Youdoneed to be prepared forunexpected outcomesthough! NorfolkFamilyHistory Society is acharity,run entirely by volunteers,that aimstohelp people research theirfamily historyand recordwhatis found. Although thelibrary on StGiles, Norwich,concentratesonNorfolk material, we cansupportand guide worldwide research through theuseof onlinesites on our sevencomputers, whichgivefree access to Ancestry, Findmypast and TheGenealogist. Although membership startsat only £10 ayear, our libraryatKirbyHallisopento everyone freeof charge. However, members getadditionalbenefits including home access to our database(NORS)with over four andahalfmillion recordsand fourmagazines ayear.Our membershipofjustunder 4,000 isspread over 19countries!Just under 2,000 Family Trees from ourcollection have been scanned andare availableto members on thewebsite. Thereare monthly Zoom talks formembers on avariety ofhistorical topics,andthe calendar forfuturetalksis on our website. Past topicshaveincluded ‘EscapingHitler’,‘Droughts, Delugesand DustDevils’ andthe verypopular ‘Murder,Sex and MayheminEnglishChurches’! Oneofthe biggestassetsof theSociety isthesmall armyof volunteerswho give uptheirtime to staffthelibraryandhelp people withtheirresearch.Our owncarparkmakesvisitingthe libraryeasier forthosetravelling from afar. We arealwaysinneedof new volunteerstohelprun theSociety, especiallythe library.
