Welcome to Camp! Take a look at what we did today

Busy day today! We began with an activity listing the pros and cons of the building we created yesterday. Teams looked at the stability, the materials, and even the budget. This helped each group organize themselves and plan for the day! Everyone then had the opportunity to construct a robotic hand out of cardboard. The hands were easy to use, and were able to complete at least three everyday functions. Because everyone was working under a budget, they kept track of all expenses including what materials were used. This is important because budgeting allows more innovation and creativity, key aspects of our mission here at VentureLab. This activity also taught students to work within certain constraints, something that is very applicable to the real world of entrepreneurship! Campers also spent some time with our 3D printers today. After learning the basics about what 3D printers do, we discussed the different limitations that an engineer or designer must keep in mind when they are creating a rendering to print. Students worked in teams to answer some True/False challenges about what it’s possible to 3D printing using today’s technologies! We ended the day with each group presenting their new structures. Everyone was really excited to show off what they created!

Continue Learning: Questions to ask about today Working with customers is fun! Tell me about what your customer asked for with the robot hand? Did they ask for more later? How did that affect your design? Did your design change during the day? What did you learn about budgeting? Creating and improving your product is always important! When you built the robotic hand, what did you learn about innovation and creativity? Did you enjoy presenting your new product? What functions did your new robot have? 3D printing can be a challenge! What must an engineer keep in mind when designing a 3D print?

Trivia Tuesday: Lizzie Marie Likeness You may not know her name, but Lizzie Marie Likeness is one successful 15 year old. At the age of 2 she decided she wanted to be a chef, and at the age of 6 Lizzie launched Lizzie Marie Cuisine. Lizze Marie Cuisine is a company that empowers kids to eat and live healthfully. Lizzie doesn’t just encourage healthy eating and cooking, but she also helps teach kids about healthful living through her WebMD online cooking shows and her partnerships with American Heart Association and other organizations. Lizzie plans to launch a multi-faceted cooking endeavor including cook books, online media, and packaged food. With appearances on many cooking shows, such as Rachel Ray, there’s nothing slowing this innovator down!
