ummer is here so this month there is a distinctly aquatic feel to the magazine as we uncover the lost world of Atlantis. Fact or fiction? Well, after the awful events of the Asian tsunami last year, it is easy to see how a giant tidal wave could have wiped out an entire city. Despite the fact much material on Atlantis is merely supposition, we delve into the origins of the lost civilization (P18), and the fascinating planet theory (P22), as well as what life may have been like (P35). The notion of an ideal world inhabited by a spiritually-enlightened race is one we all aspire to, but the story of Atlantis also holds an important omen when it comes to harnessing and utilizing power, as

Enjoyable introduction Thank you for introducing me to ancient cultures – I find it very enjoyable. I have been interested in magic and ghosts since about 8 years of age. I’m now 12 and intend on carrying on collecting Vision. The other day I bought a drink which I had never tried before. I hadn’t opened it and no-one else in the room had. When I breathed out I felt as though I could taste it and didn’t like it. So I tried the drink and it tasted how I thought it would – I didn’t like it! Thank you for helping me open my mind and my spiritual side. Carol-Ann Coop, Staines, age 12.

we see in our feature on the importance of crystals to the city’s inhabitants (P50). One direction on the path to enlightenment is to attend a workshop on connecting with angels and spirit guides, such as the one I attended recently held by Doreen Virtue and Gordon Smith in Edinburgh (see my special report and interviews with them on P31). But better yet, why not go and see new documentary What the Bleep do We Know?! in cinemas. This is the perfect way to start your spiritual journey – read our interview with one of the filmmakers (P40) and our review (P76). So celebrate summer with a spiritual new you!

Breathe easily I feel that I have just got to write and say thanks for giving us Vision and for giving me the vision to see things in a totally new way. I have read every copy since the first issue with the free CD. I love playing it at the end of the day to help me unwind. I am sick with chronic breathing problems and the CD helps me control my breathing. As a result I get a fairly good night’s sleep. Thanks. John Taylor, Grimsby.

Vibrant Visionaries I have just finished reading the third issue of Vision. I love it. The article I always read first and enjoy the most is Nance Turner’s Visionaries article. It is well written and takes the horror of ghosts away. I find an underlying sense of humour running through it which brings a sense of normality to the subject. I hope Nance Turner features in your future issues for a long time to come. I’m looking forward to next month’s issue. Keep up the good work, well done. Carole Johnson, Acomb. My own pagan path I’ve recently discovered Vision and was greatly heartened by the pagan special in the March edition. I’m struggling with my own spiritual identity at present, trying to find definition. I’ve felt for some time a strong pull toward the pagan path. Perhaps it’s my own denial or uncertainty from preventing me from committing more fully. I felt comfortable reading the articles and completing the Do you walk the pagan path? test – it was yes to all the questions – so I think I’ll just have to stop faffing around and get on with being pagan in a more conscious way! Clare Sheridan met haunted location photographer Simon Marsden (left).

T

he camera never lies and if that’s true, Simon Marsden’s unearthly mono landscapes must be the closest anyone has come to snapping the ghostly world which runs parallel to our own. Terrifying screams, eerie echoes and unseen malevolent forces are just some of the phenomena photographer Simon Marsden has experienced in his work. Many people would shudder at the thought of visiting haunted houses, let alone spend hours photographing them, but spooky sites around Europe are regular models for Simon’s camera lens. He uses infrared 35mm film to

produce the grainy, ethereal quality which haunt many of his shots. His latest, This Spectred Isle: A Journey Through Haunted England, charts haunted sites around England, and he is currently painstakingly researching spooky sites in France for his next publication. Simon was exposed to the supernatural at an early age - he grew up in haunted manor houses in Lincolnshire. He was also inspired by spooky stories told by his father as well as literature by the likes of Mary Shelley, Bram Stoker and Edgar Allen Poe. It is easy to see how these authors fired his Thetford Priory, Norfolk. Simon captured a skull-like face which could not be seen by the naked eye on the bottom left.

imagination…just look at any one of his 9 other books such as The Journal of a Ghosthunter or The Twilight Hour, and his haunting images and spine-tingling prose leap off the page. “I didn’t see a ghost as a child. In my bedroom there was a room that had a priest’s hole in it, half way up the wall. I was terrified at night. I kept thinking someone was going to come out. “Everybody said the house was haunted. My father said that one of the pictures of a lady on our wall was the portrait of a ghost. I was 5. I used to pass the picture on my way to bed. I developed a real and lasting fear of ghosts. I sometimes wonder whether my lifelong obsession with photographing haunted sites is my way of trying to exorcise this fear.” Still a resident of Lincolnshire, Simon’s passion for taking pictures of haunted houses has taken him from Ireland to Venice, and even the creepy landscape of Transylvania in search of the inspiration behind Bram Stoker’s Count Dracula: “In the case of Dracula, perhaps the real Vlad Dracul was worse than what Bram Stoker dreamt up,” he said. Simon stumbled upon photography when his father gave him a camera for his 21st birthday. Even then he tried to capture ghosts: “I had a huge collection of paperbacks with stories of

ghosts in them and I cut out figures from the front of the books and took this set of photos in the garden - a tableaux with my first reel of film.” It was while he worked as an apprentice in London, that he was introduced to infrared film. “Infrared film shows what I want to show - it’s half way between a photo and an etching. They show mystery. The supernatural is something science cannot prove. I think the nature of the supernatural is that we push it away. We are frightened of nature which was used by our ancestors - they embraced it and listened to it. “People are looking for something spiritual now. Science isn’t enough. I usually find that people who tell true ghost stories, don’t want to talk about it that much. They have had that experience, accepted it and they don’t have to prove it to anyone else. It’s enough for them,” he said. Although he didn’t see a ghost as a child, he has since: “While taking photographs for The Haunted Realm, I was knocked flying by an unseen force near the Rollright Stones in Oxfordshire.

My camera was torn from my neck and later I discovered a bruise the length of my arm that bizarrely didn’t hurt.” Since then a ghostly voice has been heard by listeners to a radio show Simon took part in last year in Ireland, and he has also heard an eerie voice himself while filming his DVD The Twilight Hour: “We were standing downstairs in the main hall of this house trying to get a shot of me going up the stairs. Suddenly there was this horrible moan and the crew all looked at each other. What we heard sounded inhuman and we knew there was no-one else there! It was definitely a woman’s voice.” Further investigation in the local area revealed that last owner had shot herself. “Sometimes I wonder if it’s my presence that activates these phenomena,” said Simon. But despite his enthusiasm for all things paranormal and the ethereal essence of his shots, Simon said that he is not out to convert the sceptics: “I never try to prove the existence of ghosts. You get distracted by getting into a argument if you take a picture that looks like a

ghost and publish it - and for the rest of your life you are distracted by this one argument. “Over the 30 years that I have been photographing haunted sites, probably 5-6,000 to date, I have captured things on film that I can’t explain - some things that quite frighten me. Sometimes other people see them before I do. One such place was Thetford Priory: “I captured something odd. It looks like a skull. I’m not terribly aware looking through a lense - I’m looking for composition, not what’s going on in the bottom left-hand side of the lense.” And he apparently has enough such material for an entire book..: “Rest assured you will see it all. Even if it’s left behind and I’m not here - it will come back to haunt people!” Simon’s new book This Spectred Isle: A Journey Through Haunted England (English Heritage publishing) is out now. So what is a guardian angel?

Everyone wants to know about guardian angels but what are they? Author Jacky Newcomb answers your questions..

Angels are recognised by most religions as protectors and custodians of humankind. The word angel means messenger and guardian. There are many references to angels in legends and fables and angels appear outside of religious beliefs as well as inside. They are considered Ethereal.

What is the difference between angels and archangels? Traditionally, angels are split up into spheres or levels (sometimes called the angelic hierarchy). The word ‘angel’ is a collective term for all of the celestial beings within these tiers but angel is also the name of the lower sphere, those closest to humankind whom we know as guardian angels. Archangels are on a higher level than the guardian angels and have different tasks and roles relating to more global issues and wider human challenges.

Angels appear in different ways to different people. They are likely to appear to us in a way which brings us most comfort.

Why do children see angels more than adults?

Do we all have our own guardian angels?

Children are believed to be able to perceive a wider spectrum of light than adults so this could be one of the reasons. Small children are not aware of the fact that most people don’t see angels so will just say what they see! Of course many adults also see angels too but mainly this is when they are unconscious or on the verge of sleep or during times of crisis.

Yes. We are all watched over by spiritual beings including both angels and spirit guides.

How do I communicate with my own guardian angels?

What is the difference between a guardian angel and a spirit guide? Angels are beings of pure love and light energy. Spirit guides are advanced souls whom have previously lived human lives. Angels take more of a guardianship role whereas spiritual guides have a better understanding of the problems of paying the household bills! Together they make a great team!

Do all angels have wings and halos? Most of us imagine angels as human looking figures with wings and halos but religious references and traditional materials suggest that angels are very different. The Archangel Gabriel is said to have 140 wings. Other angels are said to have numerous pairs of eyes or look like various beasts with hooves and so on.

8 Vision 5

Your angels are already communicating with YOU, but most of the time we are not aware of this. What some people call ‘intuition’ or ‘instinct’ is what other people call their guardian angel. Their messages are more likely to arrive as inspirational thoughts and feelings. If you ask your angel for help, then usually it arrives in the form of encouraging ideas. Another way that a message reaches us is through the words of others. That stranger at the bus stop may have no idea that they have just passed on a life-changing message for you and even less idea where their own thoughts came from! Other messages can come in dreams and visions or particular words can jump out from books. People pick up messages from tunes on the radio and so on.

How do I find out my angel’s name? Your angels don’t really mind what you

call them. If you feel more comfortable using the name of a traditional angel like Gabriel or Michael, then go with that. If a more modern name sounds right then use that. You can also ask your angels if they will bring you a name in a dream or meditation.

What are the most important things to remember when working with angels? It may sound obvious but we actually have to ask our angels for their help. Angels are not permitted to interfere with our life path without our permission (except in some emergencies). No fancy words are needed. Just remember to say thank you, as if the action had already been completed. Jacky Newcomb is the co-presenter of the DVD Angels (New World Music - pictured below), and the author of An Angel Treasury. She has also recorded two guided meditation CDs Meet your Guardian Angel and Healing with your Guardian Angel (Paradise Music). Create your own angel affirmations Affirmations are a form of reinforcement of a positive thought and we can use repetition of words and phrases to assist us in growth and confidence in many different areas of our lives. Asking your own guardian angel to help you to support your own ideas is one of the best ways that they can aid us in our own personal development. The easiest way to do this is to ask yourself the following questions: What do I want to achieve? What outcome am I looking for? How would I like to do this? How can others help me? What sort of assistance do I need? Angels can help in so many ways. They can develop new career paths, changes in our physical appearance and personal relationships.Write down a positive statement about what you want to achieve. The idea is

to write it as if it had already happened. Make sure your intent is clear and ethical and written in the present tense: “I am fit and well’; “I am a confident person’; “I have a thriving career and am moving forward in a way that makes me happy”. See the goal happening to you. Know this path has already started and write in the present tense ie ‘I am’ rather than ‘I want to be’ or ‘I wish I were’. Put your statements down on paper. Read them every morning when you get up and last thing at night before you go to bed. Turn them into your screen saver on your computer or write it on the outside of your cheque book. Anywhere you can remind yourself of your goals on a regular basis. If you feel as if your statement has become boring to you or you are no longer excited by your ideas then change your script or re-write it in some way. Take control of your destiny and at each stage ask your angels to help you.

ello again and welcome to another vigil, by us, The Visionaries. This month we joined Andy Woolley in Stratford-uponAvon, in The Falstaffs Experience. This time we’ve got a bumper edition for you - we got lots and lots of information, as there was a lot of Spirit who wanted to talk to us all, but alas, we have decided to include only the few who managed to make the biggest impression. We later found out that these were the ones that sometimes had to have their own way! So read on and enjoy the experience‌

The other William tended to make sure that staff and customers were taken care of, although he liked to play tricks on people, just for fun! I felt a strong connection with him to Henry VIII, and he also told me to mention the names Charles and Dickie?

John Davies

Above: Di at the top of the ‘Plague Cottage’ area. Below: The bottom of the haunted staircase. Could the circled object be a spirit light?

William/William Shreyve Before I go any further I have to explain that we encountered two Williams during our vigil! We figured out that William Shreyve (the late owner of the adjacent Shrieves House) was very respectful to all, but the other William had no respect for women or why we were there, as Georgia soon found out! Georgia was stood outside when she picked up on killing. She got pain, agony and the name William. He was very cocky and would resort to killing (not by his own hands) to get what he wanted. It appears he had no conscience and tried to strangle Georgia just to shut her up! He said that he was hiding in Stratford, having fled from London, but would not say why. He died of stomach cancer, and said he rotted away inside. He didn’t start out as an evil man, but was bitter and twisted about something to do with love. His heartache it appeared hastened his death - he lost the will to live.

He believes he was cursed for an evil deed he did! Di picked up on a male member of the gentry, who walked up and down alongside the barn. She got the impression that he was just reliving and replaying events that had happened to him when he lived. I picked up on another William when I sat inside the entrance. I got the feeling that he was quite respectful, and he told me that he was the one who kept all the other spirits in check. He liked Andy (the manager of the museum) and followed him around. He also made sure that everyone was protected from the “other one”. I did pick up on the other William - he made me feel sick - he was angry about us being there. He had no conscience, and seemed to pick on people for no reason. He hated women and children, and did really nasty things to people he didn’t like.

Di picked up a man called John, who had a bald head, a goatee beard and was short-sighted. He was in his 40s and said he had something to do with an incident near the front gates of the building. Georgia sensed a man who was tall for his time, had big hands, no remorse, fear or morals and was popular, but only as a result of fear. He battered a lot of people, maybe even murdered. He was not smartly dressed and wore a long brown coat. I picked up on John when I was still talking to the two Williams - he got too close and made me burst into tears - the feeling was not nice. He was an evil, evil man when he was alive. He didn’t want us there either, but luckily for me, William was able to keep him at a distance - although that did not deter him. The feelings of what he felt and did to people made my stomach turn, and he seemed to delight in causing grief to all that tried to stop him. He also liked to play tricks, but not of a jokey nature. I felt that he had no morals of any kind and would resort to violence to get his way. Before he turned to leave, he did show me something curious - he was holding a noose in his hands, and laughing!

Jane Ward Georgia picked up on a lady called Jane in the garden area of the barn. She felt a lot of confusion with her and her situation. She said that she was a pagan, but wanted to know why she was persecuted? Georgia could see Jane being pushed, and felt her falling. Georgia also felt a lot of pain. Di picked up on a Jane in the staff room. She felt very detached and couldn’t understand why we were all looking at her. She was a very confused lady, and didn’t quite realise that she was dead. Di also sensed her sitting at a knitting yarn/wheel. I picked up on Jane outside and later upstairs. She was still confused and I felt

swing up and down on the chains outside. He didn’t seem too bothered about the negative entities in the building!

The gause meter

Image 4 (above).

This gave out an interesting reading. When Georgia and Andy were stood near the front gates, the gause meter went haywire! Rachel was operating it and it only seemed to occur when John Davies was there, and only when Georgia talked to him. The reading started low at 2/10 which indicated not much activity. Then it rose to 8/10, down to 6/10 in Georgia’s presence and the same when Andy was there. But when Rachel moved to the door, it rose again to 8/10! Rachel put it on the floor, but the reading went so high it turned itself off! Of course electric

Image 3 (above).

cables were noted about 2 feet away, but they only got a 2 to 4/10 reading. The electrics did not run overhead or under the floor - the cobbles were centuries old. The highest readings were where the doors joined - but seemed to follow Georgia at one point, Andy at another point, and then in a stone garden statue of a Great Dane dog twice! Strangely no anomalies were recorded on film or camera while this was happening.

The Tavern/upstairs This is where most of the activity was - it was like a doorway between us and Spirit. There were at least 40 waiting to talk to us and the energy was amazing. It was when I was in the Civil War room that we picked up a vortex on camera (see images abbove). I picked up on Jane

that she wanted to tell me something. She looked old, tired and sickly and wanted to know why we were there.

Séance The séance was conducted upstairs in the Tavern. The atmosphere was unbelievably cold throughout the event and nobody could keep warm. Di felt very uneasy about a male spirit that was hanging around, and because of that she wouldn’t let him near her. It seemed whoever was there wanted to cause tension between all of us. At certain points one of us would snap at another not normally like us at all! There was a troublemaker around and we think it was John Davies! Georgia got a young boy through who liked to jump out of the hatchet, and

again and I could see around her some kind of industrial workplace which included a knitting wheel. I felt this lady being pushed and could taste mud and blood in my mouth - I also felt as though I had been hit over the head (could this have been Jane?). We thought the vortex we picked up on camera may have been a hand over the lens, but the photographer was so cold that they were wearing pink gloves! It could not have been dust as it was so large and dense. To be sure, we took 4 photos, one after the other. It didn’t surprise us that much as this building was a hive of Spirit activity, and they enjoyed being there and ‘helping business’, as they put it! There are, of course, many others that we didn’t get to speak to. Di picked up on a young child called Lucy, who by all accounts was quite delightful, if a little mischievous. There was a gentleman with no name, who I picked up on upstairs. He was hit over the head and left to die - when he came through he caused me such pain that I couldn’t see straight for quite a while. And Georgia even saw a little boy at one point. There was so much more to see here, that I think that we will have to go back at a later date to see what or who else we can pick up on! If you are in Stratford and fancy a good day out, visit The Falstaffs Experience, and see for yourself or should that be, feel it for yourself, and then let us know what you pick up! We would like to thank Andy Woolley and the museum. Turn to page 42 for your chance to WIN FREE ENTRY into the museum!

NEXT MONTH: The Visionaries visit Mother Shipton’s Cave and the Petrifying Well, Knaresborough, North Yorkshire. Would YOU like the chance to take part in a Visionaries’ vigil? Do you have the nerve to stay up all night in a haunted location? If you think you’ve got what it takes, email your reasons to visionaries@visionmagazine.uk.com and you could become part of the team for a night!

