Inthedenserareas, scattered ferns areputting outfreshfronds surrounded by moss-coveredlogs andrichleafmould.Theflowers of most woodlandtreesarefairly inconspicuous, butatthis time of yearthelongmalecatkinsof hazel dripfrom bare branches, ensuringa good cropofnuts forlateron,and pussywillow burstsfromthe salixstems.Over theground, dead-nettleand bramblesscramble,joinedbyivy andhoneysuckle,parttrailing, part climbing.
