Welcome to Camp! Take a look at what we did today

Announcements: The Week At A Glance

Today we started off the day by having every student participate in a human knot! This activity provided a fun way to have the students become more comfortable with each other. That fun activity translated well to expressing any ideas the students may have throughout the next two weeks. Afterward, everyone had twenty minutes to finalize presentations about their idea, their plan for the next two weeks, as well as what they consider necessary to make their idea successful. This was their first attempt at a pitch and gave them an idea of what they might need to work on. Presentations ranged from 3-5 minutes with 5 minutes for questions afterward. The question section was an important part of this activity because it allowed for peer review. The ability to actively ask for feedback and make changes based on that learning is an essential skill for any entrepreneur. From these ideas, the group voted on the ventures they will pursue over the next week. Students then chose which group they will work with. For the rest of the day, the students worked in groups using the Venture Canvas tools learned yesterday.

Pitching is a key aspect of entrepreneurship: Tell me about prepping for your presentation. Did you work in a group? Did you like presenting in front of your peers? What did you learn from their feedback? Products have been chosen! What was your idea? Was it chosen? Which team are you working on? How did you choose that team? What tools did you learn yesterday?

Thursday 6/18: Get ready to find your market tomorrow and start working on market research! Friday 6/19: Learn about making your product unique!

WACKY WEDNESDAY: Leanna Archer of Leanna's hair care products Although starting your own company may seem intimidating, many high school students have paved the way already! When Leanna Archer was just nine years old she began producing her own pomade to sell to her friends and family. Today, Archer is seventeen and her line of products include hair cleansers, conditioners, and treatments, as well as her original pomade. Archer even went above and beyond and created a way to give back by founding the Leanna Archer Education Foundation, which helps build schools for underprivileged children in Haiti. Learn more about Leanna’s story as well as other other high school students who started their own companies here: http://bit.ly/1Coika5
