VELALENA MOUA

Bulletin Editor

Greetings Everyone!

My name is Velalena Moua and I am your current bulletin editor. I am glad to be serving as part of the new board and hope that I can provide a helping hand to you all. As the school year ends, we pay farewells to our seniors at graduation, yet this doesn’t mean goodbye for us or them. Furthermore, finals had also been stressful, but despite those challenges I hope you all can have a wonderful summer and continue your motivation to serve our community.

As the new bulletin editor, my key club journey had started with three of my friends: David Nguyen, Sammy Quan, and Erika Zheng. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. They inspired me to become more involved with the club and showed me that key club was more than serving the community. It taught me to build leadership skills and allowed me to break barriers with people. Key club to me is about expanding my key club ohana and building friendships with people who have the same mindset as me. Because of my experience I hope that key club has inspired you the same it has for me.

Love,

Velalena Moua 5

Hey MonSTARS! In the previous term, I served you as your secretary. Though I was really excited about my term, it was you guys that kept me going, encouraging me all throughout the way. YOU are the inspiration to ME and thus, here I am as your next president. I can proudly say that my name is Elaine Phan, serving as your president for the 201819 term. I would like to thank you guys for pushing me all the way here and hope that you continue to support me in my Key Club journey as I will yours. Let’s laugh and cry together. Though not set in stone, a few of my statistical goals include: 300+ per charity (1500+ funds for service), 3,000 service hours, and a minimum of 25 members earning 50 hours of service. I would also like to increase the amount of active underclassmen we have and become closer to them within the next term. With a closer bond with the club, we can go further and create closer bonds with the Kiwanis and division! I hope that you all with work alongside with the board and I in coming close/ completing these goals because as a club, I believe we can do anything that we set our minds to. Don’t forget that YOU as a member can make a difference, and a large impact at that! As president, I hope that you don’t look towards me in intimidation, but rather a friend and a resource to come to for help. I am just as (and probably more) dysfunctional, clumsy, and directionally challenged as some of you out there! However, I hope that together we can overcome these challenges and tribulations. This term will be a learning experience for all of us, I can’t wait to learn about all of you as all of you learn about me.

With roaring love and service,

Elaine Pham

THE ELIMINATE PROJECT The Eliminate Project is designed to help raise funds, to provide life-changing vaccines for mother and child around the world. This is beneficial to those who does not have proper healthcare, so in order for this to happen, Key Club International had teamed up with UNICEF to make this change. Hey Monsters! My name is Sammy Quan and I am your secretary for the 2018-2019 term. As secretary, I have the responsibility of recording member’s service hours and keeping track of all members that had signed up for Key Club, whether or not they are a paid member. One person that had inspired me to become secretary would be our President Elaine Phan because, during her term as secretary, I saw her tackle many different type of tasks. Although she had many other extracurricular activities along with hard classes, she still managed to complete her tasks smoothly. The other person that inspired me was Sean Nguyen, because he helped me develop the right work ethics for key club and allowed me to express myself more throughout the year. My goals for this year is to constantly update member’s service hours so they’ll always know what they have. Additionally I want the club to reach at least 3,000 service hours or more by the end of next year. I also want more members to join key club and make them feel at home.

Hey everyone! My name is Venh and I am the immediate past president of Sheldon Key Club. I hope all of you are studying hard for finals and attending lots of service events! I know I will be attending lots of service events now that I have more time as a member of the club. I can't wait to reexperience what it feels like to be a member not having to worry about officer responsibilities. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed being an officer for Key Club for the past three years, but it will be refreshing to be able to do something new. To be honest, I really miss being part of the board. It gave me things to do and people to connect with. If you guys ever get the chance, I definitely recommend stepping out of your comfort zones and apply for a leadership position in Key Club. It will definitely be rewarding! Anyways, I hope to see all your beautiful faces at the next service event I attend. Good luck on finals!!

My experience at DCON was an amazing experience, I would want to relive over and over again. Despite the long walks and the tired eyes I had throughout the days, I was awake and ready to learn new things about the club I fell in love with in freshman year. As a Sophomore going to my first DCON, I was at first scared that I wouldn't fit in and would not make new friends, being scared to talk to others. As the days went on and workshops became a routine, I emerged out of my bubble and began socializing. I bonded with my club so much more and made friends within the division and outside of it. The most simple but amazing memory I have is when after Gov. Ball we were all downstairs waiting for the elevators. We probably spent 30 minutes down there, past our curfew and dead from the amount of dancing we did, yet we all were joking and laughing. Our club let everyone go before us in the elevators, and we all laughed when people came down the elevators, reach us, and scream. We all took pictures and videos together so much more than we had before. At DCON I learned that Key Club truly is a place where inclusiveness is common and kindness is its strongest quality.

My name is Antoine Huynh and I am part of Sheldon High School Key Club. My experience in it has changed me. Even though I am not part of Key Club such as going to any of the meetings, not showing Key Club spirit, or donating, I would go to community service events where there were less people because I’m shy around them. There was this one particular event where I went really early and was the first high school student volunteer to be there. I felt better because no one was around and when other students did come, I still felt fine because there was only a couple. To be honest, I do still like to go to events where there isn’t a lot of people, but I think every time I do go to an event with lots of people volunteering, it's more fun. I want to open up to people and talk to them and recently, going to events such as Running for Rhett has made me interact with others instead of just standing there. Key Club had helped with the progression of breaking my shell. I hope that from now on, every event I go to will help me interact with my fellow volunteers and those who go to the events to support the cause.
