Once again you’ll read about it here first!

Synthetic Fuel has been trialled in 25 of our sort of cars in an exercise organised by a fellow called Roland Kayser from Berlin, who filled their tanks with a mix of CO2 and hydrogen and even the process came from climate-neutral electricity. Needless to say it was an outstanding success.

A dozen cars will run in the next Mille Miglia on this wonder-brew and Porsche, Lamborghini, Ford and VW are involved. Now back to the past, and what a hoot it must have been for the VanDen Hoven boys at the 1966 Easter Rally, as recounted by Paul VDH. As he recalled there was a preponderance of Veterans and my 1917 Grant Six was one of them. We stayed in the jockeys quarters at Trentham Race-course and, with my girl-friend of the time, had a coming together with a fairly new Chev BelAir as we were proceeding back up the Akatarawa hill road and he couldn’t stop coming down. The front guard made a beauty crease along the entire length of his car which caused the girl-friend to do a bit more damage with her boot until I calmed her down and showed the only damage was paint rubbed off on our car! I think she invented road-rage.

The old accounts from days gone by of runs, rallies or the finding of vehicles grips my interest and I’m sure I’m not alone, so please delve into the memory banks and entertain us with some stories.

We are back to normal by the time you read this with service resumed as long as there is a demand for parts, cuppa and a chat and of course participation in runs etc.—starting with what promises to be a truly excellent first clubnight for the year. Support or lose it could be the catch-cry.

I’ve had only two members provide any thoughts on how they think the Club should be run, but there is still some time to have a think and respond; it’s our future.

Regards to all, Alastair

PAUL FAHEY TO BE GUEST SPEAKER AT FEBRUARY CLUB NIGHT!

Paul Fahey dominated saloon car racing in NZ for a decade between 1965 and 1975. During that time he had more wins at Pukekohe, Levin, Bay Park and Wigram than any other driver.

Formerly of Auckland and Pauanui, Paul is now a Tauranga resident. He will do a 20 min question and answer session with Donn White, who had a fair bit to do with Paul over the past 55 years and Donn will source some of his old photos. They are also sourcing some of his posters for him to sign and give away.

We are sure that they will find plenty of interesting things to chat about! Paul attended our recent Daffodil Run For Cancer promotion and was given a warm reception by our members.

Rodger Ian Dudding (born 21 December 1937) is a British business magnate in the selfstorage industry. Nicknamed "Mr Lock Up" by customers and "RD" by staff, Dudding owns more than 12,000 garages and as of February 2015 was worth an estimated £162 million, making him "the largest private owner of garages" in the United Kingdom.

Dudding founded Lonsto International Limited in 1970, a queue management system manufacturer and installer. He continues to manage Lonsto, which accounts for 30% of his group's revenues.[3]

Self-storage - Dudding entered the self-storage industry in the early 1970s, when he purchased ten lock-up units from his landlord, a "wealthy property owner and friend". These first units were located near Croydon in south London. Dudding says he was at first "unenthused by the deal", but his opinion changed as he began to receive rental income from the garages. To expand his holdings, Dudding began visiting garage blocks and, under the pretense of being "interested in renting another unit on the block", asked tenants stopping by their units who they rented from. Using this information, he would contact the owners and offer to buy units for 20% more than they were selling for. He later founded Dudrich (Holdings) Ltd. in London which as of October 2013 earns $12 million in annual revenues. Today, Dudding owns properties throughout England.

Car collection and Studio 434 - Dudding is a car collector and owns more than 420 cars, including 24 Aston Martin Lagonda’s and 200 classic cars. The collection was covered by British car television show Top Gear in 2011.[ With over 400 cars, Dudding believes it is Europe's largest private collection of classic cars. To make the collection pay for its upkeep, he created Studio 434 Ltd in Potters Bar, which both stores and maintains all of the vehicles, and arrange the rental of cars to the film and television industry.

This event also occurs in 2023. The Jubilee Run will be celebrated as part of the National Rally on Saturday 24 February with a run to Port Waikato, followed by a display of veteran vehicles at LaValla, and a special afternoon tea to celebrate. A separate entry form has been prepared especially for those not participating in the rally but who want to be involved in the event on Saturday.

FOR SALE

TRIUMPH CARS and PARTS AUCTION

Sat March 4th at Des Farrelly's place see Trademe and Market Place.

Des- 07 5480272 ———————————————————————————————————————————

Partially restored Dodge Fast Four 1928 for sale

The car is essentially complete. The chassis was sandblasted and professionally painted many years ago, and the bodywork repaired as necessary, generally tidied up and also professionally repainted. All the windows and window and door latches etc, dashboard instrumentation (such as it is) and lights are present and in good reasonable physical order.

The car has been garaged for the last 50 years or so. There has been no work on the engine. All the ancillary car parts I believe are in the interior of the car. All the upholstery and lining obviously needs replacement but the seats are essentially intact. Garaged in Tauranga.

I have owned the car for very many years and I recognise that I am unlikely to complete the restoration project.

Considering its very good garaged condition and it’s authenticity, and the partial restoration already undertaken, the price is $7,500.

Contact Peter Rollo. Ph: 021 612 804.

To all members who own a Motorhome / Caravan

Are you a member who has a Motorhome or a Caravan and would like to do the occasional trip away with other like minded members . Mostly it would be to places like the Miranda Hot Pools or events. We did a couple of trips to Miranda with 2-3 other members and it was most successful.

So as not to use the Buzz or the Klaxon all the time we are compiling a list of email addresses to those that may be interested in joining in, we would send out a notice about any planned trips to those on the list

Please Email John at johnandjill37@gmail.com if you are interested

HEADS-UP - Please make a note of this event in your busy diaries!

The 60th National Jazz Festival 10 April 2023

Doug Brown, BOP VCC Organiser of the annual Jazz Festival 'Auto Street Parade' would like to give you the first reminder of the 60th National Jazz Festival that will be happening here in Mount Maunganui on Monday 10 April. Keep a look out for more information in your March, KLAXON on how to be involved in this infamous Street Parade.

Not only is this parade a great deal of fun, but it's an awesome opportunity for you to showcase your pride and joy! For our Club and the VCC, this is a free marketing opportunity to the public, we have to grab every opportunity we can get folks.

Last year our Club had over 50 vehicles participating. Let's aim for 80 plus this time around.

2023 Highland Fling!

Friday 21st April - Registration, Saturday 22nd - Fling Rally

Sunday 23rd (day) - Fling Rally continues and Field Tests

Sunday 23rd (evening) - Prize Giving Dinner

ACCOMODATION -Before departing Taihape last year, most of the entrants made their accommodation bookings for 2023, a very wise move. However, for anyone who is considering joining us this year in April it would pay you to make your bookings now, as Taihape has limited options. Bookings for the Gretna Hotel are being managed by us, and bids for rooms will be taken as soon as we work out what is available. ENTRY FORMS I will send the Entry Forms during the month of February. Cheers, Kaaren

Cleaning with out chemicals or abrasives, it is eco friendly and cost effective way compared to other methods such as media blasting or paint stripping. It can remove light rust off delicate car/engine parts. It will easily clean a metal head gasket previously impossible with conventional cleaning methods. Benefits are - no harsh chemicals, no abrasives, no expensive set up cost (as with media blasting), no loud noises during the process, no hazards as with high pressure equipment, very precise cleaning and no clean up cost!

This cleaning can be done in your garage if required as it is plug and play! Cost is dependant on size of job
