A word from the Editor Hello and welcome to Issue #11 ! Summer is here and were excited to bring you another issue. If this is your first time checking out Vegas Automotive Magazine be sure to check out our website www.vegasautomag.com. There you can see videos, more photos and much more. Please consider subscribing to our email list to stay up to date on all the content we put out. This issue we attended RADwood which is an awesome 80's/90's themed car show that came to Las Vegas for their first time. The show was held at the convention center so there was plenty of room for cars and spectators. We also made it out to LS Fest West for our second year in a row now. This year was intense! We were there for two vehicle fires and a ton of carnage. Overall it was a great time though! To have an event based around a single engine platform is pretty awesome. For ride features this issue we have a few awesome cars to share. On the cover you can see Damian's 1977 Toyota Celica that he restored himself. The classic vibe to this using a few modern parts is pretty sweet. We also did another couple feature! This time they had matching cars! Well almost, they both drive 350z's but the modifications are completely different on each build. That was pretty awesome. Last but not least we got to check out a Thunderbird themed Charger R/T ScatPack. If you live in Las Vegas you have seen the Thunderbirds jets flying over Nellis Air Force Base at some point in time. How cool that someone themed their car off of them. As usual we appreciate your love and support! Don't forget to check out our awesome advertisers and show them some love. Please shop with them when you can and mention our magazine so they know you are finding them in here month after month. If you have suggestions, ride submissions, events you want us to attend or anything else please reach out to us directly anytime!

Catching Z's

this couple drives the same car but two completely different builds IMAGES Adrian Mirabal

WORDS Alexis Solorzano

Full Photo Album at www.Vegasautomag.com

Normally when we think of catching Z’s we think of long naps and restful nights, but you better not sleep on this couple’s pair of Nissan 350Z’s.

Brittney and Kevin Kolteryahn are the proud owners of two awesome rides. Kevin is a UNLV Student, Accountant and aspiring Financial Analyst and Brittney, a UNR graduate with a degree in accounting works as an Auditor. Brittney owns a 2005 Nissan 350Z and Kevin owns a 2004 Nissan 350Z. The couple’s story starts way back in grade school where they first met. Growing up life happened but they continued to have a friendship through Facebook. Brittany attended college at UNR and then Kevin went on a mission for their church for two years. When Kevin returned from his mission, he and Brittany got married in December of 2015. Brittany has always liked cars. She grew up going to the track and watching her dad race. Kevin didn’t have the same passion that Brittany always had for cars, but he appreciated them and the automotive scene. This all changed after he got his 350Z, the couple then both having a strong love and passion for the car became immersed in the automotive community. They both dialed in their passion by learning and becoming more knowledgeable about vehicles in general, as well as the 350Z’s. About a year after buying his, they both decided that it would be so awesome for them to have matching his and hers cars. Brittany got hers and they were excited to have matching rides that they would modify making each of the cars unique to reflect their own personal styles. Brittany’s 350Z is an awesome dark purple color. She has owned her car for about a year and six months. She bought it off Facebook market place almost completely OEM. The whole build took about 8 months, she still does small things here and there but nothing major. The body of her car is customized with Stillen Carbon fiber hood, Vicrez Side splitters, APR GTC-200 Wing, Carbon fiber diffuser, Carbon fiber rear view mirror and pillar covers, TBW Aluminum Undertray, and Custom House of color 3 stage paint. Under the hood has just as much love put into it, the engine is complete with Injen CAI, Injen Hydro Cover, ½” Motordyne Plenum Spacer, Mishimoto Aluminum radiator, Mishimoto aluminum fan shroud, NWP 75mm Throttle body, Weapon R Aluminum Coolant Overflow, Mishimoto Transmission Cooler, Ported and Polished upper and lower plenum, and NRG Aluminum Radiator Cooling plate. Rounding out the car are more awesome modifications done to the exhaust and audio system. Through all these awesome mods I’m sure it’s hard to pick a favorite but Brittany said that her paint job is her favorite feature of the car. I mean who can blame her, the car has a completely unique paint job! Brittany has a few future plans for her ride including supercharging the Z, adding a front splitter, side and rear louvers, harness bar and Braum harness seat belts, carbon fiber/suede DnD Steering wheel and quick release. There is no question that Brittany’s Nissan 350Z is a vehicle that has a lot of love and uniqueness poured into it. We asked Brittany what

