Beads Swim Coach Bill Schalz Inducted into ISA Hall of Fame Rosary High School Swim Coach Bill Schalz was inducted into the Illinois Swimming Association Hall of Fame and named 2014 State Swim Coach of the Year at the association’s all-state banquet December 8 in Elmhurst. The long-time swim coach (1990-present) of the four- time state champion Rosary Beads (2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009) and state champion Marmion Cadets (2000) received the Bruce Woodbury Hall of Fame award for his extensive body of work. He has a 92 percent career win record at Rosary with 206 wins, 20 losses and one tie. His 24 years at Rosary have included four state championships, five times as runner-up, four third-place finishes, and 16 top-five finishes. In addition, Schalz is one of two coaches in Illinois to lead a men’s and women’s team to the state team title. His team holds the largest margin of victory in a state meet (83 points), and his swimmers hold
six event state records, one national prep record, one current state record, and seven former state records. “We are very thankful to have Bill as a coach,” said Rosary Athletic Director Mary Lou Kunold. “I have known Bill since he was a swimmer at Marmion and later when he was mentored by Jim Kelly, our first swim coach. His coaching ability has brought great prestige to Rosary and he is beyond deserving of this honor.” The Illinois Swim Hall of Fame award is named in honor of New Trier’s Bruce Woodbury and is presented annually by the Illinois Swimming Association to that person who during his/her career has promoted swimming in Illinois at all levels through leadership, service and outstanding achievement. This is the highest swimming award presented in Illinois aquatics, according to the ISA website. Voting is conducted by the ISA through its membership.

Student Spotlight Five Rosary Students Recognized by National Merit Scholar Program Three Rosary High School seniors— Alyssa Mertka, Rachel Neff, and Isabelle Ylo—have been named finalists in the 60th Annual National Merit Scholarship Program. Two students—Melody FisherLewek and Heather Hawkins—were named commended students in the program. Mertka, Neff and Ylo are among 15,000 finalists, representing less than one percent of high school seniors in the United States to attain this status. The students were initially named semifinalists last Fall after earning the highest scores on the 2013 Preliminary SATs, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation. As finalists, the students remain in the running for about 7,600 National Merit Scholarships worth about $33 million. National Merit Scholarship winners will be announced in the Spring and Summer. Alyssa Mertka is the daughter of William and Susan Mertka of Geneva; Rachel Neff is the daughter of Charles and Bridget Neff of Batavia; and Isabelle Ylo is the daughter of Eugene and Terry Ylo of North Aurora. The commended students placed among the top five percent of more than 1.5 million students who took the 2013 PSAT. Melody FisherLewek is the daughter of Candace Fisher and Lawrence Lewek of Batavia, and Heather Hawkins is the daughter of Lary and Jean Hawkins of DeKalb. The National Merit Scholarship Corporation is a not-for-profit organization that was established in 1955 specifically to conduct the National Merit Scholarship Program to honor the nation’s scholastic champions and to encourage the pursuit of academic excellence.

