A Last Slice of Summer Watermelon is a sweet and refreshing fruit (although it belongs to the botanical family of gourds that includes vegetables like cucumber, squash and pumpkin) enjoyed in the heat of summer and throughout the early days of autumn. With 92 percent water content, watermelons are soaked in nutrients, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. Mark Twain proclaimed that “to taste a watermelon is to know what the angels eat”. Native to Africa, these picnic and beach day staples have been cultivated since ancient times. At only 84 calories per wedge, watermelons soothe sore muscles, lowers blood pressure and could even combat cancer. At the Val de Vie Wellness Farm, hundreds of watermelons ripened during the hot summer months and are ready to be harvested. Residents are invited to head down to the Wellness Farm, where the farm assistants will help you select the most succulent of the crop. Use them in a refreshing cocktail or eat them as is - a perfect snacking shape whencutintotriangles, withadashofsalttoelevatetheirflavour.

Strain into a tall glass filled with ice blocks and top with soda water. Garnish with watermelon and mint.

Building more than Homes Without the reassurance of a professional in charge, building your dream home can be a complex undertaking. Since 2015, Val de Vie Construction has made the building process enjoyable and hassle free for over 300 homeowners on the Estate. There are many aspects involved in building a house, and once you've selected a stand on the Estate, consultation with your construction project management team should begin. First, Val de Vie Construction will evaluate your stand and determine your home's ideal placement, size, and orientation. After that, the team appoints an architect and oversees the complete design process from concept to submission and approval from the municipality and HOA. The Val de Vie Construction team is well-versed in the aesthetic guidelines and HOA building standards of the Estate, which means that plans are submitted once, saving time and money. Once plans have been approved, it's time to start choosingspecificationswiththeguidanceoftheteam. Take the Jump Showjumping is a great way to strengthen the bond with your horse and an accurate test of horsemanship. The Val de Vie Equestrian Club is hosting a training show in April to give riders some exposure to what it is like to step into the showjumping arena for the first time. As one of three Olympic equestrian sports, showjumping is arguably one of the most mainstream equestrian competitions. This exciting speed- and accuracy-driven sport is a lot of fun for riders and horses alike. In addition, taking part in show jumping shows is an excellent way of testing your boundaries and, of course, reaching beyond them. The training show is open to riders of all levels, and there is even a class for the high-paced polo players to see if they can sit a jump. Entries to the training show close 25 April. Even for non-horse people, show jumping is an excellent spectator sport. The format is easily recognisable and quick to learn, even for those unfamiliar with how the sport is judged. So, what better way to spend a

Very little work will be done on the course this year, as we did three years of work over the past year during quiet periods of lockdown. Instead, focus on the course will be on some tee box enlargements and extensions, cart path and curbing and many irrigation upgrades. We are through the worst of the heat now and look forward to aerating the fairways, tees and greens from 18 April onwards. Please keep in mind that hollow tining is from 18 - 29 April.
