CINEMA CINE
A Curiosity to Discover the World Through Visuals Curiosidad para Descubrir el Mundo a Través de lo Visual
Diego Ruvalcaba
“Art is the expression of the artist. Although art lacks a specific figure, it has many ways of being made, which means that the artist shares a vision of how it relates to its environment.” —Diego Ruvalcaba, filmmaker. —Diego Ruvalcaba, cineasta.
“The foundation of my understanding of cinematic art has been experimentation and playing with what I’m doing, feeling that everything I do is first for me and then projected outward. That nourishes me and stimulates me to continue as an audiovisual creator.”
Cinema is the last of the arts to be added into the category of fine arts. In some way, cinema synthesizes and concentrates the other arts, since it adds its own elements through technical resources and forms of discourse composition.
Having studied in Visual Arts at Centro Universitario de Arte, Arquitectura y Diseño, the career of Vallarta filmmaker, Diego Ruvalcaba, has stretched eight years, a period during which he has made works based on highlighting the aesthetics of the imperfect.
“In each of my pieces I try to get away from that artificial part of creating a world with a lot of beauty or exquisite perfection. I think that art should be a more natural entity, so I like to humanize cinema and adapt as much as I can to the ecosystem that surrounds me.”
For Ruvalcaba, the natural attributes of Puerto Vallarta and Riviera Nayarit, as well as the traditional customs of its residents, have provided many opportunities as a creator and allowed for him to film “from the roots” what it means to live here.
“The things that are done in the cinema must have two important elements: the intention and the truth. I see the truth as having an honest heart that allows us to do organic things to portray the reality in which we live. The intention is to know that what I am doing is going to touch the emotions of those who appreciate it,” concludes Ruvalcaba.