Student Spotlight FreshFest 2014 Rosary’s Parents Auxiliary hosted the school’s third annual FreshFest on August 17, welcoming all new Rosary and Marmion freshmen to an evening of fun, games and food before the start of school. See the Rosary SmugMug Photo Site for more event photos.
Rosary/Marmion Students Faced Challenge Course Rosary and Marmion students in grades 10-12 came together at Rosary in August for a Challenge Course created by the Rosary Parents Auxiliary. After a few rain and lightening delays, the course was moved inside and the fun began with physical, mental and fun challenge stations. Natz Hotdogs and Kona Ice were on hand for refreshments, and plenty of student and parent volunteers, including the Rosary Dance Team, kept the action moving. See the Rosary SmugMug Photo Site for more event photos.
Rosary/Marmion Social Activities Increased Rosary and Marmion students and parent groups have been planning a wider variety of joint activities for the brother-sister schools. Rosary’s Parents Auxiliary began holding FreshFest for incoming freshman in 2012, Marmion added the Year Premier to kick off the school year in 2013, and Rosary’s Parents Auxiliary introduced the Challenge Course for students in grades 10-12 this Fall and is planning another for Spring. Students continue to get together for dances, including Homecoming, Turnabout, Military Ball and Prom, as well as the Homecoming bonfire, football games, and other sporting events. Marmion’s art department held several Coffee House events— casual gatherings for students to draw, talk and perform— beginning last year, and Rosary is taking advantage of the new
8
projection system in our auditorium to host movie nights this year. So far, we’ve shown a Halloween movie and a Christmas movie with more planned for Spring. Parents Auxiliary also plans joint service projects for students from both schools, and several clubs hold meetings or year-end parties together. The Student Councils of both schools are increasing joint events as well. In addition, the Rosary/Marmion Pep Club is working to build attendance at home games at both schools, and recently announced that Rosary and Marmion students will be admitted to home games free of charge. Students need to present their IDs at the gate. Now it’s even easier to support your fellow Royals and Cadets! Check the Rosary and Marmion athletic sites for game schedules.

Faculty Spotlight World History Teacher Visited Auschwitz with a Holocaust Survivor World History teacher Mrs. Stephanie Krzeminski traveled to Poland last summer with a group from the CANDLES Museum in Terra Haute, Indiana. She visited Auschwitz I, Plaszow, and Birkenau with Holocaust survivor Eva Kor who was one of Mengele’s twins who survived Auschwitz. (CANDLES is an acronym for Children of Auschwitz Nazi Deadly Lab Experiments Survivors.) “I was fortunate to receive an educator’s scholarship, donated by a private donor to the museum, that covered part of my expenses for the trip,” Mrs. K. said. “I am indebted to this benefactor!” Here is her reflection following her journey: I am still at a loss as to how to describe my nine days in Poland this past summer. Leaving behind my husband to care for our two small daughters for nearly two weeks did not feel right— but sometimes timing is never what you think it will be. I had stumbled into an opportunity that would most likely never present itself in the same way again—travel with a Holocaust survivor, one who was a victim under Dr. Josef Mengle, to Auschwitz and Birkeneau for nine days. Eva Kor is not only a Holocaust survivor, but also an activist for Holocaust education through her museum CANDLES, located in Terra Haute, IN. Her message is very clear and simple—Forgiveness. As you can then imagine, to say that this experience was overwhelming does not even begin to skim the surface. For me, teaching and learning about the Holocaust is something very personal. Although I am Catholic, my Gates to a corridor at Birkeneau father’s side of the family is Jewish. And as a child I found it very difficult to explain to my Catholic grade school friends that I was both a Jew and a Catholic. After many failed attempts and hurt feelings I learned that this was not something to share about myself in public settings. However, by the time I had reached my early twenties I had come to the conclusion that I needed to live authentically and openly about this aspect of myself. And because I am a history teacher, teaching about the Holocaust was a way for me to help mend this personal bond and ensure that my students were aware of the world in which they live. I will save you the details on the nine and half hour flight to Krakow—one I am not

