HELLO! ¡OLÁ! ¡HOLA!

In the year of that the UK celebrates Mexico (www.mexicouk2015.mx/en/dual-year) - ¡VAMOS! Festival returns for its 10th edition between 4 and 14 June 2015 celebrating Spanish and Portuguese speaking cultures with events across North East England. Over eleven days and two big weekends we’re very excited to present amazing acts across all art forms! Music legends Kid Creole and the Coconuts headline our Summer Evening Party on June 13 following our popular all day ¡VAMOS! Picnic at Summerhill Bowling Club. Tickets are limited and can be purchased from www.seetickets.com. Kid Creole will be joining a festival programme including Mexican Wrestling star ‘Cassandro’, as the wildly popular Boiler Shop Steamer goes ¡VAMOS!; UK Premieres from Peruvian and Mexican street artists; an International Conference at Newcastle University; a Mexican themed Mardi Gras Parade; innovative Flamenco at Sage Gateshead; Screenage Kicks with a rare screening of Holy Mountain, and even a pop-up restaurant for chocolate-lovers at Newcastle College! ¡VAMOS! is also putting down real roots this summer as we permanently take over the former ‘Venue’ nightclub in Newcastle, where some of the festival’s events will take place. Keep up to date on this exciting venture in partnership with Breeze Creatives by following ¡VAMOS! on Facebook and Twitter. Reaching the 10th edition would not have been possible without the generous support of our funders and partners. We are extremely grateful to Arts Council England, Newcastle University and Instituto Cervantes for their support in the ¡VAMOS! project. Finally we’d like to thank all the artists and audiences from the North East, nationally and internationally who help make the ¡VAMOS! experience such a special time of year. We hope you can join us for what we think will be the best one yet! Nikolas Barrera, Patricia Oliart, Sara Lourenco and Jill Bennison

Selectorchico™ presents:

A transmedia project involving the re-discovering of Uruguayan record label Macondo (named after García Marquez´s fictional town) and its 70s productions. The label emulated the tropical music styles that were popular at the time but mixed them with Afro-Uruguayan traditional drums. This created a breakthrough, which we could now risk to retrospectively call a Subtropical music. Selectorchico™ is the founder of Montevideo´s Club Subtropical, and for the start of ¡VAMOS! 2015 presents a vinyl cover artwork exhibit and vinyl-only DJ Set. Check out the mixtape Revistando Macondo Vol. 1 at Soundcloud /Mixcloud to see whats in store!

YEARS LATER TY EN TW A T S E I F L TRANSNATIONA

(2012, Peru/US, 60 minutes)

Transnational Fiesta: Twenty Years Later is an ethnographic film by Wilton Martínez and Paul H. Gelles. The first film, Transnational Fiesta: 1992, portrayed the celebration of the traditional fiesta for the Virgen del Carmen in the indigenous Andean community of Cabanaconde, Arequipa, with the participation of a community of migrants in Maryland, in the US. The second film shows the influence of the migrant community in Cabanaconde. The economic importance of remittances and the political and social influence of migrants in the development and the future of Cabanaconde continues to increase. Although not without tension, the celebration of the patron saint fiesta remains alive as a source of cultural reproduction. Includes an introduction with the director Wilton Martínez
