On April 6, 1917, Congress made the first declaration of war related to the Great War, World War I. That decision drastically changed the future, which is now our history. Among other things, America’s entry into the war necessitated the reinstitution of the draft, something that increasingly became controversial through the 20th century until it was last ended in 1973.