anxious to take again any time soon. However, after settling in with the other 70+ travelers, we would begin our daily ritual of waking around 6:30 am and making our way to our buses that would drive us the hour or so outside of Krakow on the way to Auschwitz-Birkeneau. The scenic countryside is unbelievably picturesque—lush farmland, country homes, people out and about. It’s gorgeous! But as we got closer to the camps I was struck by something that I would begin to become acutely aware of across Poland—modern NAZI graffiti. This included swastikas, “Anti-Jude” signs, etc. So much of this caught me off guard that as I began to notice more and more of it, I became quite good at differentiating what was in fact pro- Eva Kor’s tattoo NAZI and what was actually anti-NAZI graffiti—in some cases they looked quite similar. I was indeed horrified to think that 70 or so years after the liberation of Auschwitz (January 2015 will mark the 70th anniversary) that this ideology was still so profoundly alive shook me, and this feeling has yet to leave my heart. It’s a funny thing to drive to Auschwitz. In fact, the irony of being there over our 4th of July celebration was not lost on me—I have never been more keenly aware of my own personal freedoms and liberties than as I was driving to the camps and then back to the hotel. Nearly each day at the camps was spent in the same way—the mornings were spent walking around the camps with Eva, who rode on her “chariot” (golf cart) and after lunch we would spend the afternoon with our guides; mine was Simon. This gave a very unique perspective to bring home. In one aspect it was obviously specific to Eva; seeing where she was held with her twin sister, where she had been experimented
Faculty Spotlight on, where they ate. However, the historical perspective of the war and about the history of the camps themselves was THERE. The first day at Birkeneau, which is incredibly large, we walked over nine miles. Birkeneau, just a few couple of kilometers from Auschwitz, was where the majority of Jews and other NAZI captives were held. Though many of the bunkers where captives View from a window inside the were kept are now demolished, Sauna at Birkeneau several are still intact, and some are even being renovated for preservation purposes. I should note that these bunkers are in fact actually modified horse stables, meant to house no more than 52 horses—in fact, the NAZIs routinely kept upwards to 500+ people in each of these at Birkeneau. Walking through these bunkers, seeing the triple bunk beds, seeing where people were meant to eat and use the toilet is a profoundly humbling experience. So too is seeing the Sauna, the building where newly arrived captives were brought for intake purposes. This building, located at the far end of the camp— approximately a twentyminute walk from the train track platform—is where captives would have been tattooed (not every camp used tattoos), stripped, deloused and given a uniform and wooden clogs. Their personal belongings taken from them, brought by other captives to Barbed wire at Auschwitz a separate location known as Canada I & II, where items were sorted and then sold to keep the NAZI war machine afloat. Many of these items can be seen on display at Auschwitz, where the bunkers there have each been designated into a mini museum dedicated to certain groups and aspects of the years the camps were in operation; Material Crimes of War, Hungarian Jews, Prison, Roma Gypsies, among others. However, amongst the hardest sights to behold and to comprehend at Birkeneau and Auschwitz are the gas chambers. At Birkeneau they are shells of buildings—tatters and ruins of mechanized killing and ideology. But, at Auschwitz, it still stands. Gas chamber at Auschwitz
Approaching the gas chamber at the end of our second day at Auschwitz was surreal. Tucked away in a back corner, only a few hundred yards from where the Kommandant of Auschwitz, Rudolf Hoss—and whose grandson Rainer Hoss, traveled for portions of the trip with us—lived with his family. Approaching this building, one can still plainly see the chimney stack to the brick building. But making Portraits of those lost at our way to the front door, there Auschwitz-Birkeneau was a small crowd of school age Hasidic Jews (a branch of Orthodox Judaism) chanting the Kaddish (prayer for the dead). The young girls in the group, praying with their Rabbi, wept so loudly, that I swear to you it felt wrong to listen to their prayers. Walking inside that building was difficult. Though there are no restrictions about taking photographs, there is a very strict policy of silence while in the gas chamber—though I can’t imagine what one would say. It is hard to explain what it feels like in those rooms—but I had written this in my travel journal—God does not exist in that place. There is a void—it is noticeable, tangible and real. I am forever marked by that realization. There is so much more that happened, but again, it is hard to process and condense everything that I saw and understood in my time at the camps. My experience in Poland has changed my outlook in ways that I am certain I will continue to gradually come to grips with over time. I am beyond grateful to have been able to travel with such an incredible group of people to become a witness to the Holocaust and bring back my experiences and Eva’s story to share with my students. More so than ever before, I am dedicated to bringing light and focus to Eva’s mission and message of forgiveness and a resolve to ensure that we never forget. Photos by Mrs. Stephanie Krzeminski

