Visitor spending is on the rise in multiple categories including food and beverage, local transportation, shows and entertainment, shopping, and sightseeing, according to the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority’s (LVCVA’s) 2016 Visitor Profile Study.

“This year’s study contains great insights into today’s visitor, including that visitor spending is on the rise and there is a change in the visitor demographic. We’re attracting more first-time visitors to the destination, and those visitors are younger and more diverse than in years past. We also saw growth in the number of non-gaming visitors. However, the visitors who did participate in gaming budgeted to spend more on gaming than in previous years.”

Visitor spending is up, on average, across all key areas.

Average per trip spending on food & beverage increased from $292.42 in 2015 to $319.93 in 2016, an increase of 9.4 percent. Also, showing significant increases over previous years was average per trip spending on sightseeing at $35.93, up from $14.86 in 2015, and shopping at $156.91, up from $122.66 in 2015.

Additionally, in 2016, Las Vegas enjoyed record-breaking visitation for a third year in a row with 42.9 million visitors, and local tourism had an estimated local economic impact

HEARTHSTONE KITCHEN & CELLAR at Red Rock Casino is superb. The woody walls, giant open pizza ovens, and outdoor seating on an infinity pool, all add to the wonderful, cool vibe that this restaurant possesses.

With plenty of TV’s, and live music in the evening, and a totally open air view, I would happily come back. I went for my birthday and couldn’t have been treated more elegantly. We let the manager, Travis Manus, and the Chef, Adam Arencibia, suggest all the dishes. Travis has been at Hearthstone for 8 months, coming from another fabulous restaurant, Yellowtail. He started us with lollipop chicken wings and steak tartar with truffle toast topped with a poached egg. The apple and quinoa salad, with chickpeas, gouda, and roasted pumpkin seeds was fresh and extremely nice. With a lovely wine and a flatbread, we moved on to a side of asparagus, perfectly grilled with a hazelnut and lemon vinaigrette sauce. A nightly changing order of raviolis, with bits of crab on top became another shared dish.

The Hanger Steak, with fries and truffle aioli sauce, was perfectly cooked. Was there room for dessert? Of course, after we heard that the most ordered one was peanut butter lava cake with butterscotch, banana, and brown butter ice cream. To know what tones of shades, blushes, and other makeup colors are right for you, you have to know if you are warm or cold. Do not think I’m referring to your personality; no, what I want to explain is that, in makeup, it is necessary to know which tonalities predominate in you, in order to know the colors that fit you much better.

What are the warm base colors and what are the cold base colors?

The warm colors are those based on the yellow and red tones and the cold colors are those based on the brown, green, blue, and purple tones.

Based on the above, if your skin tone is yellowish or reddish, then you are warm skinned; on the contrary, if the tone of your skin is brown or blackish, then you are cold skinned. As for the eyes and hair, if your eyes are dun dark (blacks), green, or brown, you have cold-toned eyes. If your hair is black, brown, dark brown, and its derivatives, then you are cold-toned hair.

If your hair is blonde, light brown, red, and its derivatives, then you are warm-toned.

Once you have differentiated the warm from the cold, you must determine which of the tonalities predominates you. For example, if your eyes are dark brown, your hair is brown, and your skin is yellowish, then the tone that prevails in you is cold. If your eyes are green, your hair is blond, and your skin is yellowish, then the tone that predominates you is warm. If your eyes are brown, your hair is black, and your skin is brown, then you are totally cold. Si tu cabello es de color rubio, castaño claro, rojo, y sus derivados; entonces eres de tono de cabello cálido.

Una vez que has diferenciado lo cálido de lo frío; debes determinar cuáles de las tonalidades prevalecen en ti. Ejemplo: Si tus ojos son pardos oscuros, tu cabello es marrón y tu piel es amarillenta; entonces el tono que predomina en ti, es el frío. If you live in a busy city like Los Angeles, New York, Miami or Las Vegas, your commute is probably a headache! So, going home to change after a long day at the office is totally out of the question. Sometimes, just getting from work to home can take me an hour, and once I get home the thought of having to fight traffic again, just to meet my friends, is not very enticing.

In a perfect world, I would love to wake up as the sun beams into my bright and fresh bedrooms ready to start the day. After a healthy breakfast smoothie, head over to yoga for a nice relaxing and regrouping class, then meet the girls for lunch to talk about the latest trends, gossip, and travel spots that are a MUST. Perhaps do a little shopping and then go home to get ready for a glamorous night out on town!

Yeah right... maybe one day, but as of now I need to be a bit more realistic, and practical with my day to day routine. Like most single women, I work from 9 to 5, I am involved in a few projects, I have a blog, and no help at home! SOOOO, sometimes it can be bit difficult to manage my social life, work, love life, and give myself a little TLC. Since we all can’t live like the fashionable lifestyle influencers we follow on social media, I have a few tips and tricks to turn your 9 to 5 wardrobe into a girls’ night out outfit without having to stop home first or have to bring a suitcase to work. So no need to pack a bag, just bring a couple of statement pieces to go from professional to fabulous.

Let’s start with the basics!

If you know you are going out, make it easier by wearing some basic pieces that will be simple to transform into happy hour style.

Leave home wearing a flirty, pretty dress or those pants that fit you really well, or maybe even a pencil or leather skirt! There is something about a leather skirt that always makes me feels edgy and chic in a not-trying-too-hard kind of way.

You can wear a chambray top or slim turtleneck for the day, and to give it that “night look,” just pair it with a moto jacket or maybe try a sexy sleeveless shirt, but cover it up with a blazer or a cardigan, grab the pumps or flats, and go to work. At 5pm, bring your Cinderella out and get ready for a fun night!

Si vives en una ciudad como Los Ángeles, Nueva York, Miami o Las Vegas, manejar con tráfico de la casa al trabajo es probablemente un dolor de cabeza. Así que ir de regreso a casa para cambiarte de ropa después de un largo día en la oficina, no es la opción preferida. A veces, simplemente manejar del trabajo a casa me puede tomar hasta una hora, y una vez que llego a casa la idea de tener que “luchar” contra el tráfico de nuevo, sólo para encontrarme con mis amigas, no es muy tentadora.

