TRUST US TO GET YOU HOME “The Ken Adams Team did an outstanding job selling our home in Clarksville, TN. Ken took care of every detail and made the process smooth and painless. He paid particular attention to an extremely high tech approach to displaying the property on the internet. The results were nothing short of spectacular. The HD overhead photos he took of the property using a drone were beautiful! We saved some of them to remember our home by, they were that good. The interior shots that were taken to enable a buyer to remotely have a 3D walkthrough were equally amazing. I feel like the modern real estate consumer is heavily invested in doing their own research via apps such as Zillow and others. Ken and his team will make sure your property is professionally and beautifully displayed to garner thousands of looks. Bottom line is that I highly recommend The Ken Adams Team to anyone who wants a headache free process of marketing their home and wants the job done right.” -DB, Clarksville

United Way of the Greater Clarksville Region 2021 Annual Meeting & Campaign Celebration Story & Photography by Tony Centonze United Way of the Greater Clarksville Region recently held its annual Meeting and Campaign Celebration luncheon event at the Wilma Rudolph Event Center. This year’s theme was ‘For the Love of Community.’
Danielle & Davis Stack
Nearly 300 people attended this year’s luncheon, at which UW leadership recognizes campaign achievements, and honors volunteer leadership. Also taking place was the election of local officers and board members for the 2021-2022 campaign.
Donna Singleton & Alexis Goines
During the event, Executive Director Valerie Guzman and her team recognized United Way volunteers, contributors, workplace partners and partner agency programs dedicated to UW’s mission – the education, health and financial stability of local residents.
David Fitch & Eliot Fordham
This year’s Ben C. Parks award winner was Legends Bank for going over the top with their campaign. “Legends actually made an additional donation of the money that would have gone to their annual company Christmas party,” Guzman said. “This year’s Robert R. Welch Foundation Award was presented to Jack Turner and Don Jenkins for highest individual donor. Our 2020-2021 campaign raised $1,515,893.00, a record. I just want to say thanks to the entire community for stepping up during these difficult times to help us reach our goals, and make our community whole,” said Guzman.

CLARKSVILLE POLICE DEPARTMENT Community Relations Unit
The Community Relations Unit acts as a focal point for police efforts to create and maintain a climate of cooperation and trust, to gather information about citizens' concerns, and to respond effectively to them. The mission of the Community Relations Unit is to do everything possible to keep channels of communication open between the Police Department and the public, and to assure that developing or potential problems are addressed constructively. The department’s awareness programs will focus on crime prevention based on annual crime data by crime types and geographic areas as well as address community perceptions and misperceptions of crime. The programs are designed to educate our community members on how they can lessen their chances of becoming a statistic. While these programs are only a small part of a comprehensive law enforcement effort, they focus on the prevention of crime from available crime data reports where improvement is essential to better serve its community.

“We do shoes that you’re not going to find at the regular retail stores,” Randy Watson said. “We’re looking at Jordan’s, Yeezy’s, Nike’s like Air Max and Paper Max. These shoes are wearable but they’re also collectible.
Randy Watson & Barbie Scudder
Many of the items in Watson’s store are produced in limited numbers and can be found on the booming secondary sneaker market. Supply and demand as well as social media trends determine values. Some are worth hundreds or even thousands of dollars. “No matter the value, some people still prefer to wear them,” Watson said. “We’ve been selling online for six years and finally decided to do the brick and mortar thing. Our price range usually tracks with market value so you’ll see an item’s price fluctuate from week to week. The secondary market is huge.”

Born and raised in Clarksville, Dr. Kevin Kennedy Jr. is a third generation local, small business owner in our community. His grandfather was a local barber in the St. Bethlehem area and his father has been committed to helping people in the legal profession locally for decades. Dr. Kennedy understands the privilege and responsibility of service to this community and is dedicated to providing the Clarksville and surrounding areas with the highest level of pediatric dental care as a commitment to the families here. Spring Creek Pediatric Dentistry specializes in the oral health and development of children and teens. Pediatric dentists are a selective group of dentists who have received extra, extensive training in growing healthy smiles. Clinical excellence for pediatric dentists involves advising the best time when dental treatment is recommended, what treatment should be performed, and how the treatment should be accomplished. Performing dental treatment on children too soon or too late, using less effective or outdated techniques, and neglecting the child’s overall experience can lead to a lot of frustration, anxiety, increased costs, and
unfortunately repeated or more invasive procedures later. With deep roots in our community Dr. Kennedy and his team pride themselves with a high standard of ethics for the long haul. Their definition of integrity is consistency in values and actions, and they are committed to applying this principle of integrity to the clinical and business practices. This means never recommending any treatment when it’s not necessary for the well being of your child. Integrity also means they demonstrate consistency in their billing practices and communications. They always make an extra effort to provide you with a thorough understanding of your dental benefits and help you understand why certain out of pocket costs may exist. Spring Creek Pediatric Dentistry strives to make its small place in this big world better everyday through kindness to the families they serve. From the first phone call to the explanation of dental benefits, they are committed to maintaining a kind demeanor to make the overall dental experience as positive as possible for your family. A fundamental aspect of our practice
MEDICAL PROFILE is being actively involved in the community. Dr. Kennedy and his team are fully invested in Clarksville and embrace the high expectations that come with being your family’s pediatric dental provider.
“Dr. Kennedy and his staff are amazing!! Super friendly and genuinely care about their patients. They went above and beyond to help my son with his dental emergency.” - Jennifer C. | Clarksville TN