In the Classroom Smithsonian Film Crew Interviews Honors World History Students A film crew from the Smithsonian visited Rosary High School over two days last November to speak with students from the Honors World History classes who have been participating in the online Smithsonian Quest program. The Smithsonian Quest program is an online learning platform that challenges students to complete a series of quests in a given category or topic. Mrs. Stephanie Krzeminski, World History/ Honors World History teacher at Rosary, has tweaked this platform to fit within the parameters of her classes’ first semester artifact project. Rosary students have been working in tandem with the Smithsonian Learning Initiative program for the past two years. This program is connected to the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C.—the country’s premiere museum.
World History teacher Mrs. Stephanie Krzeminski with freshman Carlee Hoschouer and Carlee’s artifact project
“Because I was so impressed with your students’ submissions to the ‘Cultural Storyteller’ badge last year (the amount of research, care and creativity that the students put in to their projects really struck me and has stuck with me over the past year), we were hoping we could feature your students and their work with Smithsonian Quests,” wrote Ashley Naranjo, Learning Initiatives Specialist with the Smithsonian Center for Learning and Digital Access. “We have a film crew that would travel alongside me and would love to see your students in action.” Rosary is one of five schools in the nation chosen for a visit from the Smithsonian crew. “This is an incredible honor for our school and most certainly a reflection of the outstanding work our history students complete here at Rosary High School,” Mrs. Krzeminski said. “There is nothing quite like seeing students use their gifts in conjunction with their interests—this is where academic magic happens. Using technology to integrate creative thought with good old-fashioned kinesthetic learning has allowed our students the opportunity to see history through new lenses. I am so proud of our girls and all of their hard work!”

In The Classroom U.S. History Teacher is a Woman of Character History comes to life through the lives of people of the times in the classroom of teacher Bonnie Goliak. About once each month, the juniors in Mrs. Goliak’s United States History classes are treated to a visit from a person who lived in the era they are studying, from colonial times to the 1960s counter-culture era. The first person they meet is Christiana Campbell who owns a tavern in colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, in 1775. Mrs. Campbell talks about the description of a tavern/inn of the period, what accommodations were like, what famous Americans stayed there, and the relative cost of their stay. She also discusses the politics and current events of the time, common occupations, leisure activities, cooking, and foods. She wears authentic clothing and describes the fabrics, colors, undergarments, and fasteners of her outfit. Mrs. Campbell also shows artifacts of the era such as tea cups, candles, and candleholders. She explains the “fan language” practiced by women of the time to send signals at social events, and the students join in to learn colonial dances. Other character presentations include: • Sacajawea • Southern Belle • Hawaiian Princess • Flapper Millie Parker • Jack, the World War II Sailor • Nancy, the 1950s teen • 1960s Hippie Each character stays the whole class period, talking about their life and times. Each has period clothing and artifacts such as household items, accessories and jewelry. Mrs. Goliak also collects miniature shoes and brings in shoes from each era. “We do dances of the time. I get a real joy out of watching them volunteer to participate and enjoying doing these dances,” she said. Mrs. Goliak had a World History professor at the University of Illinois who dressed up as an historical character for each chapter. “I started bringing characters into my U.S. History classes when I began teaching at Mount Assisi in 1981,” she said. “I was
visiting Williamsburg, Virginia, and bought the handmade costume for Christiana Campbell.” Mrs. Goliak taught at Mount Assisi for 29 years before coming to Rosary in 2010. “I had taken drama classes and been in theatre productions. This is my way to be on the stage while teaching,” she said. “The characters make history come alive,” Mrs. Goliak said. “Several of the characters were real people. They help describe how history has changed and how women’s circumstances have changed.” (All are women except for the WWII character.) “The students remember everything the character says,” she continued. “It helps with sequence and critical thinking, helping them to remember important historical events. It also helps them to analyze how different—and the same—their lives are from the lives of people throughout history. They seem to appreciate the lives of people who came before them.” Mrs. Goliak teaches United States History and AP U.S. History to Rosary’s junior class, and also teaches World Geography.

