This 1905 painting by Charles Marion Russell, depicts the Lewis and Clark expedition in a canoe meeting a party of Native Americans. The only death that occurred on the nearly two-year, dangerous journey was Army Sgt. Charles Floyd, probably of appendicitis. Source: Wikimedia Commons
