LLIIS STTE EN NIIN NG G Manoel de Borba Gato was a pioneer from São Paulo of the seventeenth century. Took an active part of the great banner headed by his father-in-law Fernão Dias Paes. The purpose of this flag was to find emeralds. Borba handed the fate of the expedition when Dias was feeling he would die. Pratically lived in the jungles for 20 years between 1680 and 1700. Rodrigo Castelo Branco, Spanish nobleman, was sent to inspect the gold mines. In the meeting of Don Rodrigo and Borba Gato there was much discussion, since both were brash genius. Two uses pages of Borba Gato, witnessing the violent quarrel, feared for the life of the pioneer, and ultimately killed the Spanish nobleman. Borba has been blamed for the death of Don Rodrigo and was forced to flee the wilderness, taking refuge in his uncle's house on the banks of the Rio Doce. He was a founder of the villages of Caeté and Sabara and later managed by his family and friends, a pardon of the crime imputed to him. Grateful for having restored his freedom, he reveals to the Governor the location of the gold mines he had discovered, so he could return to live with his family. The governor appointed him as greatest guard of the region of Minas Gerais, with the task of collecting for the city the fifth of gold, according to the law, despite a life of sacrifice and problems, ended his days in peace.
