A word from the Editor

The weather is warming up and we are back with another issue! If you don't already, be sure to go and subscribe to our Youtube channel at www.youtube. com/vegasautomag, like our Facebook page and follow us on Instagram! We appreciate all the love and support. Using social media to share your rides, events and cool things happening around town is on of the fastest ways to share. Be sure to tag us in anything you want us to check out. We put this magazine together because we love all things automotive. We couldn't do this without your help! Your help can come in many forms. Tell a local business about us. The way we are able to keep our magazine running is by having paid sponsors/advertisers. Read every issue and subscribe to our email list. Spread the word! Tag friends in our posts and share links to our stories. If you are holding an event, please let us know in advanced. We love to come check out all types of events. This issue we check out three super unique rides. Adrian's 87 Toyota Supra can be seen on the cover. When we talk about Supras you usually have an image already in your head. Well for me it is the MK3 body style that pops in my head. My best friend growing up got this same body style car when he turned 16 years old and it was one of the first cars to spark my interest in the aftermarket auto world. We took that car to all the car meets around town. I was a few years younger so I didn't even have my drivers license yet. Adrian and his brother did a great job bringing this car back to life. We also caught up with Alvin and his 2014 Porsche Boxster. We have actually ran into Alvin quite a few times at local shows and meets. His car sure has made a transformation the past few months! He chose a unique style to keep it fresh for himself. Last but not least, we got to check out Nickolas' 91 R32 Nissan Skyline GTR! This is on my wish list so it was awesome to get up and close with one. We also went to a ton of shows in one weekend! We wanted to show you that there are always shows happening for free all around town and most are family friendly. Check it out! Thanks everyone! We hope you enjoy! Don't forget we put out tons of content on our social media pages, websites and YouTube through out the month as well so be sure to follow us.

Taking it back Make your car your own.. even if it means adding a koi pond. IMAGES Adrian Mirabal

WORDS Clinton Rowley

T

he Porsche Boxster is a two seater, mid engine sports car. They already come from the factory setup as a very sporty and reliable ride but this one was made to stand out. Alvin Balahadia has been a huge supporter of us since we started Vegas Automotive Magazine. We realized we needed another feature for this issue and what felt like destiny Alvin hit us up right then and was able to meet same day. It never works out like that! Alvin is a veteran with 12

years of active duty under his belt, and is married to his wife Cristina and they have 4 kids together. Originally from Los Angeles Alvin is a car guy through and through. Having been in the import scene since 1994 in Los Angeles, he knows his way around a car show. His past cars include a 1988 Honda CRX, 1995 Acura Integra GSR, 2002 Subaru WRX, 2002 Mercedes C240, and a 2013 Kia Optima K5. The piece de resistance is his 2014 Porsche Boxster.

In March 2018 he picked up his 2.7L F-6, 300 hp Boxster after a near death experience, he went looking for a couple luxury cars but nothing seemed to take hold until they pulled up in this ride at Porsche Gaudin Las Vegas. It was in perfect condition and certified used. The Porsche’s style is unique, Alvin told us he wanted to put a 90’s vibe on a modern car. There is something special on this car from tip to tail including Alvin’s two favorite parts, a Nintendo switch, and a koi pond in the trunk! system. The wheels are swapped from a Carrera S and are running Eagle F1 Supercar tires. Exterior mods include one-off canards, splitter, skirts, and rear diffuser. Custom graphics cover the entire car for an eye-catching look and a Rennline tow hook with a GoPro adapter. Inside is filled with LEDs, the Nintendo Switch and koi pond previously mentioned, and custom Deliteron floor mats. The Braum seats, Planted Technology seat brackets, Sabelt racing harnesses, and Agency Power harness bar are made for a Cayman and had to be modified to fit his car. The audio system is powered by a Kenwood deck that supports a car full of JL Audio speakers. As for the engine Alvin kept it pretty simple with K&N Filters, Fabspeed headers, and a Borla exhaust. His original plans were to track the car but he changed his mind for a show car instead, and wants to drag his B20 swapped Integra. Like most projects it is never done and ever changing and could be completely different in no time at all. Recently he won hottest trunk at Hot Import Nights and is hungry for more awards. You can find Alvin hunting for hole in the wall restaurants or turning heads at the meets and shows.

Alvin has a Koi Pond he sets up at shows!

nfortunately I was not able to attend Import Face Off this time around although I did attend the previous one. Luckily John Davis JR was out there getting some photos and shared them with us. It looks like the day was full of fun, family, friends and racing! If you have not been to Import Face Off check them out! We have a video and previous feature on them as well. It is an action packed day with drag racing, show n shine, drifting, car limbo and more. Definitely a show to check out for yourself. The show has been going on since 2001. They run 40+ events every year.

