A WELCOME MESSAGE FROM CHAMBER PRESIDENT AND CEO

One of the most important roles the Vegas Chamber plays is representing your interests at all levels of government. Making sure the Voice of Business is heard and we have lawmakers who understand the challenges small businesses and employers face begins at the ballot box. That is why the Vegas Chamber takes so much time and care in endorsing candidates for office.

This issue of the magazine features the Chamber-endorsed candidates in the Primary Election. They include candidates for State Legislature, Nevada Board of Regents, and Clark County School Board. We will be making additional endorsements throughout the summer in other races, as well.

Candidate endorsements are decided by fellow Chamber members who serve on the Government Affairs Committee (GAC). The GAC is currently comprised of 29 members representing a vast array of small businesses and employers in a variety of industries including accounting, architecture, banking, construction, energy, finance, gaming, healthcare, insurance, legal services, non-profit, technology, and transportation. Nearly 40 percent of the GAC are small business members.

Save the date & contact Deborah Makiri at

Each candidate is interviewed by several members of the GAC and recommendations are made to the full Committee for a formal vote. The endorsements are based on each candidate’s voting record on the Chamber’s priority bills (if incumbents), stated positions on policies important to small businesses, understanding of issues impacting employers and the regional economy, as well as their willingness to work with the Vegas Chamber and the business community on a variety of issues.

The Primary Election matters a great deal so please make sure to vote. Early voting is from May 25 through June 7, and Primary Election Day is June 11. We urge you to cast your vote for our Chamber-endorsed candidates to ensure we have lawmakers who will work with the business community to protect our economy and job creation.

May is also Military Appreciation Month. To celebrate the service of our local military, the Chamber will host its annual MAC Night Out event on Tuesday, May 14.

This signature Chamber event honors the exceptional achievements of several servicemen and servicewomen of Southern Nevada, and we host several high-ranking leaders from Nellis Air Force Base, Creech Air Force Base, the Nevada Army National Guard, and United States Space Force.

MAC Night Out is our way of showing deep appreciation to the men and women who give so much in service and protection of our country. I encourage you to join us for this very special and patriotic event.

Thank you for your support of the Vegas Chamber. Please reach out to us if there is anything we can do to support you.

Sincerely,

G&S WINDOW CLEANING

ESTABLISHED 1993

I“We wash windows so you don’t have to.”

n 1993, amidst the glitz and glamour of Las Vegas, a young man shared a vision of sparkling, streak-free windows accompanied by excellent customer service. With a bucket, a squeegee, and a dream, he founded G & S Window Cleaning. Working solely and wearing every hat, word spread quickly about his meticulous work and friendly service, and soon his small venture grew into a thriving business. Over the years, the company became known for its reliability and attention to detail, serving homes, businesses, and commercial buildings all around our great city. As the city changed and grew, so did the company. Kevin embraced new technologies and techniques, always staying ahead of the curve and in 2005, hired his first employee. Today, with the help of his wife Brandie managing the daily office duties, the company employs eight and is a multigenerational family-owned business that has helped the company grow to the success it is today. The legacy lives on as the company continues to shine bright, just like the city that they call home.

VEGAS CHAMBER ENDORSES CANDIDATES

Since 1911, the Vegas Chamber has dedicated itself to protecting and growing Nevada’s business climate. The Chamber’s mission is to foster a culture of development where the innovation, preservation, and creation of jobs are the key objectives. Hundreds of thousands of Nevadans, employed by the thousands of small and large business Chamber members, depend on a business climate where employers and entrepreneurs can succeed.

As the largest and most broad-based business organization in Nevada, the Chamber has consistently been the leading advocate and the voice of business at the local, state, and federal levels of government.

Part of the Chamber’s advocacy work is to identify candidates running for state and local office who understand business issues and who will stand for employers and entrepreneurs. The Chamber works in a bipartisan way to endorse candidates that, when elected will work with the business community on sound, common-sense policies.