En un mundo perfecto me encantaría despertar con los rayos del sol entrando en mi habitación luminosa y fresca, levantarme lista para comenzar el día después, tomarme un desayuno sano, o quizá prepararme un batido y salir a mi clase de yoga, luego encontrarme a mis amigas para disfrutar de un rico almuerzo, hablar de las últimas tendencias de moda, chismes y lugares lindos para irse de viaje, etc.

Por la tarde, tal vez hacer un poco de compras y luego ir a casa, cambiarme y alistarme ¡para una noche de glamour en la ciudad!

Sí, ¡como no! ... tal vez algún día, pero por el momento tengo que ser un poco más realista, y práctica, con mi rutina diaria. Al igual que la mayoría de las mujeres solteras, trabajo de 9 de la mañana a 5 de la tarde, estoy metida en algunos proyectos, tengo un blog y zero ayuda en casa, entre otras cosas.

Por lo tanto a veces puede ser un poco difícil para mi el poder combinar mi vida social, el trabajo, mi vida amorosa, y tener un poco de tiempo personal.

Dado que no todos podemos vivir como los influyentes, ricos y famosos que seguimos en las redes sociales, tengo algunos consejos y trucos para transformar lo que normalmente te pondrías para ir al trabajo en un atuendo de noche, sin tener que volver a casa o tener que llevar una maleta con cinco combinaciones al trabajo.

Así que no hay necesidad de empacar el maletín, sólo es necesario llevar un par de piezas claves que te facilitarán el cambio de profesional a fabulosa en minutos. ¡Empecemos con lo básico!

I am always looking for an easy item I can add to transform from day to night, and this is one of my fav ladies! Just like that, you can change your outfit drastically and be ready for a night on the town.

TIP #2: THE SHOES… Bold heels will make a difference! One way you can amp up any basic outfit is with the right shoes, so let’s switch those loafers for a pair of fashion forward heels. It’s just that easy!

TIP #3: LET’S DON’T FORGET ABOUT THE ACCESSORIES… First the purse. Throw that bulky one in the trunk and grab the little one for a more chic look. We honestly only need a lipstick, credit card, and an ID. ANOTHER STATEMENT PIECE? Earrings! You can’t forget about the BLING! You can never go wrong with a statement piece like structural earrings.

This is the perfect add on to make your outfit pop for your evening soirée. It takes minimal effort to make you look “oh so chic!” But, make sure you bring a couple of options, your mood might change during the day and you don’t want to be stuck with one choice.

TIP #4: LAST BUT NOT LEAST… Hair and make-up! Nothing too elaborate is needed, just a few extra curls or maybe a messy bun will do the trick! And, for the make-up, a little extra highlight here and there, a bold lipstick shade, some eye liner, perfume, and you are ready to hit the town.

CONSEJO # 2: LOS ZAPATOS ... ¡Los tacones harán una diferencia! ¡Cuanto más altos y novedoso, mejor! Una manera sencilla de cambiar cualquier traje básico es con los zapatos adecuados, así que vamos a cambiar los zapatos cómodos de trabajo por un par de tacones de moda. ¡Es así de fácil!

CONSEJO # 3: NO OLVIDES DE LOS ACCESORIOS... ¡Primero el bolso! Pon el bolso grande en el maletero del auto y cámbialo por uno pequeño y moderno para un “look” más chic. En realidad solo necesitamos llevar con nosotras un lápiz labial, tarjeta de crédito, y una identificación. Lo demás déjalo en el bolso grande. ¿OTRA PIEZA IMPRESCINDIBLE? ¡Aretes! ¡No puedes olvidarte del BLING! Nunca vas a lucir mal con una pieza única como pendientes o aretes estructurales. Este es un accesorio complementario perfecto para hacer que tu vestuario sea mas notorio, mas exclusivo. Recuerda que los accesorios le dan a tu vestimenta el toque final. ¡Casi con un mínimo esfuerzo lograrás verte linda y audaz! Pero asegúrate de llevar un par de opciones, en caso cambies de idea durante el día y así tendrás más alternativas.

CONSEJO # 4: POR ÚLTIMO, PERO NO MENOS IMPORTANTE... el cabello y el maquillaje. ¡Nada demasiado elaborado es necesario, apenas un poco de volumen, rizos o quizá un moño suelto harán el truco! Y para el maquillaje solo necesitaras más brillo aquí y allá, lápiz labial de colores fuertes, un delineador de ojos, perfume y estarás lista para salir a la ciudad.

When you are independent and you work for yourself there will always be someone who asks you: hey and how do you pay your bills? how do you live? Is it hard?

Most will look at you with terror and few will congratulate you, some would like to do so, but because of multiple commitments they can’t, just as always respect to the one who decides to work for someone because not all were born to be independent.

Cuando eres independiente y trabajas para ti siempre habrá alguien que te pregunte ¿Oye y cómo haces para pagar tus cuentas?, ¿Cómo vives?, ¿Es difícil?

La mayoría te mira con cara de terror y pocos te felicitan, algunos quisieran hacerlo pero por múltiples compromisos no pueden, igual siempre respeto al que decide trabajar para alguien porque no todos nacieron para ser independientes.

Of course, I work and even more than the one with a fixed schedule, the detail is that I program, organize and use the agenda to take control of what I have to do every day, sometimes I wonder why people look in a strange way at those who don’t work for anyone or have made the decision to undertake, the truth I don’t know, I only know that the peace and tranquility of living to be your own boss is not paid by the best salary in the world.

Pues claro que trabajo y hasta más que aquel que tiene un horario fijo, el detalle es que me programo, me organizo y utilizo la agenda para llevar un control de lo que tengo que hacer cada día, a veces me pregunto porque las personas miran de manera extraña a los que no trabajan para nadie o han tomado la decisión de emprender, la verdad no lo sé, solo sé que la paz y tranquilidad que uno vive al ser su propio jefe no lo paga ni el mejor salario del mundo.

