March 2022 Run

Sharing the workload around has been my motto over the past 4 years and what a difference it makes not having the responsibility of working out a fresh route each month for “The Gang”. March was Noel Nevin’s turn and he organised a short Rural Gallop for us in the Lincoln / Greenpark district but golly some of the boys were geographically challenged working out how to get to the starting point at 134 Carters Rd Greenpark. There seemed to be some confusion in which roads to take, - Google maps explained it quite well but alas not all used that facility. Never mind – 15 riders turned up on the day all raring to go. Noel lead us off around River Rd and onto the Little River Rail Trail heading towards Lincoln. A bit of a rough track especially when we took a wrong turning and ended up in an area full of thick gravel, this caused all sorts of problems with our narrow tyres that are not really designed for this type of terrain. Noel soon realized the folly of his ways and about turned to find the correct direction of the track but alas we had suffered some casualties along the way with Pieter Maat and Tony White both getting punctures from the sharpish edges on the stones. Pieter’s tyre made a very impressive bang as a result of the blowout, Gary Thompson thought he had been the victim of a terrorist attack and was quite pleased when he managed to stay upright on the saddle and all was fine. We finally made it to the correct track and headed over Liffey Stream onto some nice smooth tarseal putting the lads in a much more relaxed frame of mind in preparation for the nosh up at the Famous Grouse Hotel at Lincoln where we were looked after very well by the friendly staff. But gosh it was very quiet – hardly a soul around like all hospitality establishments at the moment. Another great natter and grazing time made for an enjoyable day.

After lunch it was just a direct route on the roads back to the start finish line on Carters Rd. Thanks Noel for a great day out – once again the weather gods were kind to us. Royce