her favorite memory is with her car and she told us about a time both her and Kevin took their Z’s to run at Midnight Mayhem and she smoked him! Haha nothing wrong with some competition. Kevin’s Z in nothing short of unique as well. Completely opposite of Brittany’s, his is a bright orange color with a black carbon fiber hood. He bought his car in 2016. He bought it off the side of the road in Henderson, NV after his father- in- law pointed out that it was for sale. The car was mostly stock except for the carbon fiber hood and Nismo coilovers. After purchasing the car, he got to work making it one of a kind. It took about a year to finish. It stands out just by the paint job alone, but this ride has more than just that going for it! The body of Kevin’s 350Z comes complete with AMS Front bumper and Side Skirts, Veilside Style Wing, Carbon fiber hood, Carbon fiber wrap on hood/roof, Custom 3 stage paint, JDM White brake lights, and Rear bumper splash guards. Complementing the outside, his suspension modification is Nismo Lowering springs, and under the hood you will find Volant CAI, Weapon R Aluminum Coolant overflow for his engine mods. The car has a tastefully done under glow accent channeling the over the top need for speed/fast

and furious type build that he is going for. The under glow also happens to be Kevin’s favorite feature of the car, and I personally would have to agree that it does add that extra touch to capture that style of build. Kevin has some huge plans for this already outstanding ride, he plans on completely overhauling the car. He wants to redo the body kit and NSM 370z Nismo style body kit along with a stardust wide body kit. Other big changes he wants include changing the color with a wrap. Replacing the wing with an APR GTC-500 and upgrading to air suspension are all in the near future for this 350Z. We asked Kevin what his biggest setback has been was with the build so far and he told us that on the way to his first show he saw smoke spewing out of the two hood vents and he pulled over to find a crack running the entire length of the alternator. He was able to buy a replacement and get it on before the show. There is no question that this couples cars although the same are completely and totally unique to them as individuals too. It is always refreshing to see couples share a passion for something that brings them together and shows off what they are all about. We are excited to see how they bring to life these cars in the future and what is coming next!

Radwood Las Vegas

ADwood is a car show that is era specific; it is all about celebrating the automotive scene in the 80’s and 90’s. This show happens all around the country and even in Japan! So, when we got word that it was coming to Las Vegas we were stoked. Being products of the 90’s we were ready to take a trip back in time through the awesome cars that were popular then. The show also encourages that its attendees dress up in clothes that reflect the times to round out the whole vibe of the show. We woke up the Saturday of the show excited to see what they were going to bring to Vegas. If you know me, you know that I never pass up an opportunity to dress up in a cool costume or outfit. So naturally I was already excited to get into the theme and wear my 90’s style attire. We headed to the show ready to soak up in all the nostalgia. We arrived at the show and right away I felt like we entered through a time capsule. People were dressed up and 90’s tunes were blasting through the lot. As we walked in, we noticed right away the row of 80s and 90s Porches all lined up. Followed by our personal favorite GTR’s, including the R32 we featured in last months issue of the magazine. We started walking down the row of cars where we were met by Eclipse’s, Subaru’s, Acura’s, and Supra’s all from the 80’s and 90’s where the vibe was real! Most of them were not only era specific by the year they were made, they were also specific to the style of the cars during time periods. From the paint jobs to the style of wheels they it was all from back in the day and we couldn’t get enough! There weren’t just cars out there representing one of the

12

most iconic times of car culture, Chevy Blazers with wood panels on the body, Ford F150’s that looked like they just drove off a car lot in the 1980s, and so many more really unique time specific rides. Most of the vehicles also had themed props to add some razzle dazzle to the already iconic cars. Some had paper maps sitting on the front seats, gold chains, old cell phones, and so many other fun props. This gives you an idea of how creative people got with really capturing the essence of the time periods. Over all this show really was a fun show to attend. It evoked a sense of nostalgia and a vibe of car culture that came from a different time. This was awesome to be apart of and see all generations enjoying the show. Kids who were probably not even alive during this time period got to go back in time and adults that lived it got to take a trip down memory lane. I’m happy we were able to attend this show and can’t wait to see what next year has in store.

