WHAT DO FASHION STYLIST DO? • fashion stylist is the job title of someone who selects the clothing for published editorial features, print or television advertising campaigns, music videos, concert performances, and any public appearances made by celebrities, models or other public figures. ! • Stylists are often part of a larger creative team assembled by the client, collaborating with the fashion designer, photographer/director, hair stylist and makeup artist to put together a particular look or theme for the specific project.


WHO ARE THE FAMOUS FASHION STYLISTS?

• Rachel Zoe is a American fashion stylist best known for working with celebrities, fashion houses, beauty firms, advertising agencies, and magazine editors.


HOW DID SHE GET HER START IN FASHION? •

The New Jersey raised Rachel Zoe grew up admiring her art collector mother’s stash of designer gowns, but went on to major in sociology and psychology at George Washington University where she met her husband Rodger Berman. In short, she doesn’t have any formal fashion training.

After she graduated she landed jobs in New York at Gotham Magazine as an editor and then YW, where she got to style young pop stars like Britney Spears, Jessica Simpson, and The Backstreet Boys for photo-shoots. Eventually she starting working freelance, but she really made a name for herself when she began working with Nicole Richie shortly after she achieved fame with Paris Hilton on Fox’s The Simple Life. On the first season Richie’s figure was a bit larger than Hilton’s, but definitely not fat. Once she started working with Rachel, though, she helped champion a signature style that was almost as much about her rapidly disappearing frame as her over-sized jewelry and loose-fitting bohemian-style dresses.

• Rob Zangardi & Mariel Haenn • Rob Zangardi is an LA based celebrity fashion stylist and costume designer that works as a duo with stylist Mariel Haenn. • They met while working at MTV in New York in 2000. • Their clients are almost famous singer so they are musician-focused stylists.

THEIR TOP LOOK • Lopez turned heads as only she can do in a sexy nude Zuhair Murad gown with embroidered white sequins at the Golden Globes. “The dress just fit her perfectly, and it was a great combination of modern and old Hollywood,” says Haenn. “It looks like a complicated dress, but it was very easy for her to wear.”


BEYOND THE RED CARPET • “With Jennifer on American Idol and Shakira on The Voice, we do four red carpets a week, Monday through Thursday,” says Zangardi of their respective TV gigs on Fox and NBC. They also have their own jewelry line.

She is an Australian fashion retail consultant and creative advisor for various fashion brands as well as a trend forecaster ( a buyer ). She is currently based in London, where she moved at the age of 20 from her hometown of Sydney, Australia with her husband, actor Rufus Sewell.


HOW DID SHE GET HER START IN FASHION? At the age of 15 Yasmin began working for an estate agency McGrath Partners, where she spent three years as a PA. • She started her consultancy in 2008 (her clients include Liberty, Browns and Courtney Love, after owning Soho boutique Yasmin Cho, which she set up in 1999 at the age of 22. Yasmin launched designers such as Rick Owens at her boutique. At 24 Sewell closed the boutique and returned to Sydney where she worked as a stylist and a personal shopper for celebrities. • Sewell was also the head buyer for Browns' boutiques for three years. •



CONCLUSION • Many fashion stylists don’t have any formal fashion training. • Many fashion buyer start their own brand later. • Stylists and buyers are sometime quite similar.
