink). Both will have the same speed valves attached. So at each aid station you will have your choice of water or nuun. The aid station will have a few cups in case of an emergency, do not plan on using them. Also, under no circumstances should you put your head under the valve to get a drink. Not only does this waste water, it is pretty inconsiderate of other runners.