Aquellos que logran alcanzar, ser independientes es muy difícil que vuelvan a tomar un trabajo “normal”, y digo normal a tener un horario fijo con jefe, y si se hace es porque quizás la necesidad apremie; cuando me toca asesorar a aquellos que fueron en su momento independientes y tienen por fuerza que volver a trabajar en alguna empresa o institución lo mejor es que lo hagan a manera de asesoría y que pongan sus condiciones.

Por lo menos en mi caso hay días en donde estoy haciendo mil cosas a la vez, lavando, limpiando, atendiendo la computadora, haciendo llamadas desde mi celular, actualizando las redes sociales de mi empresa y escribiendo y ordenando lo que toque en la semana y les aseguro que el tiempo si alcanza porque siempre me organizo.

Por lo menos hoy lunes que decidí escribir para el blog del viernes, estoy reservando medios para un cliente, escribiendo en la agenda lo que tengo pendiente para hoy y enviando mensajes de WhatsApp para que alguien recuerde ir a un evento que tengo la otra semana, pero sin dejar de atender mi hogar, hoy tocaba lavar porque llovió el fin de semana y la cesta estaba

al tope, aprovecho ahora salir a hacer supermercado y en la tarde cocinar para mi esposo porque lo más importante es que lleve comida fresca de casa para que no agarre ningún virus estomacal por comer en la calle, y aunque me encargue de cada detalle del hogar no puedo restarle merito porque cuando está en casa definitivamente él apoya en todo sin molestarse.

Cuando conversamos le digo -no sé cómo haría si tuviera un trabajo con horario fijo, mi vida sería un caos, por eso doy gracias a Dios cada día por hace siete años haber tomado la difícil decisión de ser independiente.

El secreto de la independencia es ser organizado y responsable, todo lo manejo digital porque evito lo posible salir de casa (la oficina la manejo desde allí), sino tengo nada urgente que hacer en la ciudad (vivo en el Sector Oeste a unos 30 minutos del centro de Panamá) no me muevo, y si lo hago es por la cobertura de algún evento o recorrido de medios con clientes, pero por lo general todo lo manejo a través de mi oficina virtual mi celular, mis redes sociales y reuniones por Skype; soy de las que cree fielmente que algunas empresas deberían ofrecer a aquellos que su trabajo lo amerité trabajar desde casa, quizás se vea como que no producirá lo suficiente, pero les aseguro que uno trabaja mucho más y mejor.

Si tiene pensado independizarse y ser su propio jefe anímese arriésguese, analice todas las ventajas y desventajas, no es fácil pero no imposible, lo rico es que usted manejará su tiempo y si se organiza créame no se arrepentirá.

Traveling with kids can be challenging, but it can also be a great learning experience for both parents and children.

I have found that preparing for the trip ahead of time and taking some key points into consideration makes a huge difference. Of course, this is not the same for every age! To go on a trip with 10, 11, or 15-year old and to go with a 3-month old, a one and a half-year old, and a 5-year old is as opposite as day and night, but in both cases we can achieve a non-stressful experience.

Viajar con niños puede ser un desafío, pero también puede ser una gran experiencia de aprendizaje tanto para los padres como para los niños. Descubrí que prepararse para el viaje con anticipación y el tomar en cuenta algunos puntos claves, hacen una gran diferencia. Por supuesto que la cosa cambia dependiendo de la edad de los chicos… no es lo mismo viajar con chicos de 10, 11 o 15 años de edad o ir con un niño de 3 meses, otro de un año y medio y otro de 5 años pues las situaciones son tan opuestas como el día y la noche, pero en ambos casos podemos lograr una experiencia no estresante.

My girls are bigger now, but I remember going to Italy to visit grandma with three kids under the age of 5. The bathroom stops, the change of diapers, the long waiting periods between flights, the running from one gate to the next, etc., and that is just the beginning of the trip. Then we have to plan for the plane ride that can be a little exasperating. So, I put together a list of helpful things you might take into consideration before, during, and even after a family trip.

Mis hijas ya son grandes, pero recuerdo cuando fuimos a Italia a visitar a la abuela con tres niñas menores de 5 años.

Las interminables idas al baño, el cambio de pañales, los largos períodos de espera entre los vuelos, el correr de una puerta de salida a la siguiente, etc., y eso es sólo el comienzo del viaje. Por eso es importante planificarlo con tiempo. Aquí les tengo una lista de cosas útiles que pueden tomar en consideración, antes, durante e incluso después de un viaje familiar.

LET’S TALK ABOUT THE TRIP

Me parece importante hablar con los niños sobre lo que “viene”, a dónde vamos y qué esperar. Escucha sus aportaciones, crea expectativa y haz que se emocionen por la aventura que será viajar en familia. No sólo estarán contentos, sino que estarán más dispuestos a cooperar.

Explícales con detalle lo que tienes planeado, como comportarse en el aeropuerto, que llevar en la mano y el proceso de pasar por los puestos de seguridad, qué esperar y qué no. Es mejor escuchar sus preguntas y responderlas en casa, que cuando estés tratando de pasar el cochecito por el cinturón de seguridad, con un niño en brazos y tres bolsas en la mano. Si es posible, te sugiero que te registres en el sistema de TSA pues realmente hace el proceso más fácil.

I find it important to talk to the kids about what’s “coming,” where are we going, and what to expect. Listen to their input and make them excited for the adventure, they not only will be happy about it but they will be more willing to cooperate.

Let’s talk about security, what to expect, and what not to expect. It Is better to hear their questions and be able to answer them at home than when you are trying to fit the stroller on the belt in security. Also, remember to get TSA registered; it really makes it easier.

PASSPORT: if you are leaving the country make sure your passports are current. Children’s passports expire every five years and many countries require that passports have at least 6 months to the expiration date. Check if you will need a Visa and get it done well ahead of time. Last minute passports and visas can get expensive.