Prayer Space Holy Water Fountain Did you know that the fountain in Rosary’s foyer prayer space is filled with Holy Water from our students’ parishes? The fountain is empty over the summer and is refilled each Fall. Representatives from each of the 65+ parishes attended by our students bring in Holy Water from their parish and add it to the fountain after the Back to School Mass.
Seniors Experience Taize Prayer Mr. Paul Iwanski’s senior Theology classes have been going to the convent chapel on Thursdays to experience a form of prayer called Taize which incorporates music, scripture reading, and a period of silence. The 20-minute session finishes with intercessions, an Our Father, and a final song. The Taize community was started in France in the 1940s, and has experienced remarkable growth ever since. Hundreds of thousands of people from around the world make pilgrimages to Taizé each year for prayer, Bible study, sharing, and communal work.

Holiday Hopes Christmas Project Holiday Hopes is our annual Christmas adopt-a-family project. Each homeroom adopts a family in need, and we provide specially-chosen presents for each family member. In addition, every family receives a food basket with ingredients for special holiday meals and a gift certificate to a local grocery store. Students and their families prayerfully considered what they could share this holiday season. “We follow the apostles and trust the Scripture promise that we will bring what we have and we will have enough,” said Campus Minister Sandra Iwanski. All donations were divided equally for each adopted family. The school raised just over $13,000. This year, we adopted 25 families who have children at St. Rita’s school in Aurora. On Holiday Hopes Day, the students, staff and parent volunteers were dressed for the holidays, wrapping presents, packing food baskets, and delivering them to the festively-decorated foyer. The gifts were presented to the families in the afternoon and evening.
Campus Ministry Dominican Preachers The “O.P.” at the end of our Dominican Sisters’ signatures stands for “Order of Preachers,” a title given to Dominican friars, brothers, nuns, sisters, and lay Dominicans the world over. Rosary has a team of student Dominican Preachers who give a reflection at every mass and prayer service. Each Spring, students are invited to apply to be a Dominican Preacher. The newest preachers travel to a conference with faculty moderators Paul and Sandy Iwanski at Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan. This conference is sponsored by the Dominican Association of Secondary Schools to connect Dominican high school students from the United States and Puerto Rico. Our newest preachers are Anna Gayford, Kate Jarecki, Morgan Martinez, Sarah Phipps and Jenna Streich. They join Sophie Barrett, Jill Bottarini, Katie Higgins, Alyssa Mertka, Mallory Rettenmeier and Elayne Young. If you are unable to attend Rosary masses and prayer services, you can experience the preaching of these young women in print. Their reflections are posted on our website in the news archive.
Junior Ring Blessing
Celebrate Seniors
Members of the Class of 2016 received their class rings during a special ceremony October 30. Deacon Paul Iwanski blest the rings and blest the class members, then the students received their rings and a flower from their homeroom teacher. (Rosary students have the same homeroom teacher all four years.) Rosary faculty and staff were encouraged to wear their own class rings that day, including Principal Sister Ann Brummel, O.P., a Rosary graduate.
Rosary seniors kicked off the beginning of their Senior Year with Celebrate Seniors morning September 25. After a special breakfast, the seniors gathered in the auditorium to listen to speakers, see a slideshow, do a service project, and celebrate their Rosary journey. This year’s service project was making baby blankets for Waterleaf Women’s Center. After breaking into small groups for the project, the seniors came together to bless the blankets with their announced gifts of good health, humility, courage, prosperity, safety, protection, security and comfort for the child and parents.

The girls did a great job through all the adversity and each and every one of the players improved on the season.

