February 2021 Run

It was “40 miles of Bad Road” for the VOG’s this month when Bob Kinnaird took us once again around the Red Zone of Avonside/ Dallington. Who said a Velosolex couldn’t fly, well I’m sure my machine jumped about 300mls off the ground when I hit a storm water manhole – probably the riders fault through not concentrating fully on the job at that time, instead of viewing the surrounding scenery (even that wasn’t very attractive). I guess the time is going to come when these roads are not going to be navigable for Solex’s and cyclists alike. There’s no way the Council are ever going to maintain these now forgotten roads. A smaller turnout this month but still a good number of 11 enthusiastic riders turned up on 9 Feb on a somewhat doubtful day, the odd spot of rain didn’t quite dampen our spirits as we headed off on another momentous expedition into the unknown. Fortunately not a very long ride this time as once we got back to our lunch break at the new Richmond Club our bodies and bikes were all but shaken to pieces.

Thanks Bob for organising this run – winner of our illustrious trophy this time was Dave Backhouse, he cheated coming back on Avonside Drive by taking the high road on the smooth cycle track along the river bank, and, what’s more, passed the organiser! A cardinal sin. ROYCE
