Children, pre-teens, and teens ages 4-18 will have the opportunity to express how they see the world around them through gallery visits and a variety of art-making activities, using a variety of techniques and media.

Adapted Services Ages 7 - 12 years Art Therapy- ASD: Ages 7-12 | VAG | Tuesdays, Apr 4 – May 23 | 4 – 5 p.m. | Sarah Bedley | Barcode: 296647 | Cost: $80 This course offers children with Autism Spectrum Disorders a safe and supportive environment for creative growth. Through drawing, painting and sculpting, children will have the opportunity to express themselves, use imaginative thinking, stimulate develop.m. ental growth and gain social skills. They will work independently as well as collaboratively on art projects. Art projects will be based on goals set in the initial meeting between participants and art therapist. The Varley Art Gallery exposes students to some of the best artists in Canada through interactive tours and art activities. Our young artists get their inspiration from the artworks on show and spend the day focusing on their own masterpieces by participating in full-day mixed media workshops - painting, drawing, and sculpture. Our professional artist/instructor will introduce your children to the principles and elements of colour and design, whilst encouraging self-expression and experimentation. These art fundamentals are essential in developing both observation, spatial skills and co-ordination. More challenging and designed for the curious and tactile child, this class will explore the wonderful world of three-dimensional art! Projects emphasize creative thinking and exploration of materials while developing additive and subtractive sculpting techniques, building skills and improvement of coordination. The course will focus on the basics of drawing such as comparative sight training and incorporate the study of perspective, shading, composition and color theory. The class includes discussion and trips to the gallery to learn through interacting with the artwork in the current exhibitions.