The popular belief is that anyone with any sort of medical degree can inject. This is somewhat true, however, not everyone should. There is a such thing as qualified and a cosmetic eye. I worked in wound care for longer than I can remember. I was good at it. I taught my peers and I made the doctors above me better with no credit to myself. It wasn’t about credit. It was about patient care. Unfortunately, I went through what most nurses do, burn out! I had to make a change. Having a career as a military spouse was difficult but starting a business as one was the most challenging and rewarding thing i would ever decide to do. I had no idea it would change my life. And so, with a dream and a vision Face Fabulous was born and what started as a hobby quickly turned into a success. It wasn’t about money it was about treating patients like family. A practice Medical entities frown upon so I went in a completely different direction. I went with what I had always loved. Patients and yes needles.... I don’t make lite of this decision. I simply knew. My only job in life with the degree that I never wanted but obtained suddenly made sense. Ahhhh. Purpose. I am here to
empower women. Women like my mother, my sister, my friends and my daughters as well as myself. As women, we are forced into a society that puts us into a box of how we should look, our size, behavior and our accomplishments. However, we are not the same. None of us, not a single one. Also, what I know is that we kind of we all have crowns, diversity, struggles, insecurities, and just those moments where we are hanging by a thread. Why do I say this? I say this because I am one of you. I am no different and I am no better. I do have a crown. I have to straighten it everyday. This is what has made me. It has made me different in business and it has made me strong in business. I will always be honest and ethical and love what I do for your best interest. I have sacrificed for who I am and could not be anything without my family. I do it because I’m teaching my family that the sacrifices they made for me to live my dream was not in vain. If you are honest and treat people well, it’s never about the money it’s about the family that you build within your business. It’s personal. My loyal patients are my family. I do what I do because I love it. And that! That is what makes me Face Fabulous!

The ceremony began with remarks and presentations by MG Joseph P. (JP) McGee, Commanding General, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) & Fort Campbell to the departing Colonel Bell and his family.

Brenda Lee McCullough, Director, IMCOM-Readiness U.S. Army Installation Management Command Fort Bragg, North Carolina, was on hand for the ceremony. McCullough made light of Bell’s problemsolving approach, saying to much laughter from the audience. “We can’t provide MWR services in a Covid environment, well, let’s look at it like a 3-legged stool. Give Yourself What You Need To Be Healthy Look around. Observe the health of our nation. Are Americans getting healthier or sicker? I think you will agree that Americans overall are getting sicker.
MEDICAL PROFILE
exactly what this plant needs: water, sunlight, good nutrition, and love. We need adequate water daily. Did you know that drinking adequate water daily decreases your risk of every kind of cancer. It also decreases risk of obesity, high blood pressure, arthritis, diabetes and many other chronic conditions.
The US pours more money into healthcare per capita than any other country in the world and yet it is one of the sickest industrialized countries. Why do you think this is so? Well, to help you answer this question, I want you to picture this plant. Does it look healthy? What does it need? Water. Sunlight. Good dirt or fertilizer. Maybe some TLC. I have asked this question to thousands of people and no one has said, “this plant needs a medication to make it feel better.” Why? because a disease is not caused by a lack of a medication. A disease is caused by a lack of nutrients that the body needs to repair itself. We need
We need real food, not processed “food substances.” The more natural something is, the better it is for you. Here’s a secret, man can never do better than God. In functional medicine, we help get to root causes of most chronic diseases so that you give your body what it needs to repair and heal itself, just the way God designed it to do, when you take care of it.