RESERVATIONS AND ACTIVITIES, when you make your reservations for the hotel, make sure to spend a little time with the concierge or look online for things to do. If necessary, make reservations ahead of time so when you get there you already have a tentative itinerary; and, I say tentative because I have learned that life is full of unexpected things and you might have to adjust but if not, then you have a plan and that, my friend, makes it a lot easier. Same with the airline. Let them know you are traveling with kids and you not only will need to pre-board but you will need to be sitting up front. The day before your trip check the reservation, make sure plane is on time, and there are no major changes. It is smart to sign up for alerts as well, in case there are last minute changes. Print your boarding passes twice, keep one copy with you and keep another

HABLEMOS SOBRE EL VIAJE;

PASAPORTES; Si vas a viajar fuera del país, asegúrate de que los pasaportes estén al día. Los pasaportes de los niños expiran cada cinco años y muchos lugares piden que los pasaportes tengan por lo menos 6 meses de vigencia a la fecha de vencimiento.

Averigua si necesitaras una Visa y encárgate de hacer el tramite lo antes posible. Pasaportes y visas a última hora pueden ser caros.

RESERVACIONES Y ACTIVIDADES; Cuando hagas tus reservas en el hotel, asegúrate de tener la oportunidad de hablar con el conserje y preguntarle por actividades o cosas que puedas hacer con la familia, en el caso de que el hotel no tenga ese departamento pídele información a la agencia de viajes o buscala en la internet y si es necesario hacer reservas con anticipación, ¡¡hazlas!!

De esa manera cuando llegues a tu destino ya tendrás un itinerario tentativo y digo tentativo, porque la vida está llena de imprevistos y puede ser que tengas que modificar tus planes pero en caso que todo salga como lo tienes planeado, tendrás un plan y eso será de gran ayuda. Igual hazlo con tus reservas aérea, es importante dejarles saber que estás viajando con niños así no sólo tendrás la opción de pre-abordar sino también tendrás la oportunidad de elegir los asientos en la parte de adelante del avión lo que hará mas fácil el desembarco. El día antes de tu viaje, verifica la reservación, asegúrate de que el avión esté a tiempo y que no hayan cambios importantes de último minuto. Te recomiendo que te registres en el sistema de alertas de la linea aérea, así en caso de que hayan cambios de última

hora te llegará un mensaje de texto. Imprime dos copias de tus pases de embarque, ten una copia contigo y guarde otra con una copia de los pasaportes en un sobre y ponla en tu equipaje de mano. Nunca está de mas tener copias de los documentos, ya que en caso se te pierda el original, no tendrás que buscar donde imprimirlos en el aeropuerto. Mas vale prevenir que lamentar.

PACKING SMART, I started to use the cubes, which are little bags with zippers where you can divide items or outfits or even categorize your things. That way you know where everything is without having to mess up your bag. I will add links at the bottom of the article for recommended products.

It is good to have one or two nice outfits, but in general pack comfortable shoes and clothing. It is also helpful to find out about the weather; no one needs to add a “shopping day” at the mall looking for jackets. Make a list of essentials like sunscreen, hats, and sandals for the beach or snow gear and extra pair of gloves if you are going to the cold. I used to let them try on the clothes before the trip so they became familiar with it and look forward to wearing it. On a side note, if your toddler is currently potty-training, don’t stress on the plane, bring extra pull ups and call it a day.

Bring extra pacifiers and their favorite blanket or stuffed animal.

You can rent a car seat when you rent the car, and the strollers are usually available in every park and attraction. Plus you will have your hands full going through security.

Carry-on: carry-ons are your best friend, pack them wisely.

Check online what is permitted and what is not, i.e. from breast milk to some sharp toys. We don’t want Jimmy throwing a fit at security because his favorite plane is taken away by the “mean” officer.

EMPACA INTELIGENTEMENTE; En unos de los viajes que realicé con mis hijas conseguí unos “cubos” o pequeñas bolsas con cierres que son una maravilla. Los uso siempre pues puedo dividir artículos o trajes o incluso clasificar las cosas y ponerlas dentro de la maleta sin que se mezclen, de esa manera se donde está cada cosa en caso que necesite encontrar algo, sin tener que desordenar todo.

Añadiré el sitio web donde conseguirlas en la parte inferior del artículo. Siempre recomiendo empacar uno o dos trajes mas bonitos o de vestir, en caso decidas ir a un restaurante no tan casual o hacer alguna visita importante pero en general lleva zapatos y ropa cómoda. También es útil que averigües el clima, nadie necesita tener que agregar un “día de compras” en busca de chaquetas. Haz una lista de lo esencial, yo sin lista no funciono, como por ejemplo protector solar, sombreros y sandalias para la playa o equipo de nieve, gorros y un par extra de guantes si vas a la nieve. Mas de una vez he terminado con un guante de cada par. Deja que los chicos se prueben la ropa antes del viaje así se familiarizan con lo que se van a poner especialmente si vas a alguna aventura que requiera ropa especial. Y si tu niño está aprendiendo a ir al baño solo, no te estreses en el avión, llévate extra pull-ups o pañales de entrenamiento y olvídate del asunto por unas horas, y por supuesto llevar chupetes o chupones adicionales y la manta o el peluche favorito de tu chicos, será de gran ayuda.

COCHECITOS Y ASIENTO DE COCHE DE BEBE; Esto es algo que dejaré a tu criterio, pero si no tienes planeando quedarte con la familia, no los lleves. Puedes alquilar un asiento de coche para bebe cuando alquiles el auto, y los cochecitos generalmente están disponibles en cada parque y atracción. Además, tendrás las manos menos llenas cuando pases por seguridad.

parent. Sophia went to the spot that we had chosen to meet in case anyone got lost and when I finally found her she asked me: “what took you so long?!” The little bugger still has a personality!

OTHER THINGS TO CONSIDER: My girls used to travel a lot alone, even when they were little, as we had family all over the world. At first, I used to write on their belly their name, phone number, and any kind of known allergy they have. Now, we can be a little more advanced and use a tracking device on their clothing or backpack, and for the older kids on their phone. For sure, this will give you a peace of mind in the event you lose sight of them for a moment.

Pack antibacterial wipes and hand sanitizer for when there are no washing facilities around, you will need them. I once when on a cruise and I got to the room before my girls and in 5 minutes that place was sanitized from door to window. You don’t need a sick kid to “ruin” your adventure, so prevention is key!