History of The Shrieves House Barn by PSI investigator Rachel Lacy

William Shreyve built the neighbouring Shrieves House. He was one of King Henry VIII’s archers and served in conflicts both at home and abroad. The Courtyard Entrance oak gates each weigh over a ton, and probably date from the 18th century. The carriageway is 17th century and made of granite cobbles. In the 1960s a mysterious man left through these doors and crossed the road to enter the Rose and Crown pub: the man wore a long black coat and wide-brimmed hat. He was seen again by staff in 1999. He is believed to be the ghost of an unpleasant character who collected ‘debts’ from the pubs, who was eventually stabbed to death on the street just outside the doors. The Shrieves House Barn entrance was close to an 18th century slum that was originally opposite Shrieves House, which housed a resident known as The Witch of Sheep Street. Jane Ward (seen by the Visionaries at the entrance to the barn) was a frail old woman and most likely mentally ill, who, as a result of this, was condemned as a witch by local man John Davies. He claimed she sent two evil spirits to attack his household - which disturbed his sickly daughter. When the police wouldn’t help, he carried out a popular belief of drawing first blood to break a curse: he slashed her across the face. She died a few days later. He served six months in prison. Reformation pilgrims’ souls are said to inhabit The Haunted Chamber (just inside the entrance of the barn), and several Catholic priests were said to have hidden in secret rooms in the house for fear of persecution under the reign of Elizabeth I. This spot is where we caught an anomaly on camera. However, it didn’t record as the battery failed just as

we saw it. Battery drain is supposedly common in this area during investigations. The Plague Cottage greets visitors at the top of the first staircase, commemorating the arrival in Stratford of the Bubonic Plague in the 16th century. It was thought to have killed several hundred people in the town. The next big outbreak of the disease was in the 17th century. The Reception of the barn includes a model of William Shreyve, based on sightings of a ghostly figure seen walking up the Haunted Staircase, believed to be the man himself. At the foot of the Haunted Staircase a soldier was strangled to death in a tavern brawl with other soldiers in the 17th century. At that time the property was used as a tavern. His body was found by a female relative several days later. Her spirit is said to haunt the rooms at the foot of the second staircase, in the Curiosity Shop area - she emotes a sense of overwhelming sadness which only female staff and visitors can feel. Above the Plague Cottage is the ‘hanging beam’, believed to have been used by a Royalist spy during the English Civil War. He took his own life to escape further torture by his captors. His body is reputedly still under the floor, bent double, close to the figure of William Shreyve. Lucy is a playful 8-year-old spirit who was the pickpocket niece of a serving maid when the building was a tavern. She escaped a fire in the building in 1614 but severely burned her hands and feet, which became infected, turned into septicaemia and sent her into a coma. Her family sold her body to medical science, believing she was dead. However, when the doctor began dissecting her, she came round and died from the shock.

Diana Jarvis investigates the strange phenomenon of the Bermuda Triangle.

T

he phenomena of the so-called Bermuda Triangle has kept us enthralled for decades. The Bermuda Triangle is an imaginary triangle that can be drawn in the Atlantic Ocean between Miami/Fort Lauderdale, Puerto Rico and Bermuda, and it is within these boundaries that strange and inexplicable disappearances have been reported time and time again. The area is actually less than an thousand miles wide on any one side, so to have so many stories concentrated in one area is notable in itself, but of course, it is often the nature of the disappearances that intrigue us so. The Triangle was first mentioned by George X Sands, who wrote a small magazine article recounting the mysteries surrounding some ships and also the famed Flight 19. It was originally called ‘The Devil’s Triangle’. It has been described by a number of authors as varying in shape, but nothing has stuck in the mind of the public as much as ‘Bermuda Triangle’. In 1974 Charles Berlitz published his book The Bermuda Triangle and it was a runaway success, selling approximately 5,000,000 copies in hardback - setting in stone the epithet and at the same time making the Bermuda Triangle a household name. There is even speculation that the ruins

14 Vision 5

of Atlantis lie on the ocean bed of the area which the triangle spans. Could strange energies emanating from that affect the region? On Halloween 1991, radar controllers were amazed after a plane disappeared from their screen, moments after the crew requested an ascent. Every other plane on the radar seemed fine and all traffic, bar this one plane, continued their journeys as before. The plane that went missing was a Grumman Cougar jet, piloted by John Verdi. Both he and his co-pilot were en-route to Tallahassee and had asked for permission to ascend, which had been granted. As they ascended, they suddenly disappeared from the screen. Controllers called them up and got nothing more from them on radio or radar again. There had been no Mayday signal and the radar had not picked up a descent at all (i.e. they had not fallen into the sea). They just vanished. Don Henry also had a strange experience while travelling to the Miami area with his tug, the Sea Phantom Exploration. In tow they had a barge on a 600ft towline. That afternoon Don heard a ruckus from the bridge and went out to investigate. When he got there, he could see that the compass was spinning clockwise and none of the crew had any idea why. It just kept going round and

round. At the same time, communication was lost, lights went out and the generators went down too they continued to run but produced no energy at all. Don went to check on the barge and although visibility had been good, he could no longer see a horizon line and noticed that the sea was full of foam, as was the sky - it was hard to tell the difference between the two! He looked for the barge, and was amazed to find that it appeared to have gone. There had been no snap of the line, nothing. The line was still there and it looked like it had something on the end because it was taut, but he couldn’t see the barge, only fog where the barge had been - and a totally localised fog at that! Don was pretty scared, so he

decided to go full throttle to get out of the area. The line held him back. The ship did eventually pull out and the line came out of the fog. The barge was still intact, although he had been unable to see it before. When he got back to land he found that the barge was very warm, much warmer than normal, which he was unable to logically explain. To this day he’s convinced that he had a run-in with the forces of the Bermuda Triangle. Naturally, there are a number of scientific theories for the countless stories of disappearances in the Triangle. Some of the most popular are: Subterranean landslides open up beds of methane hydrate, which reduces the density of the water. This would make

ships sink and as the gas is combustible, could easily blow any vessels or aeroplanes to pieces; A complex theory about Magnetic North that allegedly explains how ships and aeroplanes get lost. It doesn’t, however, explain how they disappear without trace; A type of ‘wormhole’ on earth, known as a ‘vortex’ that can transport whoever or whatever stumbles into it to somewhere totally different; Aliens! I contacted Gian Quasar, a leading authority on the Bermuda Triangle (www.bermuda-triangle.org and author of Into The Bermuda Triangle (McGraw-Hill). He states that no-one knows the exact number of

disappearances, but the best guess is around the 8,000 mark. He is keen to emphasise that these are not ‘accidents’ but disappearances. He is a thorough researcher and found, for example, that between two coast guard districts (one of which covered the Bermuda Triangle) there were thousands of accidents in the same period of time. However, there were 6 or 7 disappearances in one district and 30 disappearances of planes and possibly twice that number of boats in the Triangle district! So do we know what causes the disappearances? No. We are still no closer to really knowing if there is some type of anomaly out there. There are lots of theories, but no conclusive proof. Is it all just coincidence? We await an answer.

Diana Jarvis explains your weird experiences. Haunted house I know that our house is haunted. It was built in 1928 and has a lovely friendly feel to it. But when anything happens I never have a camera. Objects move. Our son has seen an old lady in a nightie and hair net in my bedroom - she disappeared. Family members get a feeling of dread on the stairs and if you look up, sometimes someone looks down. In January I just felt I wanted to take some pictures and started snapping. This is the result. What do you think? Helen, Telford. Diana says: A lot of readers will be unimpressed with this picture. Although a dusty environment, the image of this sphere does not easily fit dust, moisture, pollen et al. I think that you have captured a ‘real’ orb, Helen and it’s a bit of a coincidence that it appears in one of the places that people have experienced spirit activity! Thank you for the other photos, which we don’t have space to print, but which helped me reach my conclusion. Well done!

Otherworldly resident It was teatime, I was in the kitchen and I saw an apparition. I had my back to the kitchen door. I turned around and a woman walked past the kitchen door. All I saw was her bottom half. She wore a long skirt, nothing like people wear today. I asked her to leave because I was so freaked out. Sometime after Christmas I asked her was she still here and about 2 to 3 weeks later I had a dream that she was stood at the top of my stairs. I believed in ghosts before, but this has changed my life. Helen, Liverpool. Diana says: Your story is not unique. Many people have actually seen what they would term a ghost - that is what appears to be a human being, but is not actually ‘there’. It seems that she wants you to know she is there (communication via dreams is not uncommon) and she does seem friendly towards you. Perhaps she is a previous resident of your house or a house that was on the site, or maybe she is a distant ancestor, but whatever she is, it seems she is happy to co-habit. Keep talking to her and you may find out more.

Protective angels? I was driving along and said an invocation to the angels for protection whilst travelling. I noticed a small pingpong-sized coloured ball (a dull reddish/gold) moving around the footwell of the car. I don’t have any dangly things in the car, and I wasn’t wearing any type of jewellery that could have reflected light. It stayed and then disappeared, but came back again before my journey’s end. I felt really heart-warmed to think it could be something spiritual. Could you please explain what this could have been? Karen, Northamptonshire. Diana says: It may have been an orb. They come in many colours and are alleged to be Spirit. I try to answer letters based on experience rather than gut instinct, but I strongly feel that this was a nature spirit. Some belief systems say nature spirits work with angels! Red would suggest a fire spirit, or Salamander. Fire is associated with creative energy, physical energy (you said it was moving fast!), sexual energy and can also act as a protective force. The Archangel Michael rules over fire spirits. It seems as though your request was granted!?

If you would like to share your experiences, send them to Diana Jarvis at the Vision address or email: experiencesexplained@visionmagazine.uk.com Please give as many details as possible - tell us what you saw, how you felt, and what you sensed etc. We reserve the right to edit letters.

Hypnotherapist and complementary therapist Carole Chui investigates the fact behind the lost city of Atlantis.

T

he ancient lost lands have a strong hold on our imagination - Mu, Lemuria, Lyonesse, Antilia - but of all those continents, Atlantis is the queen. Atlantis, lost in some ancient cataclysm, seems closer to our reality in the aftermath of the Asian tsunami - another reminder that continuation of everyday life is not inevitable. In our search for Atlantis, we need to examine the work of Athens philosopher Plato, 428-347BC, student of Socrates. In Plato’s dialogue Timaeus, he states that the philosopher Solon (640560BC) learned about Atlantis from an Egyptian priest, and passed it on to a friend of Critias’ great-grandfather. In this story an aggressive invasion by Atlantis into the Mediterranean was stopped by Athens 9,000 years before Solon’s time, and then earthquakes and floods damaged Athens, but wholly destroyed Atlantis “in a day and a night”. In the dialogue Critias - which frustratingly ends, unfinished, mid-sentence - we find detail relating to Atlantis’ rulers, its geography and climate, its people and its cities. The capital with its situation on sea-canals, its fountains and its horse racing track is particularly vividly conveyed. Plato said that Atlantis, bigger than Asia and Libya combined, lay beyond the Pillars of Hercules (the Straits of Gibraltar) and from Atlantis sailors could reach the whole opposite continent “which surrounds the ocean”. We know of no continent surrounding the ocean, but in Plato’s worldview it existed and Asia and Libya were different to our maps. This description should put Atlantis outside the Mediterranean

18 Vision 5

(“beyond the Pillars of Hercules”), and before one reaches the Americas (the land surrounding the ocean). Many have dismissed Plato’s Atlantis as fiction. They note the lack of earlier – and indeed later - mention of Atlantis. Yet original fiction is quite a recent idea; older writers, including Shakespeare, were admired for their ability to take existing stories and add their own touch. In any event, not all ancient writings survived, and we cannot therefore be sure none existed. Furthermore, there actually are hints to Atlantis in the work of other old writers such as Herodotus. There are tales of great floods in most cultures, including Noah’s in the Old Testament. There are also tantalising hints of lost nations.

I believe that Plato, working in his tradition, took a known story and gave it his own spin. Plato was an Athenian and he was concerned about the nature of the ideal state. In his version, an Atlantis grown aggressive was stopped in its tracks by an idealised earlier Athens (Timaeus), and Atlantis, having once been a modelcivilisation, became degenerate (Critias). When Europe reached the Americas, many (including British alchemist Dr John Dee) believed that Atlantis had been rediscovered. In the 19th Century, it was an American ex-congressman who became the godfather of Atlantis research. Ignatius Donnelly began systematically delving into the Atlantis

question. His book Atlantis: The Antediluvian World was published in 1882 in a world which had seen great discoveries in Egypt, and the astonishing emergence in archaeology of proof that the Homeric stories were based on fact. If Troy proved real after all why not Atlantis? Donnelly, based on his reading of Plato, took the view that Atlantis was a series of islands in the Atlantic, rather than a single landmass. Edgar Cayce “the sleeping prophet” (1877-1945) also took an interest in Atlantis and led a more mystical line of research. There was another rush of interest in the 1960s and 70s, with writers like Charles Berlitz, who reviewed the research thus far and suggested more theories of their own.

The literature continues to build. Over the years there has been no shortage of theories about Atlantis, and it has been placed just about everywhere in the world; the Canaries, the Azores, and the Bahamas have all featured. Atlantis has been placed in the Andes, near Lake Titicaca, in Nigeria or off the coast of Cyprus, or Cuba. It has even come to Britain and Greenland. The most interesting idea of recent years is that Antarctica is Atlantis. When the Sky Fell by Rand and Rose Flem-Ath bases this theory on ancient maps, which appear to show Antarctica without ice. Detail is shown which requires modern techniques, or a previously ice-free Antarctica. The explanation is a shift of the earth’s crust

so that Atlantis/ Antarctica slipped from a warmer zone to its present polar position. The last such shift is timed at 9,600BC - close as these things go to the disaster which sank Atlantis in Plato’s account. Over the years there have been many theories, including one which challenged Plato by suggesting he carelessly added an extra zero to the date. A time of 900 years before Solon fits neatly with the volcanic eruption which destroyed Thera (now Santorini) in about 1500BC. It was believed this precipitated the destruction of the Minoan civilisation, and fuelled the Atlantis legend. The resultant siting of Atlantis within the Mediterranean is then sidestepped by relocating the Pillars of

Vision 5

19

Hercules to a convenient point further within the Mediterranean. Is there any reason to assume Plato got his timing wrong? At the heart of it lies an assumption of modern cultural superiority, which denies that a sophisticated civilisation could have existed 9,000 years before Solon. Modern discoveries now make it possible to believe that civilisations did exist earlier than we thought, and they even dismiss the cliché of grunting cavemen from our minds. This brings Atlantis nearer, even if we simply believe it to be a useful name for an early civilisation. There are two issues to consider - archaeological discoveries and anomalous artefacts. Regarding archaeological discoveries, logic dictates that if you want to find a drowned society - you don’t look on land, but under the sea. Discoveries have been made, eg the finding of ancient city remains off the coast of India; the

discovery that the Maltese “cart ruts” continue under the sea and must, as Malta became an island 14,600 years ago, be older than first thought. More about discoveries is to be found in Graham Hancock’s Underworld, following on from his television programme. The discoveries are at an early stage, but the cosy theory of cavemen followed by Sumeria, Babylon and ancient Egypt take a knock. Hancock’s view is that as the ice from the last Ice Age melted between 15,000 and 8,000 years ago, many previously inhabited lands were drowned and civilisations lost. He followed the flood legends throughout the world, giving them credit for holding a version of the truth and a key to civilisations (a word which in fact comes from “cives”, Latin for city) older than any yet found. Anomalous artefacts are another reason for believing that the civilisation is older and more complex than was first imagined. These are items which have been found in such a

way that suggests they belong to a certain period yet it seems they cannot be so old, because of their advanced nature. Even though some may be shown to be a hoax, and others the result of the contamination of an archaeological site, they cannot all be explained away. There are electric batteries found at a site in Turkey, and Egyptian stone vases the necks of which could not possibly have been drilled by any known technology. There are various pieces of artwork which show more advanced sensibility and techniques than we previously believed early people possessed. All these are not necessarily the direct product of a more ancient civilisation, but could be the result of ancient knowledge which had been preserved. One last consideration is the persistence

of legends of lost races. The Book of Enoch (not part of the bible) tells of how an angelic race lived amongst men, yet set apart. These angels, called ‘Watchers’ or ‘sons of God’, looked on the ‘daughters of man’ and, because they were beautiful, took wives from amongst them. This was the cause of their fall, because they passed on forbidden knowledge. Their children, the Nephilim, were monstrous, a giant race with white hair and glowing eyes. Noah, the great grandson of Enoch was born as a mysterious “throwback” to this race. Is this another matter entirely, or part of the Atlantis mystery? Below: A map charting some of the locations Atlantis is believed to be...could any one of these locations hold its secrets?

Clint Denyer (Dip.Ppsy. Ppsc. Dip.RV) reveals some space age theories about the lost world..

T

here are many theories as to the existence and location of Atlantis. The subject of Atlantis itself is a concept that lives more within our hearts and minds, rather than the three dimensional world we live in. We should look to Atlantis, not as a myth but as a reality. We should look with new eyes and new vision, for the realities of what happened to Atlantis are very much a mirror image of us now and our civilisation on this earth. We should widen our whole view and become open to Atlantis. We should open our minds to the theory that Atlantis was a huge planetary structure that roamed from galaxy to galaxy; its inhabitants were people and races from all areas

22 Vision 5

of the universe who brought together their own knowledge and wisdom. It had structure, commitment, and was a piercing light in the swathes of the darkness of space. It was the planet of light, love and communication which fought darkness, negativity, suppression and was a spiritual base of harmony, peace, and of wisdom and knowledge. Throughout its continual journey through space, it came many times to earth, to

spread structured spiritual knowledge, and a growth of immense cosmic awareness of the universe. It came to earth when the earth had been through its darkest days - after years of being ravaged of energy and mineral content. Atlantis was a multi-dimensional world and its mother planet was twice the size of earth. Large ships left the mothership, came down to earth and formed Atlantis on the Giza plateau in Egypt. Various races ventured out from here to different parts of the earth to spread messages, education and understanding of the universal laws. Many races including the Egyptian, Mayan, Inca, Aztec, Native American, elders of the dogon tribe in Africa, the Gods of Olympus, the cosmic builders of Easter island, the lemuria, Sumerian, and Babylonians all heralded from Atlantis. Many more left in spaceships and crossed vast distances over earth to again start life and educate those they met into the realms of the light, all civilisations were immersed in spiritual understanding. They also understood philosophy, astronomy, the scientific fields and possessed intelligence brought from their 5th dimensional world into our three-dimensional world. On earth we are currently in the 4th dimension - this is a transition time of purification, during which we are opening up to the ideals of the 5th dimension, which will start around 2012 - a time when we will begin to fully understand how we can use our conscious minds to their full capacity, ie mind over matter. The pyramids and the Sphinx, built on the Giza plateau, are believed to be tributes which were built on sacred ground to honour Atlantis. These monuments cannot be replicated - a prime example

of how Atlanteans used mind over matter. These structures are also an exact copy of what has been seen with satellite imaging on one particular area of mars - proof that Atlantis touched other planets too. Atlantis was believed to be a huge city protected by an ether of energy of the purest white light that stretched over the whole of the area in a massive dome structure. Inside were crystal pyramids, buildings statues and faces. The purpose of Atlantis was to teach us the spiritual content of these sacred lands and buildings, and to look at the spiritual values inside ourselves. Once Atlantis was formed it connected to its mother planet, and the energy grid of the universe linked into the earth. Inside the earth itself they created the earth’s heart centre, spiritual core where races went from the surface and city of Atlantis, and the birth of the inner earth peoples began, again from all walks of the universe. Giants, entities, dragons, animals, and a proportion of every race that walked on the earth’s surface, and great secrets and treasures of the mind and soul were located in the cities of Shamballa and Telos which were within the core of the planet. All races and species in Atlantis lived in harmony and peace and brought enlightenment and growth. Everything that has lived and existed on and in our earth has direct connections with Atlantis, so what happened to change this? Well, Atlantis was seeded with a germ of negativity, which spread across the whole of the Atlantis Empire its races fought each other as it self-destructed, running on the rivers of lust and greed wealth and power. Fortunately when this happened many were able to return to the mother planet and those that could not, took the secrets of Atlantis down into the ground into the centre of the earth. All the crystal structures slipped into the ground and vanished, and we can see this with all ancient highly advanced civilisations that disappeared virtually overnight. They took their knowledge and secrets to the core of existence going back into the womb of the universe.