Made my car bump for FREE! IMAGES AND WORDS Clinton Rowley

! R E N N I W NER! WIN

At The Mint 400 Desert Clean-Up, I won my first raffle! My prize was a $1000 gift certificate to Rockford Fosgate. While I impatiently waited for them to contact me I looked at what I wanted to get over and over again. Did I want a massive setup for the Subaru with two twelve inch speakers to rattle the license plate? Or did I want two modest combos for both of my cars? Around a week after the race was over I received my email and it took me no longer than 10 minutes to put in my order. I decided on two loaded subwoofers with a single 12 speaker, for both of my cars. Now I’m going to show you how an amateur installs a subwoofer for the first time in his daily driver. I do recommend going to a respected audio installer to get everything done nice and neat, which is what I’ll be doing for my GTI. First thing I did was disconnect my battery, since I’m dealing with some expensive gear and I don’t want to ruin anything. After that I pulled all of my kick panels off from the front running to the back on both sides of the car. In the process I broke a few clips seeing as plastic in Vegas heat turns into peanut brittle. Back in high school I had friends who routed their positive cable up through the hood and in the driver door. One, that looks horrid. Two, you’ll ruin your door. Three and most important you’ll destroy your positive cable and end up with a short. So I found a nice grommet in the firewall and pushed the cable through. Running the power

and volume knob cables to the back on the driver side was pretty easy. On the passenger side, I ran the audio cables and remote turn on wire. In the back if the car you need a decent ground that has no paint on it and I found one on the rear seat mount. Once I had everything in the vague area it needed to be I plugged everything into the aftermarket stereo that came in the car. I attached the positive wire to the positive side of the battery and mounted the fuse in a safe location and then turned the car on. My lights looked good but I had no noise, I spent the better part of an hour tracing the cable paths and unplugging and plugging everything back in to no avail. Defeated I call tech support and after a half hour long phone call he determines it is either my deck or my amp… Defeated I start putting everything back starting in the rear making sure all of the cables are tucked in neatly, until I get in the front and saw the volume knob, it couldn’t be that could it? It was. I turn it up and the bass starts bumping! It was a fairly straightforward process and I learned a lot thanks to Youtube tutorials. Now I have to get the gain set by a pro with an oscilloscope to ensure the longevity and that there isn’t any clipping. I couldn’t be happier with my free setup and can’t wait to hear it after its broken in!

ROADWORTHY AND LOADING.... Tearing the streets up in Supra Sunrise. IMAGES AND WORDS Adrian Mirabal

Full Photo Album atwww.Vegasautomag.com

W

hen you hear the words Toyota Supra together you already get excited because you know whatever is coming next is going to be awesome! That is true when you check out Adrian Lomeli’s 1987 Toyota Supra! His car is rocking a 3.0L 7M-GTE with a 5 speed transmission R154 behind it.

Adrian is originally from El Paso, TX but is currently living in Las Vegas and working as a Model, Actor, Ballroom and Latin Dance Instructor/Choreographer. The Supra was actually Adrian’s first car he got 11 years ago while living in Texas. His brother had blew the engine in it racing and he asked Adrian if he wanted the car and he said HECK YES! Adrian paid to have a new engine put in. It wasn’t always his dream car but after seeing what it could turn into it quickly became his dream car He said he has always had an admiration towards custom vehicles. He loves art and he thinks of cars as a canvas on 4 wheels. Adrian

said “People’s imagination come to life to show their work to other car enthusiasts and even awaken those desires hidden in others.” The Supra recently stayed with Adrian’s brother who did a lot of the work on the car before sending it to Vegas to it’s home with Adrian. Since it was his first car he has tons of memories with the car. Adrian told us about a time when he did a rolling burnout from 1st to 3rd gear and spun the car out about 2 and a half rotations backing into a fence. He tried to start the car and it wouldn’t start. The owner of the property was sitting on his porch and saw the whole thing! Adrian was only 16 with no license or

17

insurance. The man’s wife wanted to call the cops but Adrian’s brother offered to fix the fence if they did not call the cops and they ended up agreeing. Talk about dodging bullets! The car came back into Adrian’s life recently after moving it down to Vegas with him. The only goal he has left is to have it running strong with no issues. His vision continues to be to build a car with a clean 7M-GTE. There is still so much more to do Adrian tells us. The biggest setback is just funds. As most of us know that is usually a huge factor in the modification game. Adrian plans to spread the build across the years as he has time and funds. It is sitting pretty already so I can’t wait to see what Adrian does with the car in the future. We asked him what his favorite part is on the car and he told us the paint job and the sunrise painted under the hood are his favorite parts of the build. It was refreshing to see someone showing so much love to an MK3 Supra and we are stoked we had the opportunity to check it out. You can catch Adrian running around Vegas at the local car meets, enjoying some sushi or exploring all the art and wilderness Vegas offers.