Story & Photography by Tony Centonze More than one-hundred people gathered Upstairs at Strawberry Alley recently to celebrate the retirement of Carole Dorris, Leadership Clarksville’s Executive Director since its founding thirty-four years ago.
Dee & Tad Bourne
“She was hard to surprise,” Cheryl Lankford said, “Norman Quirion, Lisa McClain and myself put it together. She suspected somebody would throw a party, so when it came up I would say, surely somebody will do something, if not, we’ll just go celebrate in Nashville. Carole said, ‘oh, that’s a good idea’.’

Graduates from many classes were on hand to celebrate the lady, whom many describe as ‘inspirational’. Many chipped in for some great retirement gifts, and a video played that featured graduates, friends and family who were unable to attend.

“Carole is Leadership Clarksville,” Lankford said. “She has done so much for all of us. This is the least we could do for her.” Dorris was totally surprised. “I had no idea,” she said. “That video had me crying. I was emotional, but happy. I’m proud of what we’ve done. It couldn’t be this good without the wonderful volunteers and graduates who made it so. It was a team effort. And, the Board of Trustees just named me Director Emeritus, so they can’t get rid of me now.””

Pain of any kind may interfere with enjoyment of life or it may limit the ability to engage in normal daily activity or work. Additionally, chronic pain in the female pelvis may limit the joys of intimacy or it may prevent healthy sexual function altogether. Many women with symptoms of pelvic pain at rest, with exercise, or with intercourse suffer with undiagnosed or misdiagnosed and treatable pelvic venous disorders. Fortunately, improvements in diagnostic pelvic venous ultrasound techniques and an improved understanding of pelvic venous issues allows diagnosis of problems that often have been overlooked in the past.

pelvic venous ultrasound exams. A thorough evaluation of the likely causes of the pain (which may be more than one source) and skilled treatment of the most likely source of the pain are important as well.
Obstruction or blockage of pelvic veins is the most common venous cause of chronic pelvic pain. Treatment consists of confirmation of the diagnosis by means of venograms, injection of a drug into the veins through the leg to show the flow of blood on X-ray, and by intravascular ultrasound (IVUS). IVUS involves ultrasound imaging of the vein wall and the shape and length of the narrowing of The first problem that comes to mind relative the vein with a small catheter inside the vein. to female pelvic pain is the reproductive or Once the nature of the problem is confirmed, urinary tract. At VeinCare Centers of Tennessee in Clarksville, Tennessee, we have a team of expert nurses, vascular ultrasound technologists, an experienced Nurse Practitioner, and surgeon who see pelvic pain patients on a daily basis. We treated the patients and wrote the first peer-reviewed medical journal article about stenting compressed veins in the pelvis for chronic pelvic pain with excellent results (Daugherty and Gillespie, Journal of Vascular Surgery: Venous and Lymphatic Disorders, 2015). Most of our pelvic venous patients are treated in the state-of-the-art vascular interventional suite in our office under conscious sedation and go home about two hours after treatment. The vast majority of treated patients report complete or very substantial improvement in their pain symptoms ranging from almost immediate to a month after treatment. If you know someone who suffers from pain in the pelvis lasting longer than 6 months with no solution in sight, we offer a world class pelvic venous center in Clarksville run by nationally recognized experts in the field.

Story & Photography by Tony Centonze Clarksville Rotary Club recently held its annual Paul Harris Luncheon at First Baptist Church. It was Kimberly Wiggins’ last meeting as President. “This past year has been a whirlwind of fun,” Wiggins said. “I’ve been figuring out how to continue to serve in the midst of a pandemic. We didn’t get to stop. There were unique challenges, like Zoom being the new normal, and figuring out how to meet people where they are.” Danielle & Davis Stack
During Wiggins’ tenure, Rotary Club projects included repainting the Liberty Park playground, Stuffing the Bus for the CMC Education Foundation, and a variety of other endeavors that directly benefited the people of Clarksville-Montgomery County. “I learned a lot,” Wiggins said. “For example, we can get away from the status quo, ‘used to’ doesn’t mean ‘have to’. We can be innovative and creative, and even more inclusive. We have seventy-seven members and we were named club of the year for our district.” President Elect Chris Buerck said, “What we do, changes with the needs of the community. That’s what Rotary is here for, to meet the needs of our community. Our club has a great voice, and I plan to continue this group’s legacy of being there when our community needs us. Service above self is our motto. We’re going to keep that going. We’ll be announcing some big plans soon.”