The pyramids and the Sphinx, built on the Giza plateau, are believed to be tributes which were built on sacred ground to honour Atlantis.

P

erhaps no historical conundrum has endured the test of time as well as the legend of Atlantis. Those who have studied the ancient historical records regarding this mystical city-state have only to close their eyes to see, if only in their mind’s eye, a vista of unimaginable beauty. In Atlantis, technology was used but not abused. Breathtaking buildings and edifices blended beautifully with exotic plants of every hue and colour. The people of Atlantis lived at peace, their island home a veritable Garden of Eden. If Atlantis really existed, of course; and over that issue there hangs, like the proverbial sword of Damocles, a very large questionmark. There are, essentially, two different ways of studying Atlantis. We can look at the historical evidence, and then go in search of the remains of this lost city-kingdom, like a modern-day Indiana Jones or Colonel Fawcett. Alternatively, we can look at it from a spiritual perspective - although it must be said that this is no easy task. The truth is that we know little about the spiritual beliefs of the Atlanteans other than the snippets handed down to us by Plato. If what Plato said is to be trusted, the Atlanteans were actually quite conventional in their beliefs, sharing many of them with the Greeks. Why, then, do so many people think that Atlantis played host to a highly-developed super-religion, the priests of which were privy to both arcane secrets and mind-blowing powers the likes of which were supposedly beyond the understanding of our own scientific geniuses? There is probably a degree of romanticism in play here. The idea of an ancient, highly advanced civilization - a genuine Utopia - is a pleasant notion indeed. If the world was like that once, then maybe it can be like that again. Many people are so fascinated by Atlantis that they attempt to give an “Atlantean connection” to any mystery. Bigfoot? A genetically modified ape created by scientists in ancient Atlantis. The crystal skulls found in

24 Vision 5

South America? Taken there by the Atlanteans! So, then, am I saying that everything said about Atlantis is sheer stuff and nonsense? Not at all. For Atlantis to have made such an impression on Plato and others it must have been very special in some respects. Is it possible that Atlantis was technologically developed beyond what we know today? Yes it is. Could the Atlanteans have uncovered secrets about life, the universe and everything in it that are now lost to us? Indeed. Could Atlantis have played host to a spiritually advanced community that knew more about the truth behind religion and theology that ourselves? Of course. The trouble is that wild speculation doesn’t help. Nevertheless, what has come down to us from ancient sources may be of value. The island of Atlantis was said to have been shaped like a series of concentric circles with landmasses and “moats” alternating with each other. In the centre was a fertile island of great beauty. Plato mentions that there were many elephants there, probably employed to carry out physical tasks deemed beneath the status of the inhabitants. Atlantis played host to a magnificent temple dedicated to the deities Poseidon and Cleito. The three outer walls were covered with brass, tin and a substance known as orichalcum. Orichalcum was a metal which shined with a beautiful, red lustre and could be found all over Atlantis. Speculation is rife as to what exactly orichalcum was. Plato and others recorded ten wonders of the city (see table).

TEN WONDERS OF ATLANTIS AS RECORDED BY PLATO Two springs of the purest water - one hot and one cold; The soil was said to be so rich and fertile that any plant would thrive in it; The trees were prized by carpenters, and grew in such abundance that the forests and woods never depleted; The magnificent palaces and temples were decorated by every monarch and became more breathtaking and beautiful with each generation; The huge bridges which linked the various parts of the island complex were built from locally quarried red, white and black stone which gleamed in the sun; The temple of Cleito and Poseidon was surrounded by a gold-covered enclosure that was said to dazzle visitors who looked at it in the sun; The opulent baths included separate bathing areas for royalty, men, women and animals of various kinds; The Race Course was a race track of one stadium width and circled the entire island; The Pillar of Poseidon was a gleaming pillar made of orichalcum which contained the “commandments of Poseidon” as inscribed upon it by the island’s first king; The Atlantean Docks were so large that they were said to have room to house 1,000 galleys if necessary. Alas, for all its opulence and splendour the gods decreed that Atlantis should be no more. The record states: “But later there occurred violent earthquakes and floods. In a single day and night of disaster all your warriors, to a man, sank into the earth. The island of Atlantis in similar manner disappeared into the depths of the ocean”. We may never know the true location of Atlantis or understand accurately the wonders of Atlantea culture. One researcher referred to it as the City of Dreams. Ah, if only in our dreams we could travel back there.

Anna Kaye.

Michael Looking Coyote.

Do you have a problem which you lack intuition to solve? Do you have any spiritual questions to which you seek answers? Native American Michael Looking Coyote will use his Spirit Stones and clairvoyant medium Anna Kaye will consult her Tarot to offer a fresh view on matters.

A familiar face

Two years ago I saw a musician in a live band, and there was something familiar about him. Later I dreamt I was in a corridor, and could see a portrait hanging there - I felt it was of me. I’ve been hypnotically regressed at the suggestion of a psychic, and think that I may have lived with this man in the 12th century. Although I have a partner and 3 children, I have never wanted to marry my partner as I have always felt that my soul-mate was still out there somewhere. Now I feel I may have found him. Zoe, Shipley.

Meditate on the answers

For the last 18 months I’ve felt lost. I feel I am in a vast ocean, in the dark, treading water, waiting for someone or something to show me the way. I feel like there is something I should be doing but cannot see what it is. Please help! Christine, Billingham, Cleveland.

Looking Coyote’s Spirit Stone reading - the Tipi, the Arrow & the Two-Legged: I really hate to disappoint you, Zoe, but this man is neither your current soulmate or a future lover. The Tipi urges you to focus on your domestic situation and try to improve your current relationship. The Arrow says that, despite your pessimism, there may be a glimmer of hope that it can be saved. Whatever happens, the Two-Legged stone indicates that you will settle with someone who will prove to be both a good partner and a spiritual companion, whether this is your current partner or a future one. Anna’s Tarot reading - Justice, the Sun & the World: Most soulmates have been married for years, but past life soulmates rarely meet and stay together. I do believe you may very well have been linked to this man in a past life, but the Justice card is telling you there has to be balance in your life and you should now let that link remain in the past. The Sun card is very positive. Try and focus on the relationship you are already in. The World is about wholeness and things being complete. Maybe it is time you make a commitment to your partner and tell him “I do”?

Looking Coyote’s Spirit Stone reading - the Listening Stick & the Horse: Actually, you don’t need help, or at least very little. Surprised? Let me explain. You’re feeling lost, right? That’s because you don’t know where to go. The good news is that you KNOW you’re lost and, unlike many people, have recognised that aimlessness is not good for the spirit. Good for you! Listening Stick indicates that the Creator has plans for you. You simply need to listen to what He has to say. Meditate, dream, open yourself up to Great Mystery’s voice. Then Horse will soon take you on a journey far more satisfying than anything you have known to date. Anna’s Tarot reading - the Fool, the Hermit & the Sun: The Fool: this feeling of being lost, being stuck and treading water is a time of preparation. The Hermit says take this time to discover who you really are. At this time please consider some form of meditation. I feel very strongly that you are being guided and your purpose in life will soon be revealed. Don’t fight this time of stillness; use it to grow spiritually. The Sun card: await what the universe will send you. I see brightness coming to you, and a fresh start, like a bear waking from a long sleep into a spring morning.

Looking Coyote’s Spirit Stone reading – the Papoose, Medicine Wheel & Flute: I’m not a crystal healer, but smoky quartz is said to bring alignment and harmony. Interestingly, one of the stones I selected for your reading is the Medicine Wheel, which speaks of the need for balance – alignment and harmony, in other words. The Grandfathers tell me that the wand may indeed help. Papoose says your grandson needs to feel wanted. Continue to make him feel secure, while the doctors seek a treatment he will respond to. I believe they will, although it may take time before you see any effect. Be hopeful: Flute sings to you that days of peace lie ahead.

Anna’s Tarot reading: the Hanged Man, the Empress & Temperance: To a fellow reader and spiritual warrior, blessed be. The Hanged Man: I feel you have been in suspension for some time now and not using the powers of healing you surely possess. I feel a very strong female spirit guide working through you, encouraging you to put your own healing abilities to good use at this moment, so please do try. You are the Empress, the nurturing mother or grandmother, who can help your grandson heal. Temperance: I’m being told rose quartz, alongside smoky quartz, will help your grandson, as well as channelled healing.

Feeling empty

I’m 25-years-old and my life is going nowhere. I’m drifting and can’t find life’s goals. I tend to put others first and rarely myself. I’ve let so many things pass me by and I feel lonely and confused. I’m also having dreams of a church and a knight’s tomb. In another dream I’m in a house filled with books. In another, I’m in a modern hospital but the people are in old-fashioned dress. In some I’m trying to reach a destination but I never get there. It’s frustrating. Lisa, West Midlands.

Anna’s Tarot reading – Temperance & Death: I’m sure most 25-year-olds have felt the same as you at some point in their lives. You are a wise soul in a young body. Temperance is telling you to be patient and take everything in your stride as it comes to you. The Death card speaks of changes: not physical death, but rather a transformation. I feel your dreams are echoes of past incarnations, and I strongly recommend you read Ariadne’s Thread: a workbook of godess magic by Shekhinah Mountainwater (The Crossing Press, ISBN: 089594 – 476 – 6). It is a workbook for women’s spirituality and waking up the goddess inside of you.

Anna’s Tarot reading - the Chariot, the World & Justice: The Chariot: you’ve been pulled in two different directions for quite some time regarding communicating with your higher self. The World: life is always changing. Now is the time for spiritual quests, but Justice tells me that there has to be equal balance between the spiritual and the material, which you’ve lost. If you can’t afford courses, check out the internet, community centres and your local library. Read books on chakra cleansing and colour healing. Work through them slowly in your own time, and read the articles in Vision that will help you rekindle your spiritual side.

I hope you can shed some light on our situation. My wife and I got married 10 years ago but somehow we’ve ended up in a situation with our families and we don’t know how we got there or how to resolve it. We are thinking of moving away out of town, but my wife is not too sure and is worried about making a wrong move. She would also like to know how she can get in touch with her spirit/angel guides, as she feels that she needs help to make the right decision. Can you help us? John, Grimsby.

My 14 year-old grandson sustained a severe head injury 5 years ago and suffers from deep depression and anger. He’s begun to harm himself and we are still waiting to get him help from doctors. I was wondering if you think a smoky quartz crystal wand would help him when he gets these bouts of depression? Hilary, Cardiff.

Looking Coyote’s Spirit Stone reading - the Owl & the Salmon: Owl, often called the Shaman’s Eye, indicates that both the answers to your frustrations and the power to interpret your own dreams lie within you. The knight’s tomb in the church asks you to draw inspiration from great spiritual teachers of the past. The books urge you to seek knowledge, whilst the “oldfashioned” people are your ancestors trying to tell you something. They are showing you a modern hospital as an indication that you may have healing abilities. Salmon urges you to move forward, bringing the gift of healing to others and a sense of purpose to your own life.

Looking Coyote’s Spirit Stone reading - the River & the Porcupine: Gifts from the Grandfathers can be given and taken away, but in your case they have merely become inactive. When our minds become focussed elsewhere - such as when we marry - we may allow our abilities to fall into disuse. The River tells me that your life is progressing as it should, and the Porcupine heralds joy regarding your desire to heal once again. You don’t need to spend money to reactivate your special gifts – you need sincerity of heart on your part and the prayers of those around you. Write to me again with your full address and/or telephone number and I’ll send you further details.

Family problems

A crystal clear solution?

Have I lost my gifts?

When I was younger, I had some psychic and healing gifts. Every morning I would wake to my room full of the most beautiful colours. After I got married I stopped developing my healing and never had anymore ‘colour’ experiences. I would love to re-awaken my psychic abilities. Have I lost my gifts? How can I wake them up again? What is my purpose in this life? There are many courses available, but money is a bit short at the moment, so I can’t consider taking any. Joanna, Wallasey, Merseyside.

Looking Coyote’s Spirit Stone reading - Crossed Arrows & Sacred Smoke: Crossed Arrows signify friendship, so whatever you may do to heal the breach with your family and in-laws, don’t do it before consulting those you trust for sound advice. Should you move? Follow your heart, but don’t use a house move purely as a way of running from either your problems or your relatives. Sacred Smoke tell me the lines of communication between your wife and her guides are already open; maybe she just doesn’t recognise their guidance for what it is! Nevertheless, your wife should meditate twice a day, as regular meditation is good for improving spiritual communication. Anna’s Tarot reading - the Hierophant, the Lovers & the Empress: First of all, you don’t tell me what the problems are with your in-laws or your family. Hierophant says there are very strong spiritual connections around you, and the Lovers speak to me of choices; perhaps two jobs, two houses, etc. Both your wife and you will have to make decisions pretty soon. The Empress is about putting down roots: fertility, growth and expansion. Move forward and try not to let your emotions get in the way of your progress. Your situation will be resolved in time, but you need to reassure your wife of this.

Our Isatreya psychic development course continues with an examination of clairsentience.

28 Vision 5

C

lairsentience is the ability to perceive intuitive thoughts by feelings and having the knowledge about an object or person with whom you come into contact with. A clairsentient can sense and read people’s auras as well as individual objects to discover their personal history and life experiences. This ability enables them to have a greater understanding of life and others. Most people have experienced clairsentience at some point in their lives. Have you ever walked into a house and felt extreme happiness or sadness? Maybe you have viewed a new home and instinctively felt like it was ‘home’? Or have you ever altered your destination or journey without thinking, only to find that there was an accident on your original route? These are all examples of clairsentience. If you are clairsentient then you will be able to sense whether a person is in a good mood, because you will sense their personal aura expanding. If they are in a bad mood then it will be drawn in tightly around them. Always take note of any clairsentient feelings you may have, as they can prove very handy in everyday life, particularly when judging situations. If you are still developing your psychic abilities and you cannot see or hear Spirit, but you can feel and sense then you may find that when you start

practising clairsentience, your other abilities such as clairaudience and clairvoyance will improve greatly. As with all things the more effort and time you invest into developing that ability, the more that you will receive back. How to develop your clairsentient abilities in a safe and protected way: Sit in a quiet, well-lit room; Ground and protect yourself (imagine tree roots emerging from your feet, deep into the earth until your feet become heavy); Breathe deeply and allow your whole body to relax; Once you are totally relaxed in body and mind, ask if one of your personal spirit guides will now come and make their presence known to you; Practise steps 1-5 until you can quickly and easily feel your spirit guide and you recognise his or her presence; Once you have recognised your guide you can then start working with them, but you will need to first work out between you a formula of how you can communicate and interpret each other. Ask your guide to give you a definite answer. A simple way to do this is by using yes or no answers much in the same way as you would use a pendulum. Ask a question that you know that the answer is yes to.

For example ‘Is my name……..?’ What noticeable sign did you receive? It may be something subtle like a breeze on one of your arms, or did you sense someone stroking your hair? Now repeat steps 6-8 but ask a question to which you know the answer is no; You now should be able to identify between yes and no, so you can ask your guide questions that can be answered with a yes or no response; Once you have practiced this, ask your guides to help you develop clairsentient abilities. Close your eyes and interpret different energies that are presented to you; When you feel energy make a note of how it makes you feel and ask your guide for confirmation that what you’re sensing is true; When you start practising with your eyes closed you may even start to see flashes of colour. This is a sure indication that your clairsentient abilities are starting to develop. Remember the more that you practise, the quicker you will feel and sense the energies around you and from Spirit, which will enable you to have a greater understanding in the life that you lead. NEXT MONTH: Learn about claircognizance.

Psychic Postbag The Isatreya answers all your psychic questions. Q) When I go to sleep I sometimes feel as though I am being watched and it is starting to scare me. Is there anything I can do to ease the situation? Lorraine, Staffs. The Isatreya replies: It may be your spirit guide, but if you feel uneasy about it, just simply ask them to move away from you, telling them that it makes you feel uneasy. You could also call in your favourite angel to protect you and help you feel safe. Simply speak to your angel as a friend and ask what you require. This course has been written by Isatreya™ Institute of Higher Learning. Would five days working with an Archangel change your life? I

’ve been thinking about my funeral. Not that I’ve been feeling unwell or anything, but I am fast approaching 40, and these things need to be considered in case I get run over by a steamroller. I suppose if a steamroller did flatten me at least I could be buried in a large envelope and would save money on a coffin. Funerals appear to be quite a lucrative market and I am surprised that big businesses have never got involved; they could sponsor all aspects of the service: “This funeral is bought to you in association with Mr Whoopsie’s Ice-cream Parlour. A real taste of heaven”. Vacuum cleaner companies could also get in on the act and make themselves some spare cash: “Ashes to ashes, dust to dust - can now all be removed with the new super-suction bagless vacuum cleaner at all good hardware stores”. A friend of mine attended a funeral recently where the man in question had suffered a long illness, and had organized the whole service himself, even down to a letter to be conveyed by the vicar. “I will miss you all,” it read, “after the service you are to go to the pub, where I have left £200 behind the bar for you to have a drink on me”. Now that’s leaving with style! I quite fancy a Viking send off. A coffin in the shape of a long-ship would be good. It could be set alight and floated out on the nearest boating lake. The real truth, of course, is that

30 Vision 5

‘I’m as dead now as I ever will be’. Life is eternal. I will merely shift in consciousness (normally only achieved after 8 pints of beer). There’s a good chance that I will attend my own funeral anyway and look down from the ‘other side’, just to see who’s bothered to turn up for the free sausage rolls and warm beer. A close uncle of mine died unexpectedly. For a while after he’d left us I found it hard to come to terms with. One night he visited me in a dream. He took hold of my hand and placed it on his beard, this was his way of telling me, ‘look, I’m fine’. “Don’t be so intense,” he enthused, “I didn’t laugh enough when I was on your side, but here it’s great, I can do anything I want, I can even fly. Cheer up you big cuckoo and get over yourself”. At this point he started to leap around the room ecstatically. He looked not unlike John Cleese with a wasp in his pants, his arms and legs pumping up and down and coming out at right angles. “I’ve never felt so alive!” he chuckled. I laughed and laughed. He

wasn’t dead, far from it! I woke up with tears streaming down my face, and found it even funnier when awake (the wife, however, wasn’t so amused to be woken at 3 o’clock in the morning by her husband, braying like a donkey - but don’t worry - I smothered her with a pillow and she soon dropped into a deep sleep!). Other aspects of my own funeral to be considered are: do I want to be buried or cremated? If I choose a burial I will insist on a fog-horn being placed in the coffin with me, just in case the doctors get it wrong and I wake up, I could just give a few blasts. Passers-by however, might wonder why they can hear a ship in a graveyard. In the end I think I will choose a cremation. I would like my ashes scattered the length of the wines and spirits isle in my local supermarket after all, that seems to be where I’ve spent half my life! One thing is certain; I don’t want any long faces at the service, so strictly no horses. Reach Nick via his website at www.NickRichardson.co.uk

Clare Sheridan travelled to Edinburgh to connect with her angels and spirit guides courtesy of Doreen Virtue and Gordon Smith.