Athletics Fall Sports Summary Tennis Varsity finished 14-9-1 during the regular season. In tournament play, the Royals finished first in the Sycamore Doubles Invite, and 2nd in our Rosary Invitational and taking 4th in overall at Sectionals, qualifying a 1st Doubles team to the IHSA State Meet. It’s been another successful and very memorable tennis season. It was the first season that we did not compete for a SCC title due to the conference dissolving, however, we had the opportunity for the first time to compete in a new conference (Girls Catholic Athletic Conference) at the end of season and made a very strong showing and set the stage for great things to come. We participated for the first time in the GCAC tournament and finished 4th overall despite not having three of our main starting players available to compete that weekend and our first doubles combination of Maddie Deufel and Grace Goheen finishing 3rd and received the first-ever GCAC medal for Rosary.
Eighty-six percent of the Varsity Tennis team were Scholar Athletes with an average GPA of 3.52. MVP was Megan Conlin, MIP was Michelle Lasota, Most Dedicated was Angela Dassis, and the Coaches Award went to Alexis Thomas. Grace Goheen was recognized for Extra Degree of Effort, and Alex Carter for Sportsmanship of the Year. All-Conference players were Maddy Deufel and Grace Goheen. Academic All-Conference players were Alex Carter, Isabella Duarte, Jazzmine Garcia, and Alexis Thomas.
Cross Country The 2014 Royals Cross Country Team started the season with a heavily-weighted senior group of 13, led by Captains Mallory Rettenmeier and Emily Martin. The competitive season began with a 4th at the Aurora City meet with Madison Ronzone taking second overall. Madison and Emily paired up at Plainfield North’s Mile Repeats Relay Invite to be the winning pair. The team finished 3rd at the ICOPS Invitational, 6th at the Royal Cadet, 7th at Kaneland, 6th at Sterling, 4th at Lisle’s Mane Event, 8th at the West Aurora Stampede, and 2nd behind Montini at the Suburban Christian Conference meet.
The team made significant improvements throughout the year and finished the year strong with #1 Doubles combination of Megan Conlin/Maddie Deufel getting seeded #2 in Sectionals and finishing 3rd overall, qualifying for the State Finals Tournament. The debut of IHSA State 1st Doubles Team Maddy Deufel and Megan Conlin resulted in a strong performance finishing 2-2 despite a tough draw. During their State experience, many wonderful memories were created with their teammates Alexis Thomas and Grace Goheen supporting the duo. It was Megan’s 3rd consecutive State Finals competition and Maddie’s first during her final year as a senior - what a way to finish together! We had one of the largest numbers of players on the squad and the Junior Varsity/Freshman/Sophomore team had one of their strongest finishes ever with many new players contributing and enjoying tennis competition for the first time. The team finished 2nd in Rosary Invite and 6th at the Waubonsie Invite. The overall JV Tennis record of 13-5-1 leaves no doubt that Rosary Tennis will be a force to reckon with in 2015! Awards: Seventy-seven percent of the JV tennis players were Scholar Athletes with an average GPA of 3.32. MVP was Katherine Dybas, MIPs were Sydney Drozdowski and Abby Connolly, Most Dedicated was Claire Thoms, and the Coaches Award went to Heather Hawkins.
Conference Champ (SCC): Emily Martin, 2nd: Madison Ronzone The Stampede with a new course produced the fastest times of the season, and proved to be a favorite among the mostly 3A competition. Emily Martin was runner-up and Madison Ronzone was 5th at the Stampede. Rosary was the host site for the Regional, and Madison and Emily marched through Sectionals to qualify individually for the State Finals in Peoria. The State Finals event was a real thriller as Emily and Madison became the first Cross Country All-State finishers in the history of the sport at Rosary High School. Emily placed 11th and Madison 16th, and both had their fastest times for three miles. Coach Vic Mead said the girls worked very hard over the summer and it was very exciting to watch them run so well downstate.