hen I got word that we were going to feature this car I was stoked! This 1977 Toyota Celica is in pristine condition. The way that it was put together staying true to the classic look while adding some modern aspects makes this ride one of a kind. This awesome car belongs to Damian, he was raised in Manila, Philippines. He moved to the states in 2006. If you see him around town he’s probably heading to Red Rock or his favorite café. His passion for all thing’s automotive stems from his father’s influence. His father took him to a junk yard when he was a kid giving him the love for wrenching on his own stuff. Damian really gravitated to the DIY aspect of building your own custom vehicle, and this really comes through in this car. Damian’s love for Japanese classic cars and motorcycles began when his old roommate was looking to purchase a 240Z. While he was helping his friend with his search, he came across a Toyota Celica and it was game over. Damian purchased his current Celica in 2010 off craigslist from Los Angeles. He says the car was in rough shape. It had a couple of holes, old trim, and exterior and interior color was not his cup of tea. Even though the car was rough around the edges Damian saw so much potential. This cars modification list is anything but short. Damian has touched pretty much every inch of the Celica and it certainly shows. The first thing that stands out about the car is the super pristine look of the body. The body has JDM TA27 Front and Rear “Smiley” Bumpers, TRD Front Airdam, TRD Front & Rear Fender Flares, SHADOW rear window louver, RA29 Rear Tail light Panel, Top Secret 3pc Rear duckbill spoiler, and Factory Toyota fender mirror Dapper Lighting Projector headlight housings. Damian’s 1977 Toyota isn’t just pretty on the outside it’s got some razzle dazzle on the inside too. The interior is completely redone in tan and black with upgraded accessories. The engine has a list of modifications a mile long. The wiring was completely redone getting rid of the fortyyear-old wiring harness and fuse block, replacing it with a 21-circuit fuse block, new wiring harness, and relays. The suspension also has its share of upgrades including shortened strut housings to be able to use MR2 Short stroke struts. Out of all the modifications, Damain’s favorite part is the carburetors. He likes the old tech with a good tune creating a sound that he can’t get enough of. All these customized components barely scratch the surface on how amazingly modified this Celica really is. Building a car this intricate doesn’t come without its fair share of mishaps. One of the biggest ones being finding the JDM front and rear bumpers. They were so hard to fine it took Damian almost a whole year to find a what he felt captured the look he was trying to achieve. Even though it seems that Damian has done every modification under the sun to this thing he’s still not finished! As of right now his for sure upcoming plans are boost and more suspension upgrades/ chassis stiffening. He hopes to have these things done by next winter, and then I’m sure he will be on to the next thing to make this build that much more unique. It is always nice to feature cars that so clearly have time and thought put into every detail of the build. It seems that the sky is the limit for Damian and his Celica, and it can only get better from here, if that’s even possible!

LS Fest West 2019 a weekend full of all things ls powered! WORDS AND IMAGES Adrian mirabal

W

e knew the heat was just around the corner and although being outdoors in the sun is not always the most fun, it is totally worth it to be out at LS Fest West for our second year in a row! If you haven’t heard of Holley Performance’s LS Fest events yet then what rock have you been living under…. (kidding) This entire event is made to celebrate one of the most known engines in the automotive world. The LS engine is known for being reliable, affordable and POWERFUL! Holley Performance is one of the largest suppliers of any and all things that you can pair up with your LS engine. We had such a blast last year that we had this event marked on our calendar months ahead of time! The weekend long event included LS powered vehicles of all types and different events for them all to compete in. There is a show n shine, drag racing, drifting, auto x, offroad, vendors, a dyno, burnout pit and much more! They literally take up over half of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway! When we first showed up we made our game plan and checked the schedule. LS Fest has printed and digital event schedules so you can easily see what events are happening at what time. It is easy to get overwhelmed with all the things going on at the same time but the schedule makes it easier to manage. Remember, you have 3 days of action so take your time and enjoy it. We started our day by checking out vendor row. It is important to show the vendors some love and check them out. Without sponsors and vendors a lot of these types of shows would not be possible.