Gordon Smith, Doreen Virtue & Steven

Farmer at the event. he Corn Exchange in Edinburgh came alive on a bright spring day thanks to a workshop hosted by American angel expert Doreen Virtue and Scottish medium Gordon Smith. The 400-strong audience had all come to connect with their guardian angels and She also emphasized that we spirit guides - some from as far as Brazil, should ask for help more often, as they Spain, Denmark, Switzerland and France can only intervene at our request - and they were not disappointed. The although they cannot influence free will. bright sunshine put everyone in high Other beings she touched upon included spirits and the comfortable venue, Archangels (the managers of guardian sufficiently far out of Edinburgh’s angels), deceased loved ones, Ascended bustling city centre, was an angelic haven Masters (those that walked the earth as for those seeking some spiritual special teachers or healers), and enlightenment. elementals (faeries, leprechauns and The black velvet backdrop to the divas). stage was peppered with delicate stars as She then guided the audience both Doreen and Gordon appeared to through ways in which these beings introduce the event. The pair brought contact us: feelings; visions or dreams; love, light and laughter to the audience. thoughts; and words. We all answered a “This is a day about you,” said series of questions to determine which Doreen. “Sometimes people who don’t sense each one of us could relate to best. want to come along but do with a mate, But those are not the only way angels have great success. It’s about healing, communicate - many people see flashing about opening our hearts to the guidance coloured lights before their eyes - or we receive. We’re not here to convert repeated number sequences in clock anyone - experience is the greatest times or car number plates; Doreen also teacher of all.” explained what each of these Gordon added: “I’m sure people represented. will leave feeling light of spirit. Hopefully There was even a surprise you will take that out to family and speaker in the form of Doreen’s husband, friends.” Doreen echoed that sentiment: Steven Farmer, author of Power “You’ll leave here with a song in your Animals. He spent a few minutes on heart and lots more angels,” she said. stage explaining what a power animal Doreen hosted the morning was, before we all got the chance to give session and Gordon the afternoon. each other a reading to discover our own Doreen explained the origins of angels and the fact that everyone has them. They angels and power animals. After we tested out our abilities deliver messages - she deemed them on each other - with amazing accuracy, ‘God’s postal carriers’ - and said that which proves that everyone without much of the pain and suffering in the exception has psychic ability - we took world is caused by people who ignore the messages from their angels: “Nobody who part in a meditation to find out our guardian angels’ names. needlessly suffers, inspires anybody.”

And then it was time for lunch and book signings! After lunch Gordon took to the stage with his wry brand of humour and his amazingly accurate readings. “People assume because you do mediumship, it just naturally happened like that,” he explained. “That’s not it. I have had to develop and hone what I do. I’ve had to learn how to communicate with and on behalf of the Spirit world. I did this in a private circle, which stems from trust - there was a great discipline to those days. There’s nothing worse than a medium who blurts things out and has no control - I’ve had to learn to be tactful. “My workshop is to try and bring out your potential. To develop your higher consciousness - the part you tend not to know. You won’t learn it in a day I haven’t finished my training and I’m still doing it!” He emphasized the fact that really people don’t need mediums to talk to their loved ones - everyone already can, it’s just the “demon of doubt” that holds them back. But he did say that people will only ever see Spirit if they are truly ready. He also said that it takes time to distinguish between imagination and genuine messages - it took him 7 years to get to know his spirit guides. Meditation and a hilarious on-stage demonstration of how he connects to the world of Spirit, formed a fascinating basis. Peppered with good humour, Gordon’s amusing personal stories made it all the more memorable particularly when the audience participation in a card reading didn’t quite pan out as expected! The second half was Gordon at his best - demonstrating and giving messages from lost loved ones. His accuracy is astounding - he even knew that one woman had just won on the Premium Bonds! His parting statement rang so true: “If you’re frightened of dying, you are not living. Get on with your life.” I’m sure no-one who attended the day had any fears or doubts left about their own abilities, death, or about the existence of light beings. Both Gordon and Doreen very kindly took time out of their busy schedules to talk to Vision’s editor Clare Sheridan.

Gordon Smith Did you enjoy hosting the Edinburgh workshop? “I did enjoy it. It’s nice to be able to express yourself and teach people things - it’s more than merely giving out messages - that’s part of what I do, but it’s nice to be able to do this too. “Several people came up and said they felt very elated and uplifted and that’s nice. You connect personally with an audience - it’s a message that lifts many. When people come along to something like that they feel part of it as we include everybody. “I hope people will find some kind of peace and balance in their lives from the workshop. I hope people will live their lives in a better way and not live their lives in fear.”

Have you hosted workshops before? “I have been teaching for 15 years. The biggest audience was about 5,000 people in Pheonix. I think they welcome the subject wherever I go, but I get a much better reception in the UK. “People who come along want to get some message of comfort so they come with an open mind and an open heart. “It’s nice to be able to do the other stuff (mediumship), but at the end of the day you can reach more people with teaching, than messages for one person.”

What do you enjoy most about workshops? “I don’t care who I am - it’s

32 Vision 5

what I can do for people. I get the most out of anything I feel I’ve done where I’ve expressed myself well. “If you get a moment when you are teaching and it’s fresh and new and coming from you, that means so much. Just trying to do something good for people. When words come through for a message, you touch the hearts and souls of people - you lift people up. You cannot help but feel good about yourself.”

Do you prefer workshops to demonstrations? “I do more demonstrations than workshops. I don’t think I have a preference. I’ve worked with hundreds of people, many

different mediums at different events.”

Have you worked with Doreen before? “Yes. Doreen and I are good friends. I first met Doreen 3 or 4 years ago. I believe in angels - I believe in all light beings. They are pure light. They are beautiful important beings - an ideal.”

What is next in the pipeline for you? “A new book. I want to write about loss, grief and try to help people going through that. The book will look at the healing that you can bring to grief - it’s something I’m very passionate about. “I’m doing some cards next year. They are about the 5 elements called The Keys to Happiness. They are oracle cards but they can be used to work with a person to bring them understanding and balance.”

Doreen Virtue host workshops for children? “I don’t see myself doing workshops for children - more workshops for teachers of children that will empower them to go and work with the Indigo and Crystal Children. I definitely have a passion for the new psychic children. I just started a non-profit organisation to get fast food off college campus lunches.” Do you enjoy working with Gordon? “Gordon and I are a really good match we both have been doing readings for free for many years. “He has trusted and followed his guidance. He doesn’t have an ego. I consider him one of the greatest psychics in the world. He’s not full of himself. I have learned a lot from him.”

Which part of your workshops do you enjoy the most? “I enjoy watching people when they pair up and do readings. It empowers them, particularly when they realize that they too can do it as well as a professional psychic. My whole mission is to help people realize they are psychic. “A lot of people didn’t know they could do it - it’s encouraging that they can have that experience. There was one woman at one workshop who was a complete sceptic - but she saw angels!” Do you enjoy visiting the UK? “I come every spring to the UK. I have had a number of past lifetimes in England and I always feel at home here.”

What other topics do you cover in your workshops? “There are various workshops, from introductory - to measure psychic ability - to more advanced, incorporating my passion such as Atlantis and working with ascended masters, past life regression and healing. “The largest audience I’ve spoken to was 8,000 people in Sydney, Australia. It was in a basketball stadium with other mediums - it was amazing. I think it doesn’t matter how many people are in the audience - in truth we are all one.” Your new Magical Unicorns Oracle Cards are aimed at children as well as adults. Do you think you’ll ever

Which do you enjoy more – writing your books or hosting workshops? “I enjoy writing best - it’s my passion. I studied journalism in college. For me the greatest pleasure in the world is expressing myself through the written word. The angels guide me to work in workshops.” What is next for you? “Hay House has commissioned my Goddesses and Angels book, which is out in October - a look at Atlantis and Lemuria as well as mermaids and dolphins. I’m really excited about that. I have a real love for dolphins - they are here to teach us about how to manifest and reclaim our power. I also have The Angel Guidance Board out in Oct. It has crystal dice and is like a ouija board, but gives definite answers.” Turn to page 75 to take advantage of our Doreen Virtue subscription offer!

Carole Chui reveals what the vast city may have looked like.

P

lato’s unfinished dialogue Critias gives a description of the history and lifestyle of Atlantis, more than 9,000 years after the supposed vanishing of the land. Using Greek names and Greek measurements, he began when the earth was divided among the gods, and Poseidon, the sea-god, received Atlantis as his share. He fell in love with a mortal girl, Cleito, and to keep her hidden, he enclosed the hill where she lived in alternate zones of sea and land. They had 10 sons, among whom he divided the land, with the eldest, Atlas and his descendants, as high king. The heads of the other kingdoms would come to the domain of the high king at intervals of 5 or 6 years to discuss matters of state and sacrifice a sacred bull, followed by a great feast. Ultimately Atlas’s city became the busy capital. Bridges were built over the sea, canals carried roads, and passages were made between the canals that were able to accommodate ships. A canal linked up with the sea. So huge was the scale that the largest ships could pass under the bridges and come into the city. In the centre were palaces and temples, and between two of the canals was a magnificent race track. Atlantis was rich in minerals and ruled over many islands; what its own fertile ground did not provide, it brought in from the bounds of its empire. There were magnificent buildings built from the white, black and red stone quarried from the various rings. Where the stone was quarried, harbours and shipyards were created. The outer ring was the merchant quarter, frequented by sailors from all over the world. Those buildings were decorated in gold, silver, ivory and orichalcum. Orichalcum is a golden-bronze metal used in Atlantis and since forgotten. There are suggestions that it was a

gold-copper or a bronze-zinc alloy. Even amber has been suggested. There were fountains as well as public and private baths. Summer baths were open to the sky, but winter baths were roofed over and warmed. Aqueducts carried the run off water to irrigate gardens, and further out there were baths for animals. The capital was set in a cultivated rectangular plain, sheltered from the north, surrounded by beautiful mountains which contained prosperous villages. Rivers ran to the sea from the mountains and water was distributed round the plain by canals. The waterways carried wood from the mountains and harvest from the plains to the city. Plato described how the inhabitants forgot the god-portion of their ancestry and were punished by Zeus, as Atlantis vanished in a series of volcanic eruptions and flooding. One widespread theory popular after Plato’s time is that there were 3 disasters involving eruption and flood, which became progressively worse and spread over a long period, thus giving inhabitants time to prepare an escape

and to bring as much of their knowledge as they could render portable to places as far apart as Egypt and South America. Thus Atlantis seeded civilisation although it lost its physical existence. Since then, Atlantis’ starry wisdom has been claimed as the basis of just about every magical order, and by other organisations too. Even when it is said to be handed on in unbroken line, it is more likely to be psychically recovered by channelling or past life recall.

It is notable that many theories of the end of Atlantis pointed not to natural disaster, but to man’s folly.

Many people, including myself, are engaged in such research. We have to be aware of the dangers of uncritical acceptance, yet willing to set aside total scepticism and document the search. During the late 19th to early 20th century, it was notable that many theories of the end of Atlantis pointed not to natural disaster, but to man’s folly. Helena Blavatsky of the Theosophist movement wrote of an advanced race that destroyed itself because of spiritual degeneration.

36 Vision 5

This proved a popular theme during the development of nuclear power, as people compared modern man to Atlantis before the fall. Edgar Cayce read the Akashic Records to tell people of their past lives in Atlantis. He is probably the originator of the theory that Atlanteans had a huge crystal which powered their society. They became greedy and their overuse of the crystal began the disaster which destroyed Atlantis. Crystals and sonic energy, whereby great rocks could be sung into place, have been part of

Atlantis theory for some time. The New Age has adopted the crystals and seen a kinship with dolphins as their contribution. Is there perhaps an Atlantis for every age? In search of Atlantis I both facilitate and undergo past life regression, and in this way I have had glimpses of a civilisation where children are recruited and trained from early youth in mind skills, scrying, far-seeing (psychic sight over a distance), and energy work. I have been a 7-year-old,

striving to hold an image of a 7-pointed star in the back of my mind and at the same time see it in a dark bowl. This is training both for scrying and for later joining “the Mind Net beyond the stars”. This seems to be a ‘place’ where information can be exchanged mind to mind and where esoteric knowledge can be pursued. I am still exploring what that means. Perhaps the phrase resonates with you? I have taken part in a teenage training ‘triad’ engaged in energy exercises where 2 of the 3 present raised the 3rd off the ground by only the use of their energy bodies. I have claimed that “I can see ships 3 days away!”. I have met an Atlantean apple-grower who could mentally tune in to the tree and its fruits and know when they were ripe. On the darker side, I have spoken to someone who drowned in Atlantis and I have been in a ship leaving Atlantis and felt the overpowering sorrow of never being able to go home again. Is it real? I keep my mind open and continue the quest.

Echoes of Atlantis

Carole Chui reveals part of her past life memories as a Priestess in the lost city. I am very old and I am far from home, but I remember Atlantis. I remember the place above the sea, the Star Garden and the aromatic herbs. I remember the great temples of Atlantis - the Sea Temple and the Hidden Temple most of all. I remember the sea itself, the sun and moon making paths upon it, the many moods and colours of it. And I remember the Mind Net beyond the stars. There I will go one last time, with my last strength very soon. This time I will not return. I shall go beyond the Mind Net and one day I shall return, but not here and not to Atlantis. Never to Atlantis. Here they call me Old Mother. To them it is a term of respect although it falls oddly on the ears of a Priestess of Atlantis. One more time I call myself that. We are all scattered, each, I think, trying to hold on to the wisdom we knew and pass it on. It has been hard; one person can hold only a little of the wisdom of the old country and what I know was fuller of holes than my grandfather’s fishing net even before I grew so very old and tired. Here among this community of women, I have tried to pass on what I can. She comes, Night Bird, to turn down the lamps. She is the wisest and dearest of my pupils, but I fear her wisdom is her own although she now carries a little of Atlantis with her. She knows the herbs and the stars and she teaches her lore

with patience and skill. But it is a country lore that her pupils receive and I would have had her pass on so much more. The Mind Net . . . she knows of it only a little and none of the others have even her grasp. She will not be able to pass on even what she knows, as I have not been able to pass on all that I know, and that is little enough of the old wisdom. I wonder what happened to the two others of my Triad? We trained together and worked together and were together so much more wise and powerful than we were separately. As the lights dim, I can see against my closed eyelids a picture of us in our youth, as clear as if it were reflected in a still scrying pool. There is Rhem-Dath, in the arrogance of his youth, but with the distant look in his eye of the far seers. He was the best of his generation, and he knew it all too well. There is A-Beth-Nega, who knew the stars and their movements as though they were a meadow at her feet. And there was me, who now has no name except Old Mother. I was the daughter of fisher people, selected at a young age by the temple, and I went to a life my sisters and brothers could not have imagined. I voyaged the Mind Net and I watched for something that never came. Yet I never lost the feeling that I belonged to the sea and that I would one day return there.

Sandie Gustus, from the International Academy of Consciousness (IAC) explores the notion of karma.

K

arma is as much a fact of life as death is - there is no escaping the fact. It is one of the few things that we can count on in our lives, both current and future … an inevitability for every single human being regardless of credence, color or merit, without exception. In light of this fact, we have much to gain from increasing our knowledge and understanding of the laws of karma. By being better informed, we can start to consciously engage with our own karma, and transform it from something that ‘happens’ to us over which we feel we have no control, to something that we drive ourselves. For those who are not already familiar with the concept, karma is the law of cause and effect, or action and reaction. Simply put, every action has a consequence. Karma is not, however, about punishment or reward, or judgment of any kind. The karmic consequences of our decisions, choices and actions are often not apparent in one lifetime but are played out over a series of future physical incarnations. There are three different types of karma:

Egokarma A person’s egokarma consists of the actions and reactions relating solely to himself or herself, so it is a personal karmic account. For example, if I eat and rest well, exercise, and generally take care of my physical and psychological well-being, I will be healthy. If I lead a sedentary lifestyle, smoke two packets of cigarettes every day of my adult life and eat nothing but processed foods with a high fat and sugar content, I will not be healthy.

Groupkarma When we die, we continue to exist in a non-physical state in a dimension more

38 Vision 5

subtle than the physical dimension. Each of us belongs to a large group of people that includes both family, other relatives, friends and colleagues etc, that includes both living beings and others who are currently in the non-physical state between lives. Groupkarma therefore, is the karmic account we have with all the people with whom we have formed a relationship (as opposed to a mere acquaintance), in this life or in previous lives. We end up living a greater number of existences with these individuals due to factors such as shared ideas, ideologies, history, energetic affinities, and natural rapport etc - so our karma becomes intertwined with theirs. Groupkarma is unavoidable as during our existence on earth, human beings depend on others to survive, notably up until the age of five. Sometimes there are circumstances in which a person cannot get out of his group … because if he tries to leave he will be killed. Some mafia and terrorist

organizations, drug and prostitution rings, and other criminal networks subscribe to this code of behaviour. When this happens, the person who wants to get out is trapped by the unethical principles and actions of the group and may just be starting to pay back the karmic debt he incurred by participating in the destructive activities of his group. Many lives may pass before the karmic debt has been recovered or rebalanced and he is free of his group. During this time and in order to repay the debt, he will be a victim of his group but later, help others who are victims of the same group. When you are a victim of your group, there are many possible ways that you might pay back your karmic debt. A person who was a drug dealer in one life might suffer as a result of drugs in a future life. He might become a drug addict himself; he might, as a passer-by and through an apparent synchronicity, get caught up in street crime or other

violence related to drugs that he has nothing to do with, and get hurt or killed; perhaps a son or daughter in a future life might share a needle once with a drug user and contract the HIV virus; or could suffer at the hands of one of his previous victims. So there are many different and complex ways in which a person can settle his or her karmic debt. The link is not always so obvious or direct. As we progress through the stages of group karma we eventually free ourselves of our commitments or responsibilities to our group and eventually, we apply our time to develop and improve ourselves. When we progress to the stage where we apply our time to help others to similarly develop themselves, we open our polykarmic account.

Polykarma Polykarma refers to the karmic account of an individual in relation to all other beings, including those who are

physically alive and those who currently exist in a non-physical incarnation between lives. Polykarma relates to an event in which our actions reach and affect people that we don’t know, and on a larger scale. People such as Gandhi and Einstein opened their polykarmic accounts. Others, such as Adolf Hitler, Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden, each of whom has been responsible for the deaths of thousands of people, have polykarmic karmic accounts that are heavily in debt. Every physical individual has his own egokarmic and groupkarmic accounts open from the moment he takes his first breath on earth. Only a small minority of people, however, have opened their polykarmic accounts. Knowing what we now know about egokarma, groupkarma and polykarma (which when considered together are known as holokarma, from the Greek

holos meaning whole), what practical steps can we take to improve our holokarma? On the egokarmic level, look after yourself well by making sure that all your needs are met on the physical, emotional and mental levels. To improve your groupkarma, strive to have a clear conscience with regards to all of your relationships - take steps to eliminate or avoid any misunderstandings, resentments, sorrows or hurts; stop victimizing others or playing the victim. To open your polykarmic account, do good works of assistance to help not only your friends and family, but strangers people that you don’t know - and as many of them as possible. In this way, we start to take responsibility for and improve our own karma, and see it as an important influence in our lives over which we can exercise some control rather than as an unseen force of which we are but random victims. hat The Bleep Do We Know!? is a new documentary which dares to push the boundaries of modern thinking. Predominantly centred around quantum physics, the film features theories from prominent scientists as to the nature of life itself. But don’t let the science put you off, part narrative too, the viewer follows central character Amanda (Marlee Matlin - pictured top right), a photographer whose life is turned upside down when the uncertainty of a quantum world is revealed to her. Three years in the making and written, directed and produced by Mark Vicente, Betsy Chasse and William Arntz, the film combines elaborate special effects with animation and interviews to pose questions such as ‘What is the nature of reality?’ and ‘Why am I here?’ I spoke to writer, director and producer Mark Vicente (pictured top left), who knew at the age of 14 that he wanted to be a filmmaker. The South African got his big break as director of photography on the Whoopi Goldberg film Sarafina. It was then that he realized he wanted to make films that uplift and inspire. Where did the idea for What The Bleep Do We Know!? come from? “William Arntz (filmmaker/financier) and I met at a retreat at Ramtha’s School of Enlightenment in 2001. “We realized that we shared a common dream to use media to provide information to the public that they may not ordinarily have access to - new ideas and new ways to model reality – to make changes in their own lives. We both loved science and felt that the new sciences had mystical, puzzling and radical things to say about reality and us as human beings.”