Bring a small first aid kit just in case, and of course prescriptions; anything they are using or you think they might need, but remember to order them ahead and keep them in a safe place along with easy to swallow medicine for common things like upset stomach, fever, head ache, etc.

Last but not least…If you are going to a party, wedding, or big celebration, ship your gifts!!

Take your time! I cannot stress this more! Little kids, especially toddlers are curious and they like to explore everything because everything is new to them. Rushing them will only make them frustrated, and you will see suffer the consequences. So, plan to leave the house at least three hours prior to departure. That way you will have enough time to park, get your stuff, go through security, and find your gate without having to lose your mind…or a wandering kid.

Please don’t try to do everything yourself, delegate if you can, or ask for help. You have nothing to prove and stressing will take the joy from the experience. Enjoy your kids, enjoy your time, and make wonderful memories!!

creará recuerdos alegres en familia. Dependiendo de la edad de tus chicos, cómprales diarios o cuadernos y motívalos a escribir y compartir sobre el viaje y sus experiencia, será un recuerdo que atesorarán en los próximos años.

UBÍCATE; Es importante enseñarle a nuestros hijos a siempre estar consciente de los alrededores. ¿Dónde estamos? ¿Dónde está la salida más cercana? ¿Dónde está el baño? Y por supuesto, ¿Dónde nos reunimos en caso de que nos perdamos? Esta ha sido mi mayor lección. Soy el tipo de mamá que siempre trato en lo posible de tener 100 ojos con mis hijas, pero aun así perdí a mi hija de 2 años por unos minutos en Disneyland, a la medianoche, ¡¡Mientras pasaban los fuegos artificiales!! Nunca lo olvidare, fué el 31 de diciembre de 2000. Todos aprendimos de esa experiencia y si hoy la recordamos como una historia divertida de contar, yo NO le deseo esos minutos de terror a ningún padre.

Felizmente habíamos planeado que hacer en caso que alguno de nosotros nos pediéramos en el parque. Sophia fue al lugar que habíamos elegido para reunirnos y cuando finalmente la encontré me preguntó: ¿Qué te tomó tanto tiempo? ¡La niña aun tiene una personalidad muy ocurrente!

OTRAS COSAS A CONSIDERAR; Bueno, espero haberte dado algunas ideas que te ayudaran a planear y disfrutar tus vacaciones. Mis chicas aprendieron a viajar solas desde muy chicas ya que tenemos familia en Italia, Peru y otras partes el mundo, esto las ha hecho independientes y ingeniosas, pero nunca esta de mas tomar algunas precauciones. Cuando eran más chiquitas no teníamos acceso a celulares o dispositivos rastreadores así que yo solía escribir en sus barrigas su nombre, número de teléfono y cualquier tipo de alergia que tuvieran, hoy en día estamos un poco más avanzado y podemos tomar ventaja de dispositivos de seguimiento o rastreo que se pueden colocar en la ropa de los chicos o en las mochilas o bolsas de viaje. Para los niños mayores te recomiendo bajes aplicaciones en su teléfonos celulares. Esto te dará cierta tranquilidad en el caso de que los pierdas de vista por algún momento. Otra cosa que siempre llevo conmigo son paquete de toallitas antibacteriales y desinfectante para las manos, para cuando no hay instalaciones de lavado o baños alrededor. Yo las he usado mucho, especialmente en los cruceros. ¡Prevenir es clave! Ten a la mano un pequeño bolsito con medicamentos y artículos de primeros auxilios por si acaso y no te olvides de los medicamentos prescritos; cualquier prescripción que estén utilizando tus chicos o que puedas necesitar así como medicamentos de venta libre que sean fáciles de tragar para malestares comunes como estomacales, fiebre, dolor de cabeza, etc., y por ultimo, si vas a una celebración, boda o evento familiar donde tengas que llevar algun regalo, ¡envíalo por correo!

Como te lo dije antes…¡Tomate tu tiempo! Los chicos, especialmente los niños pequeños son curiosos y les gusta explorar todo, porque todo es nuevo para ellos. Apresurándolos sólo los frustrarás y sufrirás las consecuencias, así que planea salir de la casa al menos tres horas antes de la salida, de esa manera tendrás tiempo suficiente para empacar cosas de ultimo minuto, llegar al aeropuerto, pasar por seguridad y encontrar tu puerta de embarque sin tener que volverte loca... o perder a un niño errante. Y por favor no trates de hacerlo todo sola, delega si puedes o pide ayuda. No tienes nada que demostrar. ¡Disfruta de tus hijos, disfrutar de tu tiempo y crea recuerdos maravillosos!

It was a weekend like any other. I had left to go dancing with a friend. We met at the Kennedy Oval in Miraflores. It was quite cold, because it was a Saturday in July, which is winter in Lima, Peru.

We greet each other and start walking towards the “Calle de las Pizzas,” a place of different bars and discos. We advanced to the back street, turned right, and walked a few steps forward. It was very crowded and that usually stresses me out, so I worked hard to find a nice place that is almost empty. So, we arrived at a bar with tables inside and outside, not many people, but apparently it was going to feature a rock band because instruments were set on the stage. We entered and were placed at an intermediate table, not too close to the stage. He ordered a beer and I asked for what I always get, a Pisco’s Chilcano. The conversation was going and coming when suddenly my gaze turned aside towards a person who was entering with a group of boys. He was tall, exaggeratedly thin, dressed in black, and he had a hairstyle with his hair standing. From far away, he seemed younger than me, so I returned my attention to the person who I was with at that moment. I do not usually take interest in younger people, maximum three years younger, as a result of a bad experience I had with someone younger, but that is another story. From time to time, my look drifted unintentionally.

There was something that attracted me to this strange being. My surprise was such, when I realized, that he was part of the group that was going to play that night at the bar. He sat on his drums and along with the others, started the show. They played very cute, I have to admit. For this moment, I could not take my eyes off from him. Rare for me because I tend to be very cautious. I do not like it to be noticeable if I have interest in someone.

The show ended and my friend and I left the place. I arrived home and in my mind was still spinning around the skeletal figure of that individual.