Candidate endorsements are decided by the Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee, comprised of 29 Chamber members who represent a vast array of businesses, including small businesses, from several different industries. Government Affairs Committee members take the time to thoroughly interview and question candidates on behalf of the business community on priority principles including less regulatory burden on businesses, more

efficiency in government, building a strong future workforce, education reform, taxation, and improving the business climate.

“In today’s changing political world it is more important than ever to elect candidates who want to work with the Vegas Chamber and take a fair, pragmatic approach for the good of all Nevadans. You, our members, and your employees play a pivotal role in Nevada’s economy. I ask you to help us make your voice heard by supporting the Vegas Chamber’s endorsed candidates this June. The single most important thing you can do is vote and be a part of Nevada’s political process,” says Hugh Anderson, Government Affairs Committee Chairman.

For that reason, the Vegas Chamber has compiled the 2024 Primary Election Guide that highlights candidates endorsed by the Vegas Chamber’s Government Affairs Committee.

Make sure your voice is heard by voting in Nevada’s primary election from May 25 – June 7 or on Election Day, which is Tuesday, June 11. We ask you to share this election guide information with fellow employers, colleagues, community leaders, family, and your employees. Leverage your circle and expand the business community’s influence by voting. United as a business community, we will be stronger and able to influence the policy decisions that will happen in the State Legislature and local government. Stand with the Vegas Chamber and take action. Vote this election and support pro-business candidates!

FAITH LUTHERAN

FAITH LUTHERAN MIDDLE SCHOOL & HIGH SCHOOL

Faith Lutheran opened its doors on September 4, 1979 with 44 sixth and seventh graders in rented facilities at First Southern Baptist Church in downtown Las Vegas. Today, Faith Lutheran serves more than 2,100 students in grades 6-12 on its state of the art 50-acre campus in Summerlin Blessed with students from all zip codes in the Valley, Faith has grown to be the largest private school in the Nevada and the largest Lutheran school in the country.

Faith Lutheran’s middle school operates under a House system with all 6-8 grade students randomly divided among 8 different houses (Greek/English):

Apto (Adaptable), Cara (Joy), Charis (Resilient), Ethos (Disciplined), Fortis (Strong), Meridio (Unselfish love), Nest (Relentless), and Vevaios (Confident). The purpose of each House is to find and foster the God given gifts in each student and to provide every student on campus a place where they are embraced by their fellow House members while building a deeper relationship with Jesus.  The Houses compete throughout the year to earn the

championship title of House of the Year.  Students earn points by being ambassadors of Christ and Faith Lutheran, tangibly living out the Crusader Mindset, Christian service, Crusader competitions, showing school spirit through their House chant/ cheer and celebrating the successes of all 8 Houses.

The middle school after school experience is second to none with a full range of clubs, athletics, and arts available to its more than 800 students. 42 teams represent 13 sports in the middle school; those sports include cross country, 6th grade flag football, 7th and 8th grade tackle football, swimming, volleyball, basketball, wrestling, baseball, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, and track. In addition to choir, orchestra, band, and dance, a play and a musical are performed by middle school students annually. Many clubs are also available; a sampling includes Cup Cake Wars, Bowling, Butterfly, Card, Cyber Patriot, Mock Trial, National Junior Honor Society, We the People, and Vex Robotics.

20 #4 2024 TAKING CARE OF BUSINESS MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

With more than 1300 students in the high school, Faith Lutheran is highly accomplished in academics. Students not only take courses in these specific areas of interest, but also complete internships and compete in state and national competitions.

Crusader high school athletes have won 62 state championships and 41 state runner ups and currently compete at the 5A level. Sports offered are football, cross country, volleyball, cheer, dance, golf, soccer, tennis, basketball, wrestling, girls flag football, hockey, softball, baseball, track, lacrosse, swimming, and track. Our fine arts students excel in choir, band, orchestra, handbells, 2D and 3D

art, rock band, guitar, tap dance, ballet, ballroom dancing, photography, graphic design, stagecraft, technical theater, show choir, jazz band, praise band, marching band, musical theater, and pep band. More than 50 clubs are available throughout the year including Color Guard, Lego, DECA, International Thespian Society, Model UN, Quiz Bowl, and Spanish Soap Opera.