40 Vision 5

What themes and theories are raised in the film? “The film is about questioning who we are and our relationship to our world. There’s an aspect of quantum physics that says something called the ‘observer’ affects sub-atomic reality. Numerous experiments have shown that this elusive ‘observer’ changes reality and anything we think of as ‘real’ doesn’t come into being until an observer views it. Now, what is amazing is that the ‘observer’ turns out to be us! Every single human being is an observer which means every human being, regardless of colour, race, sex and creed, is constantly affecting their reality. So therefore we might be capable of doing remarkable and sometimes miraculous things. We are in essence creating our reality every second of our day and reality conforms to our expectations 100 per cent of the time - but we are habitually addicted to our emotions: our suffering, our anger etc. So we ask: what would happen if we began to master these aspects of ourselves? What would we be capable of?” Does the audience need to understand quantum physics to understand the film? “Not at all. They just have to understand that reality is far more mysterious and magical than you may have learned about in school, in church or from television or newspapers.” Do you agree with the theories in the film? “The only way for me to truly agree with an idea is to test it out: to have an experience myself and then arrive at a conclusion. This film and the ideas in it are merely a philosophy. They are not truth until we try them and have the experience.

“Many of the ideas in the film I have experienced and have found to be true. The ones I haven’t, I find so compelling that I hold them as extremely strong possibilities because they make perfect sense to me.” In this modern society, do you think people are more willing to accept that the brain is capable of so much more? “I think so. People are spending more money on alternative medicine. Studies of normal Western medicine point to the ‘placebo effect’. You have to stop and think ‘Wait a minute, you’re saying that my belief in a sugar pill healed me?’ There are also studies examining people with multiple personality disorders, in which each individual personality has it’s own unique and independent biochemistry and disease. “People are questioning the idea that we are helpless pawns in our lives. As people consider the idea that their thinking creates their life moment to moment, they begin to take their power back.” Will there be a sequel? “We haven’t made any decisions about that yet. An extended DVD will be out at the end of the year though which will include more material from the 60 hours of interviews we did.” The film has been a huge success in America, why do you think that is? “People are hungry and tired of the same drivel. You know...creative ways to shoot and blow people up. How many times can we see the same story? People want more. They want films that explore things that touch their hearts, souls and engage their minds.” Turn to page 76 for our review.

Exploring dreams is like exploring the depths of an ocean… discovering new aspects of ourselves with new resources and new hopes… it is a long journey! Begin that journey with Vision’s continued monthly alphabet round-up of the most common dream scenarios.

Common dreams beginning with the letter Face Looking at a face may draw your attention to your own emotional state. If you have been trying to hide your feelings, now may be the time to acknowledge how you really feel! Remember that when you are looking at many faces, you are looking at different aspects of yourself! Fairies Fairies are known to be beautiful and to possess magical powers. Symbolically, they are inviting you to connect with your higher self and nature. If your life is stressful, the fairies invite you to relax and play. Falling Symbolically this can indicate a sense of losing control over some aspect of your life. Perhaps a project has not materialised or your hopes have been shattered! It could also represent your spiritual doubts or struggles, and represent the importance of being grounded. Farm This type of dream may suggest that you look at a healthier lifestyle, closer to nature and animals. Perhaps you have been considering sharing your life with a pet or taking a break away from a buzzing environment? Or you may wish to explore alternative ways of eating and be more aware of your health needs. Feathers Feathers enable birds to fly. So, symbolically, feathers may encourage you to look at a situation from a different perspective, perhaps in a more detached way! In Shamanism, feathers are associated with rituals of divination, cleansing, healing and visions. Feathers may connect you with your own magical powers. Enjoy the magic of your chosen spiritual path!

Foot/feet As a symbol, your feet connect you to Mother Earth and your roots. Psychologically, if you have been feeling uncertain, the dream may present some options, giving you a sense of direction. Spiritually, the dream may suggest that you take one step at a time! Physically, your feet carry the weight of the body, thus it is important to look after them. Field It is interesting to note that when we talk about our professional experience, we refer to: medical, social, spiritual, or musical fields. So, what is your own area of work or interest? It is also possible that the dream helps you to contemplate other fields, or to explore your resources and potentials. What is the size of your field? Is it wide, open or narrow and shaded, green or dry? Link those questions to your working field: you may be surprised by what you uncover! Fight On one level, fighting may represent your basic instinct for survival, to defend yourself or your possessions. It can also suggest the build up of frustration and anger and the need to express those powerful emotions. Are you fighting your own limitations or external energies? Your answer will dictate your actions! Fire Fire is symbolically associated with the colour red, the heart and passion. Fire energy is very powerful and indicative of your motivation to succeed. However, fire can be destructive so keep it under control! Flying: In most dreams, flying represents the need for space and freedom. In dreams, anything is possible. Your unconscious mind may be helping you escape from your harsh daily reality. Alternatively,

‘F’

you may have experienced astral travelling! Flowers Flowers represent the feminine principle. They symbolise love, beauty and harmony. You may need to be reminded that those qualities are part of you. Flowers have also been associated to the soul of ancestors. Where did you smell that perfume before? Food Dreaming of food may be an unconscious message drawing your attention to your dietary requirement or habits. It is not unusual to either compensate or to release tension following excess. Do you feel intellectually full or frustrated? How can you feed your spiritual needs? Forests As a dark place, the forest symbolises the feminine principle and refers to your intuition. Perhaps you have recently been trying to make sense of childhood issues or past experiences. Alternatively, the forest may invite you to rest, to relax in a safe environment. You may feel the urge to develop latent psychic abilities! Friends Friends represent aspects of yourself and your interaction with others. An argument with a friend may be residual from a daily event and as such is a healthy way to release potentially blocked emotions. You need to know that you are not alone! Future If life has presented difficult challenges, then dreaming of the future may be a sign that you are ready to move on. The content of the dream may inspire you! However, you may also become aware that your dreams have premonitory qualities. Keep a dream journal to substantiate your experiences.

H

ave you ever woken up to find yourself floating above your body? Have you ever been visited by a loved one who has passed away? Have you ever healed or been healed via energies transmitted through the hands? Have you ever had insights into past lives or precognitions of future events while asleep? Vision has joined forces with the International Academy of Consciousness (IAC) to offer 3 places on its renowned Consciousness Development Program (CDP) which teaches participants the abilities to have and understand experiences such as those mentioned above - all of which are natural to the consciousness (soul, spirit) and form part of the process of expansion of awareness. Delivered in 4 modules of 10 hours each, the CDP blends theoretical classes on a wide range of fascinating paranormal phenomena. The course includes practical activities including exercises aimed at developing mastery of one’s bioenergy (chi, prana) and guided attempts to provoke lucid Out-of-Body Experiences.

Emphasis is given to the Out-of-Body Experience (OBE), a tool that can be used to advance personal growth and maturity as it allows individuals to put their current existence into a broader context to include multiple lives. Themes associated with this reality such as karma, the recall of past lives, non-physical dimensions, death and dying, healing, and assistance to physical and non-physical beings are also addressed in the CDP. Instructors often use examples and personal anecdotes to illustrate these subjects, which makes the CDP a compelling educational experience. The IAC is a non-profit worldwide organization dedicated to consciousness research and studies, offering courses in the UK, US, Australia, Spain, Portugal, Italy, the Netherlands, Finland and Mexico. Students who have already completed the CDP had this to say: “The CDP is highly recommended for anyone who desires to have more than just a glimpse behind the veil of mundane reality.” Heinrich Manuel Weihrauch, Frankfurt, Germany.

“Two weeks after I took the first CDP module, I had my first OBE: it shook my world! Since then my life has changed in almost every aspect. I feel inspired and spiritually guided on this new journey through life.” Anne-Marie Wegh, Delft, the Netherlands. Vision has 3 places on the CDP to give away worth £380 each. To enter, simply answer the following question: What is another word for bioenergy? Send your answer, name, address and daytime telephone number to: IAC CDP Comp, Vision, Amadeus House, 6 Lidgett Lane, Garforth, LS25 1EQ by August 17. Vision’s Managing Director Sammi Addey discovers the wonders of Quantum-Touch therapy.

Q

uantum-Touch therapy - it sounds like something from outer space doesn’t it? Well I discovered it is far from that, the exact opposite in fact, when I spent a two-day course discovering the basic techniques with practitioner David Ellis in Leeds. There are numerous ancient healing techniques out there so what is it about is this relatively modern one which makes it stand out from the rest? Quantum-Touch (QT) is what I would call the easiest, most basic, most acceptable healing technique I have seen so far and you can really feel it working all you need is imagination and a set of lungs! “Quantum-Touch therapy is a hands-on healing therapy that uses the principle of Chi breathing techniques to generate and move life-force energy around the practitioner’s body and into the client,” said David. The best way to approach it is to realize that your body heals itself. Have you ever stumped your toe and jumped around the room huffing and puffing, or been extremely angry with someone and been told to take a deep breath and count to ten? Expectant mothers are taught to ease labour pains by concentrating on their breathing. Quantum-Touch is basically that same technique. “Quantum-Touch boosts the client’s own energy to aid the client’s own healing abilities and their body intelligence,” said David. “It can be used simultaneously to

44 Vision 5

aid or enhance other forms of healing such as Reiki, Reflexology or Seichem. Quantum-Touch can also be done anywhere without the use of a practitioner’s table - clients can be stood up, sat down or laid down. “Practitioners are encouraged to work with the client, letting them be your guide to exactly where the healing is required and to chase the pain around the body until it is all gone. I have observed the relief of back and neck pain and the unlocking of troublesome clenched jaws.” David first took us through how the body heals itself. We all know that if we cut our finger, break a bone, pull a muscle or bruise a kidney; our body seems to know how to heal itself without any subconscious help from ourselves. So why can’t the body heal a headache, a frozen shoulder, backache, toothache, cancer, stress, or any emotional or psychical pain whenever we want? Well we can! Our breathing may be necessary to stay alive, but it’s also the one way that our body uses its own energy to heal itself. David told us of all the instances where people have been healed by QT and the proof was on videos that we were shown: people with uneven hips had them realigned and people with bowed legs had them straightened in a couple of hours! It really was quite amazing to see. As we finished watching the video we practiced the breathing techniques. We were also shown how to become aware of our own life-force energy. In Quantum-Touch, A Power to Heal, founder Richard Gordon explains: “Life-force energy is the energy that differentiates that which is living from that which is not. It is the animating current of life, the Chinese call it ‘Chi’, the Japanese call it ‘Ki’ and Indian Yogis have called it ‘Prana’. The irony is that all people actually feel the life-force within them every moment of every day. They are just not aware that they are feeling it. We just need to know how to look for it.” David showed us we were able to psychically feel and mentally see the energy moving around our bodies. We

were then shown the different breathing techniques before we combined them together to ‘run’ the energy. I realized by this stage that just because I couldn’t see the energy, didn’t mean that it was not there. I could feel tingling running around my body whenever I did the breathing techniques, so I had to believe it. “Quantum-Touch uses specialized breathing techniques to raise one’s vibration and generate an energy flow,” said David. “This higher vibrating energy is then sent to the person in need of healing via touch or thought. The receiving person is then attuned to this higher energy vibration. There are several techniques and variations so it is up to the practitioner to find which variation suits them and their client best.” The healing process takes place when one person combines these exercises to get their own energy flowing (this is called ‘running’ energy), then they touch or connect to a person who needs healing (who will have a lower energy state), which in turn brings their energies up to the healer’s level so that it is easier for their bodies to heal themselves. Then

came the best part - we got to use QT on each other. I was amazed! When 2 of the group ran their life-force energy on me, I felt the energy swirling and tingling around my body - but it felt as though it was on the inside! I emotionally felt calm until the other group members on concentrated my stomach (I hold a lot of emotions there). The only way that I can describe it is that I suddenly felt happy, content, overwhelmed and sad - all at the same time! I then started to feel a pulling sensation from inside! It started to become more intense but quickly disappeared. I really was shocked at how quickly it worked and how prominent it felt both physically and emotionally. I would recommend anyone to try a Quantum-Touch healing session, but moreso to learn the techniques of QT themselves. It is a fantastic way to keep on top of the stresses of everyday life and I do stress that it can be used on any person of any age. You can also use QT on babies, animals, food and plants. QT practitioners know no limits! Call David Ellis on 0774 690 4198 for details of courses or healing sessions.

D

etox is one of the great hypes of today! Everywhere you turn, the TV, our favourite magazines and even our friends, all tell us that detox is a must. But before you rush out for the latest fad diet, magic pill or goodness gracious - a length of hosepipe consider your options carefully. If you feel sluggish, stressed, hungover or unhappy about your health or appearance then you are probably suffering from some degree of toxin overload. You wouldn’t be alone. Studies show that there is a general social tendency to feel sicker, more sluggish and to have lower energy levels than ever before. Detox therapies are on the increase and their popularity has never been higher. Until fairly recently, the options have been various diets, food supplements, or the relatively focussed treatment of colonic irrigation (or enema). These treatments are not for the fainthearted, as they can demand a lot of time, effort and expense, and could leave you feeling more washed out than when you started. In a healthy body effective communication is managed via the proper flow of bio-electricity. If this flow is interrupted, then the body is less able to maintain health. Stressed lifestyles, injury and disease all play a major role in damaging cells so that their electrical potential is low, as can poor nutrition and the cumulative effects of a toxic environment. But this can all be remedied with a simple treatment administered via the feet! Aqua Cleanse™ Detox therapy creates a flow of electrons, which imparts a bio-energetic field into water, this travels through the body via the feet, stimulating circulation. This regulates

both the supply of oxygen and nutrients to the tissues and aids the proper excretion of waste products (toxins) out of the body. The body is therefore more likely to be healthy, allowing it to restore the natural healing energy levels. The Aqua Cleanse™ Detox System utilises patented Q-Tronics technology, which was developed on the basis of over 150 years of research by scientists around the world. Dr Roberto Ciaff, senior research scientist and

inventor of the Q-Tronics family, who qualified in medicine and surgery in the eighties, moved on to become a clinical scientist and regularly lectures around the world on his discoveries. Dr Ciaff has worked in research and development areas for over a decade, and continues to develop and design revolutionary technologies for all healthcare sectors. He has successfully gained recognition from a wide range of medical and scientific experts.

Part of this new diverse technology, used in the Aqua Cleanse™ Detox System was first introduced as a variation Iontophoresis treatment for hyperhidrosis sufferers in the early eighties. Dr Ciaff has discovered how to improve the comfort and further the Q-Tronics range of associated benefits, which are now used in a number of different applications, including lymph stimulation for drainage and overall well-being. The treatment is very straightforward: The recipient immerses their feet in a bowl of warm water containing the Aqua Cleanse™ Array; Salt is added and the therapist checks the water level; The recipient sits back & relaxes for 30 minutes whilst the Aqua Cleanse™ Equipment completes its treatment cycle; Circulation is stimulated, allowing cells to release toxins and re-balancing begins in the body;

The ionised water reacts and begins to darken, showing excreted toxins and lymphatic fat; The effects of the therapy continue in the days following treatment, as additional toxins are excreted in urine and stool; Well-being is enhanced even from the first treatment; A course of 6 treatments, over 3 to 6 weeks is recommended for optimum self-detoxification. Before the first therapy, the recipient will receive a free consultation. They then remove their footwear, put their bare feet into a bath of warm water and relax. Our equipment does the rest of the work. The detoxification and rebalancing system is then explained, in easy to understand language. The recipient will be offered a free cup of detox tea or a glass of water along with friendly advice on other simple and accessible ways of helping to detoxify and re-balance the system.

The symptoms of many common ailments can be combated through this treatment including: Arthritis - mobility of joints can be improved; Insomnia - a clearer, lighter mind helps to relax; Circulation - cleansing of the body improves circulation; Headaches - relieves headaches and hangovers; Metabolism - enhances the body's performance; Skin problems - clears skin and improves skintone; Menstrual pain - reduces pain and discomfort; Your well-being - improved energetic flow; Liver and kidney function - refreshes vital organs; Balance in the whole body - the body works in harmony.

Safety notice Aqua Cleanse™ Detox Therapy uses the Bio-Energiser system, invented and developed by Dr. Roberto Ciaff of Xecare Ltd. Beware of expensive imitations. If you are offered treatment by any other type of equipment it is worth checking to find out if it is a medical product and has passed strict safety testing standards. Willow Lodge Healing Therapies in Staffordshire offers the only official Aqua Cleanse™ Therapist training available in the UK, including a centralised enquiry and booking service, advertising and marketing materials, and huge discounts on related products. Antonia Behan talks to Hali, a lady whose passion for belly dancing took on a whole new light after a life-changing trip to Egypt.