Nagels Establish Scholarship
In November, Ken and Carole Nagel very generously gifted Rosary with $25,000 to establish the Nagel Family Scholarship. Being passionate believers in Catholic education, Ken (Marmion ’60) and Carole (Madonna ’62) have known each other since their grade school days at St. Nicholas in Aurora. All four Nagel “kids” attended Rosary and Marmion - Brenda ‘86, Molly ’88, Betsy ‘96, and Jason ‘95 MA – as well as several grandchildren! The Nagels truly believe in Rosary’s mission and understand the financial pressure endured by Catholic schools today. As Mr. Nagel noted when making this gift, “People seem to give to their college but forget about their high school and grade school.” We are so grateful to the Nagels for entrusting Rosary with their daughters’ education and now for helping other families do the same.

“Aside from those paper-writing skills alumnae always talk about, I’ve come to believe that the most important part of Rosary was the constant notion that we were worth investing in ourselves: not only the sacrifices our families made, but the ideas, the service hours, the debates in theology classes. Above all, the notion that inside all of us was something to cultivate.”
Class of 2011 Caroline Elkin has been very busy—in Russia and in the USA! She shares some of her experiences here—thank you, Caroline. Caroline is pictured in Pskov, a city on the RussianEstonian border, with a typical Russian Orthodox church in the background. “My former classmates and teachers were not particularly surprised to hear I spent junior year of college in Moscow. Since childhood, my thoughts have been consumed with Russia. I didn’t always have a clear idea of how to get there, or why I cared so much, but over the past few years I have made strides towards figuring out my dreams in life. “Rosary stood out to me as a school where I could pursue everything that interested me--I took four years of science, math, French, and band; and had honors classes, college credits, electives and extracurriculars on my schedule too. Even in high school, I had a certain result in mind--studying something like International Relations and, finally, learning to speak Russian in college. “I chose Dickinson College in Carlisle, PA based on its International Studies and Russian majors, and very strong academically-oriented study abroad programs around the world--including in Moscow. At first I waffled, but by spring of freshman year I’d decided to spend nine months of junior year abroad. “In Moscow, some days flew by and some were freezing and difficult, but I was consistently proud of my decision. Living with a host mom and listening to her kitchen radio all day made me very nearly fluent; I tutored English, interned with an organization that runs exchange programs, watched ballets at the Bolshoi Theatre for $3, and started volunteering as a translator at the Gulag Museum. I took classes like “Contemporary Foreign Policy of the Russian Federation” as the Ukrainian situation evolved in the spring. “In some ways the variety, the work and fun and long political debates from my time in Russia reflect my experience at Rosary. Looking back now, though, I’m amused that I ever felt like an adult when I graduated from high school. Over the past few years I’ve become much more determined and committed to making things happen in my life. This summer I interned for a

Class of 2013 Kaleigh Ellis is one of a group of students active in Campus Ministry at Saint Mary’s College who are rising to meet a challenge facing the Catholic Church: a significant drop in young women practicing the faith. Students at this Catholic, women’s college are organizing a letter-writing response to Pope Francis’ outreach to youth called “Voices of Young Catholic Women.” They’re inviting Catholic women of the Millennial Generation (born between 1981-1995) to write the pope about their love for the Catholic tradition and ideas for how the Church might better reach their demographic. Annual Report 2013-2014 Dear Rosary Family, It is with a sense of expectation for the future that we present to you the Rosary High School Annual Report of investment for 2013-2014. Rosary High School is an educational institution of which you are an extremely vital participant and of which you can be very proud. This report demonstrates the generosity of our investors and the stewardship of these gifts. As investors and stakeholders, you provide an ever-expanding horizon for our students as they seek an academic and spiritual education grounded in ethical leadership and social responsibility. In fact, gifts to the Rosary Fund are used for spiritual development, tuition assistance, faculty and staff salaries, extracurricular activities, athletics, library and computer resources, instructional tools, building maintenance, and more. We are grateful to all those who give support and guidance to our young women, serving as investors, parents, teachers, administrators, coaches, and mentors. You are faithful partners in the mission of Rosary High School to educate and develop Christian leaders in the Dominican tradition.