As Faith Lutheran grows and students seek unique educational options, Faith Lutheran launched Faith Lutheran Online (FLO) so students are able to take

some or all of their classes in an asynchronous online format. With more than 50 courses already available through FLO, students in Las Vegas and around the world can graduate from Faith Lutheran without ever being on campus.

As applications continue to surge to record levels and to prepare students for life deeper into the 21st century, Faith Lutheran is preparing to build a 95,000 square foot STEM center where students will engage in STEM content; the US Department of Labor projects STEM occupations will grow faster in the coming years than any other sector. Over 60% of Faith Lutheran graduates with a career 4.0 GPA declare a STEM major in college.

True to its mission “Everyone Prepared!” Faith Lutheran is proud of its resource program for students with diagnosed learning difficulties as well its Mark 10:14 program for students with developmental disabilities. Finally, Faith Lutheran is an intentionally Christian school boldly proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus Christ. God has blessed Faith Lutheran in remarkable ways in its proud 45 year history, and every indicator shows that the coming decades will remain uniquely blessed.

NEVADA EMPLOYEE SAVINGS TRUST COMING SOON!

NJoe Caldera

AAMS, AIF, CFP, CRPS

Joe Caldera has been a financial advisor for 25 years. He specializes in wealth management and retirement plans. His success has been built on well-informed clients making better decisions and maintaining a disciplined strategy.

evada will soon become the latest state to implement a state retirement savings program for private-sector workers, joining the ranks of thirteen other states that have taken similar actions to address the retirement savings crisis in the United States.

The Nevada Employee Savings Trust, effective July 2025, requires most employers to provide a retirement savings plan for their employees or enroll them in a state-sponsored plan according to the Nevada Senate Bill 305:

• Employers with an existing retirement program are exempt.

• Employers with less than five employees are exempt.

• Employers in business for less than 36 months are exempt.

• Employees are automatically enrolled by default at 120 days of employment.

• Employees may elect to opt-out.

Details surrounding the penalties have not yet been outlined but are expected before first quarter of 2025.

Employers will likely register with the state and set up automatic payroll deductions for their employees. If the employee does not act, they will

automatically be enrolled in a payroll-deduction individual retirement account with after-tax earnings and default into a diversified investment. Employees can stop or increase contributions or take a distribution to meet financial emergencies. Employers may consider the Vegas Chamber 401(k) Retirement Program, designed for businesses seeking a robust, efficient, and affordable retirement plan for themselves and their employees. CHANGES ON THE HORIZON FOR SNWA’S CASH-FOR-GRASS REBATE PROGRAM

If your business, HOA or multifamily property still has thirsty, nonfunctional grass sucking up water and money, there’s no better time than now to upgrade it to drought-friendly landscaping.

The Southern Nevada Water Authority (SNWA) recently approved changes to the Water Smart Landscapes rebate program that will decrease cash incentives for non-functional grass conversion projects on non-singlefamily properties. Starting Jan. 1, 2025, the rebate for such projects will be reduced to $2 per square foot for the first 10,000 square feet of nonfunctional grass converted to dripirrigated trees and plants, and $1 per square foot thereafter.

Businesses, HOAs and multifamily properties can still take advantage of the current rebate of $3 per square foot for the first 10,000 square feet of converted turf and $1.50 per square foot thereafter for projects completed by the end of 2024, so those property owners are encouraged to act before the rebate changes take effect.

These changes come as a statemandated deadline to remove nonfunctional grass in the driest city in the nation draws nearer. The Nevada

Legislature in 2021 passed a law that prohibits the use of Colorado River water to irrigate non-functional, decorative turf -- the decorative grass found along roadways and medians, in front of and around businesses and some of the grass managed by homeowner associations starting Jan. 1, 2027.

Businesses, HOAs and other non-singlefamily properties across the valley have already taken a major step toward compliance with the law by converting more than 10 million square feet of turf to drought-friendly landscaping in just the last two years alone.