COMMUNITY, CULTURE AND CONVERSATION

We go to as many car shows as possible in one day! WORDS AND IMAGES Adrian mirabal

One of the many things I love about being a part of the automotive industry is the three C’s, Community, Culture and Conversation. If you look around at any (legal and sanctioned) event, car show or meet you will see people from all walks of life talking about their rides, kids playing around and activities for the whole family. To most people this is a time to get away from their regular work life, take a break and enjoy a day or weekend away, sometimes even just a few hours. For the people bringing their customized rides it is always nice to see other people in awe and appreciate your build and to the ones still dreaming it is nice to mingle, learn new things and just have a good time. Growing up, my family didn’t always have a lot of money. One of the things I learned was that having a good time and making new memories doesn’t cost money. We put together a free event calendar in every issue as well as share flyer's on our social media all

the time. The reason I like to do this is to give the community things to do! A ton of these car meets, shows and events are very low cost or actually free to attend. The one thing I want to see more of is people bringing their kids out to enjoy. You never know when that one car experience can make a lasting impression and help set someone on the right path in life. Just to prove it to myself I decided to wake up early one weekend and go to as many meets/ shows as I could and take my family to some as well. Here are the shows I was able to attend: The Car Show on Eastern, Caffeine and Chrome at Gateway Classic Cars, The Injured Police Officer’s Fund Car Show, Forbidden Fantasy and The NAPA Auto Parts Benefit Car Show. Every one of these shows was free to attend and were jam packed! Check out these photos from the shows along with some details on where to learn more. Please take advantage of the perfect weather and spend some time supporting your local car scene! Tag us in any photos! Enjoy!

All of the images from these first two pages are from Forbidden Fantasy. This is a mini truck heavy show held at the Avi Resort in Laughlin Nevada. The show goes on across two days and is held on the back side of the resort beachfront. There is a beach to the river right behind the grassy area where a majority of the show takes place. Laughlin is a short day trip away and it was well worth the drive.

Every month and every week you can find multiple "Cars and Coffee" inspired events. We checked out two of them back to back. The Car Show on Eastern is held every Saturday morning and Caffeine and Chrome is held the last Saturday of every month. You can find the details on our events page. At Gateway Classics Caffeine and Chrome you can find free donuts and coffee in their show room! That is always a bonus. At both of these events you will find tons of local enthusiasts showing off their rides and having a good time. We jump around to these often to find new vehicles to feature and meet new enthusiasts.

The next two shows we checked out was the NAPA Auto Show Benefit Car show and The Injured Police Officers Fund Car Show. These were both local and only about a 20 min drive from home. Both of these shows had tons of things for the kids to do including a motorcycle simulator, carnival, food eating contests and more!

inton Rowley WORDS Cl rian mirabal IMAGES ad

The R32 is nothing if not famous, being one of the most coveted cars didn’t come easily, Nissan put a massive amount of work into making it the rocket it is. Lovingly dubbed “Godzilla,” by Australian press after the R32 decimated 4 Group A championships down-under. Between a multitude of races won and its inclusion in the Gran Turismo video game series the Skyline GT-R is a racing icon around the world.

Growing up Nickolas Alarcon played plenty Gran Turismo, leading to the purchase of his 1991 Nissan Skyline GT-R while stationed in Japan with the Air Force. Hailing from Pembroke Pines, Florida Nickolas joined the military in 2002 after he decided college wasn't for him. He met his wife of over 6 years while over seas and they have a 2 year old daughter together. He got into cars originally while

playing racing video games, he says, “It was such a blast to modify car’s and see how fast you could make them go.” While in Tokyo Nickolas was overwhelmed by the amount of awesome cars that we didn’t have here in the states. At first he had his eyes set on buying a 22b STI Impreza but a price tag of $40,000 put a stop to that real quick. When he nabbed his R32 you could find them as low as $7000, they have easily gone up to $25-$30k since then.

From a dealership in Tokyo to the streets in vegas

As far as modifications Nickolas has kept everything very tasteful and clean. Lowered just a tad on Vertex Coilovers, and stiffened up a bit with Ikeya Formula lower control arms. 18 inch WORK CR Kiwami wheels wrapped in Toyo Proxes keep this all-wheel-drive monster stuck to the pavement. On the outside Top Secret aero covers the front lip, front defuser and hood. Carbon fiber front fenders, and a Fujimura Auto Rocket Dancer spoiler tie everything together. For the interior Nickolas swapped in dome R33 front seats and installed a MOMO GTR2 steering wheel, the audio system has a Pioneer deck pumping tunes into a full gambit of Infinity speakers. The heart of the R32 also known as the RB26DETT has been juiced up a little. Tuned in Japan by JUN Machine Shop, with R35 injectors and MAF sensor. A Spitfire coil pack tells the spark plugs when to do their magic. Twin HKS GTSS turbos force air for all those ponies. The intake is also HKS with their Super Power Flow air intake system that leads to an R34 downpipes into a Tanabe 3 inch Exhaust. Nickolas says his favorite memory with the car was when he picked it up in California at the port and being able to drive it in his home country. If you are looking you can usually find him eating Thai food or cruising the highways through Red Rock and Valley of Fire. I mean who wouldn’t love to take a Skyline through the twisties?