A

trip to Egypt was the catalyst for a 54-year-old property developer’s brush with spirituality. Hali, a lady with a life-long dream to be a dancer, visited Luxor last year and it was during that trip that she realised destiny was calling her. Hali, aka Heather Behan, of Ashley Green, Buckinghamshire, had always been fascinated by Egypt. Finally her curiosity took her to Luxor where she explored the temples of ancient pharaohs. During her stay, Hali was drawn to Karnak, which used to be the heart of the ancient world; the temple was a sanctum for the priests. When she arrived, a deep sense of stillness and tranquillity overcame her; it was as if something magical was in the air. “It was like I’d been here before. Everything went quiet and although I couldn’t see anyone around, I had a feeling I was not alone,” she said. “I knew the spirit world had come close, but I did not know why. “I have always felt a connection with Egypt,” she said. “While I was there, something happened to give me the confidence and ability to dance. I have been told by a number of people that I walk the path of a healer. Well maybe it is through dancing that I help people heal and this is why I was led to Egypt - it was my destiny.” Later, Hali headed back to Luxor, where the clubs and restaurants brought her back down to earth. As Hali watched a belly dancing show, a strong urge to dance welled up inside her. Minutes later she was invited onto the stage to dance with the performer. Hali had taken classes back home but only been dancing for a few months: even so, the moves came naturally and the performer inside was finally born. “When I returned to England I discovered that I could do complicated

48 Vision 5

movements that I had never been taught and that dancing came so naturally it was as if I had been dancing all my life,” she said. “It felt like something was telling me I was destined to do this.” Hali continued her Egyptian belly dancing classes with professional belly dancer Tejal in Chesham, Bucks, when she returned to this country. She originally took up belly dancing to help her get fit, develop a social life and allow her to dance. “In the beginning I enjoyed having coffee with the other ladies after the class. That’s when I realised I was also looking for a social life too. I had brought up a family, been divorced many years and just wanted to do something for me,” she said. “I took to it immediately and it is great exercise. It makes me feel good about myself,” she said. The proper name for belly dancing is actually Oriental Dance and there are many different types as well as theories as to its origins. Some people

believe it to be a dance of seduction, however, essentially it is a Middle Eastern folk dance which was traditionally performed at parties or celebrations. There is also the theory that it was devised to help women prepare their abdominal muscles for birth, but crucially it is a form of entertainment/celebration. Belly dancing has many healing properties: it is good for the spine, helps energy flow through the body, and improves posture and breathing. “Belly dancing is a spectacle of colour, sound and dance,” she said. “It touches many senses in a truly exotic fashion; a sensuous and stunning show performed in a truly professional fashion to bring joy and uplift people. It makes them smile and forget about their illnesses, worries or problems for a while.” The beautiful costumes are another aspect which attracted Hali to belly dancing. She visited souks (indoor markets) in local towns around Luxor,

where she found stalls piled high with exotic Egyptian and Turkish material of beautifully vibrant colours. She also ventured into Istanbul to explore the markets. Hali admits that she was slightly intimidated when she first saw her teacher dance. “When I saw my teacher, Tejal, dance, I thought that I would never be able to do what she does, she is just amazing! I didn’t think I would ever get up on stage and perform in front of an audience - I initially just wanted to dance for myself!” But after 3 years of training, Hali was ready to dance on a professional level - she can be seen regularly dancing in fashionable London boutique Red Sparrow, just off Carnaby Street, on promotional days and she also dances for private events and parties. She admits though that she was nervous the first time she danced in front of anyone: “It was nerve-wracking before I went on, but as I danced it just felt so natural to me. I really enjoyed it.” Although Hali doesn’t attend classes any longer, she still attends workshops, events and shows around the country and abroad to keep abreast of changes in fashion, music and moves. She recommends belly dancing to women everywhere: “It’s fantastic and great for your confidence. Belly dancing is a celebration of the feminine, helping you embrace your body no matter what your shape or size; it makes you feel good about yourself”. Belly dancing is suitable for women of all shapes, ages and sizes. Belly dancing celebrates you as a woman and your body as a temple, whatever shape or size you may be. It is good fun and anyone can do it!

by Catherine Vander Cammen and Clare Sheridan.

I

t has been speculated that clear quartz crystal was an integral part of the lost city of Atlantis. Much of the city’s power was reportedly harnessed from crystals - however, ironically, there is also speculation that crystals were part of the city’s ultimate downfall. There was reputedly a great crystal pyramid in the centre of the city which had a movable capstone used to concentrate rays of energy to various parts of the city and countryside. The crystal was utilized by the city’s spiritual inhabitants for meditation and healing, later it was used to physically power vehicles as well as rejuvenate the inhabitants’ physical bodies - they could

50 Vision 5

maintain a youthful appearance and yet live for hundreds of years. But as the Atlanteans became more power hungry, the energies of the crystal were tuned by the city’s less spiritual inhabitants - to more destructive frequencies - which supposedly led to the city’s destruction via volcanic eruptions and floods from melted icecaps. The Atlanteans meditated with crystals and used them for healing purposes too much as we do today. The last decade has witnessed a growing interest in the use of crystals. Clear quartz can be used to boost body energy, clarify thoughts,

connect with spiritual masters and teachers, and even create altered states of consciousness - which would have been ideal for Atlanteans. A new crystal has also recently been discovered called Atlantisite (Stichtite in Serpentine rock - pictured left). There is no conclusive proof that this is connected to the lost city, however, the crystal can promote expansion of awareness, calmness, reduce stress and balance emotions it can also encourage gentleness and peace. Strawberry Quartz has, however, also been associated with Atlantis. This rare strawberry-coloured quartz was used in

healing ceremonies and was believed to be held by members of the high council to stimulate recall of ‘the beginning’. It reputedly fills a person with love. The crystal larimar (pictured below right) is often referred to as the Atlantis Stone, and is mined in a remote part of the Dominican Republic. Edgar Cayce put forward the theory that Atlantis may be somewhere in the Caribbean, and he also indicated that a blue stone with extraordinary healing properties would be found there - could that be larimar? As far as healing properties are concerned, larimar corresponds to the throat, third eye and crown chakras and can help communication in relationships, encourage tolerance, help ease depression, calm fears, bring tranquillity and ease stress. It is so powerful that it

can soothe sunburn, immediately relieve physical pain when placed on the affected area of the body, and even help with the common cold! The beauty and purity of clear quartz makes it easy to work with for a wide range of purposes - mostly meditation. Whatever form or shape, each crystal stores its own individual energy. When you feel ready to choose a crystal, apply the following principles: concentrate on how you feel, listen to your inner voice and finally, take your time. Many people say the crystal chooses them! If you want to use the crystal for meditation purposes, try to choose one that has not been tampered with by humans! Respect the crystal as a living being. Set aside approximately one hour in the evening to be with your crystal. Choose a quiet room and ensure that no

disruption will affect your session. Sit or lie down comfortably with the crystal resting next to you. Close your eyes and allow yourself to be receptive to the crystal energy. Gradually let go of any fears, tension or anxiety. Relax your body. Do not worry if you fall asleep - you can always repeat the exercise later! Each crystal stores its own mysteries. Do not be afraid to ask the crystal about its origins and its history. Be open and accept the images, sensations or thoughts presented to you! Remember, your crystal has an abundance of life force energy. Its presence can help you preserve or restore your own energy levels. If your intentions are pure, the crystal will share with you its knowledge and wisdom. Once you feel attuned you can start working with your crystal. The following meditation is for guidance only. If you wish to record it… make sure you read it slowly (punctuation indicates a pause).

Quartz and Atlantisite crystals provided courtesy of The Holistic Experience shop, Garforth, Leeds. Visit www.theholisticexperience.com

A crystal meditation You may wish to close your eyes. Let go of all tension… and anxiety. Breathe slowly and gently…allowing yourself to relax…to rest. You feel calm and peaceful. Imagine your crystal growing….getting bigger…and bigger. You may wish to get closer…touch its surface. Feel its energy…it is so beautiful. You notice an opening…it is an invitation. Slowly you enter the crystal…it is larger than you thought. You stand in front of a shining surface…where you can see yourself clearly. As you continue to look at your reflection…you are made aware of who you are; your strengths and limitations; your likes or dislikes…yet…you feel a sense of deep love…as you have never felt before. You become aware of a presence. A form appears…like a cloud…radiating light and love. It is the spirit of the crystal…the Keeper...smiling at you. You feel so much love. You speak with the Keeper…not with words…but telepathically. The Keeper comes closer…you can smell his perfume…you can feel his touch. The Keeper invites you to look at your image again…all the feelings of self-doubt, the negative thoughts…slowly fade away. Gradually you begin to feel stronger…more confident…healthier. The Keeper’s energies are all around you…powerful energies…of forgiveness…acceptance…and unconditional love.

You know that now is the time to resolve unfinished business…to heal old wounds…to forgive others…to reconnect with your Higher Self. As you allow that process to take place… peeling off layers of unnecessary burdens...you feel protected, supported…and so loved. You are in harmony with all living beings…with the wider universe. Now you can see the core of yourself…your soul. Acknowledge how pure and beautiful you are. Stay there as long as you wish to fully appreciate the moment. When you are ready thank the Keeper…and leave the crystal. You feel so positive! You may want to hold your crystal for a while…a symbolic way to integrate a wonderful experience! When you have completed this exercise, drink a glass of water… and go to sleep. Enjoy a peaceful night full of beautiful dreams!

John Addey undertakes a Colour Breathing™ Practitioner course.

Above: Colour Breathing™ founder Alison Bourne (green jumper) with the practitioner trainees in Barnsley. Below right and opposite page, top: Trainees get to grips with the therapy.

I

t was hard to imagine that colour could change my life as I sat in Elsecar Heritage Centre car park at 9am one frosty Saturday morning. But that was exactly what happened when I attended a two-day Colour Breathing™ Practitioner Course, just outside Barnsley, West Yorkshire. My 11 fellow trainees came from a wide range of backgrounds and professions: telesales, teaching, the medical arena, and of course, other complementary therapies. Applicants were carefully selected and had to submit their CVs before they were considered to train. We were all there for one reason: to train as practitioners in the pioneering new therapy Colour Breathing™. Recently accepted by the British Complementary Medicine Association (BCMA) as a therapy in its own right, Colour Breathing™ has been researched and formulated over the past 7 years by founder and course leader Alison Bourne. This fully certified practitioner course took 2 years to formulate and is an invaluable way of using colour to heal.

52 Vision 5

Practitioners use a range of merchandise during the therapy including a specially created set of disks, a book, a CD of original music and affirmation cards. “Colour Breathing™ is an exciting new relaxation technique, using seven compelling, concentric circles of pure colour, known as Colour Breathing Disks™,” explained Alison. “Colour is a healing vibration in itself. The disks are based on the seven major chakra energy centres along our spinal columns. Widely documented for over 5,000 years, these energy centres act as receptors and conductors of energy - including colours - and are known to affect our state of mental, emotional and physical health. “We use the set of the Colour Breathing™ Disks as a tool to focus on, following our natural breathing pattern

and using affirmative and positive words such as I am calm’.” After initial introductions, Alison guided us through some breathing techniques and the importance of correct posture - we covered many postures and breathing techniques. These are vital to ensure that any clients can integrate into the therapy and benefit fully from the deep relaxation it brings. Then after initial grounding and chakra exercises, it was our turn to use the Colour Breathing™ disks. We carried

out individual and group exercises with them - we all envisaged various things when we focussed on each of the seven colours. Some people thought of objects when they looked at certain colours, while deep emotions were triggered in other trainees. During a Colour Breathing™ treatment, the client calms their breathing and focuses on each of the seven colours. The client then visualizes themselves ‘breathing’ in each colour, while simultaneously thinking of positive affirmations or focusing on problems they would like rectifying. Each coloured disk relates to different parts of the body and can help with specific physical or emotional problems. Red can help with bone problems and improve expression and ambition. Orange can help with problems of the kidneys and bladder, or help remove fear. Yellow can help with digestive, liver and spleen problems, and can boost self-esteem and inner calm. Green can help with the lungs and can boost love and understanding. Blue can help with throat problems and can also boost a sense of calm, communication and patience. Purple relates to the sinuses, the face and the eyes and can help boost understanding, harmony and intuition. Magenta relates to the central nervous system and can help boost a sense of unity and promote a lack of ego. One of the most surprising aspects of the first day for me was the fact that I was so relaxed by the end of it, I could see Alison’s aura or energy field a green glow around her when she moved in a particular way. This was testimony to just how calming the treatment is: and it is just as relaxing for the practitioner as it is for the client. On the Sunday we tested out our new-found skills and tried the relaxation techniques on each other. We all did

remarkably well. Our one-to-one sessions sent me into such a relaxed state - you become really calm and can feel the benefits straight away, as opposed to some other relaxation techniques which can take a while to take effect. Colour Breathing™ Practitioners can conduct one-to-one sessions, but also classes of up to 20 people. The therapy is also used in selected state schools across the country as part of the Discovery Emotional Intelligence project, to help children think positively about themselves and to help them relax. It is also being used in a Kuwait school. As well as the finer aspects of the therapy itself, we also covered rules and regulations, licensing, stock, code of conduct and health and safety issues. But that is not the end of the training each prospective practitioner has to successfully complete a 30-question assessment paper before they are granted a licence to practice the therapy. This vibrant and thorough

course was exceptionally well run, informative and although it was intensive, was also great fun. Colour Breathing™ is a therapy which relaxes as well as heals. As someone new to therapy training, I can recommend this one and hope to use it myself on a Practitioner basis. Colour Breathing™ has a wide range of benefits and can be used by children as well as adults. Anyone can use it to during stressful situations or to deal with anxiety, to help them relax and also to think more positively about themselves. But the real beauty of Colour Breathing is that anyone can learn the technique, and it can be utilized to positive effect anywhere at any time. So now when someone tells you to add some colour to your life - you can! A two-day fully certified Colour Breathing™ Practitioner course costs £395. Medical research scientist Dr Horace Dobbs, author of Dolphin Healing, reveals the amazing healing properties of dolphins.

he Atlanteans supposedly had a close bond with dolphins: it has been suggested that the Atlanteans could talk to them via images projected into their minds, that the Atlanteans could reincarnate as dolphins if they wished, and there is even the theory that dolphins hold the key to the location of the lost city. Dolphins are special creatures and their healing properties revered - so special, that to kill one was punishable by death in ancient Greece. Dolphins have brains as large and more highly evolved than those of humans. I founded the Oxford Underwater Research Group and spent a decade in orthodox medical research. The chance to use a dolphin as an experimental animal appealed. However, when I met Donald - the dolphin who gave my son a ride in 1974 - he soon put that idea out of my head and changed my life. In the sea the dolphin was in charge. Every experiment I tried, the dolphin either ignored or turned into a game. His obvious intelligence gave me a completely new perspective on life. Donald started me on a journey that became ever more spiritual as it went along. I made a groundbreaking TV program Ride a Wild Dolphin and wrote a couple of books, Follow a Wild Dolphin and Save the Dolphins (Souvenir Press) about our antics together. In 1978 I set up the International Dolphin Watch (IDW), a charity dedicated to conserving dolphins and exploring their relationships with humans. Subsequent encounters with various friendly wild dolphins led to more questions than answers. When ME sufferer Wendy Huntington swam in the sea surrounded by dolphins, which she could hear but not see, her symptoms vanished. We know that sound plays a vital role in the lives of dolphins. Most of their vocalisations are outside the range of human hearing. Dolphins use ultrasound for “seeing inside objects using frequencies similar to those used for scanning pregnant mothers. Ultrasounds are also employed therapeutically in hospitals - for accelerating the healing of

bruises - so do the dolphins generate selected frequencies with which they bombard us, perhaps producing cavitation that fractures molecules and could bring about biochemical changes in our bodies? It is a nice theory, but it doesn’t satisfy all the facts. We know, for instance, that visual images of dolphins on film, or artists’ impressions, with no sound whatsoever, can change our moods. Such experiences can be accounted for by the release of endorphins - naturally occurring chemicals that make us feel happy. So sound is not the only explanation. Nonetheless, music and other clearly audible sounds related to the dolphins, including the human voice, can have a powerful influence on our lives. Another possible explanation is that dolphin encounters, both real and virtual, are connected in some way with the essential life force - chi or ki - which is the cornerstone of Chinese medicine. This could be validated if we could measure chi scientifically, but we can’t. So oriental methods, which are undoubtedly effective in many instances, remain suspect by those with Western minds conditioned to demand reductive scientific evidence before they accept validity. However, we now know that our bodies are run by electricity - EEGs and ECGs are standard tools in medical practice. But before Michael Faraday demonstrated electricity there is no way that anyone could have understood the vital role electricity plays in our bodily

functions. I suggest that a similar situation now applies to dolphin healing. How dolphin healing works remains a controversial and tantalising mystery. But the fact that we cannot produce a cast iron scientific explanation does not defy its existence. As I progressed along my dolphin trail I gathered and reported instances of dolphins helping people through traumatic periods in their lives.

wild dolphin swimming around the British Isles - and he’d taken up residence in Dingle Bay, South West Ireland. The situation was made more difficult by the fact that I resolved not to work with captive dolphins. Any studies I conducted had to be done with wild dolphins: it had to be their choice, not mine, who they interacted with. Clearly no chemicals are directly exchanged during a dolphin encounter, as they would have been if a herbal remedy had been ingested. Whatever takes place has spiritual elements to it that affect the human mind. What was needed was some kind of dolphin pill that captured their spiritual healing! It was the Australian aborigines who gave me the inspiration for my next step - a sound pill. In the Dolphin Dreamtime tape, which uses music and voiceover, the listener is taken

Swimming with a wild dolphin could undoubtedly bring benefits to those suffering from clinical depression.

At first they didn’t make sense. My breakthrough came in 1986 when I saw the effect swimming with a dolphin had on Bill Bowell - a clinical depressive who had been unable to work for 12 years. The study I set up was called ‘Operation Sunflower’. My conclusion found that swimming with a wild dolphin could undoubtedly bring benefits to those suffering from clinical depression. I was delighted at the outcome. But its success left me with a huge dilemma: at the time it was estimated that 1 person in 10 in Britain would need some form of psychiatric help at some point in their lives: up to 5 million Brits could benefit directly from swimming with a dolphin. Unfortunately we had only one friendly

on a mental journey/visualisation into the world of dolphins. I saw how it worked in Australia and tried it out at a lecture I gave at the College of Psychic Studies in London - everyone in the room had an out-of-body dolphin experience! I knew immediately that I had my equivalent to a dolphin pill! IDW distributed tapes and assessment forms far and wide to those with clinical depression to investigate the benefits. I was encouraged in my research by the Applied Psychology Unit of the Medical Research Council in Cambridge, and later analysis of my results by the Department of Psychology at Swansea University concluded that 70 per cent of those who had listened to the tape had benefited in some way. Now

Dolphin Dreamtime has a well established place in the treatment of many conditions ranging from insomnia, exam stress, ME and depression, to pain relief in childbirth. I was also interested in the role dolphins could play in helping children with neurological disorders. My visit to a captive facility in Florida showed clearly the extent to which children with Down’s Syndrome and other problems could be helped. Dolphin swims were certainly not a magical cure, but they did bring benefits to the children and to those who cared for them. Once again, however, there were snags. Firstly, they involved captive dolphins - to which I was utterly opposed. Secondly, they were extremely expensive. Visits to Japan to study and explore Oriental medicine revealed to me that visual images could also be used to capture the spiritual essence of dolphins. Subsequent events demonstrated beyond all doubt that pictures and stories about a make-believe dolphin I created called Dilo, had all the qualities needed to help children. With 4 books in print and

another in which Dilo discovers Atlantis (not yet published), I had more than enough material to work with. The challenge was to put it all together in a form in which it could be used therapeutically. The solution came to me when I reviewed an experiment conducted at a Dolph in Healing Conference at Regent’s Park College in London in 1996. There we created a dolphin healing space inside a dome on stage. From this the concept of developing a portable dome in which children could experience the healing power of dolphins evolved. And in due course the ‘Dilo Dome’ was born. The ‘Dilo Dome’ is now at a stage where we have a prototype that has already proved to be extremely attractive to children of all abilities, including those with special needs. It is a place of total freedom where their minds can wander. Stimulated by pictures and/or sounds, children can enter the magical, undersea kingdom of Dilo the dolphin. For children with neurological disorders such as Asperger’s Syndrome, who become distressed when faced with new

surroundings, the Dilo Dome is a safe haven in which they can feel secure. The ‘Dilo Dome’ recreates elements of these effects via a process similar to that in which the active components of willow bark have been captured and reproduced in the form of Aspirin and its derivatives. An enthusiastic team is now working towards the day when the benefits of dolphin encounters can be made available at affordable prices to children around the world. Contact with dolphins, both real and imaginary, affects the human mind in many mysterious and wide-ranging ways. A lifting of the human spirit is almost universal. Some experience unconditional love, often accompanied by the release of suppressed emotions: in others the effects are subconscious - but they cannot be denied.