The following weekend I agreed, with another friend, to go back to that place, but this time as a group. I wanted to know if I could find him again. To my surprise, when we arrived, they were going to play again. This time, I located myself at a table next to the stage and I waited them for arrive. Finally, they began to play. It should be noted that I had never heard of this rock band in my life, it was

Era un fin de semana como cualquier otro. Había quedado en salir a bailar con un amigo. Nos encontramos en el óvalo Kennedy en Miraflores. Hacía bastante frío, pues era un sábado de Julio; fecha en la cual, en Lima – Perú, estamos en invierno.

Nos saludamos y comenzamos a caminar en dirección a la “Calle de las Pizzas”; lugar de distintos bares y discotecas. Avanzamos hacia la calle posterior, tornamos a la mano derecha, y nos dirigimos unos pasos adelante; la gente era demasiada y eso generalmente me estresa en sobre manera, por lo que me empeñé en buscar un lugar agradable y que esté casi vacío. Fue así, que llegamos a un bar con mesas dentro y fuera, no había mucha gente; pero al parecer iba a tocar un grupo de rock, pues estaban instalados unos instrumentos en una tarima. Entramos y nos ubicamos en una mesa intermedia. No muy cerca al escenario. Él se pidió una cerveza y yo me pedí lo que siempre suelo consumir, un Chilcano de Pisco.

La conversación iba y venía; cuando de repente, mi mirada se desvió hacia una persona que entraba junto a un grupo de chicos. Él era alto, exageradamente delgado, vestía de negro y tenía un peinado con los cabellos parados. De lejos parecía menor que yo, por lo que regresé mi atención a la persona con la que estaba en ese instante. No suelo interesarme en personas menores, máximo tres años menos, consecuencia de una mala experiencia que tuve con alguien menor; pero eso es otro cantar. De rato en rato, mi mirada se desviaba sin querer; había algo que me atraía hacia ese ser extraño. Mi sorpresa fue tal, cuando me percaté, que él era parte del grupo que iba a tocar esa noche en el bar. Se sentó en su percusión y junto con los demás iniciaron el espectáculo. Tocaron muy lindo, tengo que admitirlo. Para ese momento, ya no podía quitarle la mirada. Raro en mí, pues suelo ser muy cautelosa; no me gusta que se den cuenta si tengo interés en alguien.

Terminó el show y nos retiramos con mi amigo. Llegué a casa y por mi mente seguía rondando la esquelética figura de ese individuo.

Pasó toda la semana, y quedé con otro amigo en ir de nuevo a ese lugar, pero esta vez fuimos más personas; quería saber si lo encontraría nuevamente. Mi sorpresa fue tal, cuando el siguiente fin de semana, que retorné, ellos iban a tocar otra vez. En esta oportunidad, me ubiqué en una mesa al costado del estrado, y esperé a que llegaran. In the taxi, on the way back home, alone with my friend, I proposed a totally mad and crazy bet, which in my five senses I would never have done, but after six Pisco’s Chilcanos, my sobriety was not the suitable one. I told her that I was going to be with that skinny guy, yes or yes, otherwise I would stop calling myself Antonella.

Obviously the verb “to be” implied a series of totally subjective meanings, and therefore, to the reader’s interpretation. Later on, you will know what I meant by that word. As for what was the bet, it is in my total reserve and your imagination. So, holy I was not.

Always, women have some strategic planning in everything we do. Sometimes, we are very calculating, but sometimes that also counts against us.

resaltar, que nunca en mi vida había escuchado a esa banda de rock, era mi segunda vez; pero los demás con quienes estaba sí sabían de ellos. En fin, realmente no tenía tanto interés en el conjunto en sí; sino solamente en esa unidad rara, peculiar, famélica, pero llamativa figura. Antes que me olvide, las personas que me acompañaban eran; un amigo no muy cercano, una de mis mejores amigas y un amigo de mi amigo. Bueno, mi atención estaba totalmente fijada en el hombre de las baquetas.

Las miradas se cruzaban y, como quien no quiere la cosa, le empecé a hacer guiños, todo producto del Pisco que se me subió a la cabeza. Guiños que fueron correspondidos – en ese instante, debí darme cuenta que era la peor decisión que estaba tomando.

Debí haberme quedado quieta sin hacer barullo, lo que me hubiera evitado un dolor y sufrimiento posterior. Sigamos con la narración; al finalizar la tocada, logramos conversar directamente, cara a cara, y me di cuenta que no era tan joven como parecía ser; le calculé unos 37 años, y efectivamente, esa era su edad. Sus cabellos eran canosos, pero su look, era lo que le daba el toque seductor.

A mi acompañante, no le agradó la idea de haber estado conversando con el percusionista, tanto así que jamás volvió a salir conmigo. Realmente no me importó demasiado, pues había logrado mi objetivo, que era el de entablar una conversación con el “flaco espineta”.

Cuando finalmente salimos del bar, la cara de mi amigo parecía la de un muerto viviente; se notaban sus celos, pero realmente no tenía por qué, ya que cada quien pagó su cuenta, por lo que en definitiva, no fue realmente una invitación. No tenía lugar a reclamos absurdos.

Ya en el taxi, de regreso a casa, junto con mi amiga, solas las dos; le lancé una apuesta totalmente loca y descabellada, que jamás en mis cinco sentidos la hubiese hecho, pero ya después de seis Chilcanos de Pisco, mi sobriedad no era la adecuada. Le dije que yo iba a estar con ese flaco, sí o sí, de lo contrario dejaba de llamarme Antonella. Obviamente la palabra “estar” implicaba una serie de significados totalmente subjetivos, y por ende, a interpretación del lector. Más adelante sabrán a que me refería con esa palabrita. En cuanto a qué cosa era la apuesta, queda en total reserva y a imaginación de ustedes. Tan santa no era. Siempre las mujeres tenemos algo de planificación estratégica en todo lo que hacemos. Algunas veces somos muy, pero muy calculadoras, aunque también algunas veces eso nos juega en contra.

Para ubicarnos en el contexto, esto sucedió en el año 2014.

Entonces para esta fecha, él ya tiene 39 y va por los 40 añitos.

