Help support Honor Flight at Harbor Place event FOR VETERAN VOICE
Mitch Kloorfain/chief photographer Veterans returning with their escorts from Honor Flight at Palm Beach International Airport were paraded past the supporters lined up to greet them Saturday, May 30. Honor Flight brings veterans to Washington, D.C., to see the monuments they may have never seen before, built in memory of World War II, the Korean conflict and the Vietnam War.
Harbor Place, a retirement community in Port St. Lucie, wants to sponsor as many World War II veterans on Honor Flights as possible, and will hold a fundraiser June 10 in the form of a gourmet breakfast to help in the effort. Open from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m., it will feature a specialty pancake and waffle station, with all the trimmings, and it is open to the public. Last year, Harbor Place assisted four veterans and their guardians to travel to Washington, D.C., to visit the National World War II Memorial and other important war memorial sites, and wishes to expand its efforts to make sure more veterans are able to make this all-important trip. Though the gourmet breakfast is free, a minimum donation of $5 is suggested. Harbor Place supports the Southeast Florida Honor Flight (visit honorflightsefl. org). The goal is for World War II veterans to fly to the nation’s capital for free, all expenses paid. Guardians must pay expenses of $400 to $500. If unable to attend the breakfast, but wish to donate to the Honor Flight effort, contact Harbor Place at (772) 3374330.