There’s still plenty of grass that needs upgrading before the law goes into effect, and increased demand for the program may drive up costs for plant materials and landscape installation services as the deadline to comply with the law nears.

To maintain aesthetics and plant diversity, the converted landscaping must include at least 50 percent living plant cover at maturity to qualify for the rebate. Reaching that benchmark is even easier these days thanks to an additional SNWA rebate aimed at bolstering the valley’s climate-stressed tree canopy.

For Southern Nevada, grass irrigation remains the largest consumptive use of water from the Colorado River, which provides 90 percent of our water supplies. Despite last year’s great winter, the river remains in a federally declared shortage condition that reduces Nevada’s maximum allocation for the third consecutive year.

As part of the SNWA’s Water Smart Landscape Rebate program, property owners can receive $100 for every new qualifying tree planted during a grass conversion project. The SNWA approved $10 million in funding for the tree rebate program to support the planting of up to 100,000 new trees across the valley.

Once fully implemented, the conservation law will help Southern Nevada save 9.5 billion gallons of water annually.

NEW “CITIES” TAKING SHAPE AT JUNIOR ACHIEVEMENT OF SOUTHERN NEVADA INSPIRATION CENTER

JA BizTown and JA Finance Park help students learn about “business of life”

Two “cities” are being developed to bridge the gap between what students learn in school and application to the real world. The result prepares youth for the “business of life.”

JA BizTown and JA Finance Park are Junior Achievement capstone programs and designed as cities with businesses, stores, utilities, and municipalities to teach youth to find their place in the job market and manage their finances, respectively. They are key parts of the new Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada Inspiration Center, a multimillion-dollar renovation of the former 24 Hour Fitness on East Tropicana Ave. opening May 2024.

An Engelstad Foundation investment launched the project forward by allowing Junior Achievement to purchase the vacant 40,000-square-foot building that is becoming the Inspiration Center. The renovation began last year with JASN’s existing online and in-school K-12 curriculum continuing uninterrupted. The first students will participate in onsite summer programming this June. At capacity, it will impact more than 60,000 students with 84 percent of fifth graders attending JA BizTown and 84 percent of ninth graders attending JA Finance Park.

The Inspiration Center will become the permanent, stateof the-art home to the nonprofit’s financial literacy, career exploration and entrepreneurship efforts and will allow it to triple its impact on local students. Junior Achievement provides this curriculum because schools don’t have the capacity for it, and many youth don’t learn these lessons at home.

“With BizTown, we are inspiring fifth graders to think beyond the world they might be aware of, and Finance Park’s experiential curriculum has the potential to change generational wealth,” said Michelle Jackson, JASN president and CEO.

At JA BizTown, students participate in a vibrant economy, run businesses, receive paychecks, make bank transactions and go shopping. Current companies in this “city” include: PNC Bank, Lexicon, FIVE GUYS, Google, Nevada Gold Mines, Caesars Entertainment, Nevada Contractors Association, City of Las Vegas, RSM Audit & Tax Consulting, UNLV, ImagineCo, and Sunrise Children’s Hospital.

JA Finance Park helps students build a foundation to make financial decisions based on income, expenses, savings, and credit through in-class learning. During the hands-on budget simulation, students receive an adult persona including age, family, marital status, job, income, credit score, and education level, and then balance a budget with over 26 categories to run a household. Current participating companies include: Nevada State Bank, The Venetian and Palazzo, United Healthcare, National Automobile Dealers Association (NADA), UNLV, Hirschi Companies, Republic Services, and NV Energy.

The Inspiration Center also will house an Entrepreneur Incubator Hub, Career Center, multipurpose area and conference room, and Junior Achievement’s administrative offices. Located at 4440 E. Tropicana Ave., it is expected to breathe new economic life in the area. The building has been vacant since March 2020.

Junior Achievement of Southern Nevada embarked on a capital campaign to raise $20 million for the Inspiration Center. More than $16 million has been raised, and there are still naming options and other donation and participation opportunities. To get involved, including volunteering, visit https://jasnv.org/, email michelle.jackson@ ja.org or call 702-214-0500.

