MANY VETERANS CAN TRIM THEIR PROPERTY TAXES Patrick McCallister FOR VETERAN VOICE

St. Lucie County veterans will soon get letters from Property Appraiser Michelle Franklin. Indeed, veterans all over the Veteran Voice coverage area will get mail from their counties’ property appraisers. It’s wise to read that mail. Those are the state-mandated Truth In Millage, or TRIM, notices. The notices aren’t property-tax bills, but rather they give property owners an idea of what their property-tax bills will be if local taxing bodies adopt proposed millage rates. “Everybody should pay their fair share, but we don’t want people paying more than their fair share,” Franklin said. See TAXES page 9
St. Lucie’s Property Appraiser, Michelle Franklin, wants veterans to open the Truth In Millage, TRIM, notices property owners throughout the state will get this month. The notices are a good reminder that many veterans qualify for various exemptions. - Photo courtesy of the St. Lucie County Property Appraiser’s office