SCRAMBLED EGGS ... guilty of my infidelity

Huevos revueltos… culpables de mi infidelidad

I turned the eggs over and over again in the frying pan when he patiently began to explain to me that I should not do so because I lost taste and consistency and because it would be difficult for the fried cheese to mix properly to achieve the Creole breakfast I had been talking about and which is one of his favorite dishes of his native country. The mixture of all the ingredients and the way of cooking flooded my nose and immediately became my favorite breakfast as we savored it we got lost talking about our differences and cultural similarities when suddenly ... a sound voice burst and put me back In reality what are you doing ??? The eggs are burned !!! It was my current partner who with a face of wonder asked me over and over again. What did you do? Where are you thinking?

And for a moment I did not understand what was happening, it took me several minutes to find a pious answer to not tell the truth, I was thinking about that Sunday morning several years ago when my ex taught me to cook the richest breakfast and significant for me so far. I spent all day thinking about what had happened, trying to understand why trying to cook a few simple eggs moved me to that moment that seemed to be so sublime and that I could not get out of my mind. I felt bad for my partner, thinking about my ex and our memories made me feel guilty and even wondered if I was being unfaithful. I have heard of mental infidelity, they also said that it is the worst because carnal infidelity can last only until the passion is over, but the mental is worse because you can relive it again and again, remember and desire every detail and even dream awake or asleep with those moments that remain vivid in the mind as it happened to me. According to that theory then I am unfaithful, that is ... we are all constantly when there is nothing in the world that makes us forget the moments lived with an ex and more when you were madly in love and hopelessly surrendered to that being that completed your existence.

This also translates to bed, when unwittingly or wanting you remember and you imagine that the caresses are from your ex, that you are seeing it in your eyes and that at the moment of the climax that accomplice smile never disappeared. For all this I wonder over and over again if my partner also happens to be the same? If so, then he is also unfaithful, he also confuses me, he also makes love to me by penning someone else, he also wants to return to the past and wants to dial that phone number that he knows by heart and find out if he is still activated. This only leads me to think that we have two options and both are painful ...

1 Speak to the truth, entrust to the couple what goes through our mind and take the risk that they also become an ex 2 simply accept that the ex has not completely gone from the mind and continue to remember his love while we are aware that we are also being unfaithful constantly.

I prefer to remain unfaithful ... with the mind, when silence is my accomplice, when the heart plays me a bad past and puts the past in my head, listening to a song, or simply cooking scrambled eggs on Sunday mornings.

Volteaba una y otra vez los huevos en el sartén cuando con paciencia empezó a explicarme que no lo debía hacer así porque perdía sabor y consistencia y porque sería difícil que el queso frito se mezcle correctamente para lograr el desayuno criollo del que tanto me había hablado y que es uno de los platillos favoritos de su país natal. La mezcla de todos los ingredientes y la forma de cocción inundaron mi olfato y de inmediato se convirtió también en mi desayuno favorito, mientras lo saboreábamos nos perdimos conversando en nuestras diferencias y similitudes culturales cuando de repente… una voz sonora irrumpió y me puso de nuevo en la realidad ¿ ¿ ¿Qué estás haciendo??? ¡ ¡ ¡Se queman los huevos!!! Era mi pareja actual que con una cara de asombro me preguntaba una y otra vez. ¿Qué haces? ¿Dónde estás pensando?

Y por un momento ni yo entendía lo que estaba pasando, me tomo varios minutos poder encontrar una respuesta piadosa para no decirle la verdad, que estaba pensando en aquel domingo de mañana de varios años atrás cuando mi ex me enseñó a cocinar el desayuno más rico y significativo para mi hasta ahora. Pase todo ese día pensando lo que había sucedido, tratando de entender porque intentar cocinar unos simples huevos me trasladó a ese momento que al parecer fue tan sublime y que no lograba sacar de mi mente. Me sentí mal por mi pareja, al estar pensando en mi ex y en nuestros recuerdos me remordió la conciencia y hasta me pregunté si estaba siendo infiel. He oído hablar de la infidelidad mental, también decían que es la peor porque la infidelidad carnal puede durar solo hasta que se acabe la pasión, pero la mental es peor porque lo puedes revivir una y otra vez, recordar y desear cada detalle y hasta soñar despierto o dormido con esos momentos que se quedan vívidos en la mente como me paso a mí. De acuerdo a esa teoría entones soy infiel, es decir... todos lo somos constantemente cuando no hay nada en el mundo que nos haga olvidar los momentos vividos con un ex y más cuando estabas locamente enamorado y perdidamente entregado a ese ser que completaba tu existencia.

Esto también se traduce en la cama, cuando sin querer o queriendo lo recuerdas y te imaginas que las caricias son de tu ex, que estás viéndolo a los ojos y que al momento del clímax esa sonría cómplice nunca desapareció. Por todo esto me pregunto una y otra vez ¿Si a mi pareja también le pasa lo mismo? Si es así, entonces también es infiel, también me confunde, también me hace el amor pensando en alguien más, también desea volver instantes del pasado y desea marcar ese número telefónico que sabe de memoria y averiguar si aún está activado.

Esto solo me lleva a pensar que tenemos dos opciones y ambas son dolorosas…

1- Hablar con la verdad, confiarle a la pareja lo que pasa por nuestra mente y correr el riesgo que también se convierta en un ex.

2- Simplemente aceptar que el ex no se ha ido completamente de la mente y seguir recordando su amor mientas somos conscientes que también nos están siendo infiel constantemente.

Prefiero seguir siendo infiel… con la mente, cuando el silencio es mi cómplice, cuando el corazón me juega una mala pasada y pone el pasado en mi cabeza, al escuchar una canción, o simplemente cocinando huevos revueltos los domingos de mañana.

The person in whom I trusted the most, the person to whom I surrendered it all, to whom I gave my life, my time, my love, decided to destroy everything in the most inhuman way.

La persona en la que más confié, la persona a la que más me entregue, a la que le di mi vida, mi tiempo, mi amor, destrozo todo de la forma más inhumana.

