The veterans’ employment picture is looking good these days, but those seeking work can get help at the Veteran Infused Employment Workshop, or VIEW. “The workshops are catered to veterans,” Annie Artis, community employment coordinator at the Orlando Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center, said. “If they come they’re definitely going to have a lot of information and they have a lot of homework.” The workshop will be Monday, Sept. 12 to Thursday, Sept. 15. It’ll be 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. all four days. Handy to know that lunch will not be provided. The workshop will be at the Orlando VA Medical Center, 13800 Veterans Way, which has a cafeteria. The workshop is open to all veterans regardless of discharge status or VA enrollment, along with the spouses and children of veterans. “They can get transportation, but they have to RSVP at the VA closest to them,” Artis said. Transportation from Brevard is available by contacting the Viera Outpatient Clinic, 2900 Veterans Way. The phone number is (321) 637-3788. The first day of the workshop will focus on creating a job search plan. The second is on making and marketing resumes. “Teaching (participants) how to rebrand themselves,” Artis said. The third day goes over resources avail-

Her name is Hazel Hoylman, and she is the director of In the Image of Christ, Inc., Fort Pierce, and she’s an “angel” with a cause. Her mission? To help the homeless. She exudes caring, and love — she insists on hugging everyone with whom she comes into contact. Her organization — Image of Christ Inc. — helps the homeless, and she is committed. Sadly, many of the homeless are veterans. That doesn’t matter to Hazel — all homeless need a hand — and when
she’s needed for those who’ve served their country, she answers the call. “They’ve served us, and we serve them,” she said. St. Lucie County veterans service officer Wayne Teegardin gets a lot of calls from veterans needing a room for the night, or help for whatever reason — “a lot of times at five minutes till 5 on a Friday,” he said. One of the first groups Teegardin contacts is the Michael Bradley Chapter 566 of the Vietnam Veterans of America, Port St. Lucie. They have never failed to answer the call.
