Gregorio Prieto Museum If you want to visit a typical house from La Mancha, you should visit a house during the XVI and XVII centuries. There is a central patio, wooden structure… Gregorio Prieto was a Spanish painter born in Valdepeñas who belonged to the “Generación del 27”. Here you can find the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Asunción (XIII century) you can see the church with Gothic style, the town hall, its beautiful fountain… Wine Museum You can find this interesting museum in the former winery of Leocadio Morales. VALDEPEÑAS WINE It is impossible to talk about Valdepeñas without talking about its wine! Valdepeñas is a wine-producing zone in the south of Castilla-La Mancha. Valdepeñas is a historic wine-growing area, with a long tradition of supplying wine to Madrid and Valencia. During XVI Valdepeñas Wine was the most appreciated wine in the Spanish court of the Austrian in Madrid. The best period for Valdepeñas wine was by the end of XIXth century when Phylloxera appeared in France. They could take the French market. Valdepeñas is a wine-making country with an excellent Designation of Origin.
Valdepeñas is a town in the province of Ciudad Real, CastileLa Mancha, Spain. It has a lot of localities around it. The name of Valdepeñas means “Valley of Rocks” because it is located near the Jabalon river just bordering on the plain south of La Mancha.
