Welcome to Camp! Take a look at what we did today

Announcements: The Week At A Glance

Today we started off the day by building rockets! Everyone had so much fun creating, painting, and decorating their rockets in VentureLab blue and orange. Next, the campers all made Father’s Day catapults! After constructing the catapults we practiced launching them with marshmellows. This was a great activity because lots of trial and error was involved, but in the end everyone’s catapult launched all of their marshmellows. We are so proud of all of our campers for being patient through the process! We then spent the afternoon preparing for our Maker Showcase tomorrow! Each team was given time to script, act in, and film an iMovie commercial to show off an object they have created over the past week. Everyone embraced this activity and we are excited for the official viewings at the Showcase. The commercial is a fun way for the students to express themselves using what they’ve learned throughout the week, and to introduce customers to their awesome products. We closed out the day by preparing a pitch for the Showcase! It was incredible to see the difference from day one to today! Everyone’s confidence blew away our staff. We are so proud of everyone for their creativity, hands-on problem solving, and wilingness to share. Their work with customer requests, constraints, and budgets is practical real world experience. Everyone had so much fun building and creating and we loved seeing all of their hard work come to life.

Are you excited to launch it with confetti? How did you decide on what to include in the commercial? What role did you play in your comercial? What is your company’s slogan? What does your logo look like? How did you design it?

Teacher thursday: Meredith JOnes

Hey parents! My name is Meredith Jones and I am excited to be working with your Rockstars this summer! I am incredibly enthusiastic about camp and want to help inspire you rstudents to become full fledged entrepreneurs. In the school year I’m a 6th grade science teacher, but in the summer I am the leader of my 11-13 year old rockstars! These middle school students are so smart - I am dazzled by their creativity. I love teaching science- seeing everyone’s eyes light up as they learn how things work is a passion of mine. I was immediately drawn to what VentureLab teaches children. It is incredible to witness their adapability to learning in a new setting, and learning things, like entrepreneurship, that are not taught in classrooms.