Story & Photography by Tony Centonze Big Brothers Big Sisters of Clarksville recently held its annual Bowl For Kids Sake Bankers Challenge at the Pinnacle Family Entertainment Center. “Tonight is the Bankers Challenge portion of our annual fundraiser,” Chris Buerck said. “Bowl For Kids Sake is a community-wide effort, but tonight is when we come together with just members of our local financial institutions. They have all worked together to form teams. Those teams compete with other teams at their own bank, as well as with teams from other banks. They get pretty competitive, trying to see who can raise the most money for BBBS.” Buerck says the Bankers Challenge has become quite successful. She has plans to maybe offer similar challenges to other Clarksville professionals. “This is a huge deal,” Buerck said. “The Bankers Challenge can raise as much or more than our entire community challenge. We are so thankful for how our local banks support mentoring in this community. Things are going well. We beat last year’s totals, and we beat the goal we had set for this year’s Bankers Challenge, by raising $25,766. Of that total, F & M Bank raised $13,433.”

A series of tents were set up for an afternoon Pinning of Wings ceremony honoring Vietnam Veterans. The front nine rows were reserved for the soldiers who would receive their long-overdue Air Assault wings. In August, 1968 the Screaming Eagles shed their parachutes in favor of helicopter-borne operations, earning a new designation – the 101st Airborne Division (Airmobile). In February, 1974, then MG Sidney Berry signed Division General Order 179 authorizing wear of the new Airmobile (later Air Assault) qualification badge.
CSM Veronica Knapp & MG JP McGee
Retired MG Brian Winski was instrumental in organizing this honorarium for Vietnam Veterans then- assigned to the Division. At the ceremony, more than 450 were in attendance. They were supported by hundreds of family members and friends.

Thanks to the efforts of the Montgomery County Veterans Coalition and State Representative Jason Hodges, the State of Tennessee has taken steps through newly passed legislation to encourage veterans to take advantage of the opportunities to enjoy the great outdoors at Tennessee State parks. HB322, sponsored by Representative Jason Hodges and Dr. Richard Briggs, was signed into law by Governor Bill Lee in May. The bill as passed gives Tennessee veteran residents with a 100% disability rating a 50% discount on all lodging in state parks, to include cabins, hotels, and campgrounds. “This legislation is an important part of building strong families and more stable environments for veteran households”, according to MCVC Executive Director Sherry Pickering. One study by researchers from the VA and the University of Michigan showed a positive correlation between outdoor activities and long-term psychological well-being. Veterans were surveyed one week before, one week after, and one month after a wilderness experience. Physical and mental health issues that were interfering with their daily lives were reported by more than half the participants prior to the study. Two thirds of the participants reported a 10% or greater improvement in the reduction in their stress levels, social functioning, and an overall sense of well-being one week after the outdoor activity.
These results echo those of another study conducted by Dr. Jennifer Romesser, a clinical psychologist with the VA Salt Lake City Health Care System in Utah. Romesser says, “Nature can help reconnect Veterans with the experience of positive emotion and develop a renewed sense of awe and appreciation for the outdoors.” That’s exactly what Pickering hopes. “We need to get veterans out and active. Going to state parks is a way for them to be in an environment in which they’re comfortable. And with the discount, even veterans on disability can afford to enjoy a state park,” Pickering adds. “This part of a larger effort to reduce our devastating veteran suicide number. This program allows our veterans to come to our parks to reconnect with their families in an environment that promotes peace and tranquility.” In 2019, Tennessee was home to more than 460,000 veterans, and 21,000 of those have a 100% disability rating. While the new legislation could amount to approximately $40,000 in lost revenue for state parks, that is easily offset by the more than $2.9 billion contributed annually into the state’s economy by veterans, with an additional $2.8 million from education, vocation, and employment benefits. The MCVC would like to give a special thanks to Legislative Liaison Ronnie Glenn, Communication and Education Specialist Savannah Renslow, MCVC member Curtis Driver, and Senator Dr. Richard Briggs.

During this year’s Week of the Eagles, Major General JP McGee, commanding General, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) and Fort Campbell led a Division Review, which was attended by hundreds at the Division Parade Field. It was an impressive sight to see, as thousands of troops were lined-up in formation. Guests stood for Ruffles and Flourishes, and then a driveby inspection of the troops took place, with MG McGee being joined by two WWII Veterans. After the National Anthem and invocation, MG McGee and CSM Veronica Knapp were on the field for a presentation of awards, including presentations to the 2021 winners in the Best Air Assault Competition. MG McGee’s remarks were followed by a reading of the Soldier’s Creed, a full Pass In Review, and an Aviation Fly-Over. The ceremony concluded with a performance of the Screaming Eagles Song and The Army Song.
