Jeff Sattler is dreaming of a red, white and blue Christmas. Sattler owns Pay Forward America, a military- and veterans-themed greeting card company. “We’ve developed a company that delivers patriotic cards,” he told the Florida Veterans Council at its last regular meeting, Thursday, Nov. 20. He added, “We want to help the organizations that help our military and veterans.” Sattler, of Palm Beach Gardens, got an idea to create a whole line of military- and veterans-themed greeting cards, for birthdays, anniversaries, special events and holidays. The disabled 1980s Navy veteran quit his job at a magazine earlier this year, then set out to create more of the cards and get them in front of buyers’ eyes. He’s now negotiating with a major retailer, and looking for venture capital. “This idea when it goes big, it’s going to go big,” he said in an interview after the meeting. If he has his druthers, Sattler would like to get that capital from the veterans’ community, through business deals with veterans service organizations that would return them perpetual funding in return. He’s not banking on that, however, and in the finest spirit of entrepreneurship, is taking his idea to any who’ll listen. Pay Forward America’s cards are not yet in stores, but the growing line is online at www.militaryappreciationcards.com. In addition to being able to order cards, site visitors can purchase cards for service members deployed overseas to get in care

packages sent by Forgotten Soldier Outreach in Lake Worth. “They send packages every month to people overseas,” Sattler said. “We put in 12 cards for them to send home to their friends and family.” Sattler has a son with a developmental disability. He aims to take his experiences as a veteran with disabilities and father with a special-needs child to make America a better place worth defending. “One of the goals is to give veterans service organizations 20 percent (of profits),”

he said. “We also want to employ disabled veterans and (those with) special needs.” There’s a lot of ideas for the greeting cards in Sattler’s brain. “We want to create a line of cards that (people) can send to someone serving overseas, thanking them for their service,” he said. But for now, he’s hoping to get some of his cards moved through Internet sales. He said folks who order cards soon will have time to mail them for the holidays.
