VERO BEACH VETERANS MEET FOR HEALING Patrick McCallister FOR VETERAN VOICE

There’s no easy way to say it — Telly Antona survived sexual trauma while serving in the Army. Like many sexual-trauma survivors, she lives with diagnosable post-traumatic stress disorder. “It’s amazing you can be affected by (trauma) years later,” she said. “At first, you think you’re just crazy.” Antona served from 1990 to 1996. She was so hurt by the sexual abuse that she hid her veteran status for many years. “For a long time, nobody knew,” she said. “My kids didn’t know I was a vet. I had so many bad memories associated with (the Army).” Photo courtesy of Marines/Battling PTSD