Now onto the action; which there was no lack of! We checked out Mr. Chow’s Side Show which is a small pit style burnout area. There were tons of high horsepower vehicles taking their turn at shredding some tires in the pit. Tons of smoke, tons of blown out tires and tons of coolant leaking!! Also the occasional body panel flying off from a nice wall tap. We spent some time there checking it all out. From there we went to the off-road track. This is one of the best events to cover because we get to get right down in the middle of the action. While we are shooting on track we are literally in the center of trucks flying off jumps and drifting turns all on a complete dirt short course track custom built for LS Fest. Unfortunately we witnessed some carnage, Darren Parsons Ford Ranger race truck came off a jump and caught the side of the track berm and sent his truck rolling. Once the truck came to a complete stop it only took seconds for flames to shoot up. Fire is nothing to play around with in motorsports but the driver, co driver and track safety staff handled the situation awesome. Within seconds both the driver and co driver were out of the truck and immediately after there were crew members spraying the truck with fire extinguishers. Luckily they were able to put the blaze out before it completely took the truck. We saw the next day through social media that Darren was able to get the truck fired back up. (The LS engines are hard to kill!) It looks like the back half of the truck is being cut off and redone but it is nice to see that it was not a complete loss.

Next up was the drag racing. We went trackside to watch some good ole drag racing. This is usually the time to break out the ear plugs and enjoy the show. You never know what to expect. From classics to 2019 model year cars there is something for everyone’s taste. One of the best parts is just watching people lined up ready to fly down the track and wondering what is going to happen next. Of course the carnage continued when an S10 started to make his pass and something blew up under the hood shooting flames out of the top and bottom. Once again the safety crew came through and was at the truck within seconds to put the fire out. (Check out the photos) As much as I love talking (writing) about all the cool stuff, I highly recommend you just attend for yourself next year. There is too much to cover and too much to check out. Just know you will have an action packed weekend. If you have an LS powered vehicle no matter if its factory or swapped, you should consider entering and competing in the various events next year.

K

enneth “KG” Govens is proud owner of a 2017 Dodge Charger Scat Pack. Kenneth is United States Airforce Jet Engine Mechanic. He is originally from Wilmington, Delaware, but Las Vegas is where he calls home. He is married to Joy Govens, who he says is awesome because she fully supports his car obsession, sounds like a keeper to me! They have four kids together, two boys and two girls. If you don’t catch KG driving his car around to awesome places for cool pictures, you will likely find him spending quality time with his friends and family. KG has been enlisted in the military for more than 15 years now. The Air Force has taken him all over the world from Japan, to the UK. This probably has something to with the theme of his awesome ride. KG’s charger is not only modified with some dope parts, but the exterior’s design is what sets it apart. The charger’s theme is based on the Thunderbird Jets, which are the iconic highflying Airforce jets that travel through the air in tandem. KG has always been into cars since he was a kid. The first car he really fell in love with was the 1995 Toyota Celica GT. Naturally he ended up buying a 2002 Toyota Celica to pay tribute to his first love. When KG was stationed in Japan a new beauty caught his eye, it was a Dodge Magnum. He had to get one of his own. After owning the Magnum for a while, he got rid of it and swapped it out for his 2017 Dodge Charger that would become this awesome ride we see today. KG purchased the car from a Towbin Dodge Dealership. He has owned the Charger for about two years now. The Dodge Charger took around 11 months to capture the exact look that he was going for. The body of the charger has a ZL1 Addons Wicker Bill, the interior contains a Wind Restrictor Glow Plate, and he bumps his tunes through Two Alpine Type R 10” Subwoofers w/ SKAR RP-1500 Amplifier. The body also has Thunderbird graphics done in vinyl that, believe it or not, KG installed himself. Another modification on the car is the suspension, it has Air Lift Performance 3P Air Management System w/ Universal Air Suspension Bags, this is also his favorite mod on his Charger. He said, “There is no other feeling like being able to lay the car on the ground at the push of a button.” I think all us automotive enthusiast can understand this feeling. KG has spent $4,000 total on modifying his 2017 Dodge Charger. He is proud of the fact that he built a show quality car without breaking the bank. A future goal he hopes to achieve for the ride is a photoshoot inside the USAF Thunderbird hangar, which would be the ultimate back drop for this ride. Other than that, just having the car recognized and appreciated by others is always a goal for his car. KG’s upcoming plans for the car are wheels, building a trunk set up, and changing the overall theme of the car. We can’t wait to see what KG’s next unique theme will be!