Casting A Magical Circle

W

e’re already over half way through the year; doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun?! At this time of year we need to look at our surroundings and help nature get through these warmer months. I know many will be enduring hosepipe bans at the moment and your plants and grass will suffer – but look deeper, there are things below the vegetation that need our help. Leave water out for small animals: frogs, toads, hedgehogs and birds. Spend time really getting close to the warm and sweetly-scented earth. Take your children or just yourself out into the woods for a walk and check out how Mother Nature is dealing with this weather, but take care to protect yourselves and your loved ones from the powerful rays of the sun. Enjoy your holidays and don’t forget to park your broomstick legally when you arrive at your destination!

Georgia.

A circle is cast before performing ritual or magical work and it’s specifically carried out to create a boundary around the area you’re working in to keep out negative energies. Always ensure that you have all the equipment you’ll need before you cast your circle, as closing it and then re-casting can be a long process. The energy that creates the circle comes directly from us. We are all the elements in one; our breath is air, our blood is water, our flesh is earth and our spirit is fire. We can, however, use tools such as an Athame (a ritual knife) for cutting the parameter of the circle in the air, or a wand to pass the energy around the edge of the circle. The method I’m going to explain to you is much simpler and can be used when indoors, outdoors and even if you’re away from home. Close your eyes and imagine the boundary of the area in which you’re about to work. All of the elements must move around you clockwise starting from the north. If you’re in the southern hemisphere, it’s anti-clockwise. Face north and feel the earth beneath your feet; visualize it enfolding you in a protective cocoon, imagine how it smells and feels around you and thank it for being present. Face east and call in the wind. As it blows gently on your face, imagine it creating a circle around you and thank it for being present. Face south and feel fire warming you all

over, making a beautiful glow around you and thank it for its presence. Face west and imagine soft waves of water splashing gently over you, making your circle of light stronger and thank it for being present. See all of these things protecting you in a circle and ask to be surrounded by love and light. Say these words: “As above, so below – this circle is sealed. So mote it be!” Then you’re ready to begin your magical practice or ritual. Closing Your Circle Closing your circle of protection is as important as opening it. Once again I want you to visualize all of the elements, this time moving the elements in reverse order in an anti-clockwise direction. Face west and see the water washing away from you and thank it for being present. Face south, close your eyes and imagine seeing the glow of the fire disappearing and thank it for being present. Face east and feel the wind blowing away and thank it for being present. Finally, face north and ask that the earth move away from around you, and thank it for being present. See all of these things leaving you, and your circle of light slowly diminishing. Say these words: “Circle be closed but never broken,” and you have finished. Other implements you can use to cast a circle are crystals, candles or even ribbons to represent the colours of the elements. However you decide to cast your circle, enjoy your magic and be safe.

My secret

I have been a practicing witch now for 2 years. I share a flat in London with my friend but she doesn’t know what I do or am and I prefer it that way, but I want to be able to have an altar in my room without worrying about questions from her and my friends. What can I do? Liz, West London. Georgia says: This is a very common problem. The answer lies in a question: what is an altar? We see so many pictures of elaborate tables with massive candles and statues, substantial bunches of flowers and much more, and they are beautiful. But the truth of the matter is that any windowsill, flat surface or even a bookshelf will do. This is your place and your sacred space so you need to put on it what feels comfortable to you.

An example of a simple altar:

A pentacle (a five-pointed star inside a circle) - a point of meditation and centre piece; A candle to symbolise the element of fire; A sea shell to symbolise the element of water; A feather, or incense stick/cone to symbolise the element of air; A crystal to symbolise the element of earth; A symbol of the goddess/god - this is often a statue or picture but you could also draw your own image on a stone or piece of paper. Now you have a basic altar. Add a picture of loved ones or Colin Farrell, depending on whom you love the most! Add a plant to honour nature and then you have a very typical shelf display. These are things that anyone might have - little mementos from visits or journeys, etc. You can now use this space every day to communicate with your goddess/god or just meditate if you like. When you’re ready to perform some magic on a ritual night, you can get your other tools out.

Bath time special

I used to have a terrible time getting my son to take a bath; it was the same routine every night - tears, screaming and a lot of kicking. I really started to lose the will and started to learn to live with a smelly kid! Then I decided that magic wasn’t only going to help me make my life better - as it had for many years - it could help me bath my child! I gathered together some chamomile incense, a clear quartz crystal and a lot of faith. I started to chant in the bathroom as I burned the incense and held the crystal: Bath times come with laughter and joy, Soap and water to wash this boy, Chamomile for peace and tranquillity, Quartz for calm and serenity, Mixed together the perfect spell, And free me from this screaming hell! I did this for 2 weeks, every day before bath time and now we seem to have things under control, so magic can even save a poor mother from madness! Stephanie, Wellingborough. Georgia says: People often see magic as an answer only to love, career and wealth matters - they forget to use it in every aspect of their lives. Making magic can help you find a plumber or get a taxi in the rain, as long as your intentions are good you can’t go wrong. Well done! I can imagine that sales of chamomile incense will skyrocket to both magical and non-magical mothers! Tips Use your imagination. If you can think it, you can normally make it happen. So be creative and magic will never become boring. Tell us how spells have changed your life, and each month the prize spell wins a personalised spell kit from For The Witch In You to the value of £49.99. Visit www.forthewitchinyou.co.uk

TIP Respect the feelings of others. You may want to tell the world that you’re a witch, but is the world ready to listen? Even in this modern era of witchcraft and paganism, some people still don’t understand the concepts and they need to be treated with respect and understanding, in much the same way that you wish to be treated by them. Try and find ways to slowly introduce them to the fact that you are what you are, but only if you think they’re ready. Do be prepared for disappointment as not everyone will understand

The Witches’ Kitchen Each month we’ll bring you tips on herbs and their magical and healing properties for you to build up your own witches’ kitchen.

Peppermint Witches use peppermint in dream pillows to induce a sleep that will reveal their true love. Peppermint is sacred to the Hecate; also know as the Goddess of the Witches. When feeling nauseous, inhale the scent of freshly crushed peppermint leaves to clear your head. Peppermint will bring the fresh smell of summer into your home, and mixed in with other flowers, makes a wonderfully scented altar display.

ould the lost civilisation of Atlantis have disappeared into a watery grave due to the antics of the moon and tides - or was it an earthquake? At present it is not known exactly what happened or where it was, some say it is in the Bermuda Triangle, others Cyprus. Many lost civilisations had great astrological knowledge and predicted their own demise. Atlanteans seemed ignorant of its destruction beneath the waves. The waves and tides are governed by the moon and its phases (the amount of moon that is shown to us) through the illumination of the sun and its position in relation to the earth. The moon is not only responsible for the movement of water on the earth, the content and the cycles of growth in plant life and animals, but also our feelings and responses to situations through our moon signs. The movement of water on earth is seen in the tidal changes, which are their greatest at new and full moons. This also affects the water content in all plants and living things as well as the oceans of the world. The new moon is the best time to start a project or plant crops, whereas the full moon is the best time to gather the crops. The full moon has a great pull on the emotions of people which is felt as restlessness. The tides are even greater during an eclipse. The solar eclipse is when the moon passes between the earth and sun on the same latitude and longitude degree.

60 Vision 5

The lunar eclipse is when the earth is between the sun and moon on the same degree of latitude and longitude and lasts much longer than the solar eclipse. Both eclipses cause larger tides especially when they occur at the spring and autumn equinox, creating huge swells in the water flow, causing floods on low ground and around rivers. The last flood in India before the recent tsunami was caused by this phenomena. It is possible that the pull of the moon on the earth at one of these times could have caused disturbances in the water content beneath the earth’s crust, promoting an earthquake, resulting in a Tsunami that swept away Atlantis or caused it to sink beneath the waves. The moon is a formidable force in nature. Our feelings are governed by the moon and its pull on the earth, this can be seen in the way we act with others. Our moon sign is often felt and shown as strongly as our sun sign which is not always obvious to people. It is part of our character makeup and is often quite different to our sun sign expression. When the moon is full and eclipsed by the sun, feelings are more intense and tearful. The tides are high the rivers will overflow and the seas swell spilling over the coastland creating floods. Your moon sign is complicated to determine and depends on many variables - it is not necessarily the same as your usual sun sign, however, perhaps you can recognise yourself in one of the moon sign positions detailed right?

I

August forecast

know that this might seem a bit boring but there doesn’t seem to be anything of great event or significance falling into place in August. Overall it’s a calm and productive month with good progress made on the work scene and some really nice vibes (what a corny old cliché) affecting affairs of the heart. On the slightly negative side we could have a few ruffled feathers with elderly parents and we might have a wee bit of concern for a child’s welfare, and okay, some travel plans may have to be postponed – but this all seems to be low key and parochial and not anything that is going to affect your life much one way or the other. A boost to your levels of financial confidence may well cause you to start planning something different and rather more ambitious for your longterm future and something significant in connection with property will fall into

place between the 22nd and the 29th. Cash & career: After some of the troubles and turbulence experienced in July, August brings greater calm and stability, and although you’re not entirely out of the woods just yet you should be on track to finding more respect and reward in all things connected with business and careers. August 7th brings a letter or an email (okay maybe just a phone call) that puts a smile on your face and gives you the green light to put some key plans into action by the 13th or 14th. Between the 15th and the 30th someone either leaves or quits your place of work which is an absolute blessing. The atmosphere should change almost overnight once this nasty troublemaker makes their exit. If some travel plans have to be delayed or even cancelled during the last week of the month because of work commitments, try to be philosophical and don’t get your knickers in a twist. This is a small sacrifice to pay for the overall strengthening of your position at work and what you don’t spend you can shove into the bank or

23 July - 22 Aug

your sock for the rainy days of the autumn.

Romance & relationships: Affairs of the heart appear to be pleasantly stable throughout the month of August and if there are any problems they should only be the trivial upsets that happen in everyone’s day-to-day lives. A reunion with an old friend in the first few days of the month could quite easily arouse a partner’s suspicions and bring their jealous streak into focus, but this is quite silly and can be nipped in the bud with a couple of kisses and a cuddle. On a cautionary note, if someone is coming to stay for a few nights beneath your roof, make sure that it is only for a few nights; anything longer could upset the finely tuned balance of your domestic routines. Marginally on the same note this would be quite a good time to keep parents-in-law at arms length and to make a point of finding and enjoying some real quality time for yourself and a partner. Some concern about children – perhaps their behaviour or possibly some of the friends they are keeping – will creep in around the 23rd. Don’t over-react to this, but do pay it some attention.

T

August forecast

here is a definite energy of change invading the House of Virgo this month – it may be subtle and not always easy to identify, but it is there, working away in the background and opening your senses to new possibilities and options for your future. Yes, it can work the other way too, causing you to experience some discontent with your lot, but if that pushes towards changing a few things yourself, even if it is only in your mind and imagination, then perhaps it is no bad thing. Some of us find we can only look a few weeks or months into our future, but at this point in time Virgos will be looking into the longer-term future, say the next five or six years, considering changes of address, changes of nation, and changes of family status. This is a deeply personal process, not openly shared with others, and therefore other people around you may think you’re in a bit of a mood right

64 Vision 5

23 Aug - 22 Sept

now. This isn’t the case, you’re just doing a lot of thinking and you’re keeping your thoughts to yourself. Cash & career: You may find yourself having to make one or two awkward decisions throughout August – awkward because you’ll not quite know what to do for the best and there are two clearly defined pathways. I get the feeling that the choice may well be between “do I stay where I am” or “do I take a risk and branch out with something different?” As my old granny used to say “when in doubt do nowt” and oddly enough, that advice may serve you well at this time. Either way, you shouldn’t allow yourself to be pushed or bullied into something that you’re not sure about and if someone is absolutely adamant that a decision has got to be made, let them make it and be responsible for the consequences. Finances seem strong enough, although there could be some heavy spending between the 14th and the 22nd and whether you want it or not, some extra responsibility will be placed upon your shoulders between the 23rd and the 30th.

On the work scene some of you may wonder what the hell your boss is doing, which is hardly surprising because he (or she) hasn’t got a clue either.

Romance & relationships:

A partner’s ‘in your face’ attitude will do one of two things: either it will cause you to feel needed, loved and protected, or it’s going to make you feel very hemmed in and claustrophobic. How you deal with this depends on what kind of Virgo you are and what you’re looking for at this time in your life. Certainly there can be no doubt about a partner’s passions and desires, and there can be no doubt about their degree of commitment – the thing is, can you match it? If yes, all is okay, if not then there will be some tense and stand-offish moments creeping into the romantic scheme of things before the month is out. Female Virgos should be wary of advice from their mothers or an older female relative with an agenda of their own and male members of the sign should apply a little patience and diplomacy in getting what they want from their relationships, especially if we’re talking about young and new relationships.

A

ugust is a messy month with no clear priority making its presence felt. On the one hand there’s a lot of gossip and intrigue going on at work with changes and reshuffles all over the place, and on the home front too it seems like there’s a lot of talk but no action. Where sex is concerned, again there’s a lot of talk, but not much physical contact – either you’re too old, too young or too tired – which is a shame on all counts! Librans who long for the quiet life will have their wishes granted in full, but those of you who are looking for some excitement may well be disappointed. The stupid thing here though is that even in the face of some of the excitement you crave, when it’s actually offered, you turn it down with the lamest of pathetic excuses. Watch out for an engagement or wedding invitation during the last week of the month, and if you think the couple are either too young or too old to be doing this kind of thing, be kind and keep your mouth shut. At least they’re doing something, which is more than you are. Cash & career: Some changes at the top of the career ladder occur this month and these will vibrate down all the

rungs from the very top to the very bottom. Top dogs are getting their golden bones, old bulls are being put out to pasture, and there’s a subsequent reshuffling across the board. This might not be the calmest month in terms of working aspects of your life, but at least there should be a bit of excitement and a few opportunities to make a bit of a short cut. The 16th in particular will be a key date at which time you should be able to look around you and see which way the wind is blowing, and the 25th/26th augers well for personal ambitions coming significantly closer to fruition. There are lots of secrets being openly discussed, a fair amount of scandal and an enormous amount of gossip. However, there is no smoke without fire and behind all the speculation there’s a hard core of fact and truth. There will be a lot of talk about principles (or more probably someone’s lack of them) but just remember that principles, like truth, are subjective to individual interpretation

Romance & relationships: I suspect that August may well be more associated with social intercourse than the

sexual variety. Certainly there is a lot going on in the sense of parties, nights out, conversations (probably about work issues) and a fair old amount of flirtation… however, Cupid’s arrow seems to be missing the target, going through the hedge and ending up in the barn door, and thus the chances of beautiful romantic interludes with tall, dark, handsome strangers seems somewhat remote. I suppose some can have a lot of fun watching TV soaps and talking about old times, but this won’t do for the younger breed of Librans who will be looking for adventure, talking about it – and chickening out quite blatantly when the opportunity does present itself. “What? Me do that with you? Oh no I couldn’t possibly!” Well, that’s if you live in the south. Oop north it would be “in yer dreams, now sod off”.

T

August forecast

his may be a good time to do a reality check and be honest in the process of self assessment. Are you getting what you want out of life? Are you happy? And if you’re not happy, or not as happy as you could be, what are you going to do about it? There’s quite a buzz in the air – your social life should not be wanting – but the problem is you find yourself looking at other people and envying what they seem to have. You want what they’ve got, or at least you think you do, but even if there’s a part of yourself that acknowledges that someone else’s green grass isn’t necessarily your green grass, this process alerts you to the fact that you do probably deserve a damn sight more out of life than what you’re getting. If, therefore, your impulsive streak manifests itself in the last few days of the month and you find yourself taking risks and gambles that you would normally stay shy of, I for one wouldn’t be in the least bit surprised! Cash & career: August should begin in a reasonably calm and routine

66 Vision 5

24 Oct - 23 Nov

manner but watch for a mood switch around the 7th or 8th at which time you’ll start feeling a little bit under pressure; other people on the work scene test your patience and if someone isn’t pulling their weight, you’re likely to tell them in no uncertain terms. This will cause some collegiate tension but it should have sorted itself out by the 14th or 15th. Perhaps because the second part of the month promises to be an extremely busy period you’ll find that there just isn’t enough time to worry about personality clashes; I suspect that there will be some pretty tight deadlines that have to be met and you won’t be the only one taking a proportion of your work home with you. Self-employed Scorpions will find that they have to cancel a couple of social engagements (21st to 25th ) and this might make them unpopular with partners. While it’s true that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy, it’s also true that Jack gets it in the neck if he hasn’t got the money to pay his bills!

Romance & relationships: Apart from being a bit unpopular towards the end of the month when you have to put business before pleasure, August should work out pretty well for you. In established partnerships there will be some serious discussion about financial priorities (watch for this as early as the 1st through to the 4th) and while there’s enough cash for the car or the new house, there isn’t enough cash for both. Travel aspects can be very positive for younger members of the sign who are looking for a good time rather than a long-term commitment. Between the 14th and 28th there will be some wild parties and at least one small orgy, but please don’t do it in public unless you’re in Ibiza. Perhaps all Scorpions could take a page out of this younger generation’s book: life is far too serious for far too much of the time and there are occasions when we should all let our hair down and play the game of life for the laughs.

August forecast

lot of the nagging doubts and anxieties that were hanging around throughout June and July seem to be replaced with a fresh new sense of humour and confidence. No one source is responsible for this… the energies come from relationships with partners, parents and children and a notably deeper feeling of fiscal security, even if there isn’t necessarily any more hard cash in your hand at the end of the week. The first week in August is significant for communication and correspondence, especially with people who live outside the UK, the second week sees you over-spending, but having a hell of a lot of fun doing it with no great harm done if you do overbend the plastic. Week three probably highlights career commitments, but with a strong and powerful vibe that keeps you very much on top of the top, while week four favours travel, vacations, holidays and long mornings in bed with a bottle of half decent champagne. Are you sitting in bed drinking afore-mentioned champagne on your own? Of course you’re not -

24 Nov - 21 Dec

there is a sparkling effervescence of sexual chemistry bubbling away throughout the month that should put a smile on your face on more than half a score of occasions, especially in the period between the 23rd and the 30th where your libido will be demanding all the attention it can get. Cash & career: Not a lot of earth shattering information on hand for the majority of working Sagittarians. Work routines and finances are reasonably secure and although we’d all like a bit more cash in our pockets, you can get by with what you’ve got – and if there is something specific that you want but you can’t have because you don’t have enough money, then this may be The Higher Authority’s way of telling you that you shouldn’t have it. However, in an attempt to be specific, this is an exciting time for ladies of a certain age who are looking for a little part-time job, just to be useful and to pass the time. Libraries, doctor’s surgeries, charity shops and English tea rooms all spring to mind. Am I being sarcastic? No not really. I’m just putting

my own interpretation on what I see.