PRESIDENT

JEWISH

NEVADA

Q: What services does your organization provide?

A: Jewish Nevada cares for more than 76,000 Jews living in Nevada by creating and sustaining vibrant Jewish life and taking care of those in need. We have many programs that help feed the hungry, provide services and support to Holocaust survivors, and offer scholarships for school, summer camps, and more.

Q: What is the biggest challenge you face?

A: Fundraising and engagement are the biggest challenges. We know there are over 76,000 Jews in our state but don’t know where they all are! We put a lot of effort into engaging with our Jewish community statewide, and Jewish Nevada’s resources and fundraising dollars impact many organizations locally, so meeting goals for both fundraising and engagement are incredibly important to us.

Q: What is your most significant accomplishment over the last year?

A: We closed our annual campaign at a 13% increase over the previous year. This was no small feat in a year that was particularly challenging given the events of October 7th in Israel and the rise of antisemitism locally and nationwide.

Q: What do you feel most proud about in your role?

A: I feel incredibly proud, and grateful, to do this work. I am literally working to save lives, and it feels even more important now in our Jewish community, than ever before. I do this so that my young children have a vibrant and safe Jewish community to grow up in.

Q: Why did you join the EWC (Executive Women’s Council)?

A: I joined the Executive Women’s Council because I want the opportunity to meet, connect with and learn from other strong women leaders throughout our community.

Q: How can people reach you?

A: People can reach me by email or phone at stuzman@jewishnevada.org or 702-366-6591.

PALM MORTUARIES & CEMETERIES MANAGER

SHADOW MONTALTO

RECOGNIZED WITH COMMUNITY

KINDNESS AWARD

Shadow Montalto, a manager for Palm Mortuaries and Cemeteries, was recognized with the Community Kindness Award recently at this year’s annual Extraordinary Breakfast for Candlelighters of Southern Nevada.

Candlelighters Childhood Cancer Foundation of Nevada supports families dealing with this disease’s navigation. It provides emotional support, quality of life programs, and financial assistance for children and their families affected by childhood cancer. The annual Extraordinary Breakfast connects business and community leaders, allowing them to network with like-minded professionals as they dive deeper into the impact that Candlelighters has on the community.

“I want to leave everyone with this question – what more can we do to help? What else can we do to ensure that every child receives the care they need, the funding they need, the support and resources that they need, so that they and their families can focus on fighting this battle?,” said Montalto as he accepted the recent award.

Montalto has supported this organization personally and has pioneered Palm’s partnership with Candlelighters over the last 10 years. He was connected

with this foundation through a family friend, who helped him forge the initial partnership. “Shadow is a kind-hearted and genuine individual, and he demonstrates what our profession feels and the passion that we have in serving our community,” said Palm Mortuaries and Cemeteries President Celena DiLullo. “The dedication he has shown to the children of Candlelighters is more than commendable. We are proud of his work and honored by this recognition.”

About Palm Mortuaries and Cemeteries

Palm Mortuaries and Cemeteries has been serving the Southern Nevada community since 1926. It started with one funeral home and now has 10 funeral homes and six cemeteries. Historic Palm Downtown has the very first mausoleum in Southern Nevada, and Palm also has the only Jewish funeral home and cemetery combination location in Nevada. Palm protects the community through prearrangements made by many families ahead of time to ensure their loved ones know their wishes are carried out, and it serves families during the most difficult time of suffering a loss. Cloudtango acknowledged that while Artificial Intelligence (AI) has become a powerful tool for progress, it will clearly disrupt how IT is managed within organizations. AI brings new cybersecurity risks, but despite these challenges, it offers immense potential to increase efficiency and productivity. In this new environment, managed service providers will play a vital role in creating a more productive and secure business environment.

“Technology always changes, and we are proud at NetEffect to navigate the IT world for our clients,” said NetEffect CEO David Rounds. “Being named in the MSP Select is a great honor we worked hard for.”