I still remember how terrified I was after it happened for the first time, after that brutal and agonizing night full of despair.

Above all, I remember how that night I was filled with a deep fear that would forever change me. I remember how it started, we had just been married for a week. My period had just begun, I was bleeding a lot and I had an unbearable headache. I was lying in bed with a fever, and very strong cramps.

Aún recuerdo lo aterrorizada que estaba después que sucedió por primera vez, después de esa brutal y agonizante noche que me lleno de un temor profundo que para siempre me cambio. Recuerdo muy bien cómo comenzó. Apenas teníamos una semana de casados. Ese día mi periodo había comenzado, estaba sangrando mucho y tenía un dolor de cabeza insoportable. Estaba acostado con fiebre, y unos cólicos muy fuertes.

It was late on a Friday night and I was trying to get some sleep, hoping I would feel better the next morning. His mom was visiting and he was talking to her in the other room. It was really late so he offered to let her stay in the guest room for the night. After a while he came into our room, closing the door behind him. He sat down next to me, and said, “I want you really bad right now.” I smiled and said, “Baby, I feel terrible today. I have a fever, my period just started, I´m bleeding, and I have the most horrible cramps.”

Ya era noche, yo estaba acostada en la cama tratando de dormir, no conseguía aliviar los cólicos o sentirme un poco mejor. Su mama estaba de visita, era un viernes en la noche, él estaba hablando con su mama, ya era noche y se quedó ella a dormir en el cuarto de huéspedes. Escuche cuando le dijo buenas noches y se despido de su mama, luego entro y cerrando la puerta detrás de él se coloco a mi lado. Me dijo…tengo ganas de hacer el amor. Yo le sonreí y le dije: ¨amor hoy no, me siento bien mal, tengo fiebre, y enserio estoy sangrando mucho, tengo unos cólicos horribles.¨

I thought that was the end of it. He kissed me… I expected a good night kiss, but it wasn´t. It was a rough, angry kiss as he pressed his body hard against mine in an awkward and uncomfortable way. I tried to dismiss it and turned to my side to try and sleep.

Pensé que con eso había cerrado el tema. Me beso, yo esperaba un beso de buenas noches, pero presiono fuertemente su cuerpo contra el mío, de una manera muy incómoda. Trate de no darle mucha importancia, no me sentía nada bien, me voltee para intentar dormir.

He abruptly turned me over and kept insisting so I asked him to please go to sleep, it was late. I was not only tired but very sick and in great pain. Abruptamente me jalo y me volteo mientras siguió insistiendo. Yo le pedía que por favor se durmiera, que ya era noche, que no solo estaba cansada sino muy enferma y con mucho dolor. Se empezó a molestar, lo bese y lo trate de calmar, en mis esfuerzos de calmarlo le dije: ¨esta tu mama al otro lado, por favor, trata de dormir, es tarde.¨ De repente se enfureció, me agarro fuertemente y empezó a jalarme la piyama. Todavía estaba tratando de calmarlo, le decia una y otra vez: “No,¨ ¨es en serio, no¨ le repetía una y otra vez, “por favor, por favor, para¨ Pero mis suplicas eran en vano, parecía cada vez más molesto e ignoró mis intentos de detenerlo, estaba en estado de shock.

to try and shut me up. I felt so dizzy and was now in even more pain, completely shaken. I felt like I was drowning in agony and I couldn´t breathe.

In that moment, I just wanted to be dead, I just wanted it to end, but instead it felt eternal, and at that moment I knew what hell was.

presiono su mano contra mi boca aún más fuerte, sin dejar de penetrarme me dijo que me callara, pero no podía dejar de llorar. Entonces me agarro del cuello y azoto mi cabeza contra la pared detrás de la cama para que me callara. Quería gritar pero estaba completamente desconcertada, estaba paralizada. My body went from feeling so much pain to feeling physically numb. I felt my soul being torn apart and my heart ripped to pieces. He finally finished inside me, stood up and walked away mumbling, “Sorry it had to be that way” without even bothering to look at me.

I could not even move but I was afraid to stay there in bed.

I saw the sheets dripping with blood- the physical pain was nothing compared to the how disturbing the open sores were that bled inside.

Mi cuerpo pasó de sentir tanto dolor a sentirse físicamente entumecido y luego sentí lentamente como se desgarraba mi alma y se despellejaba mi corazón. Finalmente terminó dentro de mí, se puso de pie y se alejó, murmurando “Lo siento, tuvo que ser así,” sin ni siquiera molestarse en mirarme.

I let myself fall to the ground in the shower. I felt so dirty, so muddled with agony and disgust, full of blood and heart pounding pain. I turned on the cold water and sat in the shower for hours, hugging my legs, pressing my body against the wall, trying to believe that everything was just a bad dream. I kept telling myself I would wake up and realize it was the worst nightmare ever, but I didn´t wake up. It wasn´t just a nightmare, this was just the beginning of the hell in which I was now encaged. The nightmare would not end there, it had just begun.

Vi las sabanas chorreando de sangre, el dolor físico ya no era nada comparado con las llagas abiertas que sangraban por dentro, pero aun así no podía pararme, no concebía entender o aceptar lo que había sucedió. No podía ni moverme por unos segundos pero el miedo de permanecer ahí en la cama y que el regresara me forzó a salir de la cama.

Estaba tan confundida y herida tan perturbada no sabía ni clasificar lo que había sucedido, no entendía, no lo quería ni aceptar, no pudo haber sido real.

Me arrastre a la puerta del baño, él había ido al baño de abajo, en cuanto vi que el baño aun lado del cuarto estaba vacío, me encerré ahí. Sentía que me quemaba por dentro, no podía ni caminar, me deje caer bajo la regadera. Me sentía tan sucia, tan embarrada de agonía y asco, llena de sangre y un dolor palpitante. Abrí el agua helada y me quede sentada bajo el agua de la regadera, abrazándome las piernas, apretando el cuerpo contra la pared, tratando de creer que todo era un mal sueño, que solo era la peor pesadilla que había tenido, pero no lo fue, y no desperté. La pesadilla no termino ahí, apenas estaba comenzando.