Romance & relationships: Quite frankly there’s rather more going on in the Sagittarian love nest than there is in the Sagittarian office. Let me start by saying that August is a powerful period for making a lot of progress very quickly in new romances – the sort of thing whereby a holiday romance becomes a solid item within just a few weeks. People in secure relationships find themselves laughing a lot more than usual and there’s a great sense of rapport, supported by an energy that speaks of pulling together towards common goals and targets. Sagittarian parents will be getting a lot out of their children at this time, reaping the harvest of past efforts – while Sagittarian young folk will find parents and older people ready, willing and able to help without censure or criticism. So, both romantic, emotional and parent/child relationships are very well forecasted at this time, and this does not seem to be a flash in the pan. There is a process of establishment at work here, setting the trend for some significant time to come.

A

August forecast

ugust is important not so much for what happens during these fourand-a-half weeks, but more for what is planned, discussed and arranged. There is a sense of excitement and anticipation (certainly from the 6th onwards) that makes you feel very secure in what you’re doing and who you are doing it with. Some temporary cash flow problems will be dealt with speedily (in the second week) and this may well alert you to the fact that some important lifestyle changes are (a) inevitable and (b) very much for the better. There will be some thought and discussion regarding property – does one sell, rent or hold? Any Capricorn who has some profound concern for the welfare of animals will find they are on a winning streak supported by a rising star of possibility. A dogs’ home in Battersea, a camel sanctuary in Cairo, a cat menagerie in Spain? Why not all of these things? All things are possible if you maintain faith in your dreams… and

68 Vision 5

isn’t it great when you realise that you are sharing your life with someone who shares the same dreams! Cash & career: August might not be a brilliant month where cash and career are concerned but it is an important month for thinking about and discussing future plans and for defining specific pathways that get you to specific targets. Conversations with partners will be very much a part of this process, and while you may be pleasantly surprised at the way in which your ideas and concerns are taken on board, there is an onus upon you to listen seriously to the wishes and hopes of the person you’re talking to. You may find that you can’t get into the swing of work routines at all during the first days of the month – come to think of it, it may well be the first couple of weeks of the month, but gradually around the 17th the energies change and you manage to get your professional head in place. But only just. Because there is neither much drama nor demand, you will do more than your fair share of daydreaming – or making work for its own sake. The

first option is okay. The second is silly.

Romance & relationships: The month starts with quite a degree of moodiness, either emanating from within you or coming at you from a partner who seems far from happy with their lot. This energy swiftly changes however, and by the 6th or 7th an element of excitement and harmony exhilarates relationships, especially when you start talking about and discussing your future… not what is around the corner of the next few months (although that will be relevant in connection with Christmas commitments) but taking the longer view, and looking at where you want to be and what you want to be doing say two years from now. The very fact that you are talking about these things with a degree of mutual enthusiasm opens the doors to some great nights out and some early nights in bed. There’s a good hard thrust of sexual aggression snarling through your bloodstream, and although I don’t know which comes first, chicken or egg, there’s a lot of money being spent on diet plans, gym club memberships, and quite expensive new clothes.

A

August forecast

fter a lot of careful consideration and after a number of conversations over the previous weeks in which you will only have been partially successful in getting your message across to a partner or a loved one, you will be inclined to keep your innermost thoughts to yourself through the broad sweep of August. As I said earlier, you’ll be getting on with it but inside your psyche there may well be a few seething coils of resentment – and maybe also some anger – at the way in which other people take you for granted. If, therefore, there is someone new filtering into your daily life who does seem to be a lot more on your wavelength than some of your nearest and dearest, you may be forgiven for perking up and paying them rather more interest than you might do under normal circumstances. Any danger in this? No, not if you’re single, but yes if you’re not! Cash & career: August is a month for getting on with it. This is true in all respects, but most pertinently so in career and working relationships. These mid-summer weeks may be a routine slog for the

21 Jan - 19 Feb

gentlemen of the sign, but working girls manage to break free of this routine with some exciting money falling into place roughly between the 7th and the 18th. A new face emerges on the work scene around the 19th or 20th and you may find that it falls to you to take this person under your wing and show them the ropes. Illicit romances with colleagues could have some relevance for a small percentage of you, while for the rest there is just a rather nice feeling of camaraderie. Social events out of office hours could be good for team building. Even if you’ve got a crap job you come to realise that you’ve got some first class work mates, and that’s got to be worth something. If things are not absolutely okay on the home front, you may well find yourself choosing to put in more hours at work, not so much for the extra money, but more for the company and the feeling of being able to do something useful.

Romance & relationships: As far as long standing relationships are concerned, you’ll get on with them as well, doing your best on a day-to-day

level to make them work, and dealing with each minor crisis and problem as it arises. I’m not saying your heart won’t be in it but there are times when you’ll be going through the motions while your mind wanders off elsewhere to a parallel world where you are someone different and the rules of this life don’t apply. Single Aquarians have a much better time of things with a number of opportunities cropping up to ignite new romantic flames. The 11th through to the 14th is a significant period for meeting someone new who makes a major impression and the 15th right the way through to the 30th is wide open for wonderfully dirty weekends, or if you can’t afford that, steaming up the back windows of discreetly parked cars. For the small percentage of Aquarians who have been playing both ends against the middle for quite some time now, this may well be the point where some definite decisions of commitment have to be made.

L

et’s break it up. Younger Pisceans, say those under 25, who have been looking for more freedom and have been yearning to stretch their wings will find that August is a terrific month for doing just that – and rather than getting hindrance from other people, they’ll be getting a lot of help and encouragement. Single fishes who are fed up of being single fishes find an abundance of opportunity to make the right connections especially from the 9th or 10th onwards. Even single fishes who want to remain single fishes find themselves having to reconsider this proposition from the 15th or 16th onwards when a member of the opposite sex who won’t take no for an answer comes to their attention. Pisceans who are locked into business mode will achieve a great deal by working alone and not allowing anyone to interfere with their priorities (even though there may be some invaluable advice on offer from a spouse or partner). Old fishes with very silver scales may well realise that this is time for a new paint job and that reds, greens and blues are much more attractive than plain old

silver (let’s face it, even in shallow water silver can sometimes look a bit grey!). Cash & career: August will prove to be a gently productive month wherein you do make certain advances without too much effort and without any hassle from outside sources. Providing you’re not in too much of a rush and are prepared to use your own judgement and follow your own instincts and advice, a number of small but significant things fall into place – look at the 5th/6th/13th/14th/21st and 22nd which when put together add up to one big giant step forwards along the pathway of ambition and achievement. Self-employed Pisceans or those who work in jobs (or sports) where they only have themselves and their own efforts to rely on probably make the best of this trend, but it’s there for anyone who can show a spark of initiative and independence. Artistic fishes flourish in a positive stream of creativity, and although none of you will necessarily be looking for it,

there is some notable pleasure to be gained from praise and recognition of your talents .

Romance & relationships: Some people might look askance at what they perceive to be a rather odd relationship, but if it works for you then it’s nobody’s business but your own. August brings no threats or dangers to affairs of the heart, and indeed, those Pisceans looking for new romantic connections will find there is no shortage of opportunity, especially after the 9th when a lot of past problems seem to get sorted out once and for all. An emotional partner’s help in a business matter will be invaluable even though any final decision must be yours alone. Long-term plans come under the spotlight and although it’s only August, you’ll find yourself discussing Christmas and winter holidays. Any links with people and places overseas are enhanced at this time and monies will be set aside to pay for travel tickets and possibly deposits on an overseas property.

ugust is not the best of months, but life is what you make it and there should be some clearly defined opportunities for you to take direct action and do something drastic to re-route your life. There are friends who are more than willing to help you, but you are a bit like a horse… we can lead you to the water but we cannot make you drink! There would be some advantage in finding a little time and space for you to get your head straight, and to consider the magnitude of some of the issues you are having to deal with right now. There will be a couple of very good ideas under discussion between the 15th and 25th probably presented by a friend or friends – but for these ideas to work you have to be prepared to accept the necessity of some very fundamental changes in your attitudes and priorities. Also, you need to have faith in your friends and be prepared to take a risk. Cash & career: Single male Arians will find that they have to tighten the financial belt throughout August; there’s no room for spending sprees

21 Mar - 20 Apr

or wild parties and some tense conversations with creditors seem somewhat inevitable. There’s an easing of the tension towards the end of the second week, but only because you’ll be extending your lines of credit which could cause greater problems in the long term. Ladies of the sign have a slightly better time of it, and will be concentrating on what to spend their money on rather than where to get the money from. There is some shift in emphasis from the 14th/15th onwards and during the second half of the month you should be getting your teeth into new work routines and planning some venture (or adventure) that is scheduled to come on line in the late autumn. Money that is tied up in property will demand an undue degree of attention, and this may well be the time to consider some process of pruning or downsizing. As much as anything else, Arians need to be a little more brutal in defining their financial priorities and if something has got to go to make way for something better, then I guess that’s got to be the way of it.

Romance & relationships: I am happy to acknowledge that August could be quite a sexy month for a lot of you guys, but I really don’t get much of a romantic vibe. Therefore physical relationships bounce along to everyone’s satisfaction, but emotional unions (or indeed the emotional side of any relationship) could be quite a minefield… materialistic stresses disrupt the calmest of environments, and inevitably there must be some arguments that have finance as the fuse of some major explosions. One thing you can’t do is bury your head in the sand and run away from things that needed to be sorted out here and now and once and for all. There are some issues and situations that have to be faced and where necessary financial responsibilities need to be defined and portioned out. August 20th represents a turning point and if you and a partner can start pulling together in the same direction we should see a gentle improvement of circumstances towards the end of the month.

T

August forecast

he dog days of August can be an absolute pain. You’re all fired up, dressed to kill, with no place to go because either you’ve been there before or you’ve just come back, and it wasn’t nearly as great as it was cracked up to be. I could be reassuring and suggest that you take a laidback attitude and go with the flow, and maybe concentrate on putting in the groundwork for a few long-term plans and ambitions, but this probably isn’t going to cut any ice. There is that quintessential part of the Taurean character that says “I want it and I want it now”. Nevertheless, August will turn out to be a beneficial period insofar as that there will be some key conversations with people close to you (the 4th /5th/6th and then again on the 24th through to the 28th/29th) and as a result of this communication some plans and commitments are made that do give you a brighter and much more hopeful vision of your future. This may sound stupid, but a lot of your moods will be affected by the weather. If it’s bright and sunny you

72 Vision 5

21 Apr - 21 May

will cope far better than you will if it’s grey and wet. Cash & career: You’ll be working hard throughout August to make up some cash deficits and to pay some rather pressing bills, the trouble is that where actual work is concerned, this is going to be a quiet time. While there are some good omens falling into place on the 9th, the 17th and the 26th that boost your confidence when you look forward to later in the year, the problem is that you need some extra hard cash right now – and it doesn’t seem to be available. This might not be such a great problem as you think it is – you just need to be a little more patient and philosophical, but patience is not one of your virtues. You want things sorted out and you want ‘em sorted now! This mood may push you into some impulsive “sell, sell” attitude and the danger here is that you could sell something, and then wish to blazes you hadn’t. Some male Taureans will even consider some minor illegalities and if this is you, just be mindful to watch your back.

Romance & relationships: Usually, when Taureans are hurting for hard cash they can become very irritable and even downright impossible… and yet July’s positive emotional trend carries through into August, and this will be a productive time where established relationships are concerned with some deep and thought-provoking conversations concerning the long-term pathway of interwoven pathways. Single male Taureans will probably not benefit from this trend – they haven’t got the readies to pull or impress – but single females might not do so badly if they can swallow enough pride to let interested males (of other star signs) shell out for their attention and entertainment. Travel aspects at the beginning of the month (1st/2nd/3rd) are not likely to put much of a smile on your face, and even though a loved one may be working hard to convince you that you really are quite lovable, it may be hard for you to respond positively until a few key issues regarding future plans are clearly sorted out and understood.

I

August forecast

n simple terms, the challenge that faces you in August is to be selfish – not in the sense of being nasty, avaricious or mean, but in the sense of being fair to yourself and putting your own needs and priorities at the top of the pile. This will bring stunning rounds of applause from one lot of people close to you, and a bag full of plaintiff criticism from others. My advice? Enjoy the applause and ignore your critics! Being a bit parochial, some of you will be enjoying new cars this month and there are some nice travel vibes around the 11th/12th so I guess you’re either going somewhere or coming back. Unexpected guests or visitors will disrupt your domestic routines between the 18th and 24th and some legal stuff might need your attention any time from August 11th onwards. For a small percentage of Geminis, August could well become a time of pilgrimage and spiritual awakening. Cash & career: Ladies of the sign will face a challenging month. There is a lot on offer

22 May - 21 June from a male colleague or employer, but the question nags at the back of the mind – is there a hidden agenda? What does this bloke want, other than my professional skills and talents? Gentlemen of the sign may find themselves being chatted up by female colleagues, but if there is some temptation here, it shouldn’t be too difficult to resist. August is not brilliant where hard cash is concerned, but it’s not a bad time for tidying up a lot of work-related loose ends, and it may actually be a very good period for sorting out inter-office relationships and politics. Between the 7th and the 21st external domestic issues may become something of a distraction, and male or female, you should make a point of not taking your dirty linen to work with you. A work-related social event towards the very end of the month could be a totally embarrassing disaster so if you can get out of going, do so. If you’re asked to arrange it all, politely decline. If someone owes you money, you might have to embarrass yourself further by asking for

it back. It isn’t the amount that’s the issue here, it’s the principle of the thing.

Romance & relationships: I think that August will be a lovely romantic month for you. Innocent relationships probably go sexual for the first time and young lovers really get it on. All one-to-one relationships flourish and prosper with a reassuring degree of hedonistic enthusiasm. Engagements and weddings seem to fall into place on the calendar between the 1st and the 8th and between the 15th and the 22nd there will be some well celebrated anniversaries. Well here comes the bad news. There are problems in parent/child relationships, and we are not just talking here about parents bringing up their kids, we’re talking about full grown adults having to cope with elderly parents who think that the world should exclusively revolve around their needs and demands. And here comes the really hard bit… if you want to enjoy your own life and get the most out of your love affairs, partners and babies, then it may well be time to put granny in a home and tell that grumpy old man to sod off!

W

August forecast

hile there are some new energies and brighter notes creeping into the scheme of things in the last week of the month, the first 23 or 24 days are relatively low key. The first days of August must inevitably see you looking backwards rather than forwards, but it must be acknowledged that this is a good time for a little soul searching and judicial reflection. Cancerian parents may try to escape by seeing the world through the eyes of their kids, and worse, living their lives through the actions of their children – which is not a good move – while Cancerian youngsters will be pushing against any kind of authority and rebelling against what they perceive as any kind of authority figure. Social aspects are all very local in the first three weeks (a homefire BBQ on the lawn could be the highlight of the season) but things do start getting shaken up from the 22nd of the month onwards. Casual sex could lead to unwelcome consequences and impulsive journeys in the form of spontaneous days out or weekends away could

74 Vision 5

22 June - 22 July

give your jaded imagination a muchneeded boost. Cash & career: Some frustrations this month: people don’t do what they say they’re going to do, appointments get missed, diaries get confused. Everyone seems to be on holiday and no-one seems too bothered about keeping their promises. I guess you’ve got two choices: you can either gnash your teeth and battle against the flow or you could say sod it, if I can’t beat ‘em, I’ll join em, and I’ll just coast through the month until the energies start changing, around the 26th or 27th. In common with most other star signs, there’s not a lot of cash to be made this month, and if there’s any profit to be had out of this time, it comes further down the line as the result of present day planning and prep work. An older female will have some good business advice for you, but the chances are you’re not going to like what you’ll hear. And yet, another conversation within the same framework of time, on this occasion with a male, and in a banking or legal capacity, will confirm the soundness of this lady’s advice and then you might start to

consider the soundness of some of the things she is saying to you.

Romance & relationships: Unexpected reunions in the first days of August could awaken old ghosts from your past and you may well have cause to cast a glance back over the years, re-evaluating some of your past choices and decisions. This brooding mood could cause some tension with a partner especially if you find yourself looking back to before that partner’s time in your life and wondering how your life might have panned out without them in it. Not really a romantic month then, leastways, not for the grown-ups. Very young Cancerians (15 to 22) who don’t have much of a history will not be affected by this mood, but there will still be a few tensions, especially for the girls, who will feel that they are worth a lot more than they’re getting. Fellers with Cancerian girlfriends are not to be envied. Come to that, Cancerian males are not much better off, as they’ll just put up and shut up and do what their womenfolk tell them to do.

The Atlantis Blueprint by Rand Flem-Ath & Colin Wilson (£8.99 Time Warner paperbacks) There are many theories about the whereabouts of the lost civilisation of Atlantis - the one the authors lean towards in this tome is that it may be buried under the ice of Antarctica! This fascinating book recounts how American scholar Charles Hapgood’s theories of an ancient seafaring civilisation inspired young Rand Flem-Ath to search for the truth behind his claims. His research along with co-author Colin Wilson, shed new light on the purpose of ley lines, the amazing but plausible connection between 60 sacred sites around the world, and the idea that a sophisticated ancient civilisation - Atlantis - may actually have existed before 9,600 BC - therefore man dates back much farther than anyone first thought! On this scintilating journey, the authors discuss on the Book of Enoch, the Knights Templar and the mysterious Freemasons. They even speculate about the ‘disaster’ which may have caused the disappearance of Atlantis such as a shift in the earth’s crust, the famous flood of Noah or even a comet hitting the earth! This will certainly make you think outside the box about many things…. an intriguing blueprint to expand your mind!

Journey to Our Dreams CD by Llewellyn (rrp £10.95 New World Music) Composer Llewellyn has followed his inspirational Journey to the Faeries CD with the perfect nightcap! Split into 4 sections - breathing, floating, journey and dream - Journey to Our Dreams sends the listener on a voyage of discovery into the dream state. The breathing part is so serene with simple piano pieces and a beautiful melody to calm even the most active mind. The accompanying sleeve notes by hypnotherapist Heather RedfernKinnersley give instructions on how to relax the body while listening to this section. They also advise on different dream types, how to record them and some meanings.

The soothing sounds give the listener the impression that they are floating away to a higher state of awareness, yet there is always an underlying sense of anticipation to the music. This is subtle enough to fall asleep to and is perfect to accompaniment to the land of nod - the ideal nightcap! Reader offer: Vision has teamed up with New World Music to offer readers the opportunity of purchasing Journey to our Dreams by Llewellyn at a very special price of £8.95 (normally £10.95 rrp) plus free postage & packing (normally £1.95)... a saving of nearly £4! What the Bleep do we Know? film by Mark Vicente, Betsy Chasse & William Arntz. Starring Marlee Matlin (certificate 12a). This is a rare beast - a cinematic feature of potentially life-changing proportions that actually makes you think. What the Bleep do we Know? takes viewers on a journey of quantum physics and mind-bending spins on reality. But don’t let that put you off - you don’t need to be a scientist to understand it! This documentary/film hybrid is as thrilling as it is enthralling with special effects that will not only make your eyes pop, but expand your mind too. The main character is disenchanted photographer Amanda (Marlee Matlin), who embarks on a journey of enlightenment. Her story is interspersed with opinions from scientists and experts. They shed light on amazing but completely plausible theories about the nature of reality, the reason why we’re here, what god is and the power of thought. A must-see for anyone who believes that all we see is not necessarily everything out there.
